Pram That's some impressive maths. It must be fluid and stuff. If you are feeling great and looking great then that's all that matters!

Prammy I think you're looking fab. And you're feeling well which is the main thing. I haven't put weight on, but there's a reason for it. I also don't weigh myself. I've fad bad relationships with weight in the past, and it's better that I don't do it Smile hope you're night with Damien goes well remember to sleep with one eye open

I also don't get why you would want to carry around a decaying placenta

I don't think I've put on much weight, if any (though this has reminded me to get on the Wii and check) - but this is due to feeling quite sick and struggling to eat enough, and therefore losing quite a bit in the first few months, not because of any deliberate strategy. I have developed more of a bump though and can feel movements so hopefully I'm managing to eat enough for the baby anyway.
Lyra, that sounds scary, I'm glad it seems to have settled. I panic every time I get any kind of twinge, and have had some quite bad constipation pains.

Imeg · 12/10/2013 12:29

PS my chest was very much the first area to expand (well before any sort of bump appeared) and I was really surprised at it happening so early as in most animals it doesn't happen until much nearer the birth.

Still in hospital eating disgusting lunch. They lost my blood so have taken more and I have to wait again. Pain came back about 10am. Got some sleep. Phone about to die. No charger.

I hope they get some results soon.

DP just arrived with my charger, book and a bag of goodies (chocolate, fruit, juice etc). He's had to dash off to work now.

The doc came and said she's not happy to send me home while I'm still having contractions. She's going to see if the consultant can do my 20-week scan today instead of the 18th.

At least I now have enough stuff to make this bearable. My car is in the car park without a pay and display ticket because I didn't know I'd be staying so I've probably got a parking ticket. Ho hum.

Pram, good luck with Spawn of Satan.

I also don't get the carrying a rotten placenta thing. How does it benefit the baby? I'm sure even our prehistoric ancestors would find a sharp rock to cut the bugger off so why are women in this day and age carrying it around?

Grey, are you planning to eat yours? I know it's supposed to be nutritious but it's still human tissue so I just couldn't eat it Confused

Lyra, I'm so worried about you. I can't believe they haven't scanned you as a first stage in their investigations. I will say a prayer for you whether you like it or not Thanks

My vague understanding of biology(?) is that once it no longer has an active blood supply living tissue begins to rot V quickly. (They won't reattach a digit after a remarkably short amount of time.) Why would you want to leave rotting tissue attached to your precious newborn? Even dogs bite the umbilical cord.

Beccadugs · 12/10/2013 13:51

Also, how do you dress them?

Lyra so sorry to hear you are in hosp. Sending lots of vibes your way and thinking of you.

Good luck this evening Pram.

They did a quick scan last night because the midwife couldn't find the heartbeat with her rubbish doppler but they're thinking of doing a proper one today.
The doc said my cervix is slightly open but that's probably because I've had two babies before and it doesn't fully close again after that. Hope that's all it is. Doesn't explain the flipping contractions.

Thanks for all your well wishes (and your prayers, Pram). I appreciate the support. I haven't told anyone in RL. My mum would only fuss and panic and I could do without that right now.

Lyra lovely, I hope they scan you soon and put your mind at rest. Hoping those contractions stop soon x

Beelzebub is here. He terrorised the cats and then promptly declared himself 'bored'. I'm bored, too, of telling him to get off my furniture. I don't think the floor has been invented where he comes from Sad

'Would you like to watch these children's films I taped for you, Oliver?' says I, hopefully. 'Nah. I don't watch TV any more'. Fuck. This is Very Bad News in my house.

Is he interested in any activities pram? Like drawing or play doh, any toys he particularly likes? Do you have an iPad or anything he can play on? It must be hard for you and him. My own children are getting on my wick today, I couldn't cope with anyone else's right now.

Thanks Ice good to know someone else moved house while in pregnancy proper. I was hoping it would have happened months ago though at least this way I won't actually have to do any lifting.

Pram I just can't keep up with you chattering ladies! Feel for you with stepson. I wouldn't tolerate anyone terrorising the cat except me with excessive cuddling
