No totaly it was in my local hospital.Dont think I could do a homebirth as I live in flats and my neighbours would probably be knocking on my door to see what was going on. I had my first 2 in hospital. They are now 10 and nearly 12. My third boy I had in water and it realy was excelent. Im expecting again in October(haloween to be exat) and hope I can do this one in the pool too. The only thing I didnt like is I had to deliver the placenta out of the water in like a little half chair with a bucket underneath while trying to feed the baby. Was very awkward and seeing as the placenta didnt deliver till about 40 mins after they put me on a bed anyway. This time Ill see if I can do it all in the water.

Gingeme · 27/03/2006 18:05

Ive got that babycentre site in my favourites. Its briliant. Just about everything you need to know from food to feotal development.

totallyfloaty35 · 27/03/2006 18:43

im looking at having an independant midwife,i fancy a home/water birth.but im such a wuss when it comes to pain and you cant get epidurals at home

OP posts:
totallyfloaty35 · 27/03/2006 18:48

how old is your 3rd,my dds are 11 and8 yrs

OP posts:
Gingeme · 27/03/2006 19:39

What is dds? My third boy will be 2 on 13th April. Dont get me started on epidurals. I hate the very idea. Same as C sections. I think they should only be done if there is no other way to deliver baby. My anti natal care is midwife led. I dont see a doctor unless something goes wrong. What is a holistic therapist?

totallyfloaty35 · 27/03/2006 19:50

dd is darling daughter, holistic therapist means i do massage, aromatherapy, hot stone massage, reflexology etc.
My epidural was necessary in my first labour as i had placental abruption an needed a c-section.didnt work though so needed a general, had forceps during my 2nd,so more epidural as baby got stuck.i think everyone should get the birth they want,if they want a c-section then let them, but it should be explained that its not an easy option, its major surgery and takes ages to heal, cant see their attraction myself, mine was awful and i was in agony afterwards

Hi all

Love the small new thread!

Hi to Sky (snap - I'm 38 and expecting no 3 - will be 39 by then though).

And Hi to Gingme - wow, number 4!. I have two boys already but since I was convinced that ds2 was a girl I'm not saying what I do or don't want this one to be! I think I wanted a girl last time but lacked the feminine intuition...

Good luck for scan tomorrow Hana.

Congrats on scan 3kids. I still have 10 days to go for my first scan and I'm soooo impatient - and nervous.

Gingeme · 27/03/2006 22:19

Oh poor you totally. My friend had a c section with her twins just after I had my 2 year old and she winces in pain from her scar every now and then. Youve definately got to try for a water birth this time then. I realy hope you can. Itll be so different to your other births. I tried acupuncture before I fell pregnant this time cause I had the depo injection and hadnt had periods for about a year. Finnished acupuncture last October fell pregnant in January! Worked for me :)

Gingeme · 27/03/2006 22:22

Hi jamiesam. lucky you having one of each. Some people have all the luck! Im 35 and having baby number 4 no more after this though even if it is another boy. My husband has 2 boys from his previous marriage adn I have 2 from mine and we have a boy together so it stands to reason this one is gonna be a girl. Doesnt it? :(

jamiesam · 27/03/2006 22:36

Hi Gingeme - sorry, I never write very clearly - I though ds2 was a girl when I was pg. But he was a boy, just like ds1! I have no feminine intuition whatsoever. Your family grows by the minute! It must be quite something in your house when you're all together.

Michaelangelo · 28/03/2006 08:45

Hi all have been lurking for a while but feeling a little more relaxed about this pregnancy now so decided to join. I am 38 with a DS 3 1/2. I had an early scan at 8 1/2 weeks as had 2 miscarriages last year and just had Nuchal scan yesterday which was very reassuring so now approx 12 1/2 weeks due sometime between 1st and 6th Oct depending on whose dates I go with. Have been feeling v tired and scik mainly in the afternoon evening but starting to get a bit better now thank goodness so maybe I will be able to stop eating every 10 minutes now adn so not end up the size of a small elephant!

booge · 28/03/2006 08:47

Hi Everyone,
Still trotting along nicely, I have to wait for 20 weeks for my first scan down here so no news for a bit. I might ask my midwife to listen to the heartbeat at my next appointment after Easter for some reassurance though. Sickness is getting better every day thank goodness, I am 13 +2 so hopefully by next week when the placenta takes over it should be gone!!!

I'm hoping for a homebirth and another boy this time. I really don't mind boy or girl but I think boys are lovely, so mellow in comparrison and good at entertaining themselves, also so cuddley :) I was hoping for a homebirth with DS but my waters broke and then labour didn't start so instead of my lovely planned homebirth I ended up having a Oxy drip, being strapped to a monitor and not even able to walk around much less have an active or water birth. So fingers crossed this time it is at home, my midwife is keen and I've been checking out the pools, "birthpool in a box" looks good and not too expensive if I do end up in hospital again, also it can double up as a pool for the kids later!!

nowanearlyNicemum · 28/03/2006 08:58

hi all,
I was hoping for a waterbirth too but I read somewhere (yes, I know you shouldn't believe everything you read!) that it's not possible after a c-section. anyone have any experience on this?
3kids - great news about your scan by the way :)

jamiesam · 28/03/2006 09:18

Hi Michaelangelo, welcome and congratulations. (Another 38 yr old - this is clearly the age to be!)

Booge - I didn't know that about the placenta taking over hormone production leading to less nausea etc symptoms.

Nowanearlynicemum - I think waterbirth was an option with ds2 after c/s with ds1 - our hospital has had donated a couple of waterproof monitors so that continual monitoring of baby can still be done. Definitely worth asking about and pressing if you're keen (I'm too cautious and just wanted to concentrate on vbac on land, without added complication of water! On the other hand it might have lessened the size/length of my tear, I think there's anecdotal evidence that waterbirth results in reduced tearing?)

SKYTVADICT · 28/03/2006 09:43

Hi everyone.

Nearly a week since I was actually sick now but still feeling nauseous occasionally and very tired. Got DD1 off sick with a badly cricked neck so using it as an excuse to sit and watch tv with her to keep her company and also used it as an excuse to do the shopping on Tesco.com yesterday which is the first time in years so looking forward to receiving it later. Think she has probably seen a few too many births on TV to date (she is 9) but I haven't actually mentioned home birth and the DDs being present yet! Not sure if I fancy it, lots of time to plan yet though. I am going to wait and see that all goes well. At the moment going down the route of midwife led so hopeflly won't have to see a consultant at all. DD2 was born at local midwife led unit and that was ok. DP not so keen, think he wants the hospital and all that it entails as it is his first so I'll just have to keep working on him.

Gingeme · 28/03/2006 10:13

Good morning ladies.Lucky you skytvaddict. I feel so sick every morning. If my sleep is disturbed as it was by my ds at 3am I feel sick from then on :( Cant wait for the bit where your meant to feel'blooming'and energised! My last ds was miswife led. Though I saw 6 midwifes in all the one that delivered him was realy lovely. Having the same team this time too.Got my 2ds off school today cause of industrial action so they can keep my 2 year old entertained in case I need to rush to the bathroom.

Gingeme · 28/03/2006 10:16

jamiesam please can you help me? I keep hearing about special tests you have when your over 35. Ill be 36 when this baby is born so will I be having anything different from the usual scans and urine tests. blood tests etc?

totallyfloaty35 · 28/03/2006 10:38

Gingeme,im 35 to,will be 36 when baby is due,i have to have a nuchal scan and blood test to check for downs as its more commen the older you are

OP posts:
Gemmitygem · 28/03/2006 10:47

welcome skytvaddict (I'm due 1 day before you), and gingeme: hoping you'll be able to give us loads of advice seeing as it's your 4th!

Well all is fine here in sunny Kazakhstan (well, only just got sunny this week).

11 wks 4 days today. Can't wait for the magic 12! Going back to the UK and will try and have a scan, will be 15 weeks by then. Too late for nuchal but don't want to have it anyway. At least I'll be able to get some decent mat.clothes. Here they are a bit back in the 80s, with people trying to wear tent-like dresses and dungarees to hide the bump.

Anyone else feeling less tired as 12 weeks hits? But a real bump by the evenings (1st baby too)! 2 friends have asked if I'm preg, but lied for now. Usually skinny, and it's really obvious..

Can't wait till we all have a proper bump!

Michaelangelo · 28/03/2006 11:03

Gingeme, only additional test i have had being 38 is that we opted to have a nuchal scan to test for Downs as the triple test is a bit uselss when you are older as age will auto give you a high risk (at 38 its 1 in 90 chance)but this is optional and where we are you have to have it done privately

marthahm · 28/03/2006 12:49

hi all
i read your messages feeling deeply jealous as was feeling worse than ever, almost feinted in the kitchen trying to cook, then threw up and then had to lie down, too incapacitated even to watch ER-gutted. anyway, so far today i am feeling fab, no sickness and more energy-i'm crossing every finger and toe that this will continue. you never know at 11weeks 4 days maybe this is the end of the morning noon and night sickness.

booge · 28/03/2006 13:07

Gingeme, I'll be 36 when baby is born too, There is a triple test available on the NHS but it is not very accurate, there is a test available at BUPA hospitals called the OSCAR which includes the nuchal scan and blood tests but we have to pay for it here (near Bristol), its £180.00. I think some other tests also look for the presence of a nasal bone for even more accuracy. All of these tests only give you the risk for a definite result you have to have a CVS or Amniocentesis but as these carry around a 1/200 risk of miscarriage at least having the screening first lets you only go ahead with these if you are high risk.

totallyfloaty35 · 28/03/2006 13:27

Hi all,im having my scan at Fetal Medicine Centre in Harley st.Its £150 and they do bloods and check nuchal, heart valve and nasal bone.Im utterly terrified, keep thinking what if theres no baby or they tell me somethings wrong,i will fall to pieces.
Having a rubbish day today, found out that appeal to get my eldest into secondary school that all her friends are going to has failed,so keep bursting into tears, probably woldnt react like this usually but pg hormones making me crazy, plus being upset is making me throw up big style

majormoo · 28/03/2006 13:52

Hi everyone and welcome and congrats to the new joiners

well I am 12 weeks today and feeling much better. Have booking in appointment this afternoon.

Gingeme-I think everyone in my area is offered a nuchal if they want one. You can choose not to have that scan if you don't want it regardless of your age.

paow · 28/03/2006 13:53

Hello all, just catching up with all the news.
I hope you are all getting on OK.
I had a horrible cold and had to stay in bed for 4 days, it was horrible, first time in my life I could not just reach for the night nurse...
I still can't taste or smell so I'm confused about sickness and tiredness with this cold...
Belly is still big though!

Take care and stay clear from people with colds/flus!
