Well, I am still waiting :(

Had no twinges, NOTHING last night, after two nights of period pains I was hoping things would crank up a notch last night and baby might be born today!

I KNEW the sweep wouldn't work! Have another one booked for tomorrow, but hold out no hope. Am now convinced this baby will stay in until induction day - I have to go in Wednesday night, so I'm guessing LO would be born Thursday. This SOOOO wasn't my plan, and do different from my other three births that were all so spontaneous and easy!

DH's mum comes to stay for a week in about an hour, to meet LO. As baby hasn't been born DH will carry on going to work (I am determined he takes his 2 weeks leave AFTER LO is born, and doesn't use any up to be with his mother before baby arrives) , leaving me to entertain her.
I've only met her twice (she lives in Africa), and feeling tired and unsociable as I am, am fed up that I've got to look after her. Just want to be left in peace!!! Have said this to DH this morning and have now offended him too and he's gone to pick her up in a mood with me.

Grrrrrrrrr, why hasn't baby come!

Sorry for the whining post!!

WhenDoISleep · 29/04/2012 10:40

you have my sympathy banana. Still waiting here too. I'm generally feeling fine, but would just like it to be over now iyswim.

I completely understand your not wanting your DH to waste his paternity leave prior to the birth - is there any chance he can take a couple of days off to spend with his mother? Is MIL likely to be any help with your elder DC/around the house or will she expect to be entertained and waited on? At the very least I would expect that DH would be taking his DM (and DC if appropriate) out in the evenings to give you some peace.

Hope your sweep tomorrow works - I'm not due for another until Wednesday and have had to ask DH to work from home as I really don't fancy having DS1 for an audience for that, given the only appt I could get is early morning (every other one has been when he is at pre-school).

Bananna1 · 29/04/2012 11:14

Do sweeps actually work I wonder?? But will definitely have another one to give it a go, even though it really hurt. No - I wouldn't want my toddler watching that either, so definitely rope in DH's help!!

Unfortunately DH was only taking 2 days Pat leave and the rest annual leave, as the difference in pay is huge. And that's all the A/l he has left, as his dad is coming to visit from Barbados in June, and he needs to save a week's a/leave for that visit. I guess we could stretch to another day's PL so he could at least take one day off before induction day to be with his mum.

My other DC are all quite old and luckily mainly look after themselves, so apart from cooking dinner, there's not a lot for MIL to do. Builders are still here so any housework is a waste of time - the place is dusty and full of rubbish just hours after they start work in the morning.

I sound so moany. This just isn't what I had in mind for when DH and I had our little baby. :(

WhenDoISleep · 29/04/2012 11:41

Moan away, I say. Pregnancy is a long hard slog and then you have a newborn to get to know and with everything else that is happening re the building work in your house, I think that you are entitled to have a moan.

I forgot your DC's were older - that's great, they can get to know and entertain Granny while you rest Wink.

I think sweeps do work - but only if your body is about to labour naturally anyway. I had one with DS1 and started with cramps immediately and went into labour overnight. The one I had last week was more of a try it and see if anything happens - plus I was able to get an idea if things were progressing in the right direction, given my body doesn't seem to give any other signs (no BH, etc.)

Bananna1 · 29/04/2012 12:15

So what did the mw say about the condition of your cervix last week?

Mine said mine was thin and central and about 1-2cm dilated. Didn't know if this was good or not??!! I did have cramps afterwards and that night, but they faded to nothing and then had absolutely nothing last night. Can only presume my body is not ready to go into labour.

WhenDoISleep · 30/04/2012 08:45

banana cervix was thining, still slightly posterior but nearly central and 1cm dilated. Babies head could be felt and was nicely positioned over the cervix.

Yours sounds positive - the cramps should have been helping it thin and dilate more since. Hopefully another sweep tomorrow will kick start things properly for you - fingers crossed.

Bananna1 · 30/04/2012 11:36

Ahhh yes whendoIsleep, she felt the baby's head too and jiggled her finger so I could feel it!!

I've been up since 1am with mild but incredibly regular contractions, 5/10/15 minutes apart. They stopped about an hour ago!!! I really do hope the sweep this afternoon works, not sure how many more nights without sleep I can take :(

Jellybellyrbest · 30/04/2012 12:00

Ladies, I went into labour the night I had my sweep so there's hope! My cervix was central, 1-2cm, still not completely thinned & baby was 3/5 engaged. I also got my DH to do his bit that day (IYSWIM) & walked 3miles that evening. Went into labour at 00.30. I was 40+5. good luck & hope your sweeps work this time!!

notso · 30/04/2012 13:16

Hello all, just popped in to report I had a baby boy, Seth on the 17th April, DH delivered him after just 40 mins in active labour, will post the full story when I hae the chance!
After the predictions of a 10lb baby he was only 8lb 4oz, my second smallest baby yet Confused

Bit of a difficult start with me going into shock, and him being jaundiced and having very low blood sugar. He spent a little time in SCBU and then on childrens ward as he lost a little too much weight, however he is home and feeding is going well but s-l-o-w!

Bearcrumble · 30/04/2012 14:24

Congrats, Notso! What a fast labour! Well done you and your DH.

Sorry about the rocky start, but so glad to hear that Seth (lovely name) is home and feeding.

Good luck, Bananna hope it won't be too long for you.

newmummyvicky · 30/04/2012 14:28

Hi ive not been on for a while, busy with baby Lyra- cant believe she is a month old already. Congrats to the new mums ive missed, there cant be many left still waiting?

Seems like ages ago i gave birth!
Body seem back to normal , bleeding has stoped. Ive lost a stone a half in weight i think its all the breast feeding, ive been staving and eating loads, i must be burning alot of callories.....

Bananna1 · 30/04/2012 18:38

Congrats Notso, great to hear from you and that all is well with you and baby Seth after your rushed introduction :) How is life with 4 DC?!

Well I'm booked to go to be induced at 8pm Wednesday if nothing has happened before then. We are fast running out of April, so my April baby is soon to turn into a May one!!

My sweep this afternoon showed that I'm 2-3 cm dilated and she could easily stretch it to 4cm. Baby's head coming down was making the membranes bulge and she said she was so tempted to rupture them but knew she wasn't allowed :(

She also said she thought I was too tense to allow labour to start because of the builders in the house (I was having contractions in my bedroom with them working outside the bedroom door talking about holidays. Was a bit off-putting!). SO they have been banished for the foreseeable future whilst we try to have this baby!

Had a few contractions after seeing the MW but they seem to have died down. Bouncing on my ball so hopefully they'll start to come back tonight.

Frighteningly she said it felt like my baby had a big head!!! OUCH OUCH OUCH Shock!!!

Scoobysue · 30/04/2012 19:42

Congratulations to all those new mums I've missed out on over the last few weeks!!

Now that I've got a few minutes to myself I can report the birth of my gorgeous son, Isaac James, born 18th April weighing in at 6lbs 13oz.

The birth was stressful for both of us with constant monitoring as his heartrate kept dropping and was generally not right. They had to do 7 fetal blood tests - really not pleasant - and his levels kept dropping.

He was born with forceps assistance as they were worried he wouldn't cope with the time it would take to give birth naturally.

I lost 850ml of blood and didn't get to hold him until 1hr50mins later as they put me back together and the nausea and fainting subsided. They then rushed him to neo-natal as his breathing, bloods and temperature were worrying them.

He's just beautiful and we achieved our aim of both me and him being safe and well, but I can't think back to the birth without just wanting to cry my heart out :( I'm sure it will pass eventually but for now I concentrate on the here and now :)

Good luck to all you pending mums. Regardless of how you get there it really is worth it :)

WhenDoISleep · 30/04/2012 20:24

congratulations notso

banana sounds positive re sweep - hopefully getting the builders out of the way lets your body relax enough to do it's thing.

Was hopeful things might be starting today - thought that my waters might have started leaking so ended up going to the hospital to be checked. Turned out to be nothing though. Had a VE and still only 1cm dilated, but the exam certainly felt easier. Had some mild tightenings etc since, but nothing that I would say is a contraction. Going to go to bed in a little while as I am so tired and really not sleeping well at all - don't fancy labouring when already exhausted.

justhayley · 30/04/2012 23:54

Congratulations sue really really lovely name. Sorry you had such a horrible labour, but your right, try and focus on the end result, the journeys really don't matter if ur baby and of course yourself ends up well. My little one had to go to SCBU for a bit as well for similar reasons, it's horrible when they start off poorly Sad my labour was a great one so I felt a bit cheated having to stay in for 4 days!

Hope you recover quickly & the little one keeps getting stronger & stronger.

Xxx

Nordicmom · 01/05/2012 00:30

Congrats Notso and scoobysue

Bananna1 · 01/05/2012 12:44

Congratulations Scoobysue, glad you are both home and well now.

Well, still no baby for me, so induction looking more and more likely. Do any of you know if you can still labour and birth in water if you're induced?

WhenDoISleep · 01/05/2012 13:35

banana its frustrating this waiting business.

I have heard that it might be possible in some hospitals, if they go directly for ARM - so just the equivalent of your waters going naturally to kickstart things. I have a MW appt tomorrow, where I'm guessing that induction plans for me will be raised and this is one of the things that I am going to ask.

sue congratulation, lovely name.

Thaleia · 01/05/2012 22:50

We have got a May one: Raphael was born today, quite a (big) surprise at 3990gr and 59cm.

CS went fine but it was scary nonetheless ,,, will update later,

LaTristesse · 02/05/2012 07:05

Well done Thaleia, congratulations! Hope your recovery is easy...

Nordicmom · 02/05/2012 08:13

Congrats Thaleia , get well soon !

WhenDoISleep · 02/05/2012 08:17

thaleia congratulations, glad things went ok for you.

Looks like it is just banana and I left, unless anything happened overnight.

Off to the MW in a minute for my 41 week check and a sweep - going to ask her to make it a really hard one to see if it will get things going. Also expecting the dreaded induction talk - not happy to schedule anything until I have hit 42 weeks and even then I would really prefer expectant mgmt if everything is ok with the baby/placenta.

lizmarshmallow · 02/05/2012 13:27

I've mainly been lurking the last few weeks but just checking in to say I had Caroline Mary yesterday at 1.35pm after a bit of a long labour. Weighed in at 6lbs and 14.5oz and seems very content. Just sitting in the hospital waiting on the Dr coming round to discharge us!

Congrats to everyone else who's babies have made an appearance and to those who haven't yet, it's coming Grin!

WhenDoISleep · 02/05/2012 14:29

lizmarshmallow congratulations and what a lovely classic name

Bananna1 · 02/05/2012 19:48

Sorry WhendoIsleep but I had baby bananna yesterday!
Had a baby boy, born 1st May at 7.37pm, weighing in at 6lb 14oz. Labour was about 4 hours, straightforward with gas and air.
He doesn't have a name - about to join my DH and 3DD for a family name the baby game!! But he is very cute and cuddly :)

Hope things get moving for you very soon When and that the sweep does the trick!
