Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Rianna · 03/05/2006 10:53

Ginge- I was embarrassed to go to the GP about trush, just bought the Lacatacyd from Boots, wash with that and it has cleared up.

nearly Nice- we have name trouble as weel with 4 nationalities in the family- finding a name that everyone pronounces easily is not easy.
But I' ve found a girls' name as in the end- although my husband doesn't want it because his brother has teh same name- too bad.
If it is a boy the name is going to be the same as my father and brother, as ds1 is named after my father inlaw.

Hello!! Enjoying the lovely sunny afternoon and going to make myself get out and go for a walk (managed to sneak home a bit early - a rare luxury!).

Met my midwife at 12 weeks and she was gobsmacked at how little my GP had given me/informed me. Seeing her for bloods etc at 16 weeks and then 20 week scan.....the local policy is to refuse to tell you the sex of your baby unless you pay £50!! Think they're sick of being sued for getting it wrong!! Mad, eh?!

Gemmitygem · 04/05/2006 07:09

Hi everyone,

Back from hols and interested to catch up with your news. Had scan in Belgium which showed it frantically pedalling with its legs, so looks healthy enough! Thought I saw a willy, doctor said she could tell us the sex if we wanted, which made me think she'd seen it too (DH says 'stop reading too much into it') which is probably right! Due date now 12 Oct. Hospital looked very clean and there were 4 midwives on duty, said they get 1-2 women in labour per day, so that sounded ok..

now back in Kazakhstan, it's very rainy but green. Told colleagues today; had to really; it's sticking out so much! Boss is away till Monday so will save the nerves up till then,

agree with martha and nowanearlyNice about the boys's names: can think of literally hundreds of girls', but for boys can only think of Barnaby, Jonathan, Gabriel, Samuel, Raphael, Rhodri, Robin, Caspar, Joel, Joseph, and that's about it! DH refuses to enter into the discussion in any detail till it's born, but I don't want to leave it that late!

What do you all think of Gwendolen? I love it but DH doesn't...

Gingeme · 04/05/2006 08:20

Good morning gemmitygem. The hospitals sound realy nice in Belgium. My name was going to be Gwendolen but my Mum called me Wendy instead. Think I prefer that. We are totaly stuck for boys names too. Wonder why its so hard to choose a boys name. I did that on my first scan. My first ds did a wee while the scan was going on and the sonographer said 'oh look hes doing a wee!'. Then looked at us in complete shock as if to say' did I realy say that out loud'. Oh well guess we got a little while to think of names yet. Probably change our minds on the 20 week scan cause hopefuly well be finding out the sex. Enjoy the sunshine ladies. Looks to be a nice day xx

Rianna · 04/05/2006 09:14

Hi Gemmity,
I know someone who used to live in Kazachstan, but is already a few years back in the Netherlands. She was pregnat there as well and has been to the local hospital for check-ups, told horror stories about a complete lack of privacy...with your legs in stirrups and people bassing by..oh well, we are dutch ;-)
about names.
I have been looking for names that are easy to pronounce. My first one is Isabella (now Izzy), this form has become really popular the last few years ( I had to spell it out very time, years ago) then Arianna. My son is named after granddad, Salvatore.
Next boy will be Max, after my dad.Too bad is it so popular..doesn't matter.
If it is a girl I like Francesca.
Or maybe Cristina.

Gemmitygem · 04/05/2006 09:52

agree about the antenatal care, Rianna; I haven't let them near me except to do an ultrasound!

Like Isabella and Francesca. There are so many nice ones for girls!

better do some work or I'll be in trouble..

nowanearlyNicemum · 04/05/2006 09:59

really pleased all went well for you in Belgium, gemmitygem. I LOVE the name Joseph for a boy but that's FIL's name and neither of us really want to name baby after family members. Perhaps we could go for Joe?

Swizzler · 04/05/2006 10:36

We're the opposite - no problems with a boy's name, but much discussion over girls' names. At least there's less choice for boys, plus I think it's best to go for something simple.

I like Joseph by the way, we are thinking of it for a middle name Smile

Gingeme · 04/05/2006 17:20

Good afternoon ladies. Phew its a hot one today. Makes you wonder how were all gonna get through the real summer months doesnt it? Think Ill spend most of it in a cool bath. By August we'll be around 7 months!! Good luck girls xxx

majormoo · 04/05/2006 17:46

hello all.
Gemmitygem-glad you had a good trip away. I like Gwendolyn-it is unusual too.
I don't think we will ever get round to agreeing to a boy's name!
still can't decide whether to find out the sex at the scan. At the moment I think I would rather wait but may change my mind tomorrow.

Now a nearly nice mum, sorry for getting your name wrong these past couple of months as have always read it as 'now an early nice mum!'

Rianna · 04/05/2006 21:03

Ladies I have just done the chinese calender -test on an italian site.it predicts I will have a boy.
I checked if it was right with my children- yes , three times right!
You have to type in your age at conception, and month of conception.
Does any of you know where to find this test on an Enlgish site? otherwise, give me age- month of conception and i'll check if it holds true for you as well.
Now I can't wait for the scan to see if the chinese were right.
funny though that you don't get the 20 weeks scan everywhere, Im surprised that there are so many diferent policies in the same country.

totallyfloaty35 · 04/05/2006 21:19

Hi Riana, can you do it for me,conceived in jan and im 35.
Dh has booked us a holiday to Jamaica,me and kids very excited, just not looking forward to the flight

Gingeme · 04/05/2006 21:31

Yes please Rianna. Concieved 23Jan and I was(still am)35. Thanks love x Smile

Gemmitygem · 05/05/2006 05:28

rianna, I did the chinese one but can't remember the site. but it's important to add 9 months to your age (to get the chinese age), unless the site does it for you? v confusing...

Mine says a boy.

But then, if it worked 100%, they wouldn't have so many unwanted girls in China, would they?

Think my brain's scrambled from it being Friday, so will go and do something useful!

Hope it's cooler in UK today (It's a nice 10-15 degrees here but I'll be paying later when it goes up to 35 in June)..

Rianna · 05/05/2006 06:57

Ginge and totally, you'll have boys.
I've found two enlgish sites , one sais something completely different ( and wrong in my case) the other one (www.tarotcanada.tripod something, can't find it know and my son is screamin) said the same as the italian site.

of course it is just a game but if they get it right this time i'm going to try out the chinese medicine shop here in town :-)

Gingeme · 05/05/2006 08:18

Thanks Rianna. Still gonna wait till I get medical proof at my 20 week scan. Im going to have acupuncture next month for my hayfever. My gp says I cant take any over counter medicines this summer so its worth a try. I love acupuncture. I had it to sort out my periods after having the depo(contraceptive) injection for about a year last year. I had a course last October and fell for this baby in January!! So Id recomend it to everybody. Bit expensuve though but well worth it. Anyway off to playgroup soon with my ds. Have a good day. xx

wuzzlefraggle · 05/05/2006 09:49

hello everyone.

gemmity, glad that you had a good trip :)

gingeme, is thrush a pregnancy side effect then?

we have manages to agree on baby names now, the first name and the middle name. if its a boy, we want Adam James and if its a girl we want Anna Elizabeth.took ages for us to sgree on them tho lol.

hope everyones well :)

nowanearlyNicemum · 05/05/2006 10:24

I can't believe you've got that sorted already wuzzlefraggle!! With dd we managed to decide on a girl's name just before I went into surgery after a 2-day labour and we hadn't even managed to agree on a boy's name by then. Just as well she was a she really!!

wuzzlefraggle · 05/05/2006 10:59

to be honest Im as shocked as you aer nowanearly lol. it took aaaaages to agree on them..dp was very difficult on the name front...he vito'd every name i was saying. but when i said those two, he liked them straight away..phheew! lol. so thats that sorted.

Gingeme · 05/05/2006 13:18

Good afternoon ladies. No wuzzlefraggle thrush can happen any time in your life pregnant or not. Lucky you if youve never had it. I usualy get it if ever I take anti biotics for anything and sometimes a few days just before my period starts. Its a yeast infection and I usualy have to use a pesary to clear it. I got one from my Gp and am pleased to say its almost cleared up now. Were still totaly stuck on a boys name. A friend of mines husband is called Tobias. Quite like that. Its different without being too far out.

Swizzler · 05/05/2006 13:26

You can also have fun with the names you COULD choose but won't cos you're too nice to your kids. What about (for boys):

Odo, Sholto, Ego, Ivo (anything ending with -o, basically) Wolfgang (we were tempted, but no), Cedric...

Apologies if anything had settled on Odo for a name Wink

totallyfloaty35 · 05/05/2006 14:48

Dh wants to call a girl Nico or Raven,he also likes the name Bree.Needless to say quite a few rows have been had

OP posts:
Rianna · 05/05/2006 15:01

we've decides the names long after children wee born- even with the boy, named after granddad, my dh managed to comilcate thins' isn't granddad's second name better- or shall we name him after your dad' etc etc.
What a pain. That's why I just told him the names now (Max or Francesca) and that's it.

Rianna · 05/05/2006 15:09

I've lost weight at the start, but am gaining rapidly now, over 4 kg :(

Also: I am 36 and in the end , have decided against an amnio. How many of you are over 35 and what have you decided?
