Hi All
Have just surface from a couple of days of mucking out - getting rid of bank statements and lecture notes from the 80's. Thanks all for the warm welcome - it's good to know that there are so many other round people out there.

I like all of your girls names Rianna - Alessandra is really lovely and unusual in the UK too. I haven't got round to thinking about names yet. We're not going to ask the sex at the scan, as dp doesn't want to know in case they get it wrong. My sister's convinced it's a girl. His sister's convinced it's a boy. As long as one of them's right ...

Swizzler · 30/05/2006 16:05

Re cheeky babies, ours was picking its nose at the scan! Got a lovely pic of it as well - that's the one we'll be sending round to the rellies Grin.

Dogsmum: well done for getting round to a sort out. We're going to have to do some dramatic chucking out if we're to have room for baby and all its paraphanalia (sp?)

wuzzlefraggle · 31/05/2006 09:17

hi ladies :) glad to hear that everyone is doing well and that all the scans are going nicely

starting to wish that monday would hurry up so's i can have my 20 week done and find out if the babys a girl or a boy...not knowing is starting to drive me mad lol.

i have a question... how are all of you finding it the best way to sleep at night?? im finding it a little difficult to stay comfortable

totallyfloaty35 · 31/05/2006 09:31

Hi ladies, just back from hols,Jamaica was fab, flight was boring but ok,lovely to hear about all the latest scans, mines on friday.I now have huge bump and baby seems to have a trampoline in there to.
With regards to meeting up,i can do most days but not fri or sat and getting to London is fineSmile

Gemmitygem · 31/05/2006 10:58

hi everyone,

21 wks tomorrow!

felt first little kicks on Saturday but only rumblings since then, and the occasional hard lumps that go away again (must be its feet or elbows)

welcome Dogmum,

Totally, glad Jamaica was fun!

wuzzle, find that stuffing some of the duvet under the bump helps.. are you feeling full and grim and gassy? The other night I woke up feeling as if I was storing lots of hot beer or something (if only!) don't know what to do about it though.

Will book a scan for 22 weeks, but DH doesn't want to know the sex (I do though!) I will just try to have a bloody good look anyway! as think I saw a willy at the 15 week one.. Ultrasound scan in Kazakhstan costs the equivalent of 3 pound fifty, and the machines are quite new because they only started importing them a few years ago.

Also got the home doppler but can't hear anything on it.. anyone else have this prob? It says from 21 weeks but my SIL heard hers from 17 weeks..

majormoo · 31/05/2006 13:36

Hi Everyone
Glad you enjoyed Jamaica Totally.
I'm just starting to sleep on my side wuzzle, as usually like to sleep on my belly. Don;t they recommend a pillow in between the legs in the books?
I am really tired this week. Being a Big Brother addict I stayed up late on Monday and watched 'Big Brother's Big Brain'. Not doing that again as cannot stop yawning now (plus it meant I watched ER beforehand which made me cry)

Re meeting up, only days I cannot do are a Monday or Friday. If it is mid-week I will just sort a meeting out in London beforehand so I could probably make 14th June. Could probably do a weekend although with my sister's endless hen dos and the wedding, don't have many free weekends before end August!!! Off to Paris for hen do number 1 on Friday!

Swizzler-we did start a stats list but don't think everyone is on it.

wuzzlefraggle · 31/05/2006 14:14

thanks girls re the sleeping advice...i'll try the pillows and duvet thing, see if that helps a bit more
gemmity - yeah, i have been feeling gassier and fuller than usual (lol)

majormoo - im a BB addict too...cant egt enough of it

totally, glad that jamaica was fun!

Rianna · 31/05/2006 17:57

welcome back totally, nice to hear that you've had a good time.My bump starts to grow , mother in law is here and i put on 1.5 kg , help!!
yes i sleep with lots of cushions, start feelinf faint sometimes when lying on the back :

until how many weeks are you aloowed to lie on your back?

i sleep on side now as weel, but make sheartburn worse.

also try the feeding pillows, this week Tchibo seels one and got maternity jeans tehre for 12 pounds, fit well and stretchy.I fittes the 'S' which amde me feelless guilty about all the weight i'm putting on :-)

other question: 21 wweks tomorrow, some books call that 5 months, others count five months from 22 weeks...
how do you count months, or stcking to weeks?

Rianna · 31/05/2006 18:00

gemmy can't yu have a secret scan for 3.50?
don't tell the husband....
When you start buying blue 9pink?) just tell him you have female intuition, man believe that sort of thing.
today a lady told me she knew baby's sex, but is is a secret , which means she can't start butyng teh right colour as it would give her away...what's the point of that?

Sunshine78 · 01/06/2006 11:28

Riana - don't worry too much about sleeping on your back when I was expecting DS I would go to sleep on my side and wake up on my back - and it didn't do either of us any harm!

Gemmitygem · 01/06/2006 11:46

I thought of doing it secretly, but wouldn't be fair on DH... will just try and see on the 22 week scan. re buying stuff, MIL has already bought 4 boxes full of baby clothes, a car seat, moses basket, three snowsuits and a baby bath, and don't want to encourage her by telling her the sex (apart from fact that I'm not really into the whole blue/pink thing).. It's kind of her but I wouldn't mind having the chance to buy something for the baby myself!

Getting major heartburn after every meal now! (never had it ever before). Anyone have any tips?

majormoo · 01/06/2006 12:03

rhianna-can't believe someone says she knows the sex but it is a secret!!!! anyone could say that!

well looks like you won't have to buy much then Gemmity.

Have to say I hate baby baths-so HEAVY when full of water.

I had nightmare heartburn last time but can't remember what I used to help-sorry. Doesn't it mean the baby will have lots of hair apparently!!!

Sunshine78 · 01/06/2006 12:07

Gemmity-last time I drank Gaviscon as if it was pop, had to keep getting it from diff chemists though as the one in the village got abit funny with me about the amount I was using! It worked though which is the main thing - ask your MW for a perscription because then it is free.

MrsBlobby · 01/06/2006 13:03

Sorry - haven't been around this week.

As I said I'm having my scan tomorrow! With regards to the sex, we both said all the way along that we'd like to find out the sex, but this week DH is now having second thoughts! Think it's too tempting not to, though, so I think he'll come round!

So sweet, Gingeme, that you woke up and said hi to your baby and then went back to sleep again! It's lovely that it's making itself known even at this early stage! I have to admit that I do find myself talking to and singing to the baby. I'm sure it reacts sometimes (probably my imagination) but I hope it's comforting.

Wuzzle - a v-cushion helps when laying on my side. One bit of it goes between my legs, the other under my bump.

Swizzler · 01/06/2006 13:12

Just bought a V-shaped cushion myself from Argos - only 5.99. It might work, and it's useful for sitting up/bfing etc. later on.

MrsBlobby: good luck for your scan. The 20w one is great.

No remedies for heartburn except cursing (doesn't work). It might be triggered by different foods - I can't eat onions now without a flare up.

Tip for maternity clothes: Next do some good work trousers and jeans. But don't throw away the nasty belt that comes with them or they fall down Blush. Had to keep mine up with a bit of string before buying emergency belt at lunchtime!

Oh, and IKEA do a changing mat for 3.50 :)

Hope you're all having a good week.

wuzzlefraggle · 01/06/2006 13:17

thanks again ladies for all the advice and help re sleeping...i'll look out for one of those v-pillows next time i go shopping.

mrs blooby, have a nice time at the scan tomorrow! im sure your dp will want to know what the sex is...me and dp have already decided that we want to know the sex of the baby...the curiosity is waaay to much for us Grin lol

hope that every1 is doing well...is anybody getting cravings at all???

DogMum · 01/06/2006 14:29

Cravings yes! I can't get enough cheese and onion crisps (I don't even eat crisps normally) and I fancy ice cream quite often too - originally it was that artificial Neopolitan stuff we used to get as kids, but as you can't get it in blocks anymore, so I'm making do with Waitrose dark choc ices. I haven't had heartburn yet (touch wood.) So Gemmitygem, maybe you should indulge your cravings.

I'm eating out this evening, so have stuffed myself with fruit and salad so I can have CHIPS tonight. I'm not weighing myself these days, but I reckon that giving up booze entitles me to a few treats.

MrsBlobby · 01/06/2006 15:53

I've seen these baby baths that are bin shaped and the baby sits up in it - apparantly it makes the baby feel like it is in the womb.

Has anybody used them? If so, what's the verdict?

Also, re. prams. Has anybody used a Quinny Buzz or a Bugaboo? Are they worth the money?

Seona1973 · 01/06/2006 20:02

I think those baths are called 'tummy tubs' but have never used them. Re the Buzz - I went to look at it but it seemed awfully bulky and the wheels are huge so not good if you need to use the car a lot. I think the bugaboo's look weird (sorry!!)

I'm more looking along the lines of the lightweight silver cross combination pram/buggy or the chicco CT.01 which has a carry cot and car seat along with the buggy.

nowanearlyNicemum · 01/06/2006 21:09

hi everyone,
haven't been around much - spent 4 days in bed with the flu and am still feeling completely shattered. dp has just taken my place so now I have him to look after too... and aren't men USELESS when they're ill.

have spent ages reading the thread to catch up on all your news:
good idea to have a meet up but I'll have to leave you to it on this occasion. Whiffy, would love to meet up in Nice but I'm away on holiday from June 30th to July 17th.
glad to hear that all is going well in the scans/holidays/weight gain departments!!
welcome to dogmum, have you added your details to the stats list?
Rianna, FWIW, I prefer Francesca and Silvia from your list of names.
majormoo, enjoy Paris this weekend. will you be the only sober one at the hen do????
Mrs Blobby, I'm not quite sure what you mean by a 'bin-shaped' bath. I bought a bath seat for dd and she adored it. They lie right back in it and can splash about with arms and legs - it's great!!
baby is moving around loads, particularly in the evenings, it's just the best feeling!! sleeping positions are already becoming quite restricted though. I'm constantly waking up with pins and needles in my arms and hands from being in the 'wrong' position.
next scan is in a fortnight - we don't want to find out the sex though. I love surprises.
Right, off to bed now, dd keeps waking up at 6-6.30 at the mo, it's horrendous.

hana · 01/06/2006 21:31

hello to everyone, haven't been here for a while but hope everyone is ok and sleeping feeling well
baby now kicking and I get such pleasure out of it
scan is next week - quite tempted to find out sex but dh not so ??
off to have a read now

Swizzler · 02/06/2006 12:26

The stats thread is \link{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?rn=26460&topicid=2290&threadid=161549&redir=26460\here} (just added mine)

Swizzler · 02/06/2006 12:35

Re kicking, the baby seems to quieten down whenever OH is around - hope this effect lasts past the birth! No real cravings, only my diet seems to be much worse than before I was pg - more crap food (prob due ot laziness). Am trying to cut down on the sweet stuff as eating far too much of it. At least I can now fill up on the nice soft fruit in the shops.

MrsBlobby: how did your scan go?

Highlander · 02/06/2006 14:08

ah well, that's the end of hospital visits for a while Grin Grin had the 20week scan yesterday and nearly kissed the floor when I read 'discharge back to community' on my notes! It was actually amazing - couldn't believe how much detail there was. He yawned a lot, punched me, uncrossed his legs a few times - I'm not soft, but it was damnably cute! Placenta has moved well clear of the cervix, still a bit low but not an issue as I'm having another CS anyway. baby transverse, again not an issue. DS was tranverse then oblique and stayed that way.

Extrememly happy that everything is OK and I don't have to see anyone for 2 MONTHS _ YAHOOOOOOOOO!!!! Grin

totallyfloaty35 · 02/06/2006 16:16

just had scan,ITS ANOTHER GIRL{grin]it was fab,all measurements were dead on and then i had 4d scan,it was amazing, she was yawning and swallowing and waving, got about 30 pics and a dvd, cant stop smiling
