glad you had a good anniversary Mrs Blobby.
Oh dear the holidays aren't going well are they? We're off to Bordeaux next Friday, so I really hope we have a better time. 16 adults and 3 kids sharing a few gites, so will be busy! we are all going over for a wedding. I have nothing to wear yet-I even had a nightmare that a burglar stole my favourite dress and shoes (like they would leave the TV/stereo etc and head for my wardrobe)so it is obviously bothering me. There is no way I could fit in the dress anyway!

Congrats on a girl Tigerlion and on your scan Gemmity.

All OK here. They are interviewing for my job tomorrow, for when I go on leave, and I feel a bit funny about it. I know they need to get someone in, but I suppose it drums it home that I will be off in a couple of months. I am feeling all overprotective about my position.

Gingeme-hope scan goes well tomorrow.

I am off to post on the meet up thread

majormoo · 13/06/2006 13:21

oh and wuzzle-enjoy the build up to your wedding. Not long to go!

whiffy · 13/06/2006 13:22

I fell over in the street the other day so have every sympathy...

Parents need pampering is sponsored on the Mumsnet website and has had fab reviews. It's basically a holiday in Italy where they throw in the nannies for you so you can relax whilst someone else builds sandcastles and stuff. Oh and they do on-site spa treatments as well...there's been some rave reviews in the papers but I haven't yet heard from anyone who's been so have no idea what to expect. Though the words 'Nannies' & 'Spa' have somewhat captured my imagination!

I am totally stumped on the baby name front this time. Every time DH & I agree on a fab name (first it was Jessica, then Chloe, then Olivia) we check it out in the list of 100 most popular names and find it there in the top five. Aaaaarrghhh. I can't bear the thought of giving DD-to-be a name that will turn out to be the next generations 'Tracey' and then I also couldn't face giving her something trendy. Is there a middle ground? All I need is a book called "Traditional names that won't become common and that everyone will like and which aren't impossible to spell" - surely not too much to ask?

Gingeme - good luck with the scan tomorrow.

Gingeme · 13/06/2006 16:14

Tahnkyou ladies. I kept saying to my dh today 'wish it was tommorrow!'. We can get it over and done with then. I had 2 cool baths yesterday. One I was joined by my 2 year ds so I didnt get much bathing done. I went to my bed for 2 hours today. Couldnt believe it I never sleep in the day unless Im realy poorly. Went out this morning to buy a fan and have a look round the shops. Got in about 1 and said to dh Im going for a lay down. Next minute it was 3.15!! Guess I needed it. Its so warm that knocks anyone out. Well Ill say ttfn and will let you know how it goes tomm. xxxx

MrsBlobby · 13/06/2006 17:12

Best of luck, Gingeme. I'll be thinking of you....

DogMum · 13/06/2006 18:46

I've been really tired in the last couple of days too, Gingeme. It doesn't help that I woke up at 5 this morning with that, I-know-I'm-not-going-to sleep-again feeling. The dog thought it was his birthday seeing me so early! I confess to a snooze this afternoon though.

Whiffy, I don't think there's much you can do to predict fashions in naming. You might pick a really traditional name that no one else has used for ages and then a royal names their baby (think William in the early 80s) and you're stuffed, or less likely it comes up in an Australian soap. We haven't got very far with names. I'm applying the 'barrister' test. ie. if it wants to be a barrister would this name be embarrassing? So far, we can't get past Bernard for a girl.

Gingeme, I'm glad your scan is tomorrow so that you can stop worrying. The most likely thing by a really long way is that everything is absolutely fine, so I hope you find room in amongst the emotions to enjoy seeing your baby.

Gingeme · 14/06/2006 13:48

Good afternoon ladies. A big sigh of relief all round. Had my scan and all is well. Baby growing fine, placentas in the right place and heart and everything is growing to plan. But alas were not having our pink one that we wished forSad. Its definately a boy. The sanogropher looked from 2 different angles and it is most definately a boy! So between dh and me we now have 6 boysShock. Still thats that over and Ive had about 3 wees to get rid of the 2 pints of water I drank previous to my scan. I wish you all well and thank you all for you kind regards.xx

nowanearlyNicemum · 14/06/2006 14:24

congratulations gingeme,
that's fantastic news!!! I'm so pleased for you. You must both be so relieved. Now you can just look forward to getting really enormous over the coming months :o

I have my scan tomorrow but there'll be no pink or blue announcements from this corner Wink

marthahm · 14/06/2006 15:33

hooray! well done gingeme. i'm so pleased, i've been thinking about your scan all day. wonderful news. i bet that makes it much less of a disapointment that it's not a girl.

Gingeme · 14/06/2006 17:09

Thanks ladies.Good luck for tomm nowanearly. Dont forget 2 pints of water atleast! Its realy boring but has to be done to get a good look. Ive got to have a glucose test in a couple of weeks because my Mum is diabetic. I had one with my last ds and had to drink Lukozade which I detest. Had to do it on an empty stomach too. Not nice. Dh and I are discussing boys names now. Still havnt got a clue. He suggested Harvey which I think is quite nice. Different without being too outlandish.Oh well just nice to be over all that worry now. Grin

majormoo · 14/06/2006 17:54

glad it all went well Gingeme. What a relief. well I think the boys are still outnumbering the girls on this thread at the moment!!! we must have enough for a football team between us!

I didn't have to drink water before my scans by the way? must be different in different hospitals.

good luck tomorrow nowanearlynicemum.

DogMum · 14/06/2006 17:57

Congratulations Gingeme. Really pleased for you. Hopefully you've kept your little boy clothes.

I didn't have to drink water for my scan - I thought that was only if you weren't pregnant. I guess it depends on the scanning equipment your hospital has. They found the baby anyway, which is the main thing.

Has anyone started shopping yet? Or prefer not to have anything before the baby arrives? We're planning to buy the things we'll need from the start - I know I won't be able to face shopping at first.

hana · 14/06/2006 18:22

having a girl here!! I have 2 sisters as well and its fab ( a brother as well, mum was holding out for a boy) but 3 will be it for me
have told no one (dh doens't want to)
so that will be dd3!!! really really excited about that , now have to agreee on a name.....

gingeme - doens't everyone have to have a glucose test at 28 weeks to test for gestational diabetes? I had it with my 2 girls and have another one booked for end of July - I hate Lucozade and gag having to drink that much - yuck

and just a question about blood tests - results back from my booking in appt ( at about 17 weeks) showed that my rubella antibodies were low and should be regarded as 'suceptible' - did anyone else have this? does immunity lessen as you age? I would have had mmr when it was first introduced in the late 70's

hana · 14/06/2006 18:24

pleased on your scan news as well Gingeme! must be a big relief - have just been reading the thread

Seona1973 · 14/06/2006 19:41

I had to have a glucose tolerance test in my last pregnancy but thats only because there was a higher level of sugar than normal in one of the blood tests taken later in pregnancy. I did end up having to monitor my blood sugar several times a day but luckily my gestational diabetes was diet controlled and I didnt need to take insulin.

I only got advised to drink water for my dating scan (around 14 weeks) and it was 1 pint roughly 1 hour before the appointment so dont go overboard as too much fluid in your bladder can also make it harder for you to be scanned. By this age the baby should be large enough for the scanner to pick it up anyway. You only have to take fluids in the earlier ones as the bladder then pushes your uterus forward so they can get a better picture.

Re: rubella - what age are you and where do you live hana, as I had the rubella immunisation when I was at school but it wasnt part of the MMR at that point and that would have been late 70's/early 80's. Immunisations dont always offer full protection and they dont all last forever either. Do you have to get immunised after the birth then?

hana · 14/06/2006 19:53

I'm 36 and am in London ( but grew up in Canada and had MMR there) I've read a bit on the net about it and because it's only about 25 years old there is still research going on about decreased immunity as people age. There are probably safe levels of antibodies and maybe I am towards the low end but still ok(like iron levels) but I'll have to ask about getting immunized again

has no one else had this on their blood test results? I didn't for the dd's, and youngest is only 18 months - can't see that my levels would have decreased that much over 2 years or so

Gemmitygem · 15/06/2006 04:45

Hi everyone,

Gingeme, great news about your scan, what a relief it must be for you!

Major, know what you mean about feeling funny about maternity leave replacement. You get that feeling at work a bit as if you're already 'out of the equation' because you're going to be away and might not come back.. but nothing much to be done I suppose!

DogMum, haven't bought anything for baby yet, but will get a few things once I'm back in the UK in August.. MIL has kindly but slightly annoyingly bought so much stuff for it already, which she is adding to all the time, but of course I'd like to get some things for it, and so would my Mum! But really looking forward to getting a few things for it, as it seems to make it more real..

After 11 days without being moody I cried for 2 hours yesterday over nothing, to bemusement of DH..seems the hormonalness of the first 3 months is not over yet. Is anyone else feeling like this?

Gingeme · 15/06/2006 09:34

Dont even go there Gemmitygem. I was so suprised when the scan man told me were having a boy cause I have been balling my eyes out at a drop of a hat! Ive had 3 pregnancies and they have all been so different but Ive never been so emotional. I heard about preg ladies saying they cry at tv ads and things like that and I smugly thought to myself'how silly' but now Im doing it. So dont worry your not the only one Wink

Sunshine78 · 15/06/2006 10:05

Gingeme - really pleased about the news from your scan Smile

wuzzlefraggle · 15/06/2006 11:27

gingeme - so glad that your scan went well!

hana - oh a pink one eh?! same here lol

majormoo, thankyou for the well wishes, yep it deffinatly isnt long now..its crazy really...in 4 days i'll be a mrs instead of a miss lol

cant wait to go on holiday now!!

hope that everyone is doing well and that the blooming has began Grin

nowanearlyNicemum · 15/06/2006 11:39

just back from my scan. all appears to be well and we managed to close our eyes when she started scanning down below so the surprise is safe for a bit longer :)

however, for some reason or another the image wasn't very clear so she's sending me for another scan in a fortnight's time to make sure that everything is at is should be. she told us not to worry, she's not referring us for any other reason so the only thing I'm stressing about is trying to find an appt for another scan which has got to be done before the 28th. not an easy task.
gemmitygem, I'm sooooo emotional too. In fact I think that this time round it's getting worse as the pregnancy progresses - it only takes the slightest thing to start me off and then I just sob and sob. I think dp is getting a bit fed up of it to be honest. Just need to remind him that it's not exactly a bed of roses for me either !!!

whiffy · 15/06/2006 12:05

Good luck with the wedding, Ms Wuzzle.

I'm having a pink one too. And still being emotional. Told DH on Monday to get rid of Au-pair NOW (he ignored me) then on Tuesday he asked me why I'd said it, and I could not for the life of me come uo with a single reason or even remember what had prompted comment Blush

This is another call for anyone who wants to meet up in London, please put your name down if you haven't already.. here's the link

Gemmitygem · 15/06/2006 12:44

what do you all think about starting a new thread, as we've got to 800 msgs?

Gingeme · 15/06/2006 16:06

Ive just been reading through this thread from the begining. Back to when we were all feeling sick and sorry for ourselves. Glad were all feeling a bit more at ease with out preg bodies. Cant seem to get on this meeting up thread for some unknown reason so dont know about starting a new one I might lose you all Sad Wonder what happened to that poor lady LaGuanaca who was feeling depressed about being preg!! Wish you all the best for Monday Wuzzlefraggle. I hope the weather is as lovely as it is today but not too hot for ya. Just been to the park with my 2 year ds and a lady came over and asked how far along I am. Nice to know I look preg and not just fat anymore..........

MrsBlobby · 15/06/2006 16:10

Just wanted to say well done, Gingeme. Glad all is progressing nicely. what a relief it must be for you!!!
