superlambanana · 07/11/2013 10:19

Doctor has prescribed me anti sickness tablets. Fingers crossed they work...

Mitchell2 · 07/11/2013 10:24

Good luck super

BEEwitched · 07/11/2013 10:25

A lot of us are feeling pretty rough at the moment - I got another sickline and spent the morning gagging and heaving and just generally being not fun.

I feel like minced meat today.

Seems like having tests done in NI is just not done on the NHS, you can get the triple test if you really press for it but that is so outdated... it probably has to do with the appalling abortion laws here.

Snowlet · 07/11/2013 10:57

Add another one to the club of feeling rough, what is it about today?? Much sympathy to everyone, what a pants day

I've definitely got a roundedness at 9+4, it's pretty undeniable, the difference for me is I can't suck it in, which I could do if it was extra weight! DP thinks it's hilarious and cute, but I'm still not over the whole 'body being taken over' thing. I'm pretty glad we don't just wake up one day 8 months along! Need time to get used to this

MTMD · 07/11/2013 11:04

After near starvation over past couple of weeks it's EATING day over here. I cannot stop munching! Already had my lunch and running out of snacks. Pregnancy is such a bizarre thing!

MTMD · 07/11/2013 11:12

Good luck super. From what I've read, there are different types of drugs so if this one doesnt work - they should be able to find something that does.

BEEwitched · 07/11/2013 11:31

Just as a follow up to yesterday's discussion about listeria and toxo, in Germany the biggest dairy company has had to withdraw about 20-30 different products of grated cheese they supply to all major supermarkets because they are infected with listeriosis.

So yeah, maybe heat up grated cheese from now on, just in case the damp environment of bits of massacred cheesy goodness harbours the nasty? Means I have to stop sneaking fingerfuls of grated mozz every time I go into the kitchen, though...

ohcluttergotme · 07/11/2013 12:23

Another one feeling rubbish here. I'm so tired during the day and then wide awake at night, what's that all about?
Had my booking in with midwife today who was lovely. I'd got myself a bit uptight as was already running late as had to drop ds at nursery and assumed I would get a parking space..ha no such luck! Went in stressed out and she had me doing this SOS breathing exercise, was really nice.
Got weight checked BMI, 25 so just good, urine checked, BP and lots of bloods done. She said as I'm 35 I'm moderate risk of downs so they an now check thickness of babies neck at 20 week scan and take some extra blood.
My teenage dd said to me this morning that I had a bump Shock I agree with others though that the extra carbs has something to do with this.
I didn't get a bump til about 20 weeks with other 2 pregnancies so a little worried as only 8 weeks!

ohcluttergotme · 07/11/2013 12:26

Also midwife said they're is a lovely new MLU at my hospital that I can choose to go to which she said is lovely. Away to google it now Smile

BEEwitched · 07/11/2013 12:34

clutter Whereabouts are you? Nuchal check for the neck fold is usually done at around 12-13 weeks.

That MLU sounds lovely.

ohcluttergotme · 07/11/2013 13:03

I'm in Edinburgh and I'm sure she said it would be done at the 20 week scan but I am a wreck just now so maybe I picked her up wrong?

BEEwitched · 07/11/2013 13:09

It seems like every area has their own schedules and policies, I'm sure it's in your file.

I found that, as well, the booking appointment was so overwhelming, everything was crowded, I saw 6 different doctors and midwife's over the course of 2 hours (and a surly teenager on work experience who sat in on my scan), I was really grateful I had my notes afterwards so I could read through what actually happened!

Snowlet · 07/11/2013 13:12

URGH have just had to buy two sleep bras and two maternity bras (which can be nursing bras too, at least).... already up two cup sizes and my bra really started to hurt me yesterday, didn't think this would come so soon

Liquidambar · 07/11/2013 13:24

I am setting in the park enjoying some fresh air. I am sooo tired today that I nearly fell asleep at my desk.
I was feeling very hungry at 10.30am and bought some pack chicken tikka from sainsbury's. My colleague (who is veggie) was looking at me thinking: how on earth are you eating chicken at this time of the day. Oh well. .. of course I'm feeling a bit nauseous now. Perhaps I had too much chicken Envy

ohclutter my mw also told me that it's during the 12 week scan they measure the nuchal fold and she put a green envelope at the back of my folder to collect more blood on the scans day. However she also gave me a card for my 20 week scan which she also put in my blue folder. A friend had her baby at the royal's new birthing centre 3 weeks ago and she had a really good experience.

ohcluttergotme · 07/11/2013 13:49

Aw that's great to hear Liquid, have googled and it looks really nice.
Chicken tikka at 10:30 sounds very normal for pregnant woman just maybe not for most people. I went into work last week with a very strange selection of food and one of my colleagues used to be a midwife and looked very knowingly at my stash of food!
Beewitched have just read through notes and yep it does say nuchal scan at 11-13 weeks, I was so sure she said to me this would be done at 20 weeks? Hmm

BEEwitched · 07/11/2013 13:56

Clutter, I think they check for anomalies on the twenty week scan, as well, so maybe that's what she meant?

GinandStripes · 07/11/2013 14:05

and after all that...

My letter from Homerton has arrived and due to a very high number of requests they cannot accept me as I am out of the catchment area.

Off to Royal London it is then!

Mitchell2 · 07/11/2013 14:10

Oh bollocks Gin - that probably means that I am going to be out as well! At least we have the option of the Barkantine MLU which I have heard is lovely

GinandStripes · 07/11/2013 14:19

Mitchell Think my doctor mumbled something about that not being for first timers but maybe I misunderstood.

I must think of the positives... a walk to Whitechapel means I can visit Brick Lane! or Stepney City Farm!

Lmf679 · 07/11/2013 15:00

Barkantine looks lovely, they don't assess you until the last couple of weeks though so it's a bit of waiting and hoping, also, they don't have a medical team there so I think if you or the baby need medical intervention you have to be transferred to royal London anyway.

ohcluttergotme · 07/11/2013 15:13

If anyone else struggling with sleeping my midwife suggested eating a ripe banana before bed due to high levels of serotonin. I've bought a bunch so hoping it helps!

wispaxmas · 07/11/2013 15:29

The nuchal test would be impossible at 20 weeks. Latest it can be done is 13+6!

On phone, so having trouble catching up. Wispa and I are back in the UK! On the train home now, looking forward to a Chinese tonight Grin

hackneybird · 07/11/2013 15:48

Ladygonegaga I agree with you wholeheartedly. There is so much neurosis and unnecessary worry around pregnancy diets. I'm a firm believer in everything in moderation, but if you'd rather avoid, then that is the best decision for you.

The one thing that annoys the most is that some people think drinking coffee in pregnancy in The Devil's Work. ONE coffee a day is totally fine imho.

I am reading an excellent book on this subject -Expecting better

An economist was frustrated by inconclusive and conflicting advice, so she assessed all the studies and evidence herself and gives excellent interpretation on what she finds.

MTMD · 07/11/2013 16:02

I bought this book really early on but haven't read it yet as a lot of it is about food and I cannot think about food :) Also, I've been really bad at reading anything, just can't sustain enough interest, always so tired....

Mitchell2 · 07/11/2013 16:07

hackney - I have read this too - its brilliant and right up my street.

gin - LMF is right - as far as I know newbies can give birth there just everyone has to wait until they are assessed as low risk
