evenhope - my MS makes my tummy feel very swollen and tender, and I can't face food even though I know it will make me feel better (apart from cereal in the morning that seems to keep coming back up). It's really bad at night/morning and I keep waking up feeling sick. It's also bad around 7pm for some reason, which is a pain as thats dd's bedtime and I'm finding it hard to bath her and get her down without throwing up. I just drink water at room temperature, and the occasional fun size coke for emergencies.

DollyP · 20/08/2006 19:55

Hello ladies! Haven't been around for a couple of days and I've missed so much! Where to start....

Stretchmarks my love - so sorry to read your news. Take care of yourself and hope to see you on another ante natal thread soon.

Evenhope - ms can take many forms I think. With DD I was head in a bucket for about 8 weeks. With this one, I have a terrible taste in my mouth, too much saliva (sorry for TMI) and I feel very idigested and sick, without actually being sick much. Diet coke, fizzy water, dry toast and rich tea biscuits are my salvation. Plus about 5 packets of tictacs a day. I had some barley sugar yesterday as I had to work and it really helped.

Fatfox - good news about your scan. Will keep fingers crossed for good blood results tomorrow.

Glad you are ffeeling better Madhide and the bleeding has stopped.

Kittywits you are my heroine! A load of 8 year old boys ! And you are still functioning! Take my hat off to you dear.

good news about your scan too Nova . You must be very relieved.

Piffle - hope your sickness is easing off and you have managed some fluids. I know it always feels worse for me when I haven't drunk enough so I hope you have kept some down.

Hello to all the other ladies! Hope you are all doing well and have had a good weekend. I went to work yesterday. Didn't want to go at all, but it is some freelance stuff which I had agreed to do ages ago. If I'd blown them out at the 11th hour, my name would have been off their books for ever, which I can't really afford. Was terrified about how I'd manage as I had been so rough for most of last week, but thankfully divine intervention or something got me through and I even managed a few of the sandwiches laid on at lunch! Needless to say I was snoring on the sofa at 7pm but at least I went! Got this week off so can get my strength back a bit before I return to work after the bank hol. We had a power cut at 4.30am this morning though and our burglar alarm went beserk and wouldn't switch off for over 2 hours! Have put cards apologising through the neighbours' doors and hope that they won't hate me for ever. Am completely knackered as a result though (as I suspect are they....)

Take care and look forward to hearing more news from you all soon XXXXXXX

Piffle · 21/08/2006 11:10

Morning everyone
hope you all had a great weekend.
I feel really ok.
M/s seems to have disappeared or retreated to barely there which now of course means I'm convinced something has gone wrong...
Double edged bloody sword...

pennygaff · 21/08/2006 11:19

Hi Fellow ms club members
Evenhope I had shooting pains down below and I am sure it is a water infection. I have always been prone to them but pregnancy has really brought them out, I have found half Cranberry Juice and half hot water to be a good cure. MW should monitor you.
My ms is really terrible, Smells usually set me off . My Kitchen cubboards suddendly all smell, Our fabric conditioner, My Dp, My own wee in a morning, Bonfires and oh god BBQs just make me heave! being presented with a BBQ burger recently sent me into a retch-a-thon.
I aso have a feeling of wanting to Burp all the time, does anyone else get that?

pennygaff · 21/08/2006 11:26

Also having an appetite is just a distant memory, I am 9+3 and lost the desire for any food about 4 weeks ago.

kittywits · 21/08/2006 11:28

hello all. Had to take dd1 to A&e this morning as sh'd banged her face leaping around and had a really deep gash right under her nose, almost cut completley through her top lip.
In A&E I actually had to go and throw up. I'd been feeling really sick in the car to. Up until now I'd only felt queasy. It was only on the way home, whilst still feeling awful that I remembered thatI'd not had anything atall to eat since I'd got uo, duh!!!

Piffle · 21/08/2006 11:31

penny last time with dd I had hyperemesis as I simply could not eat, it came as shock as with my firt pregnancy with ds I had no sickness.
I simply rested and ate sod all, threw up loads and lost weight - a stone in 4 weeks

this time I decided that I would eat every two hours whether I needed to or not, things that I could face, like an apple, weetabix, porridge, toasted muffin, small ham salad, potato salad, banana on toast etc
I always eat cereal before bed
Also getting enough rest is vital - bloody hard when you have other kids though.

I do not know if this is just a different pregnancy but i do know that last week I felt as bad as I had with dd and had to make some changes to ensure I did not become that ill.
it is a PAIN eating all the time but touch wood it has worked.
I'm 9+4 too.

pennygaff · 21/08/2006 11:58

Hi Piffle, I have found I feel better after eating something but then I am on a downward slide till my next snack. I had a bowl of instant noodles yesterday (health junkie that I am) and I felt really great for about 10 minutes afterwards, Then the feeling of nausea crept back in.
Do you get headaches most days too?

egypt · 21/08/2006 12:23

hi, can i join you? am 9 weeks today and have been keeping an eye on this thread! have one dd who is 2 years 3 months.

feeling pretty rough too, and like you evenhope have been waking in the night with a stitch in my side but i actually think it only happens when my bladder is full. almost like holding myself creates a strain on already limp muscles. hope you find out yours is nothing to worry about. i think i had it with dd too.

finding ms is making me hungry all the time. having to eat loads especially cereal, toast, pastries, oranges and beef!! no way any chicken, ugh, or veg, blergh.

now i feel sick just saying it!
fizzy water is good.

not sure if any of you have mentioned these yet but they are certainly worth a try. you can get them from boots about £7.99 and although i still feel a bit rotten, they have improved my ms massively from before i had them.

kittywits · 21/08/2006 12:46

Welcome Egypt, when are you due?

pennygaff · 21/08/2006 12:47

Thanks Egypt, I had just bought some on Ebay, I really am willing to try anything at the moment!

morocco · 21/08/2006 14:41

hi all

sorry to hear your news stretchmarks, hope it works out for you really soon

flying visit to a&e sounds stressful start to the day, kittywits! hope your dd is ok now.

welcome, egypt, a fellow african nation!

I hope everyone's ms is going to pass soon. Mine has gone now, I say with confidence, because on Saturday, ds1 was sick all over me, from head to toe, and if that didn't make me vom, then nothing can!! we took him in to the hospital for observation on Saturday night but all was ok although they didn't let us out til 10.30pm so even I was almost asleep by then! he's well on his way to recovery now which is fab news as we always worry til he starts to get on the mend.

I managed to pull a muscle in my shoulder helping dh carry huge sofa bed into the house. From now on, no heavy lifting for me!

fatfox - I love Morocco!!! We were in Rabat working there for 4 years but travelled around a fair bit. where are you going for the hols? I wish I was going then, it's a nice time of year, I can't stand the heat after about May. My last chance to go for a while now, before baby no 3 cramps my style.

Piffle · 21/08/2006 16:32

Welcome Egypt! Yes I have seabands but have not needed them for the last 3 days!

penny I did get really bad headaches last week, esp after going off tea, I also think I was dehydrated, so I'm trying to drink more water.
I've not had headaches for 3 days either and it has improved how I feel, the hedaches were really severe almost migraine like and paracetamol did not touch them.
Sympathies if you're like this

LaidbackinAsia · 21/08/2006 17:10

Welcome Egypt and other new folk !

Haven't been around much for the last week as have had the the most annoying cough from hell. Coughing all the time to the point of retching. DH giving me large bowls of steaming water to inhale which is helping.

Piffle - totally identify with your lack of MS and subsequent paranoid thoughts...All of a sudden last week I stopped feeling sick and am sure my boobs were less sore.....so convinced myself everything has gone tits up... anyway not due back to UK to see Midwife until 11th Sept - and am 10 + 3 today - so prob wont get a scan until I am 14/15 weeks anyway. (the nearest scanning equipment is a bumpy 4 hour journey from me.)

Enough winging from me....cough, cough....Hope everyone has a good day and manages to eat something without puking. Another hot pan of water has arrived ....

fatfox · 21/08/2006 20:08

Hi Marchers

Welcome to Egypt. Do you have a due date?

Piffle - glad you're MS is retreating, I think mine is too (12+2 now). I'm starting to actually fancy particular foods again. Penny, sorry you're suffering so much. Mine peaked at about 9-10 weeks, but not as bad as yours.

A lot of people believe that MS is worse with girl pregnancies. Mine was - has anyone else found the same?

Kittywits and Morocco, I hope your children recover quickly, poor mites.
Morocco, we're going to Agadir to a proper holiday resort with kids club etc this time. We may get to go on a couple of trips though. I'm really glad the holiday is happening in the second trimester, 'cos I alsways feel really ill in the first, which is a waste of a trip abroad. My Moroccan next door neighbours have just arrived back from a 4 weeks trip back home, lucky things!

We went for our Fetal Medicine Centre visit today. The scanner was incredibly detailed, could see blood flow, heart valves, mouth opening, gulping etc; all the fingers and toes! In theory you can just about see the gender at 12 weeks, but baby revealed nothing in that department.

I walked in with a FMC risk of 1:29 of Downs

Afer the full 45 min scan + bloods, the risk has been adjusted to 1:559

I now have the same risk as a 31 year old (not the body though, unfortunately!).....and can hardly believe it as have been so stressed due to age related risks and missed MC last year.

I'm back to work tomorrow after a 10 day break, so feel I can safely come "out" now, and hopefully get some sympathy for feeling so tired all the time!!!!

pennygaff · 21/08/2006 20:25

Hi Fatfox great news! Plus it will be a relief to tell work and friends, I can't wait, no more excuses about kidney infections or my fav- food posioning (they must thk I have a flithy house)
My ms has reached great new levels, was just sick in the bath! 8-P

pennygaff · 21/08/2006 20:27

there really should be a emoticons for sick...lol

Piffle · 21/08/2006 20:47

Oh penny you have to laugh don't you. otherwise you might go ever so slightly mad.
I do not know what to think with my m/s.
One pregnancy with no sickness
One with hyperemesis.
this one with a bit of both...
Very weird, am prodding boobs frequently to ascertain the still pregnant sting. but a little nausea returned (almost welcomed) before tea tonight.
Am chuffed as got around to doing a few outstanding jobs around the house today - ironing, hoovering and sorting out my linen cupboard Anthea Turner stylee [angelic emoticon]
9+4 seems very early for m/s to retreat though...
I think I just need something to be worried about
got my consultant appt thursday to book Nuchal scan - they are not readily availabel here but because of dd (Noonan Syndrome albeit mild) Nuchal is one of the only flags for it.
Am very unlikely to have another baby with it though, but hey whats a pregnancy without paranoia...
Anyway enough of my waffling on...
Penny get well soon

kittywits · 21/08/2006 21:47

Moroccco, thanks for the tip about the oils in the moisturiser for dd2's ezcema. It does seem to be keeping her skin much softer. You should spread the news!

ProfYaffle · 22/08/2006 07:10

I don't suppose anyone knows if there's anything you can take for hayfever while pg? I've been up since 5.30am sneezing and didn't get to sleep til about midnight for the same reason!

Kitty - how's your dd?

fatfox · 22/08/2006 08:24

Penny - sorry you're feeling so rough. Are you vomiting at work?

ProYaffle - as far as I know anti-histomines are OK whilst PG. You could ask your pharmasist to give you one they know is OK.

All these sick people!!

LaidbackinAsia · 22/08/2006 09:03

Hi ProfYaff... sorry to hear about your hayfever . I just asked my DH for you about the antihistamines (he is a Dr) - he says that there are some that aren't recommended in pregnancy - so it's best to ask your GP or pharmacist. Hope you feel better soon.

leogaela · 22/08/2006 09:44

Finally, I've caught up with reading the posts. I have been doing over the weekend but never managed to get to the end and post!

Stretchmarks

Welcome to the new people !

Someone way back someone had shooting pains down the sides. Do you sometimes get it when you turn over or sit up? It could be ligament pains. I had it when pregnant with ds and have had a bit this time. If it is its nothing to worry about, its just things starting to stretch. Try taking a magnesium supplement.

I have to say I have been so lucky with the sickness this time, particularly considering its supposed to be twice as bad with twins. I've done what Piffle has done, getting as much sleep as possible, making sure I eat within every 2 hours and don't over eat, drink plenty of water. Also I found that eating sugary, sweet food made it worse - I guess because of the blood sugar lows and highs.

Well, I will try to keep up with you all over the next few days while I'm at work, then we are off for 3 weeks holiday !!!!!

ProfYaffle · 22/08/2006 10:40

Thanks for the info, I thought all antihistamines were off limits.

themum · 22/08/2006 15:26

Can anyone tell me what the time window for the nuchal fold scan test is? I am about 11weeks and no scan date + midwife is on holiday. Am worried it might all happen to late?

I have been advised by several docs that piriton is an ok anti-histamine during pregnancy. Some dcs say none ok.
