Ladies I think we need a new festive thread to take us through to the end of the year. And as it will be me to sneeze next –how did it get around to my turn so quickly???-- I thought I would do the honours.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Bumpiemalumpie · 31/01/2014 12:21

lol I love you lot!

now little bumpie is eating (again! takes after his dad)

Are you sitting comfortably? So I will begin!

As a caviat you need to know, I am stubborn, had fought with the consultant to have a mlu birth, hate the idea of drugs and wanted to be as active as possible, had added complications of taking happy pills and having a single artery umbilical cord.

2:40am 24th, I wake convinced I am wetting myself but then remember I am pregnant with the bladder the size of a pea, commence frantic run to bathroom visualising baby swimming out!!

Go to dh who is in the spare room and ask him if he fancies a long weekend, I have washed the bathroom floor!!!

start smiling but then have a vice start on my back.

Call labour line and speak to a lovely midwife who points out I may be in labour, get in the bath similar to air raid warning I arrange to go to our local mlu when it opens at 8am or call back if needs be. So 5 hours of back contractions at home, including sending dh to tescos as I hadn't bought nappies (was 38.5, thought by buying them it would put me in labour!!).

8:05am, arrives at the mlu, am examined and 3cm with 3-4 contractions every 10 mins so the admit me and I start a wonderful, tens led labour, getting in the pool at 10ish, in a lot of pain, back to back baby but adamant I didn't want gas and air!!

fast forward to 6pm, 4 midwives later I ask about g&a, may be I'll give it a go! 4cms!

7pm examined - 5 cms so ordered out of the pool, "let's try new positions!!" "remember to breath"!!!!

9pm, examined 6/7cms,

10pm, 5cms, one bottle of gas and air empty, let's think about going to hospital the midwife says. I go historical but agree

11pm, cue blue lights, two old paramedics, me asking about football scores, criticising their driving and dh following in the car.

11:30 arrive in pouring rain at the hospital, lovely midwife leaves in histerics as I utter again that I have an allergy to commitment!!

Epidural offered and dreaded drip inserted. I lie to the doctors saying I have read the info sheet, truth be told, I knew what would be on it and I knew I would say no to it if I had read it!

Clip put on baby's head as my pulse is so high they can't be sure what they are getting is baby's HB.

Decelerations and escelerations in los HB and they examine me - 4cm. I shout literally stop, get it out, I need him to live and don't want an emergency situation. Doctor agrees so we go to have a c section.

thank fuck for that!!!

Zachary is born healthy, happy peeing at 6:28am weighting 6.4 and beautiful!

learning points-

  1. drugs are amazing, stubbornness causes problems
2.dh deserves a fucking medal, new car, holiday in the sun and an obe
  1. hospitals are not as scary as I thought but need more ice machines
  2. my national insurance payments were well worth the 3bottles of gas and air, two epidurals 12professionals in surgery and the bliss of a baby
  3. I have no shame and the whole world has seen my fanjo and baps!!!!!!!!

And breath!!! Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

Grin Grin Grin

Giggling at allergy to commitment and learning points! Sounds painful but lovely, and little Z is so cute!

EverythingIsTicketyBoo · 31/01/2014 13:36

Oh that is a great birth story, you had everything going on! Well done you and DH :)

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 31/01/2014 15:20

Lovely MW rang - nuchal result is 1:3451! Yay! She said it beggars belief that one baby was 1:10 and one was 1:3451. So relieved! Also got appt for hb, bp and pee checking next Wed at 8.15. Totally forgot about big meeting at 9, but I don't care. They can just start without me and DH ( tis unfortunate that he is at this one too).

DinoSnores · 31/01/2014 16:28

Lovely of your MW to phone, too.

bumpie, well done! Sounded like you did a great job right the way through. If things continue, I'm going to think about blowing up the exercise ball sooner rather than later this time as it sounds like it really helped you.

keepitgoing · 31/01/2014 17:10

wow, epic labour. well done. Smile come join us on the postnatal thread x

Solars · 31/01/2014 17:21

Hi everyone!

Bumpie great birth story and good to hear mum and baby doing well after a roller coaster of a birth!

Hello there Dino are you joining us here?? Does that mean you've got a BFP??

Too excellent news on the nt risk result! my sister was the same, first born had a high risk, second born low risk Hmm

Maybe I'm good thanks! I had a midwife appointment yesterday and baby is 3/5ths palpable! I know that can change but he's on his way! Was it last day at work today? I really need to stop work as well, had a mare of an afternoon with stupid incompetent admin staff, really stressed me out, which is not good!!

Hello to everyone else, sorry not to read back properly and name check!!

Solars · 31/01/2014 17:28

Sorry I totally forgot I wanted to share this link of a small study showing that eating 6 dates in the last 4 weeks before edd can reduce labour times, the need for induction etc worth a go I thought! My SIL told me about it and she's an nct teacher...

Solars · 31/01/2014 17:28

That's 6 dates a day...

Solars · 31/01/2014 17:53

Oh my goodness Dino so sorry I did know you were pg as I saw your FB announcement, I'm obviously blaming baby brain!!

SantaMaybe · 31/01/2014 18:34

What a story Bumpie!!! So glad you're home and doing well.

That's really interesting Solars, I like dates as well!! Win win!! Brilliant news about the MW! He will be here before you know it!!

It was indeed my last day at work today. I don't think it will sink in for. While though Wink

That's brilliant news Too. My SIL was the same, high risk with her first, low with the second.

Hope everyone else is ok Smile

ThedementedPenguin · 31/01/2014 21:42

bumpie wow what a birth story. I love your learning points.

Too great news about your results.

maybe have you any plans for your maternity leave? I'm sure your glad to be finished. You must be roughly 33 weeks? I think there's roughly 2 weeks between us.

How's everyone tonight? Any plans this weekend?

SantaMaybe · 31/01/2014 22:58

32+4 Pen, we are very close indeed! No plans other than lots of walking, swimming, baking and knitting! I'm desperately hoping I will have a bit more energy now I'm not doing 12 hour days!!

Last hypnobirthing in the morning, then going shopping for hospital bag bits with a fellow hypnobirthing march mummy friend I've made. How about you?

DinoSnores · 01/02/2014 07:50

solars, don't feel quite ready to join in here, but will be back properly once I have had my first couple of scans! In the meantime, I'd just be visiting to keep up with the news around here! Will remember about the date eating for September hopefully!

maybe, you are on mat leave already? How did that happen? Everyone else's pregnancies happen so much more quickly! Sounds like you have lovely plans.

keepitgoing · 01/02/2014 09:20

wow ml already maybe!! lucky you. enjoy!!

any day now for solars!!! am so excited for you. are you feeling OK? x

Solars · 01/02/2014 10:12

I'm doing ok Keep I could do without dealing with some of MrS's demanding patients though, or is it that I've just become a bit more sensitive these days?? Already half the ladies on our nct class have given birth and I'm pretty sure the next one is imminent as she's over a week overdue now! But I still feel a long way off Hmm

Dino take you're time and I'm brooking for those early scans of yours! looking forward to when you do join though!

keepitgoing · 01/02/2014 10:35

that's what I said the morning of her birth Solaris! ime you just don't know or I'm an idiot Grin

TheLittleFriend · 02/02/2014 14:17

Great birth story Bumpie Grin

Too, so chuffed for you with those results.

musicalmrs · 02/02/2014 14:32

Lovely birth story Bumpie. Sounds very scary in parts.. love the learning points! Hope you're enjoying getting to know Z, and aren't too shattered Smile

ThedementedPenguin · 02/02/2014 18:50

maybe I have done very little this weekend. Other than clean the whole if upstairs today. I feel like upstairs is part of a different house and not mine Smile

We are going to redocorate our bathroom so been cleaning the place before Dp and his dad starts to wreck it again.

Ds has gone nuts and is running around like a looper. 10 minutes to bed time. Thank god!

Sounds like a good way to spend your ml maybe hopefully you'll get a good few weeks to relax before baby turns up.

solars how long now until your due date? Won't be long.

Hope everyone else is keeping well. Smile

Stacks · 03/02/2014 15:10

Finally saw a decent dr about my thyroid. He's given me a prescription for the amount of drugs I'm actually taking and advised me to have a blood test in a couple of weeks. He also looked up the nhs guidelines for our area, and saw I should have been referred to an endocrine consultant as soon as I got pregnant! The midwife was adamant there's no such thing here Confused still, it's done now.

How's everyone else?

EverythingIsTicketyBoo · 03/02/2014 15:27

Stacks I boxroom pleased for you, finally getting somewhere :):) how many weeks are you now?
