Thread 3; go!

Hello - finally joining this thread after lurking forever. I'm 40, and after an early MC last year, thought I would never get another BFP. It finally happened, after a nice holiday, while the GP was doing busy referring us for infertility investigations...

Congrats octane boys are great fun. Glad dp could make it and it sounds like he enjoyed it. Glad things are working out well.

eleda · 03/08/2012 22:17

Congrats octane!!

So, a lady garden question.... I have to have a section. Anyone else had a section before? Should I get a wax before hand or shave? I've heard if you don't do it yourself, the MW dry shaves you for the section cut!!

And back to the cake and chocolate conversation....I ate a whole big bag of red, white and blue m and m's today!! Doing my bit for the Olympics though!

MarasmeAbsolu · 03/08/2012 23:06

I would not wax - extra blood flow down there does heightened the pain!
Last time round the midwife did have to shave me - but by that point, I did not give a damn anymore...
[the joy of perspective!]

pmgkt · 04/08/2012 03:57

Just shave about an inch lower than natural top line. A good inch. The trouble will be that you can't see it so maybe dp can do it. You do lose all you inhibitions during this childbirth business!

Pascha · 04/08/2012 09:47

Is anyone else's body temperature noticeably higher than that of everybody around them? I'm wandering round in vests and sweating and throwing off the duvet at night where DH has long sleeved tops on and making cups of tea. Its about 17° here so not overwarm really.

Birdies · 04/08/2012 10:35

Haha sorry prickle didn't meant to scare you! It's the actual nu-nu - nothing too bad, can just go a bit swollen and slightly purple from what I remember! Returns to normal afterwards though so not a problem. I'd never have known if I hadn't got the mirror out to de-fuzz though!

Oh with the Aveeno I meant the almond oil moisturiser. Is there a coconut oil too? Wouldn't mind trying that if so.

Congrats octane!!!

I had an anterior placenta last time and it was about 23 weeks before I felt a kick. I think it might make it easier to sleep in the later weeks as the movements are softened.

Birdies · 04/08/2012 10:36

Ps pascha me too I'm boiling, esp at night. To do with more blood volume when pregnant or something.

Pascha · 04/08/2012 11:03

Thank goodness it's not just me!

My 7 year old nephew has decided today on names for the baby: JimBob or Hey Presto! for a boy or Girly for a girl Hmm.

happyhow · 04/08/2012 11:24

I'm hot too. Guess its just one of those pregnancy things we need to contend with...

I was a bit naughty this morning.... I was baking and I licked not only the spoon, but the bowl as well. Wink It was so good though!!!!!

BuntyCollocks · 04/08/2012 11:47

Me three, pascha. I'm constantly roasting. It's driving DH mad.

My swaddle wraps arrived today, as well as some little bits from next. So cute!

eleda · 04/08/2012 14:32

Thanks ladies - will mention that to DH, not sure how successful I'll be in my request!

And I'm either boiling or freezing. My normal temperature gauge seems to have gone out the window?

Lora1982 · 04/08/2012 16:50

first big buy done and dusted i got the mamas n papas Zoom pram n trolly. it looks really simple and easy so it fits my criteria Grin.....then i saw the icandy ooooooh arent they the Macs of the pram world very nice.

Has anyone used the free boots bag? i got my voucher but mum says they are tiny and hardly fit a thing in.

MamaMary · 04/08/2012 18:09

Lora I got the free boots changing bag last time and I still use it sometimes, 2 years on! It's been washed a few times obviously but is robust. It's plenty big enough - I thought it was a great freebie.

You've reminded me get my new one - I suppose I'll have to join the Boots Club again and claim it.

theboutiquemummy · 04/08/2012 22:21

I got a brilliant baby bag in TK Maxx should have been £60 I got it for £20 Wink

Anyone else getting silly off headachey sicky days ?

PricklyPickle · 04/08/2012 22:39

Am getting the odd headache and a some sicky feelings in the last few days.

Birdies purple? PURPLE! Really? Nobody. Told me about that one! This baby had better be a really good one.

Lora1982 · 04/08/2012 22:55

ive got the headaches and paracetamols crap. midwife says they dont like to give cocodamol cos it passes throughthe placenta... my friend was given it in early labour though so hmmm

although i like purple i prefer it to be on clothing.
this little detail is most definatly going to find its way onto my list. im being a good friend and listing all the crapiness ppl dont tell or warn about being up le duffness so my friends wont be shocked when its their turn.

knuckingfackered · 05/08/2012 10:43

Advice please.
Votes on best double barrel electric breast pump.
I remember it was mentioned on previous thread but cant find the info......

MarasmeAbsolu · 05/08/2012 11:36

medela swing?

Birdies · 05/08/2012 12:58

I'm pretty sure it was purple. Or maybe mauve. Not a colour I wanted though hahaha! You may think it could have just been me but I remember others at the time having a similar coloured nu nu! Maybe we can all report back on the colour situation in a few weeks lol!

Yeah it was Medela Swing. I only used a single pump though.

Someone recommended Lansinoh too - that's a life saver for sore nipples. And in case i forget, invest in or hire a mama tens machine (buy from Amazon) for labour - can't imagine what it would've been like without it. I guess you never know what's going to work for you though, but that, plus gas and air towards the end was ideal. Oh and some relaxing music and hypnobirthing breathing techniques. Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself though, still a long way to go so ignore me if it's way too early to think about all that!! And if you have a c-section you obv wouldn't use that stuff.

MamaMary · 05/08/2012 14:23

I used the mini medela single pump. www.amazon.co.uk/Medela-Single-Mini-Electric-Breastpump/dp/B000LP1G98 I exclusively breastfed for six months and expressed very regularly and I found it met my needs. I don't really see the need for double pumps tbh.

Not sure how the feeding will go this time as I'm told it's hard to find the time with a toddler in tow.

MarasmeAbsolu · 05/08/2012 18:30

yep, lansinoh a definite saver, especially combined with the breast shells (there was a time when even the friction agains the bra fabric would make me wince). Advantage of cups: it collects any breastmilk leakage.
It has saved me during many meetings when I could not just escape for 30 minutes of pumping.

MarasmeAbsolu · 05/08/2012 18:32

Now - I am still wearing my regular bras, but starting to overspill.
Last time round, I got some mothercare and M&S maternity bras - pretty much hated them by the end. Any recommendations for affordable, well fitted maternity bras?

Otherwise, when it comes to nursing bras, the Elle MCPherson and John Lewis ranges are lovely. Would definetly favour over Mothercare / M&S...

knuckingfackered · 05/08/2012 19:01

thanks mama n maras

anyone know of a double electric breast pump?
