Hello liquidambar and ohcluttergotme, I'm in Edinburgh too. I'm a bit quiet on this as thread speeds along so quick I can't keep up! I'm due early June and not really told anyone the news yet. Exciting to have local Edinburgers on this! x

CarrotCakeMuffins · 23/10/2013 16:20

I had my early scan this afternoon, and saw a tiny blob with a heartbeat! We both cried. I got a photo and will have another scan in 2 weeks to check all is still well.

GillyBillyWilly · 23/10/2013 16:22

I'll start again... Grin

Booking appt went well! Smile
I was in there for about 90 mins.

There was my midwife and also a student midwife present.

We went through the green book very thoroughly.... She gave me a form to fill out so I can get my exemption card (for free prescriptions and dental care etc), weighed me, measured me, booked me in for my next appt (18th dec when I will be 16 weeks)

She's kept my due date as 3rd June based on my LMP but agreed with me that I'm probably right as I explained I was having 34 day cycles and ovulated on cd20 so I think my due date is 9th June... Obviously this will be discussed further and changed when I have my scan in 4 weeks.

She asked me for a urine sample and I failed miserably so I have a pot to pee in tonight and give back to her tomorrow.... As I'm also going back tomorrow for my flu jab!!!!

She AND the student midwife both failed miserably at taking blood. I always have this problem as apparently my veins are deep and thin but I've never been through such a fuss! They tried numerous times in each arm and couldn't get blood so referred me to a blood clinic down the road by lewisham hospital Hmm

Went there straight away and the nurse took a split second to find a vein and take bloods! What a pro!!! Grin

Anyway that's my update!

HannahC1989 · 23/10/2013 16:24

MrsB2013 - my nearest is royal berks but i had my LG in basingstoke? It was lovely place and the people were fab! X

MarlenaGru · 23/10/2013 16:27

Sounds good gilly
Last time I had this lovely midwife who was apparently about 70 and she got everything wrong on my notes. I think she even had that I was a different race (so got sent special form for blood test) and that it was my second child. She was so lovely though and came to do one of my home checks a few weeks after birth. Where she equally didn't listen to a word I said but gave me a big hug, which was very much needed!

spinningirl10 · 23/10/2013 16:46

Oh that sounds like a good appointment Gilly.....except for the blood taking!! I don't like that bit anyway....think I'd have been on the floor with all that fuss!

spinningirl10 · 23/10/2013 16:46

Gilly....did they listen to babies heartbeat or is too early for that?

wispaxmas · 23/10/2013 17:00

Gilly, what a report! I'm looking forward to the booking in appt now, as the GP was rather a non-event.

Me: I'm pregnant.
Him: First date of last period?
Me: 27 August
Him: Alright, you'll see hearing from the midwife. Goodbye.

Haha, not sure what I expected, though.

Hello - i'm a lurker, but would like to join. So great to read about everyone's experiences so far.

By my own calculations, I am due on the 8th of June, so 7+3 with my second (have a 17 month old DD), and as I haven't yet had a scan or dr's appointment, I've been a bit cautious about joining the thread.

But after convincing myself this morning that I wasn't pregnant anymore because my symptoms had disappeared, they have returned this evening with a vengeance, so although i feel sick as a dog, I am very relieved!

Anyway, I have a scan on Friday, so hopefully all will be ok. We live in Kenya, so the system is a bit different - private, essentially, so can have an early scan. This will be my second baby abroad - my first was born abroad too but in a different country - and so read about everyone's experiences in the UK with longing...

MarlenaGru · 23/10/2013 17:58

Welcome samovar! Hold old is your other DC?

Liquidambar · 23/10/2013 18:05

What a day. I am so tired. My only symptoms are tender breasts and feeling tired. I am really sorry for those with severe ms.

Took DS to get his flu jab and he was a little star. I asked the nurse about getting my flu jab and she said she would prefer to give it after my 8 weeks appointment with the midwife.

Poor mrsgasman. How scary. I hope everything is okay

How nice sizethree :) I must confess I am not a true "Edinburger" but I have been here for 7 years and I love it

GillyBillyWilly · 23/10/2013 18:18

No they didn't listen to the heartbeat or anything like that.... I don't think they ever do at this stage really!

I was pleased she said a few times and also wrote in my book that I'm "low risk"... Which has somehow made me feel a bit less anxious already!
I just hope everything is ok and the baby is growing happily and healthily! Fingers crossed... Touch wood... And all that jazz! Smile

I told her that I was in 2 minds about getting an early scan and she said there's no need... I have no history of miscarriages... No issues... Low risk... Healthy... Etc etc. And that there's so much more to see and hear at the 12 week scan and the next 4 weeks will fly by etc etc etc.

Basically she said the same as my mum and sister so I've decided to just wait! Grin

Feeling massive at the moment. I'm usually a size 12-14 and suddenly feeling the pinch on size 14 clothes! I can't stop eating.. I'm hungry all the bloody time! Which is very abnormal for me as I used to survive on about 1200 calories a day so no wonder I feel big... I must have put on some serious weight! Blush

Hoping the hunger starts to subside soon and that I don't put anymore serious weight on until I have a big bump to show for it!!!! Grin

Liquidambar · 23/10/2013 18:38

GillyB I think that is a wise decision if you are feeling comfortable and positive. The 12 weeks scan is a great experience.

I have also put on weight and I am only six weeks Blush ! I need to start thinking carefully about what to wear for work. I do not want to tell before 12 weeks. But it seems all my smart clothes are a bit tight at the moment.

Sussex31 · 23/10/2013 18:56

Thinking of you Mrsgasman

spinningirl10 · 23/10/2013 18:59

Gilly it sounds like a very thorough appointment and I'm pleased she put your mind at rest. I have to wait until next month for mine Grin

LadyGoneGaga · 23/10/2013 19:05

Aw, fantastic news, Carrot! It's so emotional seeing your baby for the first time. I can't wait.

Welcome Samovar!

Booking in makes it all seem more real somehow, doesn't it Gilly. Hopefully I will book in at 8 weeks or so which is slightly early here due to past history but have heard zip from the MW so far!

ohcluttergotme · 23/10/2013 19:30

Thanks Stacks, think I'll go to EPU unit as been feeling so sick and washed out, shivery and keep getting pains in my side.
Welcome plus3 (or size3?) I agree thread moves so fast, I can't really check when I'm at work and my the time I get home can't believe how many messages there are!
Gilly, sounds like you've had a really positive experience. I'm the same as you in that I don't normally eat that much at work but just now I'm eating all the time and seems the only thing to stop me feeling sick is more food!
I feel my tummy is bloated and I look 6 months yet I'm only 6 weeks Shock

MrsGasMan · 23/10/2013 19:31

Hi everyone, thank you so much for all the wishes, have very much felt the love today Smile.

Doctor was lovely, I explained that I have no classic ectopic symptoms, and that the bleeding was a tiny amount and has stopped. She did all the usual and was happy-we have now discovered that a few of my family (who I see every day) have a stomach bug, so I'm wondering if that's caused the stomach pain. Now I think about it, the pain was very high up so was probably wind Blush!!

No more bleeding, but I have an early scan booked next Tuesday anyway. Obviously if anything kicks off again ill head to A&E anyway.

Sounds as if there are a few of us in Berkshire! I'm really keen to find real life experiences of the new MLU at Royal Berks, anyone know anyone? My scan is at Frimley though so jaykay I'll let you know what I think this time round!

carrot huge congratulations on the scan Smile

Sorry for the essay, thanks again for all your thoughts, means so much. Thanks

SarahAnderson · 23/10/2013 19:41

I'm having dark thoughts all day today... guess it's become real after four days of knowing that I'm pregnant, and now I'm just starting to imagine losing that lovely secret happy feeling. Starting to worry about every little tummy gurgle. Must stop self googling 'miscarriage'....

spinningirl10 · 23/10/2013 19:42

Great news mrsgasman and good to that you have an early scan next week....always nice to see the little one Grin

cheesysmile · 23/10/2013 19:51

mrsgasman glad things seem ok and lots of luck for Tuesday.

Gilly sounds like booking in appt was a success, looking forward to mine tomorrow now.

Im also piling on the pounds and so bloated. Work clothes not looking great at the moment! But soooo hungry!!!

cheesysmile · 23/10/2013 19:53

Sarah I think thats pretty normal, just try to stay positive and step away from google! Smile

superlambanana · 23/10/2013 20:03

DH and I are wondering whether to tell siblings... Parents know but I'm only 4 weeks so we are worrying! Have you told people? Told DH I'd ask the wisdom of mumsnet Wink

MyNameIsWinkly · 23/10/2013 20:11

super I've told a handful of people, my sister, 2 friends, parents and in-laws. All people whose support I know I can count on if I need it, & who I know won't blab. Well, my mum might blab :)

SarahAnderson · 23/10/2013 20:18

I've told my sisters. They have three kids each and if anything happened id be looking to then for support big time. So there isn't any downside telling them.

Except for their immediate advice on when to return to work which I find rather scary!
