Welcome Han!
I too have a bump developing, but think its definitely a high food to baby ratio. I dread to think how much weight I have gained already- the midwife will probably have a fit when she sees me at 18 weeks!

WestWinger · 14/05/2012 20:32

MummyHan - we have the same EDD! Yay!

I have a Vauxhall Zafira which is great space wise for dog, baby, pram, shopping etc but it drinks petrol. Would suggest a diesel version, but even so, not sure how efficient they are.

I am not 100% but am beginning to feel a bit better more often. I even cooked! I can begin to consider that there might be light at the end of the tunnel.......

GTbaby · 14/05/2012 22:24

Forgot to mention earlier (or rather it's playing on my mind so thought I would ask u) that I got my initial blood work test results. The MW said my iron was a little low, but nothing to worry about. She asked if I was taking vitamins n when I said no (because I keep puking them up) she just went 'its not important, don't worry'. But should I worry? She said they would test again at 28weeks and see.

Trying to decide if I should just start taking the vitamins again but worried I'll just get sick again Sad. But also thinking I was hardly eating at the time of that blood test so maybe that is y my iron is low. Grrr confused.

Thechick · 15/05/2012 08:52

I take my vits at night initially because they were causing my ms and I've just continued.

StuntNun · 15/05/2012 08:59

Dorothy Perkins have 25% off until Sunday, enter code DPVIPE at checkout. I have used this before to buy maternity clothes online then you can take anything that doesn't fit/suit back to any DP store for a refund.

Chunkychicken · 15/05/2012 08:59

Def recommend taking vits with your evening meal GTbaby especially as ms is usually diminishing by this point in the pg (and day I guess). Also, thought they always tested bloods at 28wks, or at least they did when I had my DD (& 36wks I think, but don't think I had that set...Confused) so it isn't unusual. Its also quite normal for pg women to have low iron - think of all the extra blood we're having to make.

Think baby brain has well and truly taken hold in the Chicken house... I woke up this morning & wondered why I felt a bit sick. I mean, I genuinely felt a bit confused why I would feel nauseous!!! Blush

TheDetective · 15/05/2012 09:39

Just to say, I am still here and reading everything! Got laptop issues!! It cuts out everytime I try and post so I lose everything. At the point where I can't be arsed trying now! And I hate posting on my phone as I am now, as random words and stuff creep in!

Little sorry to hear about your car. I wrote off my brand new car (had it 5 weeks) 2 years ago in the snow. Devastated was an understatement! But you know what, things happen for a reason. Turns out I'd of never been able to keep up with the repayments on it, due to a change in circumstances (ie. Dp moving in!!) so really, it was a blessing in disguise??! Maybe! I just got a cheaper car from bank of dad following...! Have you heard from the insurance company yet whether it was written off?

Yesterday I sprouted what can only be described as a bump. Now, it might be because I am backed up to the heavens with poo... And wind. Or it might be the burger I had for tea... Will have to check when I get dressed in a minute!

Oh and baby monster is belting my insides waaaaay more clearly than ever before! Normally I could only feel it when lay down and concentrating. Can feel it in every other position now! Hello baby!

Right, I will try and get back and post more. Just need to get a new laptop clearly!

StuntNun · 15/05/2012 10:04

GTbaby if you want to get more iron without resorting to vitamins then combine red meat, poultry or green leafy vegetables with a source of vitamin C to aid absorption. Steak, broccoli and a glass of orange juice would be ideal for an iron boost. If you're a veggie then legumes and pistachios are also high in iron. Spinach is bizarrely not great as it's difficult to absorb the iron I won't tell Popeye if you won't.

Evilwater · 15/05/2012 10:17

Detective I'm very jealous that you can feel baby, I can't feel a thing.
Little I'm sorry to read about your car, it must be very frustrating.

I'm too am filled with poo, I think jackets and beans for the next few days. I'd love to feel baby, I'm 17 weeks

horseylady · 15/05/2012 10:44

Hi all,

I've been AWOL from this thread for a while - I think I was trying to put my pg out of my mind a little until I had my 12 week scan (had a mmc diagnosed at my 12 wk scan last year so very paranoid until now!). Anyway, had my scan last week and all is well! Very happy and relieved so can start planning ahead now!

I've added my details to the list.

Is anyone else having a private scan to find out the gender?

WestWinger · 15/05/2012 12:35

Just found out MIL has cancer of the liver and spleen :-( She's a fair old age, but even so.

DH - our hospital tells you the gender at the 20 week scan, if baby doesn't get all shy and keep everything hidden! Have you got yours booked? If so, how exciting, and what's the date?

PetiteRaleuse · 15/05/2012 12:39

DesperateHousewife over here they tell you at th e20 week scan the gender - you have to be quick to warn them if you don't want to know.

I had a scan yesterday at 15w3 and he thinks it might be a girl but it is too soon to tell really. I don't think I could cope with not knowing - with DD we needed the 20 weeks to decide on the names....

I haven't felt any movement yet Envy but I did have a very pleasant dream the other night where I dreamt I could feel it moving :) Last time round these few weeks between me being able to feel DD move and everyone else being able to feel her move was my favourite time - it's so private and special.

PetiteRaleuse · 15/05/2012 12:40

WestWinger sorry to hear that - your DH must be finding it hard.

Tiago · 15/05/2012 12:43

DH our hospital tells you the gender still (at the 20 week scan). Evil I also feel nothing (though am only 15 weeks so its understandable). I also have zero bump - seriously, I really do not appear to be PG. I never thought I would be hoping to expand...

StuntNun · 15/05/2012 13:29

DH21 if I don't find out the gender at the 20 week scan (3 July) then I'm going to fork out for the BabyBond gender scan. I can't wait to find out plus I'm having problems thinking of names.

At my 1412 week scan the doctor warned me that my risk of having a Down's baby was 1:1100 and would I like to have an amniocentesis? I just laughed at him, my risk of having another autistic child is 1:5 and my risk of having another with ADHD is 1:4 so Down's just isn't in the worry picture.

I'm trying to plan my maternity leave but I don't know how to politely ask whether I have to repay my enhanced maternity pay if I decide not to go back. I'm already on bad terms with HR after I brought a grievance this year so I'm not sure what their terms are which is annoying.

OP posts:
TheDetective · 15/05/2012 13:32

Mine is on Sunday DH and I can't bloody wait! It's the only thing occupying my brain at the minute! To the detriment of everything else! Grin

I'll be 16+1

Passmethecrisps · 15/05/2012 13:33

Hello ladies,

Just swooping past to ask a wee question.

Today I have a nasty pain on my right hand side kind of under my ribs. It's pretty sharp. Hurts more when I move.

Probably just wind . . .

PetiteRaleuse · 15/05/2012 13:39

StuntNun The terms of maternity pay should be set out in the employee handbook of the company - if there isn't one ask HR for a detailed description of the maternity leave rights without explaining why. If they ask say you want to plan your leave / dates / budget etc.

StuntNun · 15/05/2012 13:49

Thanks Petite I have the maternity policy and it doesn't state that you have to pay back the enhanced maternity pay if you don't return to work but it does say they can amend the policy at any time so I could plan to hand in my notice while on maternity leave then find out they had changed the rules.

OP posts:
Chunkychicken · 15/05/2012 14:01

passme could be wind, indigestion or maybe you've tweaked a muscle slightly, especially if you have bloating/bump & are lifting. I had twinge the other day alternately between left & right all down my front, think because of the lifting & twisting with DD & the stretching going on in there. If it doesn't improve, or gets worse, you might want to call NHS direct/MW/GP, although its too high up to be appendix or anything.

Sorry to hear the news Westwinger that's hard. Never good to hear anyone is poorly, whether they're old/resigned to it/very likely to recover. You just don't want anyone to go through it.

I think our hospital says they may be able to tell you at the 20wk scan but its not a priority. Unless Grub isn't shy though & lets it all hang out, we don't want to know.

Keep feeling thuds & what can't be wind-related pops but I can't quite believe its movement as it seems so early, but enjoy feeling it anyway :)

Thought I was emerging from the ms wilderness but it came back full force yesterday, feeling queasy on and off all day again, whereas it had been slightly in the morning & evening. Didn't vom so its all good!! Grin

Finally, this time tomorrow I will hopefully be walking into the hospital with a nearly full bladder, trying to ignore that fact & not think about weeing, waiting impatiently for the scan!!

ValiumQueen · 15/05/2012 15:29

My Trust has a policy to not tell gender. I wonder if there is a way of appealing? Why should I have to pay out £80 to find out? Grr!

DH says no Gender scan until after 20 wk scan, so maybe I will be able to spy something myself. Well jealous Detective! I think mine is a boy - it looked a bit thug-like at the scan (DH is thug-like)

Just seen Midwife for 16wk appt. Took a while to find heartbeat, but all sounds good. BP fine. Have lost 3lb this week since I got back to choosing healthy options and not giving in to cravings for Big Macs. At this rate I will weigh less post delivery than at conception!

horseylady · 15/05/2012 16:20

Stunt I'd be surprised if they could hold you to an altered policy once on mat leave. I have to return for 12 weeks or pay back the additional.
