The mother a and baby unit sounds great but I can honestly say I was desperate to leave as soon as I could, you will be sharing a room with other mums and their babies. They will cry all night long. I got shouted at by a midwife for not keeping my baby quiet despite having had no sleep in 48 hours and having no idea what to do!
I am really hoping for a home birth this time.

LadyGoneGaga · 27/10/2013 20:32

God yes. Last time my baby slept well but I couldn't sleep a wink due to other babies screaming the WHOLE night. I wanted to escape ASAP. I'd love a home birth. First birth was meant to be a home water birth but had to transfer in as he was asynclitic and got stuck at pushing stage. Second time I had Gestational Diabetes so they insisted on hospital birth and I was induced on my due date. But it was a lovely, peaceful, natural birth once it got going. I am really, really hoping to avoid GD this time so I can finally get a home birth!

seatfor5 · 27/10/2013 21:04

I have GBS so have to stay in hospital for 48 hours for them to monitor the baby! I make DH pay for a private room most hospitals have private maternity rooms the price varys quite a bit I think, Epsom is £180 a night.

wispaxmas · 27/10/2013 21:22

Seatfor5, I was just looking up our new local (fx!) hospital, apparently a private en suite room is available for £120, I would definitely consider it if I have to stay in longer!

I hope to be in and out, faster than the speed of light. If at all possible, I will pay extra for a private room. I had dd during a bank holiday. There was a skeleton staff and soooo many potentially dangerous mistakes were made. I still have another child's hearing test results - they were mixed up with dd's and didn't notice until we were home.
She nearly was given an unnecessary bcg injection as notes were mixed up. I had to remind staff to give us both antibiotics. Horrific. The staff were lovely but far too over stretched.
Sickness is kicking in now and I'm only 5 weeks tomorrow. I so hope I'm not hugging a toilet until 18 weeks again. It was awful last time and I have a 2yo to entertain this time round.

bludgerwitch · 27/10/2013 21:46

I forgot to ask about that at my booking in appt., but I think my maternity ward has private rooms. They also have a home from home unit but by BMI means I can't have a waterbirth and there's no pain management apart from gas and air available and I think I'd rather be somewhere that is prepared for all eventualities.

seatfor5 · 27/10/2013 21:47

With my first DS I was in a ward with 5 other women and it seemed everytime one baby cried it set off the next! So with DS2 & DS3 I was having non of the sharing lark lol! it was really quite nice having 2 days with the baby just me & him.

MarlenaGru · 27/10/2013 21:48

I had a private room as the ward was full when I arrived. Was quieter than the ward but impossible to get anyone to remove my drip thing in my arm and discharge me as I was totally forgotten. They are very over stretched. The delivery suite was lovely but the ward was so unpleasant.

CleverOl10 · 27/10/2013 22:10

I had my ds just 16 minutes after arriving at hospital! Definitely trust your instincts and not the midwives trying to diagnose over the phone! Problem with a private room is that they are not guaranteed. If there are none left you don't get one, even if you have paid. I had to stay in 3 days with ds. It was awful at the time but very soon forgotten when cuddling your little one! Grin

dunkedbiscuits · 27/10/2013 22:17

Can I join?
Due date 26th June for our second DC.
Have had fairly bad period type pains for past few days off - is that normal? With my first I didn't feel pg for weeks as had very little morning sickness so have no idea what's going on.

AuntPittypat · 27/10/2013 22:39

I'm another considering a home birth this time to avoid the hell that was staying in the ward afterwards. Labour and birth were absolutely fine but, oh my god, how I hated that ward!

Is anyone else's skin really bad? I'm so spotty! Last time I just got a spotty chest but this time it's chest and face. Nice!

Welcome and congrats Dunked! I've not experienced it, but I've definitely heard that period type pains are normal. Lots of activity and stretching going on in there!

Magpie78 · 27/10/2013 22:57

Hi Dunked'i had these and still do from about 4 weeks onwards, hope that helps Grin

noseymcposey · 28/10/2013 03:22

Yay I've just eaten a bowl of cheerios!!! The first thing I've been able to eat since Friday evening so for some 50 hours.. I have never enjoyed Cheerios so much in all my life! I have had so much sickness that I think it must have been a bug DP has slept in the spare the last two night so I don't disturb him which is a first in the last 7 years! Feel like waking him up to share the good news :)

rainbowweaver · 28/10/2013 04:27

Hello all, Due date June 27th, DC2. Somewhat unprepared - just took the test last night. Still processing it!

winkly it may be thrush but it may go away by itself. I had that for a short duration in my first pregnancy, took no medications. Wash regularly with water.

ohcluttergotme · 28/10/2013 06:29

Morning all, terrible nights sleep for me. Seem to be so so tired and then a few hours later wake up wide awake. Cats aware that I'm awake so scratch door to get in. Little boy still adjusting to clocks so was awake just after 4! I feel I could cry, have no energy for my children and I've got training at the side of town today so that will be a joy to get to.
Feel like complete poo today.
Sure I'll start to feel better as day/week goes on.
Well done on Cheerios nosy and having the bed to yourself sounds absolute bliss Smile

ohcluttergotme · 28/10/2013 06:30

Welcome rainbow and congratulations Smile

GillyBillyWilly · 28/10/2013 08:23

Morning ladies! My app now says week 9 and baby is the size of a green olive! Smile

I feel so sick and still have diarrhoea... What a magical time! Grin

Snowlet · 28/10/2013 08:26

Wow just caught up on about a million posts, welcome to the still arriving BFPs :) and good luck to London, I really hope it's nothing love.... and congrats to those with early, healthy scans! You're braver than I am (decided I couldn't face possibility of them seeing nothing and the associated worry)

Last night we told DP's parents, I was so worried because we're not married and we had some problems earlier this year so thought maybe his parents would actually be worried/disappointed, but they were happy, his mum cried. Feel better now.

Last two days my MS has mostly gone away, it's an eerie feeling, but considering nothing seems to be wrong, feels like a positive. If it wasn't pissing it down I'd have gone for a run this morning. Could also have to do with taking the Floradix, but can only say that anecdotally.

Hope everyone is okay in the storm!

Oh, re: itchy bits, I've had that too, what I did is trim very short and then give a bit of an extra scrub and some lotion, I've had SUPER dry skin (must be a symptom for me) and that apparently extended to the bits region.

Magpie78 · 28/10/2013 08:37

Morning all. Rubbish day, roof tile has flown off and gone through my windscreen.......and I feel sick Sad

bludgerwitch · 28/10/2013 08:45

Good morning. I hope everyone made it through the storm without major damage, PIL is supposed to fly into Belfast from London today, it'll be interesting to see whether he makes it. Hope everyone is keeping safe and can stay out of the chaos.

Ah well, at least it's nice to share the misery of ms with others - sorry Grin. I'm staying home today, I've almost fainted twice since getting out of bed and even just sitting here on the sofa typing this my vision's quite blurry and I feel sooooo queasy.

I think I shall turn the laptop off, as well (too ill to Mumsnet, now there's a shocker!), and just have trashy TV on in the background....

MarlenaGru · 28/10/2013 08:54

Thanks to the storm I am working from home today. Such a relief not to have to drag myself to the train.

SicknSpan · 28/10/2013 09:13

Congratulations rainbow and dunked and welcome to the June bug bus :)

clutter hope you feel better soon. Make sure you are kind to yourself today!

Re: ward vs room with both ds1 and ds2 I was on the ward. Yes noisy but I was woken more by my babies than other people's as I was so excited about having a brand new baby each time that I couldn't settle much anyway.I kept on waking up to look at them, soppy old thing that I am :)
Half term here and hyperemesis under control control so may be brave and venture to indoor soft play. ear defenders at the ready!

HannahC1989 · 28/10/2013 09:14

Morning everyone. Hope everyone is well and safe after that storm. Few broken garden ornaments but nothing major. Counting down the days til friday for my 8 week scan :-) xx

SicknSpan · 28/10/2013 09:19

Oops cross posted with lots. Morning all.

littlepickly · 28/10/2013 09:20

I am working from home too - trees down everywhere on my route to work so nice to be tucked up at home - I was supposed to be handing my notice in today though Hmm

I am hoping for a home birth this time, DH is unsure but I would really like one as had normal birth with DD so hopefully all will be ok. Just would love to be tucked up in my own bed right away as I found the lack of sleep in hospital drained me so much! The experience was fine in general but just would be lovely to be in own surroundings.

Aunt my skin hasn't been the best lately - I think it's to do with the hormones - with last DD I had a really spotty bum in the last few weeks (TMI) was sooooo embarrassed Blush really hope that doesn't happen again this time - ha!
