cock have you thought about booking the nuchal scan privately for around 12 weeks and then keep asking your midwife or wait for a cancellation and then if you get one you can cancel private scan usually with just 48 hours notice? Just worried for you if you fork out for a dating scan and then they still don't change the date meaning you might end up paying for two private scans?

pmgkt · 12/06/2012 20:02

i previously had a cs as i didnt dilate which runs in family history. and i have been told i will need to speak to a VBAC nurse and discuss it with her but if i strick to my guns that i will get one. and that is with a reason. I was also told that is i gave birth at a different hospital ( i live between 3 different one) they wouldnt question it, so maybe worth having a chat with your midwife again.

any reason you want a CS (if that is ok to ask)

Birdies · 12/06/2012 20:03

Ps brug I've been getting a bit dizzy and the odd heart palpitation which I think is hormone related. Would think the being short if breath is too - something to do with changes blood volume I think?!? Iron tablets might help if not already taking them (I think I read that somewhere but may have made it up!)

octane I may have missed you saying earlier but how come you'd like a CS if you don't mind me asking?

StormBird · 12/06/2012 20:22

Hi Ladies,

May I join you?

I'm 10+2 PG with DC2. Unplanned, very shocked, not yet got head round it.

My DS is only 10 months old so there will be a very small age gap.

This will be my 3rd PG. 1st PG back in 2010 ended in a Termination at 15 weeks for medical reasons. 2nd PG resulted in my beautiful baby boy being born in July 2011 but that PG had its ups and downs too. So we are very anxious about getting past the 12 weeks scan unscathed.

I've already had one scan back when I was just 7 weeks, this was to date the PG as I still had quite irrgular cycles after stopping breast feeding at christmas so we had no idea how far gone we were. This gave us a due date of the 6th Jan 2013.

The Nuchal is booked for the 29th June so I'm focusing on this date at the moment.

It's nice to see so many ladies on this thread. I look forward to getting to know you all and your stories.

Storm

SpringFlowers · 12/06/2012 20:56

Welcome Storm, congratulation! I hope you are feeling ok and are not too anxious.

I'm on my phone so can't check names properly, I think it was Cartoon who had a scan today? Sorry your scan wasn't quite what you were expecting. Could you be 5/6 weeks rather than what you thought? Would it fit with your bfp?

Hope everyone else is bearing up, the nausea here is just horrid and debilitating. I am really struggling and can't seem to overcome it at all.

SpringFlowers · 12/06/2012 20:58

Sorry also MummyPud, how are you this evening? Have you continues to bleed or just spot?

mummypud · 13/06/2012 06:33

Just spotring really at the moment but i definatly dont feel as sick now , is that normal. ? Really ill one day and then not too bad

happyhow · 13/06/2012 06:54

I think it's normal for it to go up and down. I'm on my first pregnancy with only tiredness as a symptom though so hopefully someone more qualified comes along soon... Wink Just try to remain positive if you can.

I'm 10 weeks tomorrow and off on a school trip for a week on Monday. My boss still hasn't done a risk assessment for me and it's an active trip. Angry Not impressed but going to try and insist it is done by the end of the week.

pmgkt · 13/06/2012 07:44

Yes happy makes sure its done, or can you print it off and complete it yourself then just go through it with him. What sort of activities

octanegirl · 13/06/2012 08:37

I want a c section for various reasons - 1) I find even having a smear test intensely degrading and humiliating - let alone the prospect of spending hours and hours exposed in front of strangers during labour. Just can't do it. 2) My friend who is a doctor "strongly recommends" I have one.

MarasmeAbsolu · 13/06/2012 10:42

Hi Octane - there are quite a few people in theatre for a C-section as well - as for labour, well, my experience was mostly of being left on my own.
Whichever decision you make, it may be worth speaking about your midwife about possible scenarios of what you can expect to happen in each situation (I don't mean birth plans, which in my mind are the biggest fallacy ever)?
I also found hypnobirthing helpful to take the edge off and feel more in control.

SquealyB · 13/06/2012 10:59

Hi everyone - hope you are all doing well, and not suffering too much from symptoms.

octane it is your body and therefore should be your choice. There is some info about the procedure for an elective c-section on the NHS Choices website:

www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/pages/caesarean-section.aspx#close

You should be able to insist on at least having an open dialogue re: elective c-section. My understanding from medical professionals I am friends with is that many countries now see an elective c-section as a viable alternative that may suit some women. I am not sure how I feel about my delivery yet but I would like to think that my opinion should matter Smile. Hope you manage to make some headway with your midwife team.

happyhow - totally understand your frustrations, your boss definitely needs to pull the finger out!

cock good news about the private scan. Well done DH that is exactly what credit cards are for (and emergency shoe purchases)

mrsbugsywugsy · 13/06/2012 11:27

Cartoon fingers crossed for you. At my first scan I was told embryo was too small and probably not going to make it, but a week later they could see a heartbeat and said I was just three days behind with my dates, which can make a huge difference to size in the early days.

Brugs how are you today? I am asthmatic and feel slightly more wheezy than usual, I'd put it down to hayfever though (as I have stopped my antihistamines).

mummypud hope you are ok. My symptoms come and go at the moment. My main one is tiredness. I left work early yesterday and went to bed. DP got home and 7 and found me fast asleep. He woke me up for dinner, I sat on the sofa for an hour, went back to bed and slept through till my alarm woke me up at 7am.

I have my scan date now so I've updated the list with Stormbird's stats and my scan date. I will be 12 weeks and 4 days - that's OK for all of the tests, isn't it?

I don't know what to put on the midwife's form about the birth. I have the choice of a large teaching hospital or a homebirth. Apparently the hospital regularly sends people away because they are full, to a hospital 30 miles away. I am terrified of this happening, especially as DP doesn't drive and presumably I won't be in any state to drive myself when in labour. So homebirth sounds like a good option, except I would be worried what would happen if there were any complications, plus I am a complete wuss when it comes to pain so would like the option of an epidural if it came to that.

I also have hayfever and have stopped medication but this feels more than just hayfever. Don't have asthma but have a slight tenancy to get respiratory infections and have been prescribed inhalers in the past.

My bleeding seems to have stopped so didn't go to EPU. I'm still thinking about it though and may tomorrow.

theboutiquemummy · 13/06/2012 12:44

Brugsmania oestrogen makes you swell which includes your nasal passages hence the lovely bunged up feeling Sad

Also it can give you a rash Sad which I've got harrumph x

mrsbugsywugsy · 13/06/2012 12:45

Brug you might as well go for the scan to set your mind at rest.

There's a bit of information about breathlessness here

theboutiquemummy · 13/06/2012 12:46

I take from these posts everyone else's symptoms come n go aswell

It worries me sometimes that some days are worse then others and it makes me anxious that the baby is ok x

SquealyB · 13/06/2012 12:55

theboutiquemummy -I am the same.

brug no harm in going for the scan, agree with mrsbugsy that it might put your mind at rest.

It is so reassuring to hear that symptoms seems to wax and wane for everyone. Mine do too, save for exhuastion which is my constant companion.

Have updated the list again as managed to enter my scan date wrong!

Welcome Stormbird

Mummypud, how are you feeling now? Hope the spotting eases off.

I feel more sick at night - anyone else? Oh, and also feel like death first thing in the morning.

StormBird · 13/06/2012 13:09

Hello everyone,

Thanks for adding me to the stats mrsbugsywugsy . I'll update my age at the end of this post.

Mummypud sending you lots of positive vibes. I hope your scan goes well tomorrow and it is a good outcome.

Brugs go and get checked out at the EPU, it will ease your mind. That is what they are there for afterall.

theboutiquemummmy I suffer terribly when pregnant with Sinusitis and constantly have a blocked nose and I never knew it could be down to the oestrogen so thanks for that.

Well my current symptoms are unbelievable tiredness, which is not helpful when working full time and having a 10 month old to look after, my boobs have expanded into ginormous globes and they are slightly tender and if they had an Olympic event for weeing I think I'd get gold.

I didn't find out til I was 6/7 weeks PG but boy are these first 12 weeks dragging does anyone else feel this way?? And I cannot concentrate on anything which is frustrating too.

In a bit Mumsnetters........x

Went for a scan at the epau this morning after having horrible stabbing pains low down on the left side and convinced myself it was ectopic, even though I had no bleeding. Think it was a bit of googling paranoia... Anyway had an internal scan with the dildo-cam and all was ok :) Saw the little blob with its heart beating like mad! Very cool. The doc said it was the right size for my dates (8+5). So for anyone having pains or bleeding (brugs) I'd say definitely go to the epau to get it checked out and put your mind at rest.
Hope everyone's doing ok x

cartoonface · 13/06/2012 16:19

tugs glad urs went well, but I wish I didn't have mine. Early scans are tricky can be inaccurate and easily show an inconclusive result at the first one.
I have a fairly big gestational sac but that is all no yolk sac or fetal pole. This is wot they would expect to see between 5 and 6 weeks and not to worry that the sac was quite big that mite not mean anything since the size ranges vary a lot. So she couldn't say better than between 5/6weeks. I had a bfp on May 15th a day before I expected my period. Although I had only had one cycle after mc so that could be incorrect. My first one came 30days after mc so assumed my next one would.
I don't think I could be less than 7wks. And then that would be the test being positive a wk before period so actually being only 3wks preg at the time. Surely hpt are not sensitive enough to pick up a pregnancy earlier than that.
I just have to hope I've got a slow developer. Everyones diff so why wouldnt that count in the womb

happyhow · 13/06/2012 16:26

I'm going to a PGL camp with 32 11yr olds! They're going to be doing watersports, zip wire, abseiling etc but I've been told I can take part in whatever I feel comfortable doing and opt out of activities I don't, which is good. The colleagues I'm going with don't know I'm pregnant though so I'll just need to be careful about not making it obvious, but not being stupid and taking risks at the same time!

Spoke to my head teacher and she's doing my risk assessment tomorrow. Smile

Birdies · 13/06/2012 16:50

tugs "dildo-cam" lol!!

cartoon definitely agree, why not have differences in the womb and hopefully you'll be reassured at your next scan.

happyhow sounds like a great trip, am a bit jealous! Though not sure I'd be up to the activities, feel pleased with myself even if I go for a walk!

Welcome to stormbird too.

mrsbugsywugsy · 13/06/2012 16:52

cartoon it sounds like you are in the same place I was a couple of weeks ago. My heart goes out to you because it was an awful time waiting. Mine seemed to have a bit of a growth spurt between the scans so fingers crossed yours will too.

Happy take care of yourself! I had a dilemma yesterday when someone asked me to help move some tables, I couldn't have refused without outing myself. A friend of mine pointed out that if this was my second or third then I would have to lift a toddler at this stage, so not to worry too much.
