Thread 3; go!

Hello - finally joining this thread after lurking forever. I'm 40, and after an early MC last year, thought I would never get another BFP. It finally happened, after a nice holiday, while the GP was doing busy referring us for infertility investigations...

I haven't put on any weight yet... I know I should be bragging about that but everyone talks about how much you should have put on by certain times. I can only assume that Baby is using up my plentiful supplies first!

I've just googled the Wallaboo wrap. I may have to treat Baby to it as they are super cute!! I'd never heard of them. It's a lot of money for a blanket but I like it!! Grin

BuntyCollocks · 28/08/2012 16:47

Birdies I think it is about right, but I was a fat fucker a lot heavier with DS, and given how I've been eating, I deserve to be again! Not really complaining! I am the same, though, not fat, but not thin before this pregnancy. I started off a stone down on when I had DS, so always a bonus!

Swaddle Pods
Swaddle Wraps

I swear they, coupled with the baby hammock, were what made my DS an excellent sleeper until the dreaded 4 month sleep regression.

Good luck tomorrow, creepy!

Thinking of you Eleda, such sad news.

I also have my scan tomorrow at 8.30am - I don't think we want to find out the sex though. Am looking forward to seeing baby again, it's been nice to feel lots of movement for a while now. You've reminded me to hunt out our swaddles and sleeping bags from the loft. DS is 2.2 and still in a sleeping bag Smile

Bunny222 · 28/08/2012 20:06

Have my scan Thursday. Good luck to those having scans this week. Am nervous and excited too. Is anyone else getting cramps in the middle of their bump? Not painful exactly, but a bit uncomfortable...

Birdies · 28/08/2012 21:15

Good luck cejay and bunny. bunny I've been getting faint cramps for a while - I think they are Braxton hicks practice contractions where my bump goes suddenly very firm and achey. Not sure if that's the same for you but my understanding is that a whole range of cramps and twinges are normal.

Bunny thanks for the recommendations. The swaddle wrap is the same as the thing I had for DD but couldn't work out how to use - I will practice before DD2! The pod looks great so I'm going to get one! And just read an amazon review on it that reminded me how they have that reflex thing waking them up - id totally forgotten about that!

MamaMary · 28/08/2012 21:22

Eleda, so sorry to hear about your loss.

Entering the swaddling discussion, for DD we just used a stretchy blanket and wrapped it very, very tight! It worked fine and DD seemed to love it. A blanket is old-fashioned but tbh as it was stretchy and had a bit of give I think it was more flexible than the wraps you buy which are only one size.

l3mma · 28/08/2012 21:25

BuntyCollocks - I am 29 not 33. x

PricklyPickle · 29/08/2012 07:49

Could i get your opinions please?

I think i might have a really mild urine infection. It hurts a bit at the end of my pee. I think it will probably go away on its own but my panicky dp thinks i should go to the gp. I don't want to be one of those people bothering the doctor at everything.

What do you reckon?

PricklyPickle · 29/08/2012 07:50

Oh and sorry for the tmi so early in the day Smile

salt1 · 29/08/2012 08:00

prickly you could try calling nhs direct if you dont want to try gp straight away x

Pochemuchka · 29/08/2012 08:25

prickly I'd call the surgery and ask for a phone appt if you don't want to go in as UTIs can be bad in pregnancy even when you don't think it is.
I left mine for a couple of days because I didn't want to go to the doctor and he scolded me when I got there Blush and said in very bad cases it can harm the baby.
He said when you're pregnant you're never wasting the doctor's time if something isn't right (very nice doctor!)

On another note has anyone been up with agonising rib pain?
Last night I just couldn't get comfy at all - bra, no bra, clothes, none, left side, right side even tried my back and sort of kneeling on my front! (I must've looked ridiculous!)
Had completely forgotten about this and am hoping it doesn't last.
Hope everyone else is doing ok!

SquealyB · 29/08/2012 08:39

Great news on the scans and good luck with upcoming scans. I have my appointment with consultant on Monday due to my BMI being slightly over 30 Blush. Not sure what to expect can anyone enlighten me?

Also interested in the notion of swaddling. This is DC1 so not sure what exactly to do. I was originally not going to swaddle as thought it would restrict baby's movements (I thrash about on my sleep and therefore could imagine nothing worse then being swaddled) and just use a sleeping bag from birth. Would love to hear more from experienced mums!

SquealyB · 29/08/2012 08:39

Ps on the uti definitely call your GP.

mummypud · 29/08/2012 09:00

morning ladies . anyone else measuring large for dates ? im huuuuge at 18 weeks , being a large lady its hard to tell whats bump but this starts high up and is hard. Now worried is excess fluid or something :(

Birdies · 29/08/2012 09:42

prickly book apmt, grab a pot from doctors receptionists and take a sample in with you. They will test it there and then, easy peasey. When pregnant they understand you going in for something seemingly minor. Not worth leaving it if it's an infection though.

mummy when larger the baby pushes fat up so you have a bump all over at first rather than just at the bottom. I would have thought it would be squishy rather than hard though but even if hard, can't think of anything that would be bad about that. Even excess fluid doesn't sound bad!

squealy newborns have a reflex where they do little jerky movements and wake themselves up unless nicely swaddled, so definitely worth wrapping them like a little pressie! I used just a blanket to wrap my DD which was fine but going to go with bunty's suggestion of a swaddle pod this time.

PS bunty thanks for doing such a good job on updating the list for us all!

Complicated24 · 29/08/2012 11:31

Is everyone now feeling baby kick? I haven't felt any kicks yet (am 21 weeks), but have got an anterior placenta and it is first baby so midwife said I might not feel anything til 22 weeks. I can feel butterflies in my tummy which I think is baby moving around, but can't wait to feel first kick. I have got a doppler and am checking heartbeat every night so know baby is fine, but just can't wait to feel that first kick and am not a patient person!!! I also haven't bought one thing yet so think I need to get a move on. I was too terrified to buy anything before 20 week scan. You all sound very organised so must get a move on!

theboutiquemummy · 29/08/2012 11:44

Googling swaddling and swaddle pods as we speak

Scans tomorrow anyone ?

Having braxton hicks already

Pascha · 29/08/2012 12:18

Oh I like those swaddle pods. Might have to think about those. I have 2 Go Swaddles left from last time which did the trick nicely until about 4-5 weeks old when DS got fed up with the restriction and we swapped to a sleeping bag. I have managed to swaddle nicely in a sheet or even a muslin when tiny though. Once you get the technique its simple.

I've been having braxton hicks for a couple of weeks, maybe a bit more. Not painful, just a little uncomfortable when all the muscles contract. It makes me want to wee more though, (squashed bladder already Sad)

No rib pain here, although I might have to concede I need a bigger bra. Currently still wearing my pre-pregnancy 30F bras but the band is much tighter now so I have just measured myself at 31under, 37over, which puts me in a 32DD or E. I appear to have gone up in band size but down in cup size. I can only put this down to still breastfeeding so cups are not increasing at all. Confused Hmm

Off I go underwear shopping Grin

Pascha · 29/08/2012 12:19

*Gro swaddles

pmgkt · 29/08/2012 12:54

Pascha I think if you go up a band size the cup does go down one, so in effect they just haven't grown but your chest/ribs have.

Pascha · 29/08/2012 13:00

Yeah but 30F should equate to 32E and I'm measuring nearer a DD now. I know I should just go and try some on really.

theboutiquemummy · 29/08/2012 13:29

Go to Marks you'll get a decent measure

ChutesTooNarrow · 29/08/2012 14:14

I need a trip to Marks for new bras, my chest is utterly ridiculous. I managed to get some bargain Hot Milk bras last time and they were great so I will order some more once I know my size.

Pasha (and any other breastfeeders?) have you still got milk? I have seemingly dried up, ds has a go every now and then but comes off in about three seconds complaining.

I had my twenty week scan yesterday. The little monkey was curled up and not wanting to move - despite lots of jumping - so I have to go back next week. They just need to get a better look at his/her heart but thankfully everything else seems ok. This is exactly what happened with ds, had to go again as he didn't cooperate!

salt1 · 29/08/2012 14:41

as anyone thought of names yet? x
