From my online calculating, that puts the due date at Jan 20th, ish, 2013.

This will be my second, DS is currently 20 months old.

I'm so exciiiiiiiiiiited and I can't tell anyone yet! Also, I am looking for a new job and we're talking about buying a house. Crazy, moi?Grin

when you get your letter it tells you the risk chance and a high medium or low risk, so you know what they mean. My age risk was 1 :500, blood risk was 1:38624, low risk.

as i didnt have the nuchal scan i dont know if they offer the blood test as standard or just if the nuchal shows something or is inconclusive, best ask that when you get there.

cartoonface · 08/06/2012 21:49

Pmgkt I'm now confused, u had the blood test but not the nuchal?
Is anyone else struggling with major baby brain? I didn't think it was poss so early on! I'm literally confused by the simplest things and my memory is now rubbish I forget stuff really quick. I'm not usually this thick!

SpringFlowers · 08/06/2012 21:51

Different areas offer different tests for Downs. Here you are offered the nuchal scan which measures the thickness at the back of the baby's neck. You are also offered a blood test. The two results are combined to give an overall risk. Both of those tests have no risks to the baby. If your results come back as a high risk then there is the option of more invasive testing. Age is a factor but there is a risk for all pregnancies.

Hope everyone is well this evening, horrid nausea here.

I hope those who've had recent losses are all ok.

pmgkt · 08/06/2012 21:55

dont worry cartoon - i gets worse as you get further on and by the time its arrived and you add in sleep deprivation you cant do anything. I dont think mind ever recovered from last time to be honest. ha ha

My dates were out, so when i went for my 12 week scan, including nuchal, I was actually 16 weeks. They can only do nuchal scan between (i think) 11 and 14 weeks, so they had to do blood test instead.

cartoonface · 08/06/2012 22:00

Ah ok rite, I knew past a certain num of weeks they couldn't do the nuchal.

PricklyPickle · 08/06/2012 22:44

Ok thanks ladies for clarifying that, i think i get it now. cartoon i know what you mean about being freaked out by a percentage and getting all worked up over it. I'm pretty certain i'll have the tests though, there are so many things the doctors can't test for that i may as well have all the tests they can do - as long as they're safe. I figure i'll be worrying about lots of things for the next 7 months, so this is just one more.

This all feels a bit serious this evening. To change the subject a bit we've been trying to choose a working title for our bean, it is currently known as Talulah Banana.

Anyone else using any names for soon-to-be-bumps yet?

SquealyB · 09/06/2012 07:52

All helpful info so thanks for clarifying.

Our bump was originally Rio due place of conception BUT DH thought there was a risk this could stick and it reminded him of Rio Ferdinand! So baby is now Peanut. Couldn't keep calling the baby it!

Pascha · 09/06/2012 08:19

Morning everyone. DH is currently calling it the Widget or Kumquat. I can't bring myself to agree its really there til the scan in 10 days so I will be reserving nicknames for now.

Feeling very tired this morning. DS has a lovely cold which means he isn't feeding well - bit my boob in bed earlier Hmm. I'm currently on the sofa in PJs trying to wake up and Zingzillas is on the telly.

My patent nausea cure is chewing gum again. I have a big tub of wrigleys extra on the kitchen worktop and i'm getting through about 5 pieces a day. Gone off milk, gone off chocolate Shock, its all salty carbs and strong flavoured citrus fruit for me at the moment.

Hope everyone else is having a better start to the day.

salt1 · 09/06/2012 08:42

no pascha i have not, a knackered due to not sleeping as was worrying myself shitless about down syndrome x

mrsbugsywugsy · 09/06/2012 09:08

so sorry to hear about your loss littlemiss

I discussed the nuchal scan with DP and I think we will have it; although I'm not sure whether we'd go on for further tests if it came to that.

Pascha · 09/06/2012 09:13

Ah salt my philosophy is don't panic about stuff you can't control. Have you been booked in yet? Your maternity pack has a little booklet explaining all the scan and blood test stuff.

Knackered I can totally identify with. Although I have now had weetabix and tea and feel a bit brighter.

cartoonface · 09/06/2012 09:19

Mites cous cous and generally thought of as a he don't know why. Couscous just because we were on hol in morroco when we found out I was preg.
I'm more worried about having a sticky one this time than what disabilities/illnesses cous mite have once born. I'll deal with it if it comes to it with those things I think.
I had a lovely sleep and breakfast in bed sorry everyone who's had a rubbish start

salt1 · 09/06/2012 09:35

i've had a cry and feel a bit brighter x

kim222 · 09/06/2012 09:49

Going for my early scan today, excited but oh so nervous!!!

I choose not to have the downs test as And just my opinion I would not have termination and I'm a massive worrier!

I can't eat any fruit or veg and used to eat loads before, sat here trying to write my shopping list and it's all rubbish food, on the plus side I've never drank so much water in my life as totally gone off everything else, even tried de caf tea which angered the nausea!

COCKadoodledooo · 09/06/2012 10:19

Ours is Cuthbert. Dc1 was Pugh then dc2 Barney McGrew. Am not sure that we'll ever get to Dibble and Grub though!

Lora1982 · 09/06/2012 11:49

wooooo scan date arrived.... boooo its 28th which is a Thursday which means I have to rearrange it or tell work :-( for the list: Lora1982 age 30 dc1 eed 8/1/13 scan 28?/6/12

COCKadoodledooo · 09/06/2012 12:20

How long are people having to wait for scan dates to come through? Am 10+2, had my booking in over a week ago and have heard nowt. Am concerned it needs to be soon because I've asked for nuchal screening this time.

happyhow · 09/06/2012 12:27

We don't have any name for it yet. DH is refusing to get excited until we've had the scan and he knows everything is ok. He got freaked out last night when he rubbed my tummy and I said it wasn't 'tummy' anymore, it was 'baby'! Grin
We'll be having all the tests I think. I'd rather be informed than have a surprise that could be difficult to cope with. DH is the same.

pmgkt · 09/06/2012 13:09

Cockadoo why don't you ring the scanning department, although with bank holiday I think I might wait a few more days.

happyhow · 09/06/2012 13:22

We don't find out up here until a few days before. Bit of a bummer but it's still exciting!

Have added myself to the list.

Has anyone come across the pregnancy horror stories yet ! I can't understand why other women take such great delight in scaring the shit out of you.

its a silly thing really but when I brought the first baby outfit my SIL said well you'd best take that back and change it theres no way you are having a baby 7lbs or under ! I honestly didn't look at that and who cares what it weighs I just wanted to buy something for my baby. I tried to make a joke out of it like oh i was being optimistic and all's i got was a snort !

If its like this now who knows what its going to be like nearer the time i can't stand all this competitive crap

Anyone else ?

pmgkt · 09/06/2012 15:55

As you say boutique that is now, it gets worse. Everyone and I mean everyone feels they can comment or share thier experience. I was overdue last time and a woman walking around a shop came up to me and said ' make sure you shave your pubes as if you end up with a section they will do it and they aren't careful and use blunt razors' how random. She wasn't qualified in any way, or knew anything else about me. Also being overdue how did she think I was going to see to do it, or that I would care less in the end.

Birdies · 09/06/2012 17:35

pmgkt that's awful! I can't beat that comment, I just got lots of "you don't look pregnant" which is one of the worst things to say as then you get all paranoid that baby isn't growing etc. Already had the "was it planned" question. Firstly, my baby isn't an 'it' and secondly, it's none of your bloody business but yes of course the baby was 'planned'.

Birdies · 09/06/2012 17:37

Oh and the worst comment was when staying at a b&b with DH. I asked for my eggs to be well cooked as I was pregnant and the b&b owner said "oh, I just thought you were fat". Hmm, I think it was probably a joke although i wasnt quite sure, but not really what you want to hear when feeling frumpy!

BuntyCollocks · 09/06/2012 17:43

Oh. My god. We have arrived on holiday (gorgeous gorgeous, so glad to escape the horrid weather) and I put on one of my clingy maxis ... The bump has landed Shock

I know you show quicker second time around but honest to fuck. I can't even claim cake baby. It is obviously a bump and given I've lost weight since becoming pregnant (thanks, all day sickness), I look obviously pregnant and haggard. Glad scan is the week we're home, there is no hiding this now.
