totally floaty and sunshine,i'm having back ache too but it's not surprising as i had a disc prolapse 2 years ago and surgery. as the bumps are starting to get bigger now and we're all having to stretch it is the time for backs to start hurting a bit. mine is much better since seeing my osteopath. i am biased, being an osteopath myself, but i would reccomend you find yourself a good one now.
good luck tomorrow skytv. hope telling your boss went ok majormoo.
what does anyone think of barney-would the poor child be forever associated with childrens tv character?

Poppyshed · 06/04/2006 19:44

Hey Ladies, I sympathise with the backache. I've had a bit of that too, and also thought it was cause I keep walking about with dd in my arms. We're trying not to think about names until after the scan, and that could be a few weeks away. By the way, the stats thread is good fun, I've really enjoyed reading everyone's intros. Take care.

Gingeme · 07/04/2006 08:58

Good morning ladies. Tought I was being smug yesterday and said I wasnt getting backache well its come with revenge today! My back is realy quite sore today. Lower back. Guess its all the ligaments starting to stretch to acomodate the little beings inside usSmileTo top it all I woke up in a puddle of blood today all over my pillow. Id had quite a large nose bleed in the night. Washed my face in the bathroom. I looked like someone had punched me in the nose!!

nowanearlyNicemum · 07/04/2006 10:03

you're having such bad luck totallyfloaty - I'd be going barmy too.
what a bloody mess the system must be in if you've had to wait so long and have so many cancellations.
fingers crossed she'll be there soon ...

Gemmitygem · 07/04/2006 10:52

Funny, Martha, Barnaby's one of my top ones, too. Inevitably he'd end up being Barny for short.

hope mw turns up totallyfloaty!

Sorry you have a bad back gingeme; hope you can take it easy. I feel a few funny twinges and had to stop doing the lunges in the cindy crawford workout as pelvis felt funny.

Think I'm feeling some kind of movement, not fluttering or anything, just a little weight which shifts, (but prob imagining it), I'm 13 w today. For veteran mums, when did you first feel something?

MrsBlobby · 07/04/2006 12:08

I'm sure I can feel something too! I thought I felt it a couple of weeks ago, but I went to a concert last night and I definitely felt it move! It's like nothing on earth!!!

I'm also 13 weeks today. And I have my scan later on! Will be very glad when today's over with!

On another note, I've found some great websites that cover how to avoid tearing / episiotomies.

In summary:
BEFOREHAND

  • nutrition: to make sure perineum is elastic, make sure get adequat amounts of protein, vit E, omega 3 and 6 fatty acids, vit C and bioflavanoids (eg. citrus fruits, grapes, green tea)
  • pelvic floor exercises
  • perineal massage (can get DH/DP to do that one!) with oils

DURING LABOUR

  • have water birth (results in very few tears)
  • squatting
  • keep upright
  • good breathing / relax, don't tense
  • key: avoid unnecessary pushing. need to start at correct time and stop once the perineum is being stretched. Then apparantly, you can actually bresathe the baby out!!!

This is all very new to me - sorry if you've heard all this before!!!

Have lovely weekends everybody!

Gemmitygem · 07/04/2006 12:36

great tips mrsblobby!

I'm in such a tizzy over the birth that any advice helps.

I've heard that basically nearly everyone tears first time round, though of course you can do things to help.

However, think the ideal would be mobile epidural PLUS the water. I'm sure they'll have that in 10 years... I mean, can't they just do a waterproof plaster or two over the tube?

Good to know I'm not the only one feeling something.. It's not really big movement, but I can feel it there... I think there's about 5 of us 13 wks today! hurrah!

SKYTVADICT · 07/04/2006 13:17

Hi all, well that will be us bowing out.

Bad news at scan which told us baby had died at 9 weeks 4 days (how precise is that!). Absolutely gutted and dreading telling the DDs later more than anything in the world. Sad

Good luck to all of you. Will keep reading your thread to keep up to date. x

Justers · 07/04/2006 13:18

I'm 13 weeks today as well. I thought i felt something last night but then realised it was indigestion-probably the chips and chesse!

Justers · 07/04/2006 13:21

Really sorry to hear that please take care of yourself. x

hana · 07/04/2006 13:39

marthahm · 07/04/2006 17:00

jmcmugwump · 07/04/2006 20:09

Hi folks, another newbie here!

Firstly sky TV really sorry to hear your news.

I'm 13 weeks today with my first and have already had my dating scan, although MW has yet to book me in. I think I will have to have words with her when I do finally see her on Tuesday - had a nightmare yesterday when DH decided that he did want nuchal scan done - doctor had said I was low risk so I wasn't too bothered and that I could discuss it with the midwife, but she has taken so long to get her act into gear I spent an hour on Thursday trying to find somewhere that had a space before the 13w + 6 was up, finally found one then the MW called to see if she could help, I hope she is a bit more on the ball when I have the baby! :o
I have also been having back ache although I did have it before I hoped all the softening ligament business would ease it a bit, hopefully I will manage to get teh MW to sort out an obstetric osteopath or something. The back ache is now stopping me from sleeping and the lack of sleep in giving me headaches and all this before I can even feel the baby kick!

Oh well :) I suppose I had better get used to it!

Has everyone else seen their MW yet?

totallyfloaty35 · 07/04/2006 20:17

SKY,i cant believe it,i thought we were not going to get any more losses,im seding you a cyber hug, take care of yourself.
mw finally turned up just before noon, told me that when im 36wks they will let me know if i can have a home birthShock talk about short notice.
I been feeling baby for about a wk now, wierd little bubble movements.
Welcome newbie, nice to have you aboard

So very sorry, SKYTVADICT. What a terrible shock that must have been.

majormoo · 08/04/2006 13:08

SkyTV really sorry to hear that. Take care of yourself. Sometimes life feels so unfair.

welcome jmcmugwump.

i keep wondering if I am feeling something but surely it is too early. Felt DD at 17 weeks.

martha we had talked about Barney as well but not sure because of that purple monster thing.

Gingeme · 08/04/2006 15:28

Yeah I keep thinking I can feel something. Felt ds3 about 15 weeks. Im only 11+3 now so not sure. Oh I felt so stupid this morning. I was meant to go for my booking in appt 10 oclock stood outside the clinic just around the corner from me. Got there about 5 to 10. Waited, and waited, and waited. 10.15 my mobile rang'Where are you?'. It was my midwife. I was meant to be at the hospital not the clinic!! Doh....Going to try again at 11 on Monday AT THE HOSPITAL.
