Thread 3; go!

Hello - finally joining this thread after lurking forever. I'm 40, and after an early MC last year, thought I would never get another BFP. It finally happened, after a nice holiday, while the GP was doing busy referring us for infertility investigations...

Just back from my scan, and same as chutes I have to go back for another to get a better look at her heart. They're pretty confident she's a girl though :)

Salt, we decided on names pretty early on. They haven't changed yet but I'm not holding my breath! So, we're more than likely having a Nancy Scout :)

BuntyCollocks · 29/08/2012 14:55

Please don't go to Marks, ladies.

They are the absolute PITS for bra measuring. They still subscribe to the add 4 - 5" on myth.

Get to bravissimo. Your bra will feel tight, but it will fit (and you'll be amazed at the difference it will make to your shape!).

Congrats on the lovely scans, creepy and chutes - I had to go back with DS for his heart as well as he was a monkey, and nearly had the same with this little madam!

hahahaha will not touch m&s with a bargepole. I have no wish to be told my (accurate) measurements make me a 36c! I trust Bravissimo to measure me, and my own tapemeasure to replicate that measurement following their advice. Then I will be going to Debenhams as they do a nice wide range of small back/bigger cup bras.

Chutes I do! I can't easily squeeze it out anymore but DS feeds for around 25 minutes every morning and sometimes 5-10 minutes at naptime too. He may well be dry-nursing more but there is definitely milk as well because if he unlatches for any reason the milk is all over the nipple Smile

CreepyCrawly · 29/08/2012 15:08

Quick question regarding my notes too. It says
HC = 176mm Gestational Age 20w 1d
FL = 36mm Gestational Age 21w 3d

What do they mean? Is my baby measuring big/small or anything? I'm 20+3 today

Pascha · 29/08/2012 15:23

Look on the graph on your scan result. My scan was at 20+2 and the FL range is about 28 -38mm on mine and the HC range is about 160-190mm so it sounds like your numbers are normal.

I know babies all grow at their own rate after the placenta takes over at 14ish weeks so I wouldn't read anything much into variations like that. The sonographer would have said if anything was amiss.

bealos · 29/08/2012 15:25

@ creepycrawly - Nancy Scout - those names are on my shortlist! Isn't it funny that you don't really know what's going to be popular until you meet all the kids in nursery with the same names e.g. tons of Rubys!

godzookey · 29/08/2012 15:26

Hi Ladies,
First of all Eleda, my heart goes out to you am thinking of you x

Just catching up on all the posts - I got measured at M&S and it seemed to be OK, however just bought the size they recommended from FigLeaves as they've got quite a good sale on at the moment. Have gone from a 36C to a 38DD.

Getting quite excited about scan tomorrow - probably why i'm on here rather than getting on with some work!!

Is anyone else getting kinda hot flushes - had a really WIERD turn on the train yesterday - thank god i was sat down but felt suddenly really hot, eyes started to swim and i felt like i was going to be sick - i've never fainted in my life before and didn't yesterday but wonder if this is what it feels like if you're about to???

Luckily it didn't last long and I feel fine again today - very odd indeed!!!

SquealyB · 29/08/2012 15:31

Could not agree more re. M&S. In my experience they were dreadful. If you are on the busty side I have founds Bravissimo to be brilliant.

Great news on the scans.... and the upside of having to go back again is that you get to see your little one again!

We have decided on names:

Boy - Arden Peter Richard

Girl - Eden Katherine Janet

Creepy Nancy scout is very cute!

Not hot flushes or rib pain here (yet!). But sleeping is definitely getting a bit more uncomfortable.

CreepyCrawly · 29/08/2012 15:33

Isn't that funny bealos! You have good taste ;) Nancy is after my old next door neighbour who was like a grandmother to me growing up, she died when I was about 8. My husband has always said he'll call his daughter Scout, but she's a pretty great inspiration for a name, one of my all time favourite characters.

Thanks Pascha, seems its all fine :)

MrsMallard · 29/08/2012 15:34

I've just been catching up on posts too - so sorry to hear your news, eleda. My thoughts are with you. I hope you're being well looked after.

The swaddling discussion has got me very interested and, in searching for the ones already mentioned, I've come across aden + anais muslin swaddles, which look like they could be super-useful. (aden + anais) Has anyone used them before?

CreepyCrawly · 29/08/2012 15:38

Thanks squealy. Love your choices too :) Eden is beautiful.

And yes, that's a very good point. I've been lucky enough to have seen it three times so far. I had my first scan at 9wks because my doctor thought I was further on than I actually was

MarasmeAbsolu · 29/08/2012 15:44

dreadful rib pains here. They got me crippled last time, and started much much earlier this time.
Cannot face another 4 months of it :(

Off to look at bras which would "help" with the rib problem....

Lora1982 · 29/08/2012 15:50

im going bra shopping saturday i think. not sure wher i can go around here there only seems to be an m and s.

Our name choices so far are Dexter or Isaac. if its isaac though the initials will spell imp... not sur im happy with that yet or not :)

CreepyCrawly · 29/08/2012 15:55

I think Imp is cute Lora. One name combination we liked would've given the initials NOB!

CreepyCrawly · 29/08/2012 15:56

And I love both your choices. I'd have Isaac but my sister has a Zac, and Dexter was top of our list until our neighbour used it for her puppy. It doesn't really have the same appeal when it's screeched at all hours!

ChutesTooNarrow · 29/08/2012 16:27

Imp is adorable initials Lora!

I know m&s can be a bit crap but they are five minutes away and I am too lazy to go further afield. I do tend to measure myself first so if they do go down the add four or five inches route I can say that I don't think that applies any more and can I try x size.

Thanks pascha, I don't think my ds is even interested in dry nursing. I wonder if he will pick it up again when the baby is here. I need to reserve 'Adventures in Tandem Nursing' at the library and give that a read I think.

If we have a boy he will be called Linus or Sebastian, no idea if a girl.

Birdies · 29/08/2012 16:51

I just bought a bednest! Is it a bit sad to be so excited?!

pasha what am I gonna do with my time now lol?!

Good news re scans and all of your name choices sound lovely.

l3mma · 29/08/2012 16:53

I woudln't get measured in Marks as know they wont do anything that will vaguely fit me, I was a G/GG prior to pregnancy just today in the post I recieved the bravido silk skin thing I ordered in a H/I cup and it is so comfortable, hubby commented on how much better my boobs look in it :)

x

SpringFlowers · 29/08/2012 17:06

Hello Everyone, we got back from holiday late last night and we had our 20 week scan this afternoon. The baby is perfect and it was lovely to see it wriggling around. I have an anterior placenta which explains why the movements that I feel are so muted. Not very much in the way of big kicks yet and quite infrequent. We are going to have a surprise and we averted our eyes when the sonographer was looking at the legs. It suddenly seems so real now!

I only ever buy bras at Rigby and Peller - they are fantastic bra people. In my experience M&S are not very good at all. Lots of my friends have used Bravissimo too and have been really happy.

Hope everyone is well and is... um enjoying the rain? Lovely weather.

happyhow · 29/08/2012 17:10

13 I'm the same size. I don't think I've gone up really in the cup size but I think I need to sort the back out. Get paid on Friday so Saturday involves a trip to Bravissimo and H&M for maternity tights and leggings! I agree with what everyone else has said about Markies. I've come out of there crying before and gone somewhere else where I've been measured properly.

MarasmeAbsolu · 29/08/2012 17:33

L3mma - what is the bravido skin thingy? and where did you get measured [curious!]

Pascha · 29/08/2012 17:33

Birdies ShockGrin where from in the end?

Chutes My son's name is Sebastien. Good choice there. No idea if your DS would go back to it. Do you want him to? He might like the colostrum, its supposed to be very sweet.

Pascha · 29/08/2012 17:40

Now I'm on the Bravado site looking at the silk seamless nursing bra, looks good. I am also being drawn towards the Allure Underwire nursing bra except I see they hate me for being smaller than a 34 back. I might grow another 3 inches by the end of pregnancy but I suspect it will go back down again within weeks of the birth.

Birdies · 29/08/2012 17:52

pasha from NCT but discount code was out of date :(. My lovely mum and dad have bought it as their pressie to DD2 though :)

spring good news re scan.

Re boobage - I'm in a 36F but feel like I'm bursting out of it already. Is better than the saggy off-white thing I had before though.

MarasmeAbsolu · 29/08/2012 17:55

Are nursing bras OK to be used as maternity bras?
