Morning All - hope you are all safe in the weather there.....it all sounds quite dramatic!

London - hope all is well....and for PJen today.

To answer an earlier question, I am going to find out the gender - I did with DD (I do understand the surprise argument - but I am way too controlling not to know! Plus I guess it is a nice surprise at 16 weeks or so too!)

I got a little over-excited and told DD that Mummy has a baby in her tummy (DD is 2)......then started panicking that she would tell everyone. It is ok though......she has decided that it is a 'Pizza baby' Blush too much pizza on holiday!

Ah Nessie I have been close to telling DD I really want to but she is such a chatterbox I thought she would tell everyone at nursery and all our friends! Grin I have told her snippets tho and keep asking if she would like a baby sister or brother - DH keeps telling me off! Smile

Littlepickly I'm sure you prob know but just in case - I changed jobs whilst pregnant with no 1 & then discovered it meant I didn't qualify for statutory maternity pay. If you're a contractor or already thought that through sorry but thought I'd mention it!

Ok so it's early days but I'm already fed up with feeling ill - anyone else just wishing away the next months already?!

littlepickly · 28/10/2013 12:52

bumblebeesmum yeah i have been a bit confused by the SMP stuff - does that mean you are not entitled to any at all?

I thought it you had been employed (even thought changing jobs) that you still got it but you just had to claim differently?

I know I won't get any additional based on my new employers maternity policy but I thought I would still get the basic pay?

Bumblebeesmum · 28/10/2013 13:02

Hi
If you were entitled to statutory maternity pay you would have received 90% pay for I think 6 weeks followed by the remainder of up to 39 weeks at the lower rate around £120 a week or something similar.

If you have worked long enough & earnt enough but haven't worked for employer long enough (ie change jobs) then you won't be entitled to stat maternity pay at all or anything from employer except leave.

You will instead apply for maternity allowance which is a benefit paid directly to you. It is (or was when I claimed) the same amount per week as statutory maternity pay, but you will lose the 6 weeks at 90% of salary, the whole 39 weeks will be at the lower rate.

This all depends on earnings length of service etc & was the rules when I had mine in 2012 - def don't rely on me being up to date or exactly right for you but thought I'd mention it as I got a shock having no gap in employment but not qualifying for stat mat pay

Hope that helps!!

Thanks bumblebeesmum - that does sound right from what I read the other day but it's all so confusing! Oops - oh well! Was desperate to change jobs so will just have to accept it I guess! Thanks for your help! Smile

This may be tmi but I have the most terrible wind. I'm truly scared I may gas us in our sleep. Blush
I didn't have this last time but was hugging toilets day and night by this point.
God, pregnancy is so glamorous! Grin
