Orange can you add me to the date list too please?

July 22nd

Thanks Smile

efme - I think holding it together at work is only ok because my symptoms aren't too bad, a bit of nausea, feeling a bit emotional and the odd abdominal pain or actually a weird bubbling feeling is the most common. So mostly I can just ignore them during the day, and the emotions get channeled into rage directed at anyone who does the wrong thing so it gets me through. If I was actually being sick and feeling tired all the time it would be a different story!

Oh and coffee, I still rely on a tall filter coffee to get me through the mornings... Definitely could not survive without it.

BoyMeetsWorld · 02/12/2012 08:10

Wow orange £50 does sound really reasonable. I'm bucks & the cheapest iv found is £75 but it's baby scan ultra (or something similar) & iv read some rubbish reviews...

SlouchingPanda · 02/12/2012 08:36

Yowzers. I look away for a few days and there's a whole new thread! Moving fast, ladies (and paolo!!). Super exciting to see our first (and only?) July twins - good luck to you! I made the sonographer double check, but definitely only one junior panda in there!

I am 8+3 today, and like OhGood I have the double whammy of morning sickness and a full on cold. All I seem to want to eat are carbs (this lasagne talk is agony! I need some!), doughy bread and sweet things. Lunch on Friday was some roast chicken crisps, a Belgian bun and a can of coke... I don't think this can continue or I'll be massive, spotty, and get scurvy.

I have a question about stretch marks for those who have been through this before [first timer emoticon]. Despite being a size 10, I got terrible stretch marks in puberty when my bottom and thighs gave j-lo a run for her money assumed their womanly contours. Does this mean I am genetically doomed to get them? Is bio-oil (or anything else) worth a go? A stretch mark free woman with twins told me it had worked for her, but I can't help but feel she was blessed with youth and naturally elastic skin Envy. I suspect that I have neither of these Sad.

Sorry for massive post. I am too cold/sick/lazy to get out of bed, so passing the time here...

MightBeMad · 02/12/2012 08:44

Morning all. I am still trying to exercise too but I had a bit of bleeding yesterday and symptoms are very minimal so I'm feeling a bit cautious now. Bled off and on all through my last pg until 24 weeks so could be fine but I've also had an early mc in the past so could go either way Sad

On the scan front I've booked mine for fri at the Fetal Medicine Centre London. They are brilliant and all profits go into researching fetal medicine so it feels worthwhile spending the money in two counts. Scan is £100.

Tashtastic · 02/12/2012 09:44

I don't think there is much you can do to avoid stretch mark panda Some people are prone to them some aren't! Some people swear by bio oil. I started using it after the stretch marks appeared (very late in my pregnancy) and it didn't make much difference. You are meant to use it from the start of your pregnancy so maybe that's it didn't work for me!

I guess the answer is that you haven't got anything to lose so you might as well give it a go!

emblosion · 02/12/2012 10:00

Hello New thread! Xmas Smile

panda sadly with stretch marks I think if you're going to get them you get them - last time I slathered myself in bio oil and cocoa butter to no avail! Didn't get any til I was over 30 weeks then they just started sneakily appearing, Grrr.

Congrats and welcome to the newbies - v exciting about the twins!

We've decided against an early scan, just cos of the cost so close to Christmas (plus my scan is on the 27th so not long to wait really) we'll prob get a gender scan later on if all is well though, as they won't tell you at the 20 week scan round here.....

Solidarity to those with carb cravings - I need lasagne now! Yesterday I ate 2 custard donuts, one after the other, before dinner (i'm so ashamed! Xmas Blush

Have a good Sunday all x

emblosion · 02/12/2012 10:02

Ps. Not many symptoms here - tiredness & mild nausea. Can't help but fret a bit, even though I was just the same with DS.

dinkystinky · 02/12/2012 10:10

Panda - i used oil - from below boobs to hips through out pregnancy with DS1 and only got stretchmarks when Ds1went two weeks overdue. I used Mamma Mio oil and Clarins oil. Did the same with Ds2. Chocolateteabag - I've told all my instructors from as soon as I've known as otherwise can void their insurance. My old zumba instructor is 35 weeks with no2 and still teaching each week so you should be ok for a while if all stays straightforward and you've been doing it for a while.

esme80 · 02/12/2012 10:11

Hi everyone! Ths thread is moving fast, cant keep up! I usually do a lot of exercise, but with the morning sickness I cant bring myself to do it. Will have to wait till I start feeling better. Am 9+3 now, really hope it gets better by christmas or its going to be a bit miserable...
panda I used a stretch mark cream throughout pg w ds and didnt get stretcharks, but might not have gotten them anyway no way to know! I got v dry skin on my belly though, so still worth using I thought.

SlouchingPanda · 02/12/2012 10:31

Thanks for the tips everyone. I think I might as well give it a go as it can't harm, might work and will be a nice excuse to rub my belly! Bio-oil must make a killing from hopeful pregnant ladies...

I was very lucky: I had an early scan as I was under the fertility team, although it was a natural conception. Not sure I'd have shelled out for a private one, but the wait must be agony...

Emblosion, my dating scan is on the 27th too. I begged for it to be before Christmas but they only do it here in your 12th week. I'm 12+0 that day.

Also, custard doughnuts? Two back to back? My idea of heaven (pregnant or otherwise) Envy Grin.

Morning all,

Chocolate I told my spinning instructor straight away and she went through some things with me for safety. I would say now.

boo i second hotmilk, once I'd done the bravisimo thing and lost the will to live I treated myself, so delicious and very very sexy.

Glad to see there's a lot of us exercising. wha hoo! I gained 4 stone with DD that IS NOT going to happen again! In losing most of that weight I have actually become fitter than I have been in years. Ran for years but now do lots of varied stuff.

thunder good luck with the scan today x

mightbe & emblosion I woke up in shit humour this morning as I felt symptoms had all but vanished. This happened a few days ago though and then they all came back! It's such a mind fuck! Gentle, if any exercise though if you're bleeding mightbe.

Panda I didn't use anything at all and not a stretch mark in sight, much to the annoyance of a lot of my friends. Sadly I just think it's going to happen or it's not!

Did someone mention bacon sarnies...

marimama · 02/12/2012 13:04

orange i gained a scary amount of weight with DS and i am determined to avoid it this time! I had just gotten down to my lowest weight since university and into happy skinny jeans. But between work, DS & master's degree classes is kind of hard to find time to exercise, but the though of ballooning again might have me on the treadmill at 4:30 am after all!! I've already put on 3-4 lbs but i sm hoping it's water/puffiness. :(

panda i used a belly cream during my pregnancy and didn't get a single stretch mark--until 39 weeks!! DS born at 41+3 so maybe if he came on time i'd have been ok! :) that said, the marks have blended in well enough now & i don't mind as much as i thought i would.

Thundercatz · 02/12/2012 13:37

Hi everyone, hope everyone isn't having a happy Sunday (despite all the symptoms!) !!?
It's freezing but sunny here so that helps perk up the mood...

Thanks for the in laws tips - I agree expectations must be managed early but I fear the management will not go down well despite how early it is done.. Sad but hopefully it will help..

Thanks orange! Am nervous but excited re scan - will report back!

Have horrible nausea today and that feeling like I can't properly digest anything! Am usually a healthy but for the last month I've only wanted junk! Angry annoying! Also zero appetite for exercise due to exhaustion, though am going to get back into yoga this week - so i have much respect to all those who are staying active despite feeling rubbish (especially in the cold!) keep it up!

Thundercatz · 02/12/2012 13:40

panda my 12 week scan is on 27th too. I begged for 24th as that's the first day I would be advanced enough, but they don't do the blood test on xmas eve for the downs test so they wouldn't let me book on that day.
I'm so impatient it's crazy - I can't wait to enter the safe zone and tell people!

OhGood · 02/12/2012 13:42

Exercisers - I talked to my midwife about starting swimming again (have swum regularly all my life, but not for the last 6 months) and she said wait until you're 12 weeks to start. A but Hmm about it but you know what it's bloody like, as soon as someone says something like that to you, you are consumed with worry if you do it differently. Anyway, tbh I am so ill and so knackered that I am happy just to try and walk every day for the next while. And have lost 4kgs cos of morning sickness. But it's not what I weigh that worries me, it's more about being fitter and stronger, you know? Anyway I am 12 weeks in 3 weeks, so...

Thundercatz · 02/12/2012 13:48

ohgood the advice I've heard is that you shouldn't start a new form of exercise/regime when pregnant but that it recommended to keep up with exercise you did before, obviously using common sense to ensure you're not overdoing it... So midwife was probably being cautious as you haven't done for the last 12 months..
It sounds like taking it easier for now esp as you are losing weight from sickness is the right thing - I say listen your body... Mine is saying do not get off the sofa unless absol necessary Grin

Thundercatz · 02/12/2012 13:49

Sorry meant the last 6 months!

Cutandstick · 02/12/2012 14:30

panda also stretch mark prone in puberty, I'm using moisturizer (when I remember) on every part that might change shape.

Having said that, has anyone else lost weight? I had lost 5lbs since we had found out (not what I usually do and I hadn't been sick) and then had a horrendous 12 hours of vomiting yesterday - not even holding down water, so have lost more weight. It would be more reassuring if I wasn't. Crazily before the bug I had had to get some maternity trousers from next because of such bloating by the end of the day, and had gone up 2 bra sizes. I have no idea where the weight has gone from.
Slightly concerned as I am half way through antibiotics for a crappy chest infection, vomiting craziness and today have a streaming cold. Any advice?
Sorry for the self pitying moaning!

Guavasforbreakfast · 02/12/2012 14:37

I've lost about 5lbs in the last couple weeks too Cut, got some anti-emetics when I went to see the mw on Friday and it's slowly coming back. She said not to worry, baby takes what it needs from stores already there.

On a different note, how long after mw referred you all to hospital did you hear back about booking appt/scan? Am impatient!

dinkystinky · 02/12/2012 15:04

If you're losing weight OhGood and feeling sick/weak, definitely not the time to exercise. Starting again when you hit the second trimester, lose the sickness and hopefully have a new spurt of energy would be good though if you want to. And the only reason I exercise lots is because I have a super stressful job and its my way of managing stress and getting rid of some. I put on 3 and a half stone with DS1 and 3 stone with DS2 - and exercised loads through both pregnancies - so am not seeing it as a weight maintenance thing (though as am a stone heavier already due to injuring my knee at the start of the year trying to gain less than 3 stone can only be a good thing!) but more for general health. Thundercatz - be careful with yoga: they recommend you dont do iyengar at all till 14 weeks (have been sneaking into a pregnancy yoga friendly class with a teacher who is a friend and knows I'm pregnant and is ok with me being there). Not sure which type you practice but worth checking with your instructor.

Cutandstick - sorry you're feeling so crap. Early pregnancy takes people in different ways - some lose weight then stack it on, some put on weight then plateau.

We had friends staying this weekend and got rumbled immediately as am normally well and truly on the booze with them.

Will add myself to the list after my scan on 13 Dec when I know when I'm sort of due.

Thinkingof4 · 02/12/2012 15:21

cutandstick and guavas sympathies sounds like you are having a really rough time. Hope you feel better soon
I'm pretty sure I'm gaining weight but haven't stepped on the scales for a couple of weeks.
Funnily enough after posting about feeling a but better yesterday I had to run upstairs retching all the way till I got the the bathroom! Then it settled and I still haven't been sick. Tis very strange but I'm not complaining.
My scan was a cheapie at only £50 done by a not for profit company who also give big discounts for anyone in armed forces (we are not though) but it was in Perth which is probably a bit far for most of you to travel!

McKTastic · 02/12/2012 15:30

Thinkingof4 that's where we're going for our scan too! Booked for a few weeks time. Went there with DD. Was reassuring after our first pregnancy loss - fingers crossed this time.

Cutandstick · 02/12/2012 15:33

Hi Guava I got my 12 week scan date through quite quick after seeing the doc at 5 weeks, but then didn't hear from my midwife until end of week 8, saw a midwife (not mine but she was very nice) yesterday for booking in (10 weeks).
Also a teacher too... dreading going back to work tomorrow after being off sick. There's been shingles, whooping cough, vomiting and chickenpox in my class already. Its germ central. Angry
