I can recommend Ikea for waterproof sheets. About £5, and last for ever. I have 6 as I use them for both girls. I also have a fitted cot one that cost £20.

MissMummy1 · 25/07/2012 18:31

X-post! Thanks valium too! And ouch ouch ouch - I'm just a wimp, god knows how I'll get through labour!!!

ValiumQueen · 25/07/2012 18:33

Companies know if they stick newborn on something they will sell tons as new parents will think they need them.

My nips are dull and boring and leak free.

Baby is making huge movements. I think he will be good at football.

ValiumQueen · 25/07/2012 18:35

I still remember the crunchy sound of the episiotomy. Pain was ok as I just wanted the little darling out, but the noise... I think I will always remember that Grin

izzybizzybuzzybees · 25/07/2012 19:34

Valium he had pulmonary fibrosis and his health had declined since march. He only told his sons on the tues that he was quite ill and that he was seeing transplant people on fri. He had said if he didn't get transplant he would only have a few months but ended up dying on the Friday of the appt :( he developed a chest infection and his lungs just couldn't cope.

How sad Sad poor DH. Thinking of you x

FatimaLovesBread · 25/07/2012 20:28

So sorry Izzy Thinking of you and your DH

LittleLolly · 25/07/2012 20:39

So sorry to hear your sad news izzy and hope your DH is as ok as can be.

Quick bargain alert for anyone who is planning to paint their nursery. B&Q have all dulux paint on offer at 2 for £20. Just been to get the paint I wanted which is supposed to be £20.98 a tin and I needed 2, so made a nice £22 saving! Glad i didnt buy it last week! The paint is dulux classics in 'quintessential blue' if anyone is interested Smile

FatimaLovesBread · 25/07/2012 20:41

Dh and I had the day off today.
We've managed to finish painting the nursery. It's looking nice and bright.
We had my consultant appointment then did a bit of shopping. I managed to get two Gro Company swaddle blankets for £5 each in TK Maxx!

Consultant appointment was ok, some good points and some not so good. Has left me with a few questions for my midwife next week. I think i'm going to draft my birth plan so I can write things out. I think I post a thread in pregnancy/childbirth about the issues but will post here.

Basically, they've booked me in for a growth scan at 32 weeks (not sure why an IVF pregnancy will grow any differently).
Good news is she says I can go to the birth centre to give birth Smile. I've said i'd like to go to the birth centre in the same hospital as the LDRP ward as if anything happens (or I want an epidural) I'll only have to go up two floors instead of being blue-lighted from the closer hospital to us. So that's good. Although looking in my notes she's put that the CLU is preferable and they'll reassess after the 32 week scan.

Bad news is she says I can't go beyond 40 weeks. If I haven't gone in to spontaneous labour by my due date i'll be booked in for an induction Sad
I'm not happy about this as I would like to avoid induction. That would also mean going to the CLU as I would have to be continuously monitored. I did say at that point that I don't want continuous monitoring.

So now I'm going to sit down and write a list of wants/don't wants. Also going to read up on induction and increased intervention and also expectant management.

In my head I just feel like induction will lead to days of pain and exhaustion and then forceps or EMCS. I'd rather have a planned ELCS at 40 weeks then that. So any positive stories of induction would be good.

Fingers crossed baby makes an appearance at 39 weeks Grin

I feel like I've got a big weight bearing down on my bits. It happens after sex (tmi) but I can't stand because it feels bruised!

Brockle · 25/07/2012 21:06

Horrible day tho totallypales in comparison to izzy, I'm so sorry.

New walk to work is excruciating, just outside of the station I was getting shooting pains down one leg and by the time I was almost to work my left leg just felt displaced. Allday with pain all around my hips and down my legs. Not helped by catching DS1's virus. Not sure how I can cope at work until October. A bath helped this evening a lot. I wonder if i can take my birthing ball to work with me and sit on that.

Any tips on coping? I have done the group physio and the tubigrip helps but not nearly enough.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 25/07/2012 22:00

izzy that is very sad news, am very sorry. It must be very hard for you and you DH at this time.

DH I too feel the weight bearing down on my bits, not sure about the after sex bit as that is few and far between at the mo, but if I squat, yes, squat, it feels like everything is going to fallout. I struggle to avoid squatting completely with three children and stiff summer saddle buckles. What's wrong with bloody Velcro. I try to get them onto the kitchen surface but it's not not always happening.

Such joy this afternoon when there was a cloud in the sky Grin

Passmethecrisps · 25/07/2012 22:04

So sorry to hear your news izzy. What a dreadful shock for your all.

Brockle I am sorry I have no advice - I hope someone else can help as it sounds awful.

We were given a massive bag of newborn clothes today. Amongst other things, in the bag was a Summer swaddle, a 2.5 tog grobag and several things I can only describe as looking like nighties. They are like baby grows but without legs. Does anyone know what they are? They are also some fluffy suits which will be for outside but also a fleece thing which seems thinner than the suits - like a fleece sleepsuit. Does that sound right?

There was also an Ella Roo wrap. Had a wee shot tying it up but hard to know how safe it will feel with a baby in. We could have tried the cat in it but I am not sure she was up for it really.

We are really lucky to have such a lot of stuff! The people who gave the stuff have a 6 month old so perfect timing for passing on things she has grown out of. Shame I have so little clue!!

Thechick · 25/07/2012 22:25

Izzy, sorry to hear your news. Hope your family are coping as much as can be.

Fatima I have to have a growth scan at 32 weeks and mine isn't an ivf baby, I think everyone who is giving birth at my hospital (kings) is encouraged to have one. I need to have a scan at 28 weeks also because I have a low hormone which they found out about at my 12 wk scan but didn't tell me about.

Elizadoesdolittle · 25/07/2012 22:54

So sorry to hear of your DH's father izzy. My DF died suddenly when I was pregnant with DD so can totally sympathise. My thoughts are with you.

Chunkychicken · 25/07/2012 23:04

Just as Chick says Fatima some hospitals are offering a routine 32wk scan, I think to confirm growth & check presentation & so on. I'm having one due to my placenta :)

kissyfur · 25/07/2012 23:14

Very sorry to hear your sad news izzy

I'm having a growth scan at 32 weeks too fatima mine is cos I've got hypothyroidism. I'm trying to look at it as just another chance to see my baby Smile

izzybizzybuzzybees · 25/07/2012 23:20

fatima I had an induction with DD as my blood pressure spiked. It was not what I had hoped for as I wanted a water birth but in the end was fine. I had pessary inserted on sun 8am and then another at 2pm and then another the following morning at 8am again. I had pains through the Sunday night that were pretty sore and in fact was pacing the ward til midwives ran me a bath at 3am! Was supposed to be checked at 2pm Mon but lots of emergencys so was checked at 6pm and I was 4-5cm dilated. I had a bath then went down to labour ward at 8pm, midwife attached my tens and we were left alone til 11pm cos of yet more emergencies! Waters were broken and I was attached to drip which I found the worst part! Then they kept increasing drip and I used gas and air and the boost button on my tens. Baby was born 5 hours after waters were ruptured, I refused pethidine and epidural but I know that's a personal choice. I had an episiotomy as she kept turtling! I had stayed quite mobile throughout and used birthing ball and was standing up a lot til i started to push and denied I was pushing, then they lay me down :( I had a clip on baby's head as well but that was fine too and also injured my coccyx but I have hyper mobility syndrome so that was why. All in all a good ish experience!

GTbaby · 26/07/2012 00:38

Good evening all. Scan went well. Confirmed its tam blue, he was quite happy showing us the bits but when it came too seeing the face he was very shy! Kept covered with legs n arms. After some shifting managed to get a look at a stunning lil man. Grin and he sucked on his hand n yawned for us. Will post pic on FB.

Just got bk from a party. Have another tomorrow. N then a wedding on Saturday. Followed by Sunday at sisters making baby shower invites Grin. We went with hungry caterpillar theme , n am going to do the nursery in the same theme. I love that book.
So glad it's summer break now as otherwise I would never cope with my social life!

Baby is kicking like loopy. His feet on the scan were right on my tummy.

DesperateHousewife21 · 26/07/2012 07:02

chick do you know which hormone they found was low?

I've got growth scans at 28, 32 and 36 weeks because of my low hormone. I'm looking forward to seeing my baby 3 more times before she's born though!

gardenpixies32 · 26/07/2012 07:45

I am scanned out, have had 6 scans so far and have another one at 28, 32, 34 & 36 weeks. Costing me a fortune on hospital parking.

ValiumQueen · 26/07/2012 07:53

I have a scan at 34 weeks because I am old and fat.

passme that is a lovely bundle! The nighties are wonderful. Very good for night time nappy changes as less poppas to cope with. I have a couple.

brockle can you be signed off? That sounds horrid. I would seriously consider finishing earlier than Oct. Can you work from home or get a lift or taxi or something? Would work help?

TitsalinaBumSquash · 26/07/2012 07:57

Good morning ladies :)

I have to wait in all day today for the HA to come and asses the mould in the house Hmm

I get the weight on my vagine quite a bit, it does feel like bruising! Glad I'm not the only one.

I'll be having 2 weekly hospital scan from 30 weeks and a private 3D scan at 30 weeks but mine is because I'm on Fragmin and I'm very hypermobile which can cause difficulty with presentation and growth of baby.

Little shrimp is wiggling like a champ again now, must have been napping yesterday. :)

Iheartpasties · 26/07/2012 08:35

valium you bought your baby cot sheet in 1987? am i reading that right? x

TitsalinaBumSquash · 26/07/2012 08:38

I was born in 1987. Grin
