I'm quite confused about cold cuts/deli meat/cured meats. I have a vague sense that one of them is not cool but I don't know why or where it ends.
Any opinions? Am I overgeneralising when it's actually just something specific that's not allowed (e.g. bacon is fine, prosciutto is not... or whatever)?

Liquidambar · 06/11/2013 20:56

Sarah my understanding is that everything that is cured or smoked might be risky, as it hasn't been "cooked" But I am also confused.

Winkly great news :)

BEEwitched · 06/11/2013 20:57

I think cured meats are supposed to be avoided because it's not properly 'cooked' - same reasoning as sushi.

In America, all deli meats are considered taboo because there could be bacteria on the blade of the meat slicer, apparently.

typhoonsmum · 06/11/2013 20:58

As this is my third pregnancy I am taking all the do and don't with a pinch of salt.. I don't like red meat at the best of times so that isn't an issue. Now wine...wine I love.. I know that I can have a few glasses a week but the idea of it makes me hurl at the moment..
Most things make me want to hurl. Am 8+4 and if I am not feeling nauseous I am tired. What a fantastic way to celebrate my 35th birthday tomorrow.. Have my booking appointment ( and hopefully scan) in three weeks. May seem more real when I see a picture..

CarrotCakeMuffins · 06/11/2013 21:24

Pulling my head put of the sand, as it's really time I posted on this thread.

I've had a lot of bad experiences with 3 RMCs, so am getting lots of extra attention at the moment.

I had my 2nd early reassurance scan today, and all went well. Baby has grown, is exactly the right size 9+2 and heart beating away.
It looks like it might really happen this time!

I also saw my midwife for booking in on Monday, which went really well, and quite quick as I'd filled in so much of the book myself.

Slightly disappointed though, as I'd like to have the baby in the new (midwife only) birth centre at our hospital, but because my dd (7) was breech & I had to have a CS, they are unlikely to let me Sad. I will do my best to persuade them much later on but not sure if I will succeed.

She did say she would support me to have a home birth if I wanted, which to me is a riskier option than the birth centre....

I'm now waiting for a date for my 12 week scan and hope it comes through soon.

noseymcposey · 06/11/2013 21:32

That's great news carrot :)

Interesting that your MW would support you in a homebirth. I originally wanted a homebirth with DS but ended up having to go straight into hospital as there was meconium in the waters and was on a monitor the whole time ending up in am EMCS. I had assumed that having had a CS it would rule out any chance of a homebirth. It will be 3 and a bit years between births when the time comes.. I wonder if it is not so out of the question after all!

seatfor5 · 06/11/2013 22:49

Lovely news about the scans today :) and welcome Carrot.

All this talk of food just makes me feel sick :( its funny I dont feel sick at all and then I will read something or someone will say something and a wave comes over me, very odd!

Am I the only one sleeping for England during the day and then for the life of me can't sleep at bedtime I think its have DH there Hmm lol!

I am still trying to get used to the fact that I am 2 weeks behind myself I kind of expected it as I know I ovulate late but still one minute being 8+6 then 6+6 (now 8+4 but in my head 10+4 still lol) also they moved my scan from the 18th November to the 9th December I know that they have to otherwise the tests wont be right and as I had a 1/150 chance of Downs last time it is important but still!

Can I ask are people having the Harmony test before they have their 12 week scan? DH cant see the point of the test or any other test as he has said we are having he/she no matter what so why test, I cant get it into his head that if there is something wrong I need to prepare for it, get my head around it and make sure the doctors are doing all they can for DD/DS in case of health issues that are associated - think it will be an uphill struggle with him but hope that its doesn't come to it.

BEEwitched · 06/11/2013 22:50

I am craving red meat at the moment, I normally don't eat much red meat and cook mainly with chicken and turkey, that's really not working for me at the moment. Just as well, my pregnancy book says you should have red meat three times a week...

Mitchell2 · 06/11/2013 23:03

Hi seat I'm thinking of doing the panorama one which can be done at 9 weeks not 10, so yes I Will have had this all done before the nhs.

I understand your husbands thoughts but the harmony tests don't just test for downs but also Edwards and patau both of which are very rare but may have implications for the pregnancy continuing anyway.

I don't want to alarm or scare Edwards is about 1 in 3-5000 and patau is 1 in 12,000.

Having the test though won't change the outcome and I have a good friend who hasn't even had any scans or testing this pregnancy as she is of the point what ever will be will be.

I on the other hand am a control freak and want to know everything good or bad straight up!

seatfor5 · 06/11/2013 23:21

Mitchell I haven't heard of that test..... will be off to google :) I have even considered going and having it done on my own but then what if the results are bad! You are just like me I have to know everything!

dramajustfollowsme · 06/11/2013 23:45

Having had several mc and a still birth, my pregnancy with dd was very stressful and lots of medical involvement.
This is the first time I've been pregnant and not felt like death. I'm still worried as one mc was only discovered at my scan. I really want to have a more relaxed pregnancy and take things as they come but my god it is hard.
I did another test which shows my hormone levels are still going up but from now until a scan I feel like I'm in no-man's land.
Dh doesn't want to go for a private scan as when we've had on the past, problems have been found.
I'm really struggling with the not knowing everything is ok. It has too often not been the case. Sad
Another 2 weeks until my booking appointment even and no word on a scan date. Argh!!!

seatfor5 · 06/11/2013 23:56

Drama have you spoken to the EPU I am sure you would be given an early scan due to your previous history, Your Dh should a bit like mine they dont seem to understand we need to know if there is anything wrong and sooner rather than later! i would ring your EPU tomorrow and talk to them about your history then maybe tell DH a white lie and say they rang you!

GillyBillyWilly · 07/11/2013 06:26

It's my first day back in work today after 2 weeks!
Had a week off due to morning sickness and then a week annual leave.
I still feel like crap though and can't face getting out of bed most days but I am forcing myself to get up and go.
Urrrgghhh Sad

OP posts:
jaykay987 · 07/11/2013 07:05

The only way to stop the room spinning and nausea striking is to lay very still..............

Uuurrrgggghhhhh.

No idea how I will drive. I was supposed to be leaving ten minutes ago.

littlepickly · 07/11/2013 07:12

Am really finding work a drag at the moment...doesn't help that I'm leaving in a few weeks!! Smile

Spoke to midwife this week (I'm 8+6) and I have my booking in appt on weds at home - same midwife as with DD so that's good as she is lovely. She will then book scan so should know about that soon too!!

I heard last night that one of my closet friends is 12 weeks pg Grin She didn't know if she could get pg as she has some health issues but all is going well - I'm so excited to have a close friend to share it all with - my SIL is a week in front of me too so will be lovely to have lots of people to have tea & cake with when the babies are here! Grin

Have good days everyone - my MS is worst in the afternoons & evenings for some reason and even though I get hungry nothing really ever hits the spot of what I'm fancying!! So I just have to eat everything - ha! Need maternity jeans already! Blush

superlambanana · 07/11/2013 07:52

Oh poor you jaykay Hmm Lie still and call in sick!

This is the first day for a while I've not woken up feeling like I'm about to throw up. So of course I'm worrying why Hmm

superlambanana · 07/11/2013 07:54

Have just realised what I thought was a sad face on my phone is actually the hmm face on a web page - I meant Sad jaykay!

superlambanana · 07/11/2013 08:20

Oh hang on... Just got up and was about to go downstairs when I started retching (sorry tmi!). Another fun day then!!

MarlenaGru · 07/11/2013 08:30

Good luck with the nausea and back to work gilly
Conference day today. Slightly scared as no escape if I start feeling ropey!
I am another going mad with thinking if I eat x I will feel better. X makes me feel worse and then I think of y. Last time I had lost weight at this point in pregnancy Hmm
At least I can hope that I all falls off when bf like it did last time (plus dairy allergic child means I won't be having cake this time either just in case)

GinandStripes · 07/11/2013 08:40

Morning All,

Today I feeling thankful that I am not a celebrity - just seen reports that Anne Hathaways brother outed her as pregnant, her people are denying it and the papers are now showing all the unflattering, baggy clothed pictures of her recently.

Very thankful there aren't cameras hidden in bushes, waiting for me to hold my belly in a nurturing way and then splashing it across the papers before I am ready.

MTMD · 07/11/2013 08:56

Good morning all!

Despite sleeping for 10 hours, I'm falling asleep at my desk already!

This morning I had a good look in our bathroom mirror and decided I have a little bump Blush Is this normal? I lost 2-3 kg since bfp but the tummy is sticking out more and lower abs are very hard and still painful...

i cannot wait till scan because I feel so very pregnant at the moment but still no confirmation apart from that single test :)

GinandStripes · 07/11/2013 09:02

I've got a little pouch!

superlambanana · 07/11/2013 09:24

When is it normal to have a bump? My clothes feel tighter but I don't know if that's the crisps I'm living on...

GillyBillyWilly · 07/11/2013 09:32

I definitely feel like my clothes are tighter and my tummy looks a little more rounded than usual. I'm 9+3 today and I think its a combination of pregnancy and more food! Grin

OP posts:
Mitchell2 · 07/11/2013 09:59

Unfortunately I think my 'bump' is more of the carb kind! Usually lay off the carbs and anything that makes me bloat but as soon as beanie started occupying space anything that is fatty, full of carbs and preferably warm (hello pizza) is all I have wanted to eat!
