bensmum3 i'd love some advice on the nappies. have bought a load of tots bots on ebay to start with and figured i'd work from there.

Gemmitygem · 23/05/2006 12:38

Hi everyone,

19+5 today and still no def. movements, but had a hard little bump in my belly this morning that I think must have been a foot, or the baby's head (it went away after about 10 minutes). Has anyone else had this?

Totally, don't know if it makes you feel any better, but my DH is so far planning to come over from Kazakhstan a day before the due date! However, he is going to ask his work if they'll let him go on training in Europe just before the due date. It's not very reassuring..

bensmum, re weight, I put on 3 kg, which seems to be only on bump/boobs, think it's a bit of a lottery what we gain and where..

hope you have a good time in Toulouse, martha..

Over the weekend, read 'MIsconceptions' by Naomi Wolf (oh my God, makes you glad not to give birth in the US!!) and 'Life after Birth' by Kate Figes (quite shocking but seemed to ring true), and started 'Birthing from Within' which just scared me as seemed to require you to be very earthmotherish. So now sticking to 'Birth and Beyond' by Dr Yehudi Gordon, which is lovely. Anyone have any more suggestions? Feel like I'm maybe informing myself a bit too much, as now even more terrified than before! Grin

Swizzler · 23/05/2006 13:54

Those pg books really scare me - but I keep reading them! I think info is good, but stop when you're getting too worried about what might go wrong.

Meeting up sounds like a good plan, if anything could be arranged. Isn't there a separate thread on this site for meet-ups?

Weight: have put on nearly a stone and am really starting to look pg (20w on Thurs). I can see the difference from week to week (and from day to day!). Might also depend on your build and pre-pg weight, though. Didn't lose any in first trimester either.

Yes, the sickness has gone but now I have heartburn and indigestion - joy.

Re movement, baby is definitely kicking and OH can feel it too! Does this mean I'm further on than I think? I've been feeling the baby move for a few weeks now, and this is my first. It's a v weird sensation.

Hope everyone is well :)

Swizzler · 23/05/2006 13:55

Oh and re nappies we're in a small flat with no washing machine, so def. NOT using reusables.

majormoo · 23/05/2006 20:21

hi everyone and welcome bensmum3
Totally I think it would be a nice idea if some of us met up. (could be a bit tricky for gemmity!)

I'm feeling fine now, but Fri/sat was dreadful-thought I was going to pass out a few times and kept feeling sick. weird.

gemmitygem I have read some of those books too. I really identified with some of it I have to say!
When preggars with DD I did not feel movement much at this stage either.

Had 20 week scan today. 2 hour wait to be seen, then mix up with my name and another woman's, so got very confusing in the room with them saying my notes said I was 23 weeks, not 20. We were beginning to panic that something horrible was happening again with all the ensuing confusion with dates/measurements but then another doctor came in as she had realised she was scanning the wrong woman!!! I met the woman they had mixed up with me on the way out!
Still, after that all went well. Scan was also checked by a consultant, because of our history, and I was chuffed when she looked at the heart she said she had an amazing view of the pulminary veins (or something that sounded like that!) which is very unusual and was because there was no fat on my tummy, just bump!!!
Baby is looking big-on the 95th centile at least. But they said that does not necessarily mean much it could just be growth spurt. And it is a BOY! can't believe it! what am I going to do with one of those!

Anyway, sorry for long post, but it has been a long day. Am now going to try and enjoy being pregnant if I possibly can now.

Gingeme · 23/05/2006 21:51

Excelent news majormoo. Oh how lucky seeing all the bits and pieces. Cant wait till my 20 week scan. Gonna ask the sex too. Went to see my new little niece today. Shes a whole month old now and still absolutely beautiful. Ah well done majormoo. xxxx

Justers · 23/05/2006 22:08

Hi everyone!
Not posted for a while as have been on my hols. Last holiday without sprogs!! I have got my 20 week on friday, can't wait. I don't have much of a bump yet and have hardly put on any weight, much to a work colleague's disgust. I also thought about reusable nappies but will probably take the easy option with disposables.

wuzzlefraggle · 24/05/2006 09:32

ahh, glad that you had such great news from your scan...a little boy!! my dp wants one of those lol. really happy to hear that everything is good majormoo Grin

cant wait for my 20 weeks scan now either...curiosity is driving me insane...i need to know if its boy or girl lol.

18+2 today and feeling pretty good :) its wierd how fast this is going...it seems like 2 minutes ago that we were all panicking about our first scans

justers, hope you had a nice holiday! me and dp get to go on ours on june 20th and i cant wait Grin

nowanearlyNicemum · 24/05/2006 10:30

great news majormoo - as you say, ENJOY BEING PREGNANT NOW!!! :o

Swizzler · 24/05/2006 11:21

Congrats on the scan Majormoo - mine's tomorrow (fingers and all else crossed!). I don't want to find out the sex, though, esp as OH is coming round to the idea that it might be a boy. I've been feeling a bit giddy as well, so it miught be the stage we're at.

Bought the 'Rough guide to babies' at the weekend - v. useful, not preachy and easy to understand. Their pg one looked good as well, but I have too many pg books and OH is concerned for my sanity!

Where would be a good place to meet up? I'd say London, but I'm predjudiced Wink. If we are going to do this, might be good to manage it in the next few months as we won't feel like travelling later on.

Gingeme · 24/05/2006 15:06

Good luck for tomm Swizzler. Im suffering a bit from heartburn now though I always do this part of pregnancy. Just wanted to ask is anyone else getting headaches? I seem to get them about 1pm to about 4pm and then they seem to wear off after I have taken a paracetamol. But its strange that I get them that time of day. Any ideas? Apart from that Im fine. Funny I was saying to DH this morning how quick this part of my preg is going. 17+2 weeks already. So cant wait till my 20 week scan......

Rianna · 24/05/2006 16:43

great news majormoo,
and good luck to all of you who are having their scans.
I'm afraid i'll have a littel fat on my tummy, put on neraly a stone and it is supposed to be a quarter of my pregnancy weight :(
still, as long as everything is ok, that's the main thing.
I'm 19 weeks 5 days now, will have the scan at 21 weeks so still have to wait...

Majormoo , boys are lovely, really , wehen they are small...if you can put up with your husband ( supposing you've got one) you certainly will be able to put up with a boy..they are so cute, welcome to Thomas the Tankengine :-)

majormoo · 24/05/2006 19:12

thanks for congrats everyone. DH is so chuffed there is a little Chelsea fan on the way. Just keep grinning when I think about it being a blue one-changing nappies is going to be a whole new experience!! There is no room for doubt anyway as we have a photo of the relevant bits!!

Good luck tomorrow swizzler.

gingeme, hope the headaches pass soon.

hope everyone else is well.

bensmum3 · 24/05/2006 22:16

Marthahm, if you CAT me, I can send you some leaflets, then you could ask me any questions ?
Iam 20wks now, hopefully having a scan next week maybe.
I like the idea of some of you meeting up, have met a few MN people in real life and they were every bit as nice as online.

whiffy · 25/05/2006 09:35

Keen on meet-up in London and also keen to sneak in a Nice meet for the two of us, Nownearly, if you fancy it as am planning to be over there some time in early July?

Good to hear the scans going well and good to hear it's a boy, Majormoo. My DS is a darling and I think they're far more cuddly than girls. You just have to pack them off somewhere when they hit 12 and start to smell....

Am basking in 2nd trimester love and joy (when I'm not having a stropp, obviously) and making most of it - had fab girly time in Marrakech last weekend and came back very poor but with lovely rug or two for new baby to vomit all over in due course. And am off to Costa Brava with huge gang of families (4 couples, 7 kids) for some top notch paella over the half-term. My bank manager will never speak to me again at this rate but he won't find out till it's far too late and the moneys spent Grin Grin

So what shall we do about a meet? How many of us are in & around London? I suspect the city is slightly easier for us to get to than Khazakstan, though we will of course raise half a glass of shandy to absent mates. If there's a show of hands of maybe half a dozen of us then I'm happy to organise pizza somewhere (now that we're all over the hula hoops thing)...

wuzzlefraggle · 25/05/2006 10:24

swizzler, hope that alls going well at your scan today! Grin

feeling very tired today, but nevermind...id rather be tired than back in the puking stage Grin

marthahm · 25/05/2006 10:42

whiffy i'd love to meet up in london too.
bensmum3 i'm not sure what CAT means? i'll be back from holiday on monday 5th so will find out then to ask you questions which would be v helpfull
good luck all of you with the scans in the meantime, ive got mine on the 5th when we get back.

Rianna · 25/05/2006 11:08

I'm close to London as well, let me know when you paln to meet up.

majormoo · 25/05/2006 11:10

whiffy, London would suit me as easy to get there from Brighton.

you should be getting some sunshine next week, lucky you. Have a great time.

I'm off to Paris for sister's hen weekend early June, but don't think there will be much lazing around in the sunshine going on!

Gingeme · 25/05/2006 12:56

Hi ladies. Just to put the record straight not all boys smell at 12. My ds is 12 abd he is very clean and hygene concious! Anyway got that off my chest now and yes a meet up would be realy good but then I live in North London and have a free travel pass curtisy of DH working on the underground so I can travel to wherever. Let me know where and when and Ill make baby sitting arrangements. Glad to hear well finaly be getting some sum majormoo. Just in time for half term.Grin

whiffy · 25/05/2006 14:09

Ok let's fix a date, somewhere in central London for long lunch...

How about 14th June? I think all the scans will be done by then..

paow · 25/05/2006 14:43

hi ya ladies how are you?
So happy to see you are all having your second scans, all the best, mine is still in 3 weeks time and can't wait!
Going to see the midwife next week.

Re nappies, I am def using the reusables, I am too concerned about the environment to use the other kind, I think everyone should at least have a look.

Re Weight. I put on 3 kg since 12 weeks and haven't put on any more, I am swimming and do walk a lot so I hope that is doing some good.
I do have a big noticable bump now though.

Re London, Just been to the new Mamas and Papas shop in Oxford Circus, is amazing, they also have a breastfeeding area, it'll be brilliant for when we have the little ones and fancy a bit of shopping in town!

Gingeme · 25/05/2006 14:48

He he guess what Whiffy? the 14th June is the date of my 20 week scan!!! Grin x

Rianna · 25/05/2006 16:26

I've not seen the new M&P shop yet, where is it? Topshop is there as well, and H&M is closeby.
We could have alunch is Wagamama's or does anyone know a nice restaurant nearby?

Swizzler · 25/05/2006 18:58

Can't make the 14th I'm afraid, I'm on holiday. Keen on meeting up in London tho'. Evenings/weekends better for me as I'm working.

Scan went very well, everything fine but baby LARGE. Big head (great) and long legs. The sonographer was really nice and spent time showing us everything. Didn't ask about the sex, but we both think she let the secret out... not telling anyone till it's here, though. If anyone's hoping for a delicate flower of a child, they'll be disappointed Grin.

Also had mw apointment this afternoon (and thus wangled day off work - lovely and sunny). She was nice too, but weighed me and then asked me to step back on the scales as she couldn't believe I'd out on that much weight Blush. Surely 5 kilos isn't that much for 20 weeks?

Anyway, OH and I both grinning away at the mo.
