How'd you guys get into doing proof reading? Is it through an agency? I've wanted to do that for a while. Does sound handy to fit around babies.

YellowWellies · 15/10/2012 22:22

I should stress that I'll be proof reading environmental impact assessments of wind farms, wave arrays and other projects. Not just doing common or garden proofreading - more environmental consultancy and related to my qualifications / 10+ years experience in the industry. And also because my client is lovely and doesn't want me to lose touch. Basically it's the only bit of my current role I feel I'd be comfy doing with a baby as it can be done on my own time frame on a week by week basis and needn't be in office hours. I can't commit to writing an EIA chapter or doing stakeholder consultation but I can proof read draft and final deliverables.

Dixiebell · 15/10/2012 22:22

Same here grorgee. I keep thinking oh well DH will be able to take DS to playgroup.. But only for a few weeks! And I'm reducing his hours at the childminder after Xmas. What am I going to to with a 2 year old and a new baby all day on my own 3 days a week! With DS, when I was on mat leave we used to go to baby sensory, swimming, mum/baby coffee mornings... Can I do all that with a toddler too??!

MissMummy1 · 15/10/2012 22:23

I'm also not thinking past new year. If junior arrives on or around due date, dh will have a combination of paternity leave, normal leave and site closure resulting in him being home for 6 weeks at which point I'll be begging him to go back. BUT because he's closest to site, he's volunteered to be on call over christmas and new year incase there's any boat emergencies. There won't be, and he'll be paid handsomely for the fact we won't be able to go anywhere more than an hour away, but I'm like 'feck, don't leave me on my own with a baby!!!'

I think little short of putting him/her in a cage I'm going to have to treat junior like they're a puppy until they're 5. After 5 I think I'm fine!

Dixiebell · 15/10/2012 22:24

Ha, like the combination of posts firstly expressing my desire to be a proofreader, immediately followed by a load of typos...

YellowWellies · 15/10/2012 22:34

Haha Dixie I didn't spot em - don't tell my client!!! If you'd have got your EIA methodology wrong I'd have had you though (ahem).

Right nighty night all - am off to bed with Inspector Harry Hole (stop sniggering at the back he's a Norwegian detective with an unfortunate name from the Jo Nesbo novels), am doing two days in the office back to back this week and it's going to shatter me getting up tomo.

Chunkychicken · 15/10/2012 22:35

Good luck GT stay positive. It won't be too much longer now.

Thought labour was starting in the Chunky household last night... Woke up feeling hot & weird, my bump was rock hard for quite a long time & then I had a strange period-type backache, but only very briefly. Must have been BH but I didn't have any type of warm-ups like that with my DD.

Really hoping this baby is on time - DD was born at 39+3 so keep expecting to not go over by more than a day or 2 this time, although know I can well be disappointed!!

Can't quite get my head around having 2 kids. I keep looking forward to 'getting back to normal' physically and being able to play with DD properly, forgetting I'll be spending hours with a newborn clamped on a boob etc so unlikely to be anything resembling 'normal' then!!

Iheartpasties · 15/10/2012 23:58

I've woken up feeling shattered again. argh. I'm meeting amy friends sister for lunch today and at the moment just do not feel like it at all. Maybe I will feel better after a shower.

Titsalinabumsquash · 16/10/2012 02:55

Argh 2am can bog off I'm so over this whole pregnancy thing now!!! Sad

TheDetective · 16/10/2012 04:18

Awake :( hungry :( urghhhh.

Stupid night shifts!

DP on couch so can't even go downstairs!

Hope you're asleep now Tits!

TheDetective · 16/10/2012 04:45

I gave up and got food. Woke DP up accidentally :(

Hoping for another couple of hours now fingers crossed

Iheartpasties · 16/10/2012 05:25

awful waking up the night - sympathies to detective &tits

Iheartpasties · 16/10/2012 05:26

waking up in the night - esp if u cant nod off again.

TheDetective · 16/10/2012 06:26

Still up!

DP just pointed out to me that we could have a baby in less than 3 weeks Hmm. I pointed out to him that we could have a baby in less than a day. Or it could be nearly 5 weeks.

I wouldn't mind, but we had exactly the same conversation yesterday.

I had the same discussion with DS. He hasn't repeated the conversation! Does this mean DS is as bright as an adult, or DP less intelligent than a 10 year old!!

StuntNun · 16/10/2012 06:43

Detective I think it means your DP is in shock having just realised what's happening is actually real and not some far off future event!

My DH built all the lovely Ikea furniture so my two boys have a new look for their room. There's also less room for toys so I'm not sure what's going to happen there as they refuse to relinquish anything. I cleared out a load of 'baby' stuff e.g. jigsaws, Brio etc. but everything else is precious to them Hmm

I'm sleeping terribly too.

Far too hot, reflux that means I wake up to find that I am having a tiny little spew that I have to dash to the loo and spit out, bump uncomfortable, weeing constantly... I HATE IT. Sympathies to everyone else going through it.

Drs appointment yesterday, all well. He confirmed it is just near constant braxton hicks.

Now that we're "settled" and have a house lined up DH and I have agreed to see as much of Sydney as possible before DS comes. Off to the night noodle market tonight.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 16/10/2012 06:58

yw on a boring worky note that proof reading sounds quite interesting. (coming from someone who works in the energy industry)

Am wide awake, can't believe everyone is still away girls at their dads boys in NI and I still wake up at 6:00. But cosy and warm in my bed not going any where.

Baby is having a big shuffle so am hoping it is moving to be LOA, if not the reflexology should sort it out next week.

I am not worried about having another person in the house. I find after the intial sorting out feeding and getting into a rhythem babies are great and quite easy, then once they get to maybe 3 1/2 - 4 it's ok it's the toddler bit in between I find really hard. DS is lovely and smiley and loving but in every drawer, turns the oven on, climbs on the table, wants an unsuitable thing to play with (I.e the plug socket, the gas hob igniter thing, a screwdriver etc). Exhausting!

Am quite ready tohave this baby now. Am thinking of locating my hospital in the car where is everyone else's?

TheDetective · 16/10/2012 07:10

Stunt I thought he was a little more prepared than it seems! Obviously I was wrong!

Sophia you should find it easy locating the hospital in your car, especially with a sat nav Grin but your hospital bag on the other hand may be better in your house, especially as the colder nights draw in! Stuff could get cold/damp :(

I just measured bump. It has had such a big growth spurt in the last week and 3 days! Gone from 32cm at 36 weeks, to 35cm at 37+3. It no longer looks or feels small, quite the opposite really! Now wondering if it will turn out a 9lber after all!

Currently being thumped to the point of wincing. It's just so active still... Wonder what it is up to in there.....

Sophiathesnowfairy · 16/10/2012 07:11

I have put my birthplan for the midwives on Facebook for sharing and incase you notice I have forgotten anything major! I have tried to keep it quite succinct. So it actually gets read.

I am using hypnobirhing and homeopathy but I also realise that I may need something to take the edge off once it gets heated! So have asked for pethedine (had it for DD2) and managed ok and have had it for pain beforeso I know I cope with it alright.

I have been through and through my last birth which was going beautifully until I got to transition so it is this time I am trying to manage a little bit. I never had a debrief and wasn't offered one so I have had to do my own micro analysis on now it could be better!

Xx

TheDetective · 16/10/2012 07:12

36cm today at 37+3 not 35cm, silly sausage fingers!

Sophiathesnowfairy · 16/10/2012 07:13

Detective I have just early wet the bed laughing at your post! The scary thing is you knew exactly what I meant.

You are right, hadn't thought of that everything would be ice when I got it out. I will try and find a place near the front door for it.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 16/10/2012 07:15

You have had a massive spurt. I had my massive spurt quite early and then the baby grew to fill the bump I had made for it! Until the last two weeks I haven't appeared much bigger than I was at 20 weeks. Now it is just obscene!

TheDetective · 16/10/2012 07:16

I like how my pregnant fried brain still managed to figure out what you meant Grin

Sophiathesnowfairy · 16/10/2012 07:18

We are all on the same vibe I think. Grin is a shame they don't have an emoticon for madness!

TheDetective · 16/10/2012 07:21

I have my theories.

I have a retroverted uterus, so in it's non pregnant state it points towards my back. I suspect that although my uterus has been growing, it has remained slightly tilted towards the back, meaning my bump itself looked more compact.

I know that at 36 weeks with DS I suddenly went from not looking hugely pregnant, to ohmygod where did that bump come from! Lo and behold, the same has happened this time! Absolutely everyone I have seen regularly while pregnant have commented on it's sudden change!

I reckon I just pull them in towards my spine til it can't hold it no more!

Just my personal theory there!
