Thread 3; go!

Hello - finally joining this thread after lurking forever. I'm 40, and after an early MC last year, thought I would never get another BFP. It finally happened, after a nice holiday, while the GP was doing busy referring us for infertility investigations...

How lovely! Shame about the code though.

Marasme nursing bras are fine to be used as maternity bras. The only difference is that they come with little clips where the cup joins the strap rather than being stitched in as a normal bra would.

newbie6 · 29/08/2012 18:23

Hello all,

Does anyone else have bad heartburn?? If so, can I take anything for it?

thanks

x

BuntyCollocks · 29/08/2012 18:46

newbie make friends with rennies :) gaviscon in all it's forms is rank.

OP posts:
mrsbugsywugsy · 29/08/2012 18:50

bunty thanks for updating the list.

prickly I agree with everyone else, it sounds like a UTI and you should definitely get it checked out

Pascha if it's only your band size which has gone up, why not just get some bra extenders? eg like these

I'm another one who doesn't trust M&S to measure me for bras, after they tried to tell me I was a 36C (I was actually a 32E).

I've gone up from a 32E to 34FF already, and I've bought bras from ebay because I can't really justify £30 for something I'll only wear for a few months. I'm still wearing underwired bras too, I bought one non-wired one from mothercare to sleep in and it's hideous, so I'm dreading having to wear them full-time.

newbie you can have Gaviscon I think

congratulations on all of the scans, mine still seems like ages away (17th Sept)

mrsbugsywugsy · 29/08/2012 18:51

x-posted with Bunty. Does Rennie work better, or just taste better?

Pascha · 29/08/2012 18:58

Ha! Thank you MrsBug you've just saved me a small fortune! That will last me til near the end of pregnancy I hope!

mrsbugsywugsy · 29/08/2012 19:05

glad to be of service Grin

Tugstonia · 29/08/2012 19:20

Hi ladies

I weighed myself this morning (pre-breakfast and post-poo) and I have put on 18lbs since I was weighed at my 12 week scan!!! Blush AAAAGGGHHH!!! I wasn't skinny before but neither was I fat, although I did a lot of exercise and now I do none. But Christ, that's a lot to put on at this stage isn't it??

Boob-wise I too am a devotee of Bravissimo - 34E - but all my bras were getting too tight so went to M&S to get a cheapy one and the lady insisted on measuring me and told me that I'm a 36D?? Eh? I think not.

Ok so a movements/feeling-the-baby question for you: for the last couple of days I've been feeling 'things' in my belly. Not quite gentle fluttery butterflies, more like something scraping my insides or flicking me from inside, and then pressure here and there for a few seconds that then goes away. It's not overly pleasant. Is this the baby and is it normal?!

knuckingfackered · 29/08/2012 19:23

thats defo the baby

ChutesTooNarrow · 29/08/2012 19:37

I have no intention of going near scales until about the baby's second birthday.

newbie I ended my last pregnancy swigging gaviscon type liquid out of the bottle every ten minutes, the heartburn was awful. My doctor will do me a prescription over the phone, might be worth a try? Also sleeping on lots of pillows, and raising the head end of the bed.

pascha I selfishly want ds to keep breastfeeding so he can sort out the hideous engorgement of the early weeks.

My nearest Bravissimo is Brighton, so hour and a half drive. Is it really worth it? Is there anywhere else similar people can recommend?

Lora1982 · 29/08/2012 20:14

im with u on that one chutes. scales are banned.... along with googling preggo ailments.

BuntyCollocks · 29/08/2012 20:28

mrsbugsy gaviscon is just rank! Also you can wear Underwires, and can even get underwired nursing bras. I am going solely down this route this time as I hated the non underwired with my ridiculously huge boobs (32hh pre pregnancy - they never shrank from ds :( )

OP posts:
l3mma · 29/08/2012 20:50

MarasmeAbsolu - nope didn't get measured just ordered online from nursingbra.co.uk or something like that. It is just a very soft bra no wires not cheap but will defo be buying a larger cup size for once Jelly Bean is here as very comfortable.

PricklyPickle · 29/08/2012 20:57

Pascha "Colostrum" - oh how I chuckled!

I think I must have the smallest boobs out of us all, I feel quite lacking. I'm rather proud of my puppies now reaching the enormous proportions of a 36C, I hope they don't shrivel away to nothing after I finish breastfeeding Confused

Thanks for those of you who told me to go to the GP. I've booked an appointment for tomorrow morning as I've had hurty wee for about 5/6 days now. NHS direct said go to the docs as well. I hope I don't come across as a crazy pregnant lady!

I also had rib pain for the first time last night, I thought I was falling apart until I logged on and had a read on here this morning.

octanegirl · 29/08/2012 21:42

Hi all - been reading everyone's posts. Rib pain is a new one, hopefully I won't be afflicted!
I've got one of the TFL "Baby on Board" badges for when I go to London and use the tube, but I was too embarrassed to wear it yesterday!
Other than that, I need to seriously start buying things or it's going to be too expensive all in one go. As this is DC1, I need EVERYTHING. Shall I throw a baby shower? Do people do that or is it just the crazy yanks?
I've literally bought absolutely nothing.....

octanegirl · 29/08/2012 21:43

Ps I literally AM still awaiting the wiggles. 21 weeks today and nada....

l3mma · 29/08/2012 21:48

octanegirl - I am 20 weeks on Friday and still waiting for a wiggle - the wait is driving me a lil nutty!!

newbie6 · 29/08/2012 22:09

Thanks all! I haven't felt movement either, am 19+ 2, have put on 5lbs so quite pleased but I guess I have lots of time to grow:) Scan is next Wed and cannot wait, i'm so impatient!

X

Bunny222 · 29/08/2012 22:40

Hi all. newbie also been getting heartburn, got a half litre bottle from the GP of their version of liquid Gaviscon, at least we get prescriptions free!

Any asthmatics out there? Mine has been under control for years, but lately has been so bad and wheezy am now taking my inhaler daily, esp at night. Anyone else has this?

Also concerned about boob growth- 38DD to 40G already. DH nearly wt hisself at the size of my bras :-(

Scan tomorrow, nervous and excited.

Pochemuchka · 29/08/2012 22:55

prickly good luck at the doc's tomorrow! As for being a 'crazy pregnant lady' that's par for the course Grin

Hi bunny good luck with your scan tomorrow!

Re: heartburn, I've had it terribly through both my last pregnancies and a wee bit this time and the best tablets I've found (i'm now a connoisseur) are some tesco own brand ones. They taste better than vile gaviscon and cheap too. I tore DP off a strip for getting them as they were own brand Blush but they were amazing: worked immediately and lasted all night.

Fingers crossed for no rib pain tonight as I have work - no doubt I'll be on here if I can't sleep!

l3mma · 29/08/2012 23:19

bunny222 - yup my asthma has been perfect for the last few years but of late is flaring n I am wheezing all the time, my inhailers making me puke so isnt doing much good :s x

salt1 · 30/08/2012 07:20

i agree re m&s and their measuring, though i think their bras are very well priced. i do my own measuring then try on loads to get the best fit. i also find that the style of the bra can slightly change the size i need. i have had very little growth in the bussom area (still a 36f), though i fear arse and thigh area is making up for it x

PricklyPickle · 30/08/2012 07:49

Severe case of baby brain here. I read the thread last night and thought pascha was suggesting colostrum as a baby name as it sounds sweet! Oh dear.

Pascha · 30/08/2012 08:41

ShockGrin Might suggest that to DH and see his response! We've got girls name nailed, boy is a little trickier but we're getting there. Baby is known exclusively as Widget at the moment to save us from revealing anything we may or may not know already...

My very mild asthma is more noticeable but I put that down to a recent cold and late hayfever. I have started using the steroid every day but its not troubling me except if I wake for a wee at night when I notice and cough and need the ventolin.

mrsbugsywugsy · 30/08/2012 09:09

Prickly how are you today?

Bunny my asthma has got noticeably worse, so I went to see the asthma nurse and she told me that it's really common in pregnancy, and advised me to double my dose of the preventer inhaler, which seems to have brought it back to normal.

I'm 18 and a bit weeks and have just started to feel fluttery movements (although I'm worried I'm imagining them), but no kicks as yet.
