Hello - finally joining this thread after lurking forever. I'm 40, and after an early MC last year, thought I would never get another BFP. It finally happened, after a nice holiday, while the GP was doing busy referring us for infertility investigations...

Whoever is updating the thread, I am 29 n this is my 1st child and pregnancy. My 20 week (altho is actually 23 weeks) scan is September 13th x

Eleda I am so, so sorry. It was so brave of you to tell us. I have lost two babies and the unbelievably brave, strong women on Mumsnet helped me through them. You will go through so many emotions over the coming weeks/months. Don't bottle them up. Talk to someone: whether it's your family; friends; strong, kind, Mumsnet women or a Counsellor (when you feel ready for that: I wasn't ready for a few months). All our thoughts are with you. We will give our babies a big kiss from you and your son x

Anyone else confused about what to buy for the winter to keep your little one warm

boutique - Yes; I was wondering whether the wallaboo wrap that Pascha linked would be ok indoors - maybe OTT? but looks so nice!

I am already having the rib pains, which I had forgotten about. Basically when the bump pushes everything upward and your lower ribs out. Horrible at night, in any position. This is compounded by the lower bra band during the day. Just unbearable at night :( I am not sure how I will cope with >4 months of rib pains...

boutique weve been given a couple of too cute snow suits which will be good for out n about in the buggy (I guess) although they look mahoosive! In the house Im just going to layer up I think,luckily our new house is quite warm,our last rented house was baltic! Im going to use grow bags for bedtime with a long sleeved vest??sound ok?what tog would people recommend?
Hope ur all good,Im in rainy cornwall for my last wk of hols,eating a shit load of pastys,fudge n cream teas! Going to have to try n eat a bit better come Sept or Im going to be huge!lol!xxx

For winter you will need 2.5 tog, we found the 1 tog were useless for most times, I would sooner remove clothes layers then have no bag when its really hot. But def recommend sleeping bags

Allchik there is a brand called grobag so you aren't silly, that said don't get theirs or get them second hand as they are a lot more expensive and not that much better.

I'm still using grow bags for 1 year old DD but not sure I would for a newborn as maybe not snuggly enough - what does anyone else think? With DD for first month or two I just swaddled her so she was all cosy. But i didn't actually try a gro bag straight away so can't say it wouldn't have worked.

Any scans this week?

Birdies I also didn't use them for a month or so when he started unwrapping his swaddle blankets.

Just back from my scan, it's a girl! She was doing crazy acrobatics so didn't get very good pics, but she's got all the right bits in the right places and is growing well. Feels very odd to know! Getting some good kicks now too, hubby managed to feel one yesterday. Still only got a tiny bump though, but not worried about that now I know she's doing well.

How lovely tinyeyes! I have my scan tomorrow at 1.30, so excited but terrified at the same time.

boutique - having had a winter baby already (DS will be 2 in January), I can confidently say there's not that much you need for a winter baby as opposed to any other time of the year.

DD will be wearing vest, sleepsuit, cardigan, and hat. If it is chilly, socks under the babygro. Snowsuit for going out. Blanket for sitting in rocker, swaddle pods for sleeping up to 14lbs, then swaddle wraps. Blanket on top if it's really cold. I didn't have DS in a grobag until he was around 4 months or so.

My bump is underwhelming, especially for DC2, and despite eating absolute shit, I've only put on 10 lbs. Glad midwife is next monday, getting obsessed with my fundal height in case she's not growing [embarassed]

Bunty I've put on 8-10lbs too but I thought that was about right (hopes!). We're due about the same time though so good that we're the same! Mind you I wasn't thin to start with. Not fat, but not thin either. Hmm, am waffling!

What are swaddle pods vs swaddle wraps? Any tips for where to get them from? I've got one thing that I never worked out how to use last time so I might dig it out again. What about Morrk wraps or something, are they any good?
