Sunshine78 · 04/04/2006 08:58

Hi everyone

My husband didn't think he would cope at the birth of our DS but said he would give it a go. He coped very well and said it was the most amazing thing he as ever seen and has no doubts about being there this time.

Welcome Mrs Blobby

wuzzlefraggle · 04/04/2006 09:12

welcome Mrsblobby :)

forgot to answer that question bout dp's being there...my dp says he wants to be there...wether he's still standing at the end of it all is another thing lol

Gingeme · 04/04/2006 09:38

yawn! Not sleeping very well wuzzlefraggle. Wake up atleast twice for a wee now which is realy annoying.Had such a strange dream about one of the guys from DIY SOS last night doing a parachute jump with Prince to raise money for my baby! My hospital wont tell you the sex of the baby at the scan. Hospital policy. Well that was 2 years ago when I had my last ds. Might have changed again now. Dont know if Id want to know anyway. Happy Birthday marjamoo XXXX :)

wuzzlefraggle · 04/04/2006 09:50

id kill just for a nap lately gingeme lol. i'd heard about how some hospitals dont tell you the sex of the baby...

SKYTVADICT · 04/04/2006 10:24

Welcome Mrs Blobby.

Happy Birthday Majormoo.

Mathahm - definitely only paracetomol.

I have decided not to go on the result of the 20 week scan as DD2 was supposed to be a DS and was quite a surprise when she popped out! We won't be even asking if they can see.

We (I!) also decided that if we end up going down the road of an amnio then we will ask. Dp doesn't really want to know but will go with what I want apparently. Then we have also had people telling us that if we find out they don't want to know! Well thats just tough.

Also waking at least twice in the night for the loo and one of the times being awake for about an hour. Quite lucky as only working two days a week and the other days I lay on the sofa under a quilt after lunch and have a nap (always setting the alarm for the school pick up of course!)

Paow - Think I was quite active at 6/7 months and will have to be this time as will have DDs of 10 and 6 who will make sure I am.

Gingeme · 04/04/2006 10:33

Quilt on the sofa! Luxury. My 2 year old ds wouldnt let me. Got his tea party on Sunday. Got a few little ones coming to help him celebrate. Just hope Im not feeling too sick. Still mu Mum will be on hand to help. Cant wait. Hes totaly mad on Bob The Builder. Anyone know where I can get a Bob birthday cake? They dont sell them in Asda.

catgirl · 04/04/2006 12:45

Have my first midwife appt today. already have a ds aged, 3 (will be 4 by the times this one arrives). quesiness seems to have passed - thankfully. Think I have forgotten everything from last time round...

wuzzlefraggle · 04/04/2006 13:28

Sunshine78 · 04/04/2006 13:30

Welcome catgirl its amazing what you will remember I'm sure!

paow · 04/04/2006 13:41

Hello everyone and welcome to the new girls!
Best of luck on your scans/app.
Thank you for your replies about my cousin coming to visit when I'm 6 months pg, I should be OK as I'm used to hot weather, fingers crossed!

I def want my dh to be at the birth, I'm sure he'll be so emotional and I think I will really need him at that time too.

Any of you got thinking about names yet?
We got loads already! :)
take care

Gingeme · 04/04/2006 14:16

Welcome to the Ocrober/November clan he he xxx

Gingeme · 04/04/2006 14:19

That was for catgirl by the way. We gonna call ours Amy if its a girl but dont have a clue for a boy.Weve got Keith,Connor and David already. I quite like Nathan but dh not sure. If David had his way hed call it Bob!!

wuzzlefraggle · 04/04/2006 14:21

paow...names is all im thinking about lately...boys names seem to be prooving most difficult tho, lol. my mind seems to change one day to the next, so ive not got a clue really lol.

Gemmitygem · 04/04/2006 14:48

Welcome catgirl and Mrs Blobby!

Agree we should start a new stats thread...

I'm back in Kazakhstan after 2 days in Kyrgyzstan. It's a lovely country but very poor.. But on the plus side they just repaired the road so it only took 3 hours to get home.

Re names: have been driving Dh mad, every two minutes I go 'What about Gwendolen?' and he groans loudly.

For girls, I like Gwendolen (!), Lydia, Susannah, Lily, Adela, Polly, Miranda, Robin, Zoe or Lucy.

For boys I like Jonathan, Samuel, Barnaby, Joseph, Gabriel, Toby or Benjamin.

Also two middle names each which sound nice together, like Lily Rose Helena or something.. or Jonathan Louis Gabriel.

It would be nice to have something a bit unusual, but not unusual enough to be teased, like my poor cousin who is called Loveday.

DH refuses to enter the whole discussion, because I'm such a planner ahead and I think it irritates him. He's started saying he wants to call it either Tarquin or Frogmella Angry

Re; presence at birth, think Dh wants to be there, but part of me would like to be surrounded by midwives, my Mum and elderly wise female relatives all cheering me on, with no men allowed!

Hope everyone is fine and guess you are all starting to show now! I keep sucking in my stomach when I walk past the human resources boss..

whiffy · 04/04/2006 16:16

I am in middle of big fight over names. I want Gideon for a boy or Lucca Suzanne for a girl, DH wants Finn for a boy, or "anything except a bloody suzanne vega song" for a girl. Harumph. I like Finn but DS is called Fergus and it just sounds so naff putting the two together - my two nephews are called Jack & Josh and every time I think of it I remember Rolf Harris singing 2 little boys and sends nasty shudder through me. Finn 'n' Fergus sounds just as bad...

Still, least I'm not having erotic dreams about Rolf Harris yet Grin

Or maybe we should just stick with normal names. Will ask my mates what they think once I spill the beans about being pg.

No way am I going through all that labout stuff without DH being there and appreciating just how much I am suffer. He was blown away by it last time, almost literally, when DS 'swum' out, which neither of us expected. Oh my gosh, the things they don't warn you about in NCT, was like a burst water main.

Welcome new ones. Agree we should do a new stats thread but maybe wait a couple of weeks until all scans done and everyones' checked in A-OK? There are loads of people who I haven't seen on the thread lately...wonder how they are (going4potty, poppyshed, cece, + a few others) hope all is OK - check in guys and let us know (full audience participation required on this thread, guys..)

MW tomorrow and then another scan on Friday to see if all OK as was v small on last scan. Am startign to get nervous but am vimitting for England at the moment which is reassuring in a kind of not very nice way.

totallyfloaty35 · 04/04/2006 16:51

Whiffy,i want luca for a boy or xsander, which dh says is name of a fish and friends say is name of a character in buffy, luca also makes dh burst into song.for a girl i wanted Ruby but they used it on eastenders so not sure now,i like Elodie and Esme but dh def doesnt.

OP posts:
whiffy · 04/04/2006 16:57

My friend has Luc for a boy and everyone calls him Luccy which is sooooo sweet; If it wasn't already taken by a mate I'd have gone for it or Luca as a boys' name too - so thoroghly approve of your choice.

Your girls names remind me of what we were going to call DS if he'd been a DD - Eloise. Still love that name (again, on account of the song...) but somehow seems wrong to nick it from first pg and give it to 2nd pg.

sassy1983 · 04/04/2006 17:28

Hi everyone. Yes, whiffy, I had my scan yesterday. It was amazing, could see the heartbeat, and the wee legs kicking about. Grin

This is all so new to me as I am first of my friends to be pregnant and also, I was the last baby to be born in my tiny family 23 years ago!

Its lovely to see everyone else getting through their scans too, I find it all fascinating!

I'm getting a detailed scan at 20 weeks so can't wait Grin

MrsBlobby · 04/04/2006 18:08

Hi again!

What are you thinking of in terms of the actual birth???

The more I read, the more I'm keen on doing the whole water birth thing. Any thoughts?

Gingeme · 04/04/2006 19:15

I had a water birth with my last ds. It was realy good. So worth it. It was gentle, calm, warm and the painrelief was fantastic. Compared to my other 2 births which were both on a bed it was sooo much better. My ds came out so calm too he didnt actualy cry till he had vitamin k. Hes 2 next week and still a realy calm toddler. Go for it Mrs Blobby

Poppyshed · 04/04/2006 21:08

Hey Ladies, I'm still about and have been reading all the threads lately. Haven't felt like I had much to say, sorry! Still don't feel particulalry preg, but waistline is slackening now. I should be about 11 weeks now. I saw MW for booking in visit on Sat and have been allocated the same lady I had whilst carrying dd. Which is lovely, as we got on so well and as dd is only 14 months old she remembers us well. She said I was just as paranoid 1st time around about lack of symptoms! Should get date for one and only scan in the next week or two. Can't wait for that, then I'll settle down a bit. That's what happened last time anyway. I am sorry to have read about all the discomforts and ladies who've lost lo's. It's terribly sad, and there has been too much of that on Oct thread. Ijust hope those who are brave enough to try again when they are ready make it all the way safely next time. There for the grace of God and all that.... By the way, dd has come out in a rash on her torso, arms and legs tonight. Fades under pressure, and she's not burning up etc. And I haven't changed washing powders etc. Looks a bit like measles to me. If it's still there in the morning I will take her to docs, but anyone know what the risks to preg ladies are with measles/chickenpox etc? I know there's a lot of this about at the moment. She has had mmr 3 months ago by the way. Any suggestions appreciated. And keep tapping away, xx

Gemmitygem · 05/04/2006 04:33

Love the name Gideon, Whiffy. I like it too but DH once knew a Gideon he didn't like so doesn't want it etc etc.

Re water birth, am really interested in this, as it sounds great, but I'm worried I'll need the epidural which you can't have at the same time (now that would be an idea!) Has anyone had a water birth for the first one?

PS I started a new stats thread just in case...

booge · 05/04/2006 08:02

Hi Everyone, Lovely to catch up on all your news and welcome to the new people too :)

I'm just trotting along at the moment, I'm 14 weeks now and the only time I feel sick is if I get too tired or if I take my vitamin in the morning. I nearly barfed while driving in to work this morning, just as I reached a busy roundabout so I won't be doing that again. I've got stretching pains in my tummy today which are a bit uncomfortable and my back has been really painful. Otherwise everything is dandy. DS who is 11 months is a joy, he's at that really lovely stage where he's learning something new everyday and now I'm not so sick and tired I've got more time for him. Picking him up is the only problem. Can't wait for the scan in 6 weeks, seems like an age away.

I definitely want DH there at the birth, he was such a support last time and so patient, I wouldn't have anybody else instead. Hoping for a water birth at home so my Mother will come and pick up DS if it is in the day time. I hate hospitals and I had to spend 3 days there last time after a planned home birth ended up in an induction with an Oxytocin drip so fingers crossed for this time. Not even thinking about names yet but really like some of your suggestions. We struggled with boys names last time and have convinced ourselves we are having another boy so we are probably in for another struggle.
