totally - you poor thing, I'd be fuming too. AngryAngryAngry
apart from the fact that he might miss the birth of no.3, you could probably do with a hand looking after nos.1 & 2 at nearly nine months pregnant!!! god, MEN! how long will he be away for? are you near relatives etc? does he REALLY HAVE TO GO????

Rianna · 20/05/2006 10:49

Totallyfloaty, you are due on the 13th?
my husband wanted to go away intil the 7th..it is not a good idea because even if baby is late, those days it happened so ofeten to me that i had to go into hospital, bleeding, or no movements etc.
hope he will change his mind.( as mine did. it is only no 4 but men are a bit slow )

totallyfloaty35 · 20/05/2006 18:30

yes due 13th,he will be away from august 9th-oct 4th.He says last 2 were 2wks late and i had to be induced so he thought it would be ok.Im sort of resigned to it now,he needs to get enough money together as he wants to be off work til Jan07 with me and the baby.My best mate is also my birth partner to and she has assured me she will be here for me...still if he misses it i will kill him!!

majormoo · 20/05/2006 19:02

totally it will be tough having him away for two whole months and he will be back pretty close to the birth-good that your friend is around to support you. BUT it will be really good having him around up til Jan. Make him pay for it when he is back and leave him with the kids while you go to hairdresser, pub etc!

totallyfloaty35 · 20/05/2006 22:16

Good idea major, wonder if he can master breast feeding too, that way i get to sleep through the nightWink
I hope everyone is enjoying this part of their pg,my bump is huge,i look like i swallowed a watermelon, but im feeling pretty good and i just hope it lasts.Bought loads of maternity clothes fron H & M,pretty cheap too,so im all set for summer...i just wish the gale force winds and torrential rain would stop then i might get to wear themGrin

it is very important taht you have a birthing parter/ someone to look after the children.
When discussing my husband going away, I said : ok, i have the midwife ( independent one, will stay with me) but of course I will need someone to look after teh children...his mum could come but then she would have to go/ come back again or stay from 38- 40- 41 wweks, like last time and get very fed up...then she doens't speak English, doesn't drive here.... so really i shoudl find an au-pair or mothere's help, if i manage to organise something he ' is allowed' to go, but it is not a nice idea having him on teh other side of the world if baby comes/ or if i have to go a few days into hospital as i tend to beeld a lot when i have my show...
i am abroad here and hospital is loneley, still haven't got real friends who would come and visit me.
was in H&M yesterday, Marble Arch, were you there? bought loads for the kids as well, tried a flowery dress on, coulnd't decide....yesterday evening, when i was back in London ( as the kids had ordered more form H&M and had to go out for a meal with DH anyway) they were already finished. From teh car I saw Topshop in Oxford street had really nice maternity clothes, much more then here in guildford, so will be back next week :-)
Just ordered a maternity swimsuit from Anita at Figleaves.com. , they are selling out fast, have a look!
bdw went to the only chinese restaurant in London with a michelin star, but it was terribly noisy, club style :(

ps tip for first time -mums: buy nursing bra's instead of maternity bra's.As your milk comes in your beast will be bigger, but after a while they will become smaller and you will be able to use the bra's your wearing now.
If you don't breastfeed...nothing lost, the Anita maternity-bra's are much the same as the nursing ones, just as comfy, same price.
Anita bra's are great, Elle MC Pherson (the one without lace) was great as i remember, and I have always used Bravado- bra's at night.
I wear DD/E so need good support.

Good afternoon ladies. My DH wont be away when babies due but he works on the underground here in London as a driver so Ill have to go through about 4 different offices so they can get hold of him underground.Hope this baby doesnt come too fast just in case I have it here! Anyway Ive just ordered a doppler machine off Ebay. You can play lullabys to the baby and record the heartbeat and send it by email. Mum just said hope Im not going to panic if I dont hear it every time though. I bet my 2 year old ds will enjoy singing down it too. Hes just learnt all the words to baa baa black sheep. That will be drummed into the baby till it arrives I expect.

Gingeme · 21/05/2006 14:27

Rianna whats the difference between nursing bras and maternity bras then? Ive always bought nursing bras when breast feeding!!

Rianna · 21/05/2006 16:34

Ginge, maybe I've got it wrong...you can buy bra's for pregancy, those won't open but will be soft cup, and there are nursing bra's which will open at the breast.Insetad of buying bra's for pregnancy, you are better of buying nursing bra's straight away.
The very honest lady from Mothernature told me this when i wanted to but a bra from her for pregancy...buy a nursing bra straight away!

Gingeme · 21/05/2006 17:58

Never thought of that. Always been too scared to buy nursing bras till right near the edd though. My Mothercare must be different to yours then the lady couldnt wait to sell me a maternity bra though she did say my cup size would probably stay the same till my 3rd trimester then Ill probably have to start putting it on the last hooks as my rib cage gets larger as the baby grows bigger. Oh well comfy as I am at the mo but thanks for the tip. xx

totallyfloaty35 · 21/05/2006 19:18

hi all,how is you? im frantically packing as we go away on tues,i did get a flight upgrade as dh insisted,so i get a nice peaceful 10 hr flight and he gets to entertain the kidsGrin
I was thinking that some of us should try and meet up,i know not all of us can..distance etc,but it might be nice.

good tip in the swimming costume rianna, have just bought one on figleaves. what a relief they ask the bra size. had thought i could get away with my bikini on holiday but then couldn't face the idea of big white tummy in front of all our friends. hope it arrives in time as off on thursday. still doesn't sort out the bikini waxing though sadly.

Gingeme · 21/05/2006 20:01

I bought a realy nice swimming cossy from Mothercare my last pregnancy in their sale. It still fits wonderfuly and is realy supportive without looking like something my Mum would wear! (Sorry Mum). Totaly you read my mind. I met up with a Mum on the Cow&Gate site just before Christmas and it turned out she only lived a couple of bus stops away. Were realy good mates now. Ill leave it to you to arrange then he he . xx

nowanearlyNicemum · 21/05/2006 22:11

marthahm
did you say you were off to Toulouse?
it's a great place for shopping (although I prefer it when I'm not pregnant!!)

maternity wear places that I can think of are:

Formes, pricey but generally loverly (although this season I found disappointing...just as well :)
Véronique Delachaux, again not cheap but some really lovely stuff - good quality too.

Kiabi - cheap and cheerful, just got a lovely chocolate brown dress there
Neuf Lune - not cheap and I'm not really a fan but don't know your tastes
Verbaudet have shops in France (not sure whether they do in UK) - also cheap and cheerful.
And that's about all I can think of right now.
Enjoy, the weather's scorching in the south at the mo :o

Gingeme · 22/05/2006 13:35

Just come back from having my Downs screening blood test. Was fantastic could turn up any time from 9.15-12.15 e got there at 11 and walked straight in and had it done. Cor how fast! My ds was watching and keeps poking the little plaster saying 'poor Mummy'. Just scrolled down to some of our past things we were talking about a few weeks ago. Does anyone still eat Hula Hoops? Amamzing how we all felt just a short time ago. Dreading on puking in the supermarket or on the way to work.Hope everyone is feeling a little more themselves. Well we had sex for the first time since becoming pregnant and all I can say is WOW Blush. And on that note Ill bid you all a good afternoon Grin xx

wuzzlefraggle · 22/05/2006 14:56

hiya ladies :) hope that everyone is well

totally, sorry to hear about your dh going away, lets hope that he doesnt miss it!

all seems to be going ok here...dp seems to think that my tummy should be bigger (i only have a little bump at the mo) but i keep trying to get it through to him that for 1st time mums, it takes a little longer for a really big bump to appear...men eh?

are we all enjoying big brother?? im addicted already lol

marthahm · 23/05/2006 09:11

thank you nowanearly, v. useful, can't wait to buy some clothes that fit and have great pit stops for delicious food and good coffee along the way, only hope dh doesn't pass out from boredom, i suppose i can always deposit him somewhere.
congratulations gingeme!
we're almost half way there now. anyone else looking at reusable nappies?

nowanearlyNicemum · 23/05/2006 09:18

I thought about reusable nappies briefly with dd but decided with a miniscule flat and limited washing and drying space that it was going to be too much bother -
this time round I haven't even considered it Blush

bensmum3 · 23/05/2006 10:34

Hi, sneaking in after watching for a while, wondering if wuzzlefraggle (as you mentioned small bump)or anyone else hasn't put on any weight yet ? I used reusable nappies for ds2 and am now an addict, they really are easy to use Smile

wuzzlefraggle · 23/05/2006 10:46

hi bensmum3 (welcome to the october thread!! :) )
yeah ive only got a small bump (but its enough to make my tops rise up and looks like a bump) and i dont seem to have put on any weight really...me and dp are putting it down to the fact that i was ill a lot in the first 3 months (which made me loose weight) and that my appetite isnt very big at all now, as well as the 20 mins of exercise i do a day...are you having the same thing???

wuzzlefraggle · 23/05/2006 10:48

oh, and regarding the nappies...i aint got a clue lol...disposables seem much more convienient, but i really dunno

bensmum3 · 23/05/2006 11:05

Yes,my weight is lower than pre-pregnancy, still being/feeling sick at times even now.
I've got lots of reusable nappy info if anyone wants any information on them.

wuzzlefraggle · 23/05/2006 11:12

have you got a visable bump bensmum3? (how far gone are you? im 18+1)
