Morning all,

Wasn't the temp a killer last night? Bought a fan yesterday but couldn't be bothered to assemble it. Number one job for today.

Using the heat as motivation for the piles of baby washing I need to do - got a load of nappies on as we speak.

Sympathise with those of you with DH/DP tensions. Saturday had to drive 5.5 hours each way to collect our new (twin-friendly) car (bought off ebay). Since DH had to get back for a work commitment we "didn't have time" to stop for lunch or anything but the odd loo break. Honest mistake in working out how long it would all take, but was I by the time we got home? I went straight for the chinese home delivery menu

Aussiemama - Hobart, hey? Very nice part of the world, Tassie, but a bit different to London life! I'm well-entrenched here too now. I bet, like me, you never imagined having kids anywhere but Aus - still can't quite believe it. My DH is Aussie (married before we came to UK), so once the twins get here, we might find our priorities change and we want to head back. Nice to have another Aussie on here .

olivo · 03/07/2006 09:48

morning! anyone not melted yet? was 28 dgrees in my room when I got into work at 7.45! , doesnt bode well for the rest of the day!! am currently revelling in an IT lesson in an air conditioned room - bliss at 16 degrees!
my dh finally came into his own last night (after my stropping that there were 2 of us not handling this pregnancy very well, on saturday) by getting ice packs for my feet and propping open doors and windows at quarter to two this morning!! glad he's not the only dp being un-understanding at times!

booby - your wedding sounded good!

how is everyone else this morning?

Arabica · 03/07/2006 10:36

Aussiemum, I don't believe I've said hello and welcome. Have never been to Hobart but I did live in Sydney for a couple of years. Back home in UK now--I miss those beaches and lovely coffee bars.
Warning, whingey rant/moan alert!
Wish I was in a pool! Am in my office/sauna trying to finish bloody feature which is neverending. Downstairs are two carpet fitters and I am having nightmares that they are going to fit the wrong carpet and I won't notice because my brain is elsewhere (last week our bathroom mirror arrived and I was so shocked by seeing my reflection that I didn't notice it was all wonky and not what we had ordered!)
I'm definitely having some pg related body-image issues. A friend took a pic of all the pg mums with kids in reception class and I was shocked when I saw how huge I looked. I seem to have grown an extra face never mind an extra chin! And I've got the world's biggest bum...moan moan moan...

olivo · 03/07/2006 10:56

Arabica - I know what you mean about the image thing - I'm none too impressed with what looks back at me from the mirror!
as for pregnancy 'mush brain', i tried to put the milk away in the downstairs loo the other day - what is going on?!?!

melsy · 03/07/2006 10:58

awwwwwwwwww Arabica , we are all in right ole state !!!! big (((((((((HUGS)))))))). Hope the day doesnt stay this way for you , did you read about my trick with being starkers , get wet and stand in front of fan ??? supose you cant do that with carpet fitters around lol.

Glad the wedding was good booby , glad your having an up day. Remember how that feels for a bad day.

Mad week ensews (sp?), appts appts and more appts , Im going a bit nuts with it all, as dd going to nursury is a chance for me to relax ha ha , but thought it more sensible to do all appts when shes there.

Found out last night that a close family friends husband died yesterday morning, its so weird to think hes gone. Ive also got a jewish wake tonighrt for my other friend father. Its been so weird the last 10 days , so many sad things. I must find some positive and joyous things. With all my worries about birth , ive forgotten to get excited about having a new little person.

oh , midwife carer just called to cancel my appt today , her secretary says they have to work on wards today, as its sooo soo busy ??!!! Very worrying that its soo busy there. hmmmmm I hope they dont turn me away in 5wks time eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkkkkkkk.

melsy · 03/07/2006 11:01

lol Olivo milk in loo NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICE!!

Also have lardy bum thigh paranoia about my image, doesnt even matter if dh shouts that I "look fine" . Just dont believe him.

Arabica · 03/07/2006 11:04

Sorry to hear about your bereavements Melsy & thanks for the good wishes. Are the Jewish family having the formal mourning procedure (called 'shiva')? Cos if so it'll be more like a prayer meeting than a wake, just to warn you in case you haven't been to one before.

BigHotMama · 03/07/2006 12:25

Morning fellow fatties, I am too feeling rather whale-like and finding it hard to keep up with anybody walking with me, having to tell them to slow down as my bump weighs too heavy and have noticed the baby has started kicking me really hard when I walk which feels mad.

I know what you mean PT/Melsy about craving a ciggy, I used to smoke menthol when out drinking and at the pub on Saturday watching I saw a box of Menthols on the table and did imagine hvaing one as even the smell was nice . But I quickly snapped myself out of it and took a sip of my cold pint of Magners cider - has anyone else tried this drink yet? Its absolutley beaut in this weather - loads of ice and so refreshing.

I managed to waddle round birmingham bullring for 2 hours yesterday morning with sister in tow carrying all my shopping bless her! Bought a few more mat clobber as all i want to wear at the moment is tent-like-no-bra-nonsense dresses. got fe bits for baba from M&P's - bouncy chair, nursery stuff etc. My sister took me to Pumpkin Patch which have the most gorgeous little outfits for baba's, was coo-ing over the whole shop, bet they thought I was mad! Still have no nursing bra's yet - where's best place to get them? My boobs havent got any bigger but my back seems to be getting wider - bra size now 40d and feeling bit tight. Booby feel for you with your size JJ's hun!

Have got 8 days left at work now, driving to work is doing my head in, there seems to be so many prats on the road it makes you feel so vulnerable.

Bought a mini aqua fan from Superdrug yesterday it sprays water aswell as keeps you fannied! Hoping to pack it in my hospital bag!

Did anybody else's DH get really upset and cry at the results on Saturday? Mine was sobbing for hours and nothing I did or said would help! Kept thinking 'Hang on! Its only football - I'm meant to be the hormonal one here - have you any idea what its like being this big, not drinking, not smoking, sweating like a biyatch, wearing tents, elephant ankles and stinging heartburn etc etc!' Some men just dont know they're born sometimes!

melsy · 03/07/2006 12:44

Arabica me is jewish girl!! , just come and look at all the gefilte fish , herring and smoke salmon in the fridge !!!! Im just worried that Ill start right balling during the prayers, its all a bit emotional this week, my sense of humour seems inappropriate really , but it seems to be helping me not go mad today!!

Now I have to find something appropriate for wearing near a rabbi, as its so hot and all my maternity is strappy, the only correct stuff I have is long sleeve , which is far too much in this heat ???????

Bhm your post made me larf !!!"sweating like a biyatch".

BigHotMama · 03/07/2006 12:50

Melsy glad I made you smile chick , keep ya chin up and hope the prayers go ok x

sarahlou1uk · 03/07/2006 13:14

Well, after dropping off ds at nursery this morning, I decided to go clothes shopping at our shopping centre as I have got 2 weddings to go to - one in 2 weeks time and one at the end of August. I'll probably still have a jelly belly for the second one so whatever I get will do for both. Went in Mothercare, H&M, Marks, etc and saw nothing suitable. Then decided to go into Evans and got two tops! All I need now is some nice shoes and a matching bag and perhaps a hat! (but I'm not really a hat person). Think I might need a new black bra as well - my bras still fit me but I've had this one over 2 years and it's getting a bit yucky looking. This heat is really getting to me at the minute. Thought I'd be ok at the centre but this is the week that they decide to install new air conditioning so the old one has been turned off! Nice . Anyway, ds was picked up at nursery by his nannan and when I got to their house, was told that they had lost his sunhat at school (the school not his nannan!) Wouldn't normally mind but that was the only one that covered his ears and back of the neck up and had his name wrote in it! I've now got to go out this afternoon and get him another one!

Sorry for the moan - how is everyone doing?

dressedupnowheretogo · 03/07/2006 13:35

sarah lou hugs babe last you need

i had a feather thing in my hair was quite fetching cost 12 quid from next

Arabica · 03/07/2006 13:39

Hope you find something rabbi-suitable, Melsy. Smoked salmon and gefilte fish, mmm...but my top favourite is chopped herring, oy vey it's gorgeous! I'm lucky cos I live near some good delis; Stamford Hill, up the road from me, is home to the Lubavitch community and they do great food (their dress sense isn't so great, however). I describe myself as a secular Jew, which basically means I do bagels but don't do bibles, brisses or barmitzvahs!

frodofitz · 03/07/2006 13:42

Afternoon all, totally with everyone with this ridiculous weather, i'm currently munching my way through a box of 40 scooby doo ice pops (£1 from Asda!)and contemplating braving the outdoors to fill the car for stuff for dump!! Managed to finish work 2 weeks early and not having to start maternity early, how cool is that! Insisted that if i was going to have to start mat early (been off sick for 6 weeks-depression) then i would go back to work and screw up thier plans to cover me considering not one person has contacted me from hr or management in all the time i've been off! Do i sound really ungrateful?? Oh well this cookie is starting to toughen back up!
Hope everyone is ok
xx

Arabica · 03/07/2006 13:45

BHM, your poor hubby! Doesn't he realise we never win on penalties? They don't know they're born, do they. My DH was upset about an insect bite. You'd think it was a bloody cobra that had attacked himhis right ankle was slightly swollen whereas mine are now 11 inches widenext to it DH's looked like a chopstick.

lunavix · 03/07/2006 13:50

sarah lou I just bought a lovely outfit from New Look of all places for a wedding intwo weeks....

White lineny trousers (REALLY COMFY) they also come in 3/4 but my ankles too big lol. Plus a very long strappy top in green and white pattern with sequins, it ties under boobs so you look pg not fat!

BigHotMama · 03/07/2006 14:27

Arabica, he was crying before the penalties had even started lol? Whats that all about? he was so sure we were gonna win the world cup this year! Dream on! Lol at your DH insect bite upset! They would never be able to cope with what we are about to go through would they?

Sarahlou have you tried debenhams? Saw some lovely things you can stick in your hair perfect for weddings and wont mess your hair up like hats do. Hope you find something nice soon hun.

Frodo you lucky girl finishing 2 weeks earlier bet your relieved. At the end fo the day your just another number to them and they couldnt even be bothered to ring and see how you were? Typical! Good on yer I say! Hope your feeling better x

Luna did you get them from normal section of New Look or were they mat wear? I looked in there yesterday and couldnt find any mat wear althought I'm sure they were having a new range fo maternity gear earlier this year? Ended up buying from Asda and H&M in the end!

My dress is very damp after sitting on my ass all day long and swaeting me cobs off! Have a fan blowing behind me but its not doing me any favours! Feel the need to go jump in a canal or something daft?

lunavix · 03/07/2006 14:43

BHM - mat section of new look, a new one opened locally. Limited choice but these two lits are lovely.

sarahlou1uk · 03/07/2006 15:24

Luna & BHM - went in New Look but they only do maternity upto size 18 - I'm more of a 20! Anyway, will go to Debenhams probably tomorrow and see what they have got in the hair department. Currently munching my way through a box of sun lollies while ds is asleep on the sofa. Will probably have to go to tesco when he wakes up 'cause I haven't left any for him!

all this talk of lollies makes me NEED a lemonade sparkle or three......

Aussiemama · 03/07/2006 16:46

Hello all,

I thanked god for this site this morning when I couldn't get my (38 E) bra on this morning... Having read that everyone else is also expanding around the ribcage meant that I was able to laugh rather than cry...and just grab another one!

My work have installed an air conditioning unit in my classroom but it doesn't seem to be doing much conditioning yet. I keep catching the kids standing in front of it and I'm like "Oi! Who's pregnant here? Move!"

preparingfor2: You're spot on when you say I never thought I'd be having children here. When I first came over I was all "Who would have children in this dirty horrible city?" Now I'm addicted to London and I can't remember why I didn't think it would be good for kids. It's taking me a while to get used to the idea that my baby will be English though. At least your partners Aussie so your two will be pretty much Australian!

sarahlou1uk · 03/07/2006 17:51

Talking of big boobs - I have just spent the good part of 2 hours searching online for a black soft cup bra in size 42G that I need for a wedding in 2 weeks time. Could I find one? - yes, if I wanted to fork out £39 plus £5 p&p! . Can't wear underwired one and don't feel ready to wear nursing one yet but may have to! All the others tend to be white or skin tone. Think I might stay at home instead!
