Well, ran 8 year old ds1's party today. very lively 8 year old boys. I was suprised at how much they still liked to play the traditional games. Knackered now.

Any news from those having scans today?

It's very quiet here tonight. I'm on alot 'cos dh has put his laptop into the kitchen for me!! That's lethal really, doesn't he realise there'll be no dinners cooked?!

wheelybug · 18/08/2006 20:17

sorry to hear the news Pinkranger, Stretchmarks and Kiwi. It seems not to have been a good batch . Thinking of you all.

fatfox · 18/08/2006 21:30

Kittywits et all

I had my 12 week NHS nuchal today at Queen Charlottes. Was very worried, but results OK considering I'll be 43 when beanie arrives.

Walked in with 1 in 36 chance of a Downs baby
Nuchal fold was 1.7mm thick, which is well within the normal range (anything over 3.5mm is considered risky)
Nasal bone was also present
heart beating away and VERY lively baby, which appeared to be breakdancing - to the exent it took 30 minutes to get a measurement as it wouldn't keep still :0:0 I think that's a good sign too (the liveliness)

Final result was a 1:167 risk, which is actually quite good for my age, although anything within 1:300 is considered a risk.

The NHS test gives 85% accuracy as to risk and we have the Fetal Medicine Centre tests on Monday, which are 97% accurate, so we're hopefully nothing nasty will appear in the blood tests on Monday.

On the way to QC, decided to explain to DS and DD what was about to happen. DS asked, "how will we know if its a boy, will it have a blue blanket?", progressing to "how do you get milk in your boobies, so you can feed the baby?".

Nova, what happened at your scan today? Is baby ok?

kittywits · 18/08/2006 22:28

Fatfox, that sounds like pretty positive news. It must be a very tense time for you. Hopefully when all the testing's finished you'll be able to relax a bit and enjoy things.
It must have been lovely to see your baby. Isn't it amazing how much they develop in such a short space of time?
For me it becomes more amazing with each pregnancy. I appreciate the miracle of life so much more than I used to.

eidsvold · 18/08/2006 23:09

they don't do the routine 12 week dating scan here in Aus unless it is a high risk pregnancy or bleeding or dates are totally unsure. But dh wanted me to have a nuchal fold test and so we are off for that on the 18th September.

flannelettepyjamas · 18/08/2006 23:44

So sorry to hear your news Stretchmarks and K1W1.
I hope you're both holding up.
Hope to see you around soon.
A big glass of wine sounds like a great idea Stretchmarks.

flannelettepyjamas · 18/08/2006 23:51

I had a 4D scan when DD was 21 weeks and she looked like ET!
Luckily she no longer has the ET look about her
Actually, she looked really like a boy on the scan ( I know that's totally ridiculous at that ealy age) and so we were quite surprised that she turned out to be a girl. She gets mistaken on a daily basis for a boy now, so maybe there was something in it after all.
Kittywits, I agree that this time around it all feels quite different and somehow even more special than it did last time (although that was VERY special in its own way, being the first pregnancy) as I now know what I get at the end
I still have quite mild MS - nothing that is not assuaged by a BigMac (the first I've had in about 5 years!), a Kitkat or other such unhealthy fare!
Scan booked for next Thursday [tremble]

novadandypowder · 19/08/2006 09:43

Hi everyone, didn't get a chance to pop on yesterday as DH working from home on the poot and then it was BB final night.

Scan was good, beanie is growing well, heartbeat present and correct and it even did a little wiggle for us. Glad we went for it .

Sorry to hear your news Stretchmarks .

nova 8+3

novadandypowder · 19/08/2006 09:45

I had a 4d scan with dd at 28wks and it was wonderful. I'd had a really awful pg and it gave me a much needed lift. Agree with Jay though, now feel I need to do it with db so I don't show any favouritism - lol!

kittywits · 19/08/2006 10:53

Fab news Nova

fatfox · 19/08/2006 12:52

Nova

Very relieved to hear your scan was good and that beanie is growing well.

Nova/Jaysecond/Flannelette - I think you've persuaded me that a 3d scan may be worth the investment. Can you recommend anywhere in London?

I think it would really help DS and DD to bond if they can watch a video/DVD of forthcoming rival, before it arrives and takes over Mummy! I'll never forget the look on DS's face when DH brought him to the hospital to meet his new younger sister. He had obviously been told all abot er beforehand, but looked extremely shocked and exclaimed, "Daddy, that baby's eating my Mummy's boobies!" He did recover eventually!

babycakes26 · 19/08/2006 18:05

Good news Nova and Fatfox on the scans - fingers crossed for your BT results Fatfox. I have had some sharp pains on and off all day today on my rh side so taking it easy...can't say I am finding it easy to relax though

babycakes26 · 19/08/2006 18:07

Forgot to say ms kicked in with a vengeance yesterday for the first time - yuk!!!! now had it 2 mornings on the run from 6am ish to mid morning - the nausea has been quite overpowering and has woken me up...hopefully it will ease off a bit soon...

evenhope · 20/08/2006 14:38

Haven't been able to get on the pc for a while without someone reading over my shoulder. I've kept getting a pain like a stitch on the left hand side down low. I woke up with it the other night and it was so bad I couldn't stand up, but had gone by the morning. Went to A&E Friday and got told off for not going to GP first. She asked if the pg had been confirmed or was it just my say-so! (Last year I went to the GP at 8 weeks. She didn't say one word and sent me straight to the MW. Would be nice if there was a standard procedure).

Anyway had a scan this morning. The radiographer said "there's the baby and there's it's heart beating". I thought "baby? what baby?" so I'm obviously in complete denial after 2 missed m/c. So it is real and there is really something in there!

I have a fibroid but they have no idea what is causing the pain. Nothing on the scan. They thought at A&E it may be a water infection, so it looks like that's it. They say nothing to worry about.

evenhope · 20/08/2006 14:43

Can I just ask about MS. I had it with all my viable pgs and with none of the m/c. It started last week but it isn't the same as I had before. It feels like a combination of being hungry and over-full, almost a gassy feeling. It comes on every day at about 4 pm unless set off earlier by bad smells. Does anyone else's feel like this?

I can't drink tea and I've gone right off orange. MW said I'm not drinking enough but anything I can think of (except banana nesquik) makes me heave. What is everyone else keeping down?

Piffle · 20/08/2006 16:27

I'm struggling with fluids too to be honest
I get by on hot water with lemon, odd cup of milk and that's it
I too am off tea.
My m/s has been ok this weekend, dp has beem=n great, getting toast in bed, sleeping whenever I feel like it and helping with shopping and doing most of the meals.
I feel pretty shattered and am really not loking forward to him being away this week again...

I had my midwife appt and they were very enthusiastic about homebirths! As is the consultant I'm under HOORAY!
Nova good news about your scan, welcome to any new ladies and good luck to those that were having bleeding xxxxxxxxxxxx
