Sun finally out here too.... MUST do housework though Blush

calsworld · 05/05/2006 11:16

I know most of us are going through the ms / sore boobs / constipation thing - but no-one has mentioned (ALERT - TMI COMING UP) excrutiatingly painful nipples. They feel like someone is burning them with a red hot poker - What is this all about - can anyone help - any remedies??? Beginning to get quite desperate!!

saralou100 · 05/05/2006 12:36

i too have sore nipples, and yesterday ds grabbed hold, tears lept from my eyes and ds got a bit of a telling off, poor sod doesn't know what he did!! i don't think theirs any cure but it does get better for a while (this is nothing compared to the pain of breast feeding) how crap about your dates calsworld, can i ask, do you have a regular 28 day cycle? i have a long cycle of 36 days which alters your dates by over a week!!

calsworld · 05/05/2006 13:31

Oh...don't say that about bf, I really want to be able to bf but this pain has me in tears...

Re cycle, its normally spot on 28 days. Can I be really boring and ask for some help...I must be misunderstanding something...

The first day of my last period was 16/02. On the 20/02 we flew to Gran Canaria for a weeks diving holiday - get it done before TTC. Dived 2 per day (fabulous BTW) until Sat 25th. After last dive, returned to hotel and celebrated...IYKWIM. Continued celebrating for a week....then parents came to visit so eased off...by this point I though I was pregnant.

My AF due date was 16/03 and tested on 17th - bit keen but was sure had fallen pregnant - came back negative, waited till Monday 20th (day before my 30th B-Day) and got positive with a clear blue digital test.

Now, my understanding was that these tests only worked after the first day that AF should have arrived - which means the most I could be out by is 4 days.

So how the hell am I only ten weeks pregnant....I know it doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things, and I am very pleased that all is well etc....but I have been messed around by my doctors with anti-depressants and am worried that I'm not ten weeks, but 11 but have stunted LO's growth...I'm not even sure if that's possible...

Am I just doing all the dates wrong?

HopingCat · 05/05/2006 13:42

To be honest I think that the scans can't be all that accurate. We know our own bodies better than anyone. My scan told me my baby was a week older than I thought, which is impossible because you cannot conceive a week before you ovulate! I get the impression that everybody's babies just grow at different rates, and it's only after 12 weeks that a scan gives a reasonably close guess on due date. I imagine that if you have another scan later on you may find the baby's size is much closer to your dates than the hospital's original date. I definitely would not worry if you've seen your lo and know they are fine.

And on the subject of nipples, I don't have any cure but I am suffering from this too, thankfully only occasionally not all the time.

twocatsonthebed · 05/05/2006 13:44

calsworld - I wouldn't worry too much, as the chances are you did conceive later on, rather than doing anything to damage the baby's growth.

Two things that make a difference - one is that even if you have a 28 day cycle, you don't necessarily ov on day 14. People vary a lot with this, and you can't tell.

The other is that messing up your routine can delay ovulation - and a holiday is a classic way to do that. So you could have conceived a few days after your holiday ended, even.

I started to find out about this because was having problems conceiving, and got into temperature charting to find out when I was ov'ing (your temp goes up when you do). I wouldn't be pregnant now if I hadn't, as that cycle I ovulated almost a week late, did the relevant deed, and hey presto!

If you're worried, do go and see your midwife, but I bet you anything that you weren't ovulating when you thought you were.

And poor you with the bust of pain - mine's sensitive, but nothing like that. Perhaps start a thread on the pregnancy page and see if anyone has some advice...

calsworld · 05/05/2006 13:51

Thanks guys, I didn't figure about the variations in ovulation dates....I think it must be that! I hadn't really done much reading about TTC and don't really know about the science behind it all because I got pregnant before I got to the resources!!

The only bit I do know for sure is that I've been incredibly lucky (although DH thinks its all down to him!Shock. And I think I'm even more lucky because I have endometriosis and Gynae recommended I have kids two years ago.

Will stop fussing and count my blessings...and start a thread about my nipples!! Grin

saralou100 · 05/05/2006 13:54

bf pain is a totally hideous pain but totally different in a wonderful way, i will be bf'ing again!

don't panic too much about them changing your dates, it's crap because you have an extra week until the feeling 'safe' bit, but their are so many factors that could have caused your dates to change it's not worth focussing upon... what is worth focussing upon is that bubs is ok and happy in there!! so it was happy news!! :o:o

Tinasan · 05/05/2006 14:04

Calsword - my due date was put forward by 4-5 days by all 3 of my scans. Like you I was a bit puzzled as it means I ovulated on about day 10 or 11 on a fairly regular 28 day cycle. I asked the doctor who scanned me at the clinic where I had my nuchal scan, and he assured me that the scan date is more accurate than the LMP date, and contrary to what most people think, most people don't ovulate 14 days before their period starts, just like TwoCats said. He also said that early scans (up to about 13 weeks) are more accurate than later ones (to within 3 days), as every baby grows at the same rate up until the end of the first trimester. Can you work out if you were 'trying' about 8 weeks ago to see if that fits in with your dates? I'd also reckon that since you had to wait a few days to get your BFP, that you ovulated a bit later than you thought.

HTH - you can tell I investigated the subject once they'd moved my date!

mygirllolipop · 05/05/2006 16:30

Fatbetty- know what you mean about the scan. Was supposed to have mine yesterday and had childminder arranged etc then last week they send a letter saying it was today instead. So had scan all was fine. Baby sucking thumb and holding hands together! With DD1 they put my dates back about 10 or 11 days with a v reagular 28 day cycle and a v strong BFP on CD37. But with the others they've been spot on. With this one they've said I'm due on 12th at my dating scan and 11th at today's 12wk scan, which is only 2 days before I think I'm due.
Hope all are well.

LadyAnne1stTimeMum · 05/05/2006 20:18

Hi all,

Gorgeous day in Devon. Re; not sure of size - it possible I've got a big baby due (DP family all large) but I'm only supposed to be 10 weeks and I'm definitely larger than the books say. No scan due for ages. By the way - can't recall if I said so - but had to tell work colleagues this week as my MS was so bad it was either tell them or have them think I had some terrible illness! They are currently planning a knitting competition... and to take bets on what my cravings may be. Head of HR says to wait until after next MW visit to start on the legal stuff. Anyhow that's my news for now... hope everyone else has a good evening.

saralou100 · 05/05/2006 20:37

i think it's been a gorgeous day eveywhere today, hope it's the same again tomorrow so we can take ds to the beach!!! of course all depending on my ms/narcolepsy - just when you think it's getting better something happens to ruin it, just wanted to sleep today aand now ds is in bed and i have the opportunity to i can't!!!

nataliejane appears to have dropped of the face of the earth - i hope everythings ok? thinking of ya x

velcrobott · 05/05/2006 20:39

I know I ovulated 7 days after LMP.... Sadly I know exactly when this baby was concieved.... don't have sex often enough to be confused LOL
I also know I ovulated on that day - tha's why we had sex Wink I did think 7 days was too short but it clearly worked !

Delia · 05/05/2006 20:47

good news delia!!! sounds like theres a happy little bubba wriggling round:o

LadyAnne1stTimeMum · 06/05/2006 08:34

Delia - I know what you mean about sore boobs. I still haven't plucked up the courage to try the remedy suggested by the two mums I know (Savoy cabbage leaves) despite DP taking great delight in buying one and refridgerating it for me. Funny how knowing that a possible (if unpleasant sounding) solution is near makes me decide its not so bad...Wink

mygirllolipop · 06/05/2006 09:05

The cabbage stuff works but I've only used that remedy after the birth when the milk comes in, to alievate the soreness then.

Delia · 06/05/2006 11:15

Morning girls

I will have to go out at lunch time and get myself some cabbage, had not heard that one but am willing to try everything and anything!

Hope all the other scans that were yesterday went well, i can't take my eye's of the photo its so amazing.

saralou100 · 06/05/2006 11:34

i've heard of the cabbage leaf thing, but only for bf and mastitis pain, if it works let us know, don't know if i'm keen on the idea of it though!!

NatalieJane · 06/05/2006 18:49

Hi Everyone

Haven't had a proper chance to catch up, but hope everyone is still doing well :)

I have had problems with our phone line all week so haven't been able to get on, but I had my booking in on Tuesday, pretty straight forward, M/W booked my scan for 31st May, I am slightly expecting them to put me a month ahead, but am prepared for them not doing!!

Hope everyonre enjoys the rest of the weekend :) TC xxx

mygirllolipop · 07/05/2006 09:11

Hi NJ everyone's been worrying about you. Why do you think they'll put you a month ahead? Are you ounsure of dates?

NatalieJane · 07/05/2006 09:37

Sorry everyone, didn't mean for anyone to worry! Blush

I am sure my last period was the 18th Feb but it was very light and short (unlike me), that would put me at 11 weeks, but I am the size of a house, I can feel the baby moving, my hands and feet have started swelling up of an evening, my boobs ae leaking, my symptoms are all in line with being a month further on, like I said though I am prepared to be told otherwise!!

The only thing I am not sure about is, that if I am 4 weeks ahead, by the time I go for my scan I would be 18 weeks - too late for the triple test, do I ring my midwife and make a fuss, and run the risk of looking very stupid if I am still only 11 weeks, or is it big enough of a concern to get it sorted?? DH says to ring her, but everyone else is 100% sure I am ahead of my dates, I am still in the 'maybe' camp! Hope that makes sense?!

sighkotika · 07/05/2006 12:48

um... hello, looks like you are getting another newbie lol. the midwife has told me i am due on the 11th of november, but as i am very vague on the date of my last period (they have never EVER been regular and i have a really bad memory) it is only a rough guess. i have my first scan this thursday, so hopefully this will give me a definate date.

also, rather irrationally, i am scared that i'm imagining being pregnant, and the scan will show that its all fake. i know i am, but there is just this weird little doubt in the back of my mind. is this normal?

oh, and this is my first child too.

fatbetty · 07/05/2006 15:55

For those of you with sore boobs, after I had ds1 a friend bought me ice packs that you can put into your bra - for when I was bf. I had a sleep bra found that they helped. Imagine that it would ease some of your pain now. Also think a sleep bra would help at nights. Haven't had breast pain yet (knock on wood).

sighkotika, i'm pg with no. 3 and still think that i'm imaging being pg. I'm already showing but sometimes I think that when I go in for my first scan (on Thursday too!!) they'll be nothing there. But once you see your little baby there, moving about, everything falls into place!
