Excelent news Swizzler. Good luck pushing this one outWink Weekends are better for me too actualy. Been looking on Ebay at some lovely baby stuff. Even though we still got bits from last ds still need some bits. Its so addictive. Im bidding on 2 maternity dresses at the moment. Ive won a doppler machine just waiting for it to be delivered.......

Justers · 25/05/2006 21:54

Good news about scan swizzler, I've got mine tomorrow and starting to get a bit nervous. I didn't think 5kg was that much either. Gingme, I've been really bad regarding ebay at the mo as I've not bought any baby things until I get my scan, therefore I've bought 2 handbags and 3 purses instead!! I think I would get obsessed if I bought a doppler, but let us know if it's a good buy.

Rianna · 26/05/2006 07:00

swizzler, congrats.no, 5 kg is just fine.
I've found an italian site ( ans they are keen not to put on tpoo much weight, and with my bmi of 21 I will put on between 12.5 and 16 kilo's, and now at 20 weeks at 5 kg it is only slightly above the averager, closer to 'average' then ' high' .
on the american site someone here gave us once, it was even low-ish.I'm tall with hips and breasts and think it is is just right for my body.
Haven't been eating more/ badly so it must be ok.

Swizzler · 26/05/2006 08:53

TBH, I'm not too worried about the weight either. At least I have a well-nourished baby Shock

Good luck for your scan today, Justers. It's better than the 12w one in some ways, as they take longer and go through everything with you. It's reassuring to know that, so far as they can tell, everything is developing normally.

Haven't tried ebay yet for clothes (not that keen on buying stuff I can't try on) but big shopping trip planned for next week. I can no longer get into my jeans, so something must be done!

wuzzlefraggle · 26/05/2006 15:04

swizzler, im glad that the scan went well :)

wuzzlefraggle · 26/05/2006 16:08

jmcmugwump · 26/05/2006 20:42

Hi all, glad everyone os feeling so well and seems to be really chirpy, I suppose it's because we are at the bit porky but not too huge stage, I have only put on 7.5lbs, and am 20wks today so feeling v chuffed with myself:)
Would be really good to meet up, weekends suit me best, but any excuse for a day off work may well be very welcome.:o
Saw the mw yesterday as was getting worried that at 20 weeks I still haven't felt the baby move, but when she did the doppler thing she said apparently my placenta is at the front so the baby is trying to bash through that to get to the outside world, but was very reassuring to hear the heartbeat again, especially as am off to Turkey next week, tho' one of the girls at work said she hopes the placenta isn't o th exi] hatch don't think i want to hink about that kind of thing just yet....

Have a god week, and provided I steer clear of all the potential bugs diseases will spk to you all when I get back:)

plus got my next scan when ge back can' wait :)

Tigerlion · 26/05/2006 21:20

So lovely to catch up with MN to see what everyone is up to after a while and great to hear the news of all your scans. Just been back from a two and a half week holiday with DH and his parents who were fantastic as they looked after our 9 month old DS for most of the time which meant that my DH and I were able to have quite a few evening meals alone. PIL are really great – at times!!!

For anyone else with another baby, I saw the most amazing double buggy which I think we are going to get. It is called a Marco Skystroller and is only £129. Don't know if this will work but you can see it \link{http://www.justformumz.co.uk/review43.html\here}. I have read fantastic reviews on it and most of them say that the baby bit can be used from birth as opposed to 2 months.

Also, have been buying maternity and baby things on the Jojomamanbebe and Blooming Marvellous sites where they have a sale section. Definitely worth looking at as they have some real bargains.

Does anyone else have really tender and sore breats? Mine are absolute agony and it does not help when my DS keeps on hitting them with his toys (hopefully not intentional)! Also, I have such backache and can no longer get DS out of the bath which means that DH has to come home early to help me. And all this at 20 weeks...! And for one final nag, I wake up around four times a night and am exhausted (which must be why I failed my driving test today). Does anyone have any special tips of how to cure any of the above? BTW, if anyone is thinking of getting a Swiss ball, get a Reebok one from Argos at £7.99 as it is virtually the same thing as the one that NCT etc are selling as birth balls for over £20.00.

Wuzzlefraggle, you must be so busy in the lead-up to the wedding. Have you got your dress and everything? So lovely to think that the LO will be present in some shape or form at the wedding!

Hope everyone has a greazt bank holiday and make sure to get loads of rest!!! I have the scan next Tuesday and we are still deciding whether to find out the sex.

Justers · 26/05/2006 22:31

Hi everyone! Scan went well everything looks fine I never asked about the sex though. Really weird how detailed it was, could see the baby swallowing the amniotic fluid. Oh well looks like my handbag obsession is finally over as I will have to start buying baby things now!

MrsBlobby · 27/05/2006 10:06

Hi everyone - glad to hear all the scans are going well. I've got mine this Friday and I'm so looking forward to it. The bump's really going for it now and is churning around for Britain - very strange, particularly when in a serious conversation!

I also am having problems with my jeans and my t-shirts are not really working, so I really must get some more clothes - oh, well, it's a good excuse for a nice shop!

I've also been reading like mad. I've read a great book called Spiritual Midwifery by Ina May Gaskin. It's again very earth motherish, but it does take the fear out of childbirth and describes it as a psychadelic experience - maybe a bit far, but as I don't have anything else to compare it with, it works for me!

Gingeme · 27/05/2006 13:02

He he Mrs Blobby it is a strange feeling at first but very reasuring too. Im still only feeling flutters at the moment as Im only 17+5. Got my doppler system from Ebay today. Didnt hear the heartbeat yet. Says on the box to use it from about 20weks. Was weird hearing the other noises I guess baby hears all the time. Listened to my 2 year ds heart. He thought it was facinating. Good luck with your scan next week then. Are you asking the sex?

Seona1973 · 27/05/2006 13:24

you are all sooo lucky getting a 20 week scan. Here (North Lanarkshire, Scotland) you only get a dating scan around 12 weeks and as long as you are not classed as having a 'problem' pregnancy you dont get any others Sad. At the hospital you are also not allowed to ask the sex of the baby as they wont tell you anyway.

I now seem to be too big for normal jeans but too small for my maternity jeans - they keep sliding down. As my belt doesnt fit any more either, I have now started using one of dh's ties as a belt - very classy!! Do you get stratchy belts for pregnant ladies??

We are also going on holiday on Friday - Menorca. We've got a nice short flight so dd doesnt get too fed up and I dont have to sit for too long as well. Should really go and get some holiday money soon, and sort out which clothes I still need to buy/take with me!!

DogMum · 27/05/2006 18:46

Hi All
I've been lurking on this thread for a few days, not knowing how to join in but not wanting to be a stalker either so here goes...

I'm 18+6 and having heard about your 20wk scans, can't wait for mine (week after next.)

Anyway it was Seona1973 (making me feel old - it's my first time and I was born in 1966) who inspired me to get off the bench. Seona, have you tried a long scarf as a belt? - chiffon, or silk or polyester or something. It holds my maternity jeans up a treat and looks as if it's on purpose (I think.)

Seona1973 · 27/05/2006 18:53

Dogmum, glad to see you joining in - sorry for making you feel old!! I will have to look about for some sort of scarf then - would look a wee bit nicer than the navy blue patterned tie I've got on at the moment. Grin

Rianna · 28/05/2006 19:46

hello dogmum, i'm from 69 (dec though :-))
i'm a little older then the average as well.
for maternitu clothes: Tchibo does them next week, staritng on Wednesday, strencht jeans similar to my 85 pound Fomres ones for 12 pounds...I'm going to buy a pair to try out!

Rianna · 28/05/2006 19:50

ladies- i want advice about babynames as well. for a girl- do you like Francesca, Stella, Alessandra , Silvia most?

thanks!

wuzzlefraggle · 29/05/2006 14:15

welcome to the thread dogmum! :)

justers, glad that the scan went well. did you mean to ask the sex of the baby, or did you just forget to?

hope that everyone is doing well Grin

majormoo · 29/05/2006 16:28

Hi All
Hope you're enjoying the bank holiday (those of you in the UK.)Glad scans are going well and welcome Dogmum.

Rhianna-those names are nice. I like Francesca or Stella best I think.

We've had loads of visitors over the weekend, so have some quiet time now while DH and DD go to the tip to dispose of the ridiculous number of wine bottles that have been filling up our kitchen throughout the weekend and won't fit in the recycling bin!

Re my latest pregnancy dilemma, was told at my scan I have a low-lying placenta. They said it should move hopefully. The thing is at Kings (where I had the scan) they said I should be rescanned locally at 32 weeks, but they won't do it in Brighton until 36 weeks. Seems a bit late to me, but there's not much I can do about it. The difference in the way we have been treated at Kings compared to the Royal Sussex is ridiculous. In Brighton, it is like you are an inconvience to them; at Kings they actually treat you like real people! Anyway, sorry for rant.

Gingeme · 29/05/2006 16:43

majormoo they told me that all through my last pragnancy and said it would move by itself wich it did. On my 12th week scan with this one they said the same so I wouldnt worry too much. Im watching The Sound Of Music yet again. It brings back such lovely memories of my childhood. Brings my spirits up every time I see it. Rianna,Francesca is my fave out of those girly names. We have decided on Amy for a girl. Still havnt a clue for a boys name. Putting it on hold till the 20 week scan.........

Justers · 29/05/2006 20:36

No i didn't really want to know the sex, and it wasn't until the scan had finished that i thought 'i wonder what it is?'. So i obviously wasn't meant to find out. I think i like Stella the best. Hello dogmum!

Swizzler · 30/05/2006 10:22

I like Francesca and Silvia (tho would prob spell it Sylvia, or is that an Italian sp?). Silvia nice as unusual but still easy to say! Plus you can shorten it to Silvie which is nice.

Maternity clothes shop tomorrow = not before time! Have completely run out of casual trousers that fit - even my gym trousers are too tight :(.

Welcome Dogsmum! Is there a round up of people's details somewhere with due dates etc?

Sunshine78 · 30/05/2006 13:47

Hi- just been catching up never got chance to log on last week! Had scan this morning and the cheecky monkey stuck its tongue out at us! Didn't bother asking the sex as I'm not fussed.

Meeting up would be great and London is fine but I can only make a weekend (sorry to be a pain!)

Gingeme · 30/05/2006 15:06

Wow thats excelent Sunshine. Sounds a cheeky baby already he he. Im 18 weeks today and woke at 7 this morning feeling a few little kicks. I said good morning to baby and turned over to go back to sleep.Grin
