Thread 3; go!

Hello - finally joining this thread after lurking forever. I'm 40, and after an early MC last year, thought I would never get another BFP. It finally happened, after a nice holiday, while the GP was doing busy referring us for infertility investigations...

School holidays are finished for us so back to work tomorrow...Sad Made some red velvet cupcakes tonight though to ease the pain of going back! Put up a pic on Facebook and have several staff looking forward to them (although not the going back...)

Good luck for the other scans!! GrinGrinGrin

theboutiquemummy · 19/08/2012 22:02

Good luck with the scans xox

MarasmeAbsolu · 20/08/2012 08:45

oups - I did already have my scan on the 14th.
I prob mixed things up on the list!

Squealy DH and I actually ended up with some version of GF - it worked for us given that I always had to keep a few toes in or the whole leg in work.
DH also has Asperger's so routines always work for us :) ...

SquealyB · 20/08/2012 08:52

Marasme I can definitely see how GF works for some people and a few of my friends raved about her book and the routine. I think everyone is so different that there is no one "style" of parenting that is universally suitable. In my case, I know that a rigid routine would not work for us but that definitely some form of a routine would be very helpful as I will need to go back to work within 8 months and I think a routine if sorts would be good for us and DC.

MarasmeAbsolu · 20/08/2012 09:23

Yes Squealy you can only wait to see what your baby will be like. It's all the big surpirse when it comes to their personalities I guess. DD was, I thought, very very easy. But I've seen my friends babies who were even more placid than her. On the other hand, my nephews...
We'll see what we get this time and act accordingly!

Trying to figure out how to deal with bedding at the mo - DD was a summer baby, this one will be born in the middle of winter, in a flat which is always very very cold. We did swaddling last time, and that was it. Not sure it will be enough in term of layers this time...

l3mma · 20/08/2012 10:11

feeling all blah this morning, just really emotional n grr! Want to curl up n cry.

allchik · 20/08/2012 10:41

Oh happy that is early!Do u work in an acadamy? Question for any teachers out there, when do u plan to start ur maternity leave?im due 6th jan n break up for xmas on 21st dec.Would love to work right through so my maternity cud start on t 6th rather than have to use holiday (although have a sneeky feeling bub may come at crimbo time) Do u think this is realistic? Then think im going to go bk in sept, but might 'start bk' in last wk of summer term so i can get sorted (n also get paid for summer hols!) cheeky?

13mma have a cry,slab of chocolate n a brew x x x

l3mma · 20/08/2012 10:50

i'm totally off chocolate the thought makes me feel yukka!! might make a cuppa though see if it helps at all x

CreepyCrawly · 20/08/2012 11:02

13mma I'm feeling exactly the same. I barely stopped crying at all yesterday and still feeling pretty shit today. And funnily enough, I'm off chocolate too. I can manage a few Malteasers in the last few days though. Hope you feel better soon.

Good luck with the scans today!

Tugstonia · 20/08/2012 11:38

Good luck to everyone with scans today!

13mma been feeling down in the dumps and irritable too, hope you perk up soon. Bloody hormones!

I have totally lost my appetite and felt really nauseous in the last few days, having not had a whiff of morning sickness or nausea up until now. I think it's because of the piles of antibiotics I'm taking, although apparently I don't have bacterial vaginosis after all, just a UTI, which is good?!

Gina Ford scares the crap out of me as well, although friends who have followed a version of her approach can't recommend it highly enough.

When does this fabled pregnancy bloom begin then?!

mrsbugsywugsy · 20/08/2012 12:31

Boutique I get all sorts of random twinges and pains, I think it is ligaments stretching and therefore normal. I'd still get checked out if you're worried though.

Tugs have you tried taking probiotics? They supposedly replace the 'good' bacteria in your stomach, which are killed off by the antibiotics - I wonder if that's why you are feeling nauseous?

I went swimming in the sea yesterday, it was lovely. I think I might have overdone the sun though as I have a splitting headache today. Oh well at least I have boosted my vitamin D levels Grin

Good luck to everyone with scans today.

l3mma · 20/08/2012 12:46

mrsbugsywugsy - oo swimming - I love swimming but non of my cossies fit at the moment

all who are having scans hope they go well :)

happyhow · 20/08/2012 13:37

allchik I'm due the 7th and doing exactly the same as you were thinking. We break up on the 20th and I'll go back in August when schools are back (I'm in Scotland so we're earlier). You shouldn't have to go back the week before the summer hols start to get paid for them - you accrue your hols when on mat leave so get paid for them regardless. Smile

knuckingfackered · 20/08/2012 13:45

wish I was off chocolate, n somebody save me from Doritos......whats with that I never touch em.

newbie6 · 20/08/2012 13:52

Hello all,

Hope everyone who has their scans soon get on well!

has anyone else had bad headaches?? I also sometimes get stitch like pains in my lower stomach and am assuming this is all very normal but sometimes worry its not? I also have an anterior placenta - no one at the hospital has told me this but I saw it on my notes so assume given the MW's and doctors haven't said anything to me - is this also quite normal??

I am 18 weeks tomorrow and don't think I have felt the baby move - again, is that normal?? Have my 20 week scan in 2 weeks and am counting the days - just want to see him again and make sure he is still okay in there :)

xx

DollFisher · 20/08/2012 15:34

Hello all did anyone have their scan today? Mine is tomorrow but have to wait til the afternoon to find out the sex!

Allchik I'm not a teacher but I planned to do the same as you. I'm due on 5 Jan and our building closes for Christmas on 21st December. Does anyone know if you can do that?

Am also off chocolate but this is a good thing as I am allergic to it anyway lol.

MamaMary · 20/08/2012 15:36

Newbie, is this your first baby? With my first I felt no movements until around 20 weeks. Nothing at all. Some people feel nothing till 22 weeks.

I read Gina Ford before i had DD and was all prepared to follow her routines, but then when she was born she gradually found her own routine anyway and I realised such a rigid timetable was totally unnecessary (for us). I don't think it works well with breastfeeding to be honest. With b-feeding you're supposed to 'feed on demand' and while I initially did not fancy doing this as I thought it implied constant feeding, it got easier and I thought was a much more flexible approach.

newbie6 · 20/08/2012 15:38

hi mamamary - thanks for your reply and yes, this is my first!

x

Tugstonia · 20/08/2012 15:51

newbie I'm 18+3 and have an anterior placenta and haven't felt any movements yet. Have been told by the lovely ladies on here that it's normal to feel them any time from 18 weeks to 24 weeks, and tends to be later if you have an anterior placenta because it acts as a little cushion between bubs and you. So nothing to worry about :)

My scan isn't til 14th Sept when I'll be 22 weeks, ages away! DP and I have been adamant about not finding out the sex but I am sooooo curious now!

Tugstonia · 20/08/2012 15:54

Thanks bugsy, been drinking those little Actimel yoghurt drinks which have probiotics in, and eating loads of normal live yoghurt to try to counteract the antibiotics so hopefully it will all balance out in the end.

octanegirl · 20/08/2012 16:03

I'm having a rubbish day and bad headaches too... Plus somehow put on 2kg in the course of a single weekend. How?...

BuntyCollocks · 20/08/2012 16:05

newbie there are a couple of us with anterior placentas - all normal! Also normal not to have felt movement. I've only started feeling 'proper' movement in the last couple of weeks, and I think I only know what it is because she is my second. It might be even later for you - I've heard up to 25+ weeks is normal for a first time mum with an anterior placenta! However, you'll go straight to kicks rather than feeling flutters, I think :)

Doll mines tomorrow afternoon too. il be shitting myself with worry all morning.

im going to go do a bit of nursery room painting in a min (maybe after a quick nap) to take my mind off it.

happyhow · 20/08/2012 17:42

My scan was ace!! Very bizarre to see it wriggling around and kicking and not feeling it though. I'm 20 weeks today and have a posterior placenta. Baby measuring exactly right for the dates too so that's good. It's got really long fingers which are definitely hubby's as I have child sized hands! Grin
