Nordicmom · 24/04/2012 18:19

Hi everyone! Sorry it took a while to update you but only just logged into the wireless in the hospital. Baby girl Rose Isobel Aleksandra was born yesterday mon 23.4. at 7.40 am in Texas. To our surprise she was a whopper ; 9.4 pounds!!! Doing well , should be going home by mid day tomorrow. In here they seem to keep in babies longer even without concerns and run all kind of tests. Congrats to all others who have recently had their babies; Jambalaya, Twittle , Tinwe, Marshmallow! And good luck Holly and others !

Thaleia · 24/04/2012 19:08

Huge Congrats to all the new mums!!! Almost equal in numbers :)

After a rubbish day yesterday I did far to much walking/ shopping / stressing around when I was meant to sit at home with my legs crossed. Hope I haven't overdone it ....

Question re CS, as you have to stay at least 2 or 3 days in hospital, do you really need hubby there all the (day) time? We kind of arranged and organised that he'll be day for the little ones birthday but would go back to work till I'm released to have these days as PL at home, where we're alone and I'm otherwise pretty much stuck. With a big, scary scar. Is that crazy??? Just from having not being through it and absolutely clueless about the whole cs bit, it seems like a good idea to have hospital staff take care of us there and having him home the full 2 weeks.

Bananna1 · 24/04/2012 19:23

Congratulations Nordic - another lovely name and healthy weight. How wonderful it must be to finally have her in your arms.

I have to agree with you Thaleia that if DH only has 2 weeks, they are better spent at home looking after you/running the house, than sitting in a chair in hospital. BUT, I haven't ever had a CS so might be talking out of my a**e!!

Congratulations* tinwe glad you got the butt you wanted

Congratulations marsh , you are not wrong cs is very weird indeed. Sounds like your dd is a very lovely girlSmile keep trying with the bf, it gets easier.

congratulations Nordic on your big girl Rose. So happy for you, hope you get to leave hospital with her shortly.

thaliea they will look after you in hospital but you might feel lonely. Personally I really wanted my DP with me at the hospital but maybe that's just me. I wanted him rather than other visitors (who could only come for an hour in the morn & an hour in the eve anyway). You will probably be sore initially, not very mobile & emotional. I didn't want visitors whilst I was trying to establish bf, catheterized etc but I did want DP there for emotional & physical support as the midwives etc were pretty busy. That's my take on it anyway.

VintageNancy · 24/04/2012 21:04

Lots of new babies to celebrate - well done everyone! Grin

nordic gorgeous name! We stayed in 2 nights - seems to be the norm here. E had newborn hearing test, heel prick plus blood sugar and jaundice tests as she was over 4kg. What happens next for you all?

Flisspaps · 24/04/2012 22:03

Congratulations nordic Grin

Just re-posting this to add in DS's name (first time not MNing on the phone since he was born!)

Nordicmom · 24/04/2012 23:03

Vintage , we've had all the tests done now , just need to see the paediatrician tomorrow before leaving. Struggling with other things like getting the DNA test done that the hospital won't do even though we had arranged it with them beforehand. DH is beyond stressed , me just wrapped in the baby. She's perfectly healthy and eating well every 3-4 h and sleeping in between. Can't believe my baby is finally here! I was a bit worried about bonding but feel just the same as with DS. DS has really taken to his new role and is being such a good big brother:) !

Nordicmom · 24/04/2012 23:16

Thaleia, when I had my emcs with DS DH was doing a masters in one year and could only take one week off so we saved that for when I was released. He was there on the day of the birth and then it was the weekend so he was able to spend quite a bit of time with me but went home to sleep and I do remember also being by myself a lot. U do need a lot of help right after the surgery and I also wanted DH there not just to be at the mercy of the very busy NHS nurses. I'd prob take 2 first days off or at least 1 but ofcourse if u can't have any other help at home then it's understandable to want to save them. I had DH for 1 w then my mother for 1. After that my motherinlaw came once week over mon-tue to help.

HollyPockett · 25/04/2012 03:14

And another girl to add to the list!!! The Diva was born at 9.32 on 24.4.12 weighing in at 6.8

Absolutely shattered as lost quite a lot of blood so going to sleep for a bit and catch up with you all tmrw

VintageNancy · 25/04/2012 04:58

Congratulations Holly! Grin Hope you're feeling ok after the blood loss.

marshmallowpies · 25/04/2012 05:10

Congrats Holly! Another 24th Apr baby!

I simply cannot get any sleep as its so hot on the ward & a snorer in the bay next to me Angry (I am a very light sleeper).

Can't wait to be back in my own bed to get some sleep, if only an hour or so!

NB when the list is next updated: our little girl is Miranda.

mummylivmade · 25/04/2012 07:07

Congratulations Nordic and Holly hope you both make a speedy recovery

justhayley · 25/04/2012 07:56

GrinApril babies are coming thick and fast now, congratulations everyone.
I'm off to find our post natal thread now - also off to names thread as 10 days in and baby is still just little manBlush

WhenDoISleep · 25/04/2012 09:12

congratulations to nordic, tinwe and holly

Lovely name for your little girl marshmallow

Thaleia I can see why you want to save DHs paternity leave for when you are home to get the maximum amout of time with help - do you know if he will be allowed to split his paternity leave like that or would he have to take a days holiday for the day of the c-section and then start paternity leave the day you come home? I think paternity leave needs to be taken in one-week blocks (certainly has at the companies DH and I have worked for) - but it might depend on how flexible his manager is prepared to be. Do you have a date booked for your c-section yet, or is it more a case of you going into labour and then going in immediately? If you are being pre-booked in, is it worth trying to push for a Friday (depending on hospital schedule, etc) so DH would be able to be around at the weekend?

Still here and still waiting - 40+1 today, not one of the lucky 5% whose baby arrived on EDD. DS2 is showing no signs at all of emerging - not had any BH at all at any point. But it was the same with DS1 - absolutely no signs at all and I was sure I was heading for interventions instead of my planned hb - until a sweep at 40+8 showed I was 2/3cms dilated. So my body obviously likes getting on with the early stages very quietly. I would be very surprised if there is any movement at all before the weekend and more likely early next week.

Anyway, off to the MW today for 40w appt - booked for a sweep and will most likely take it, mostly just to see what the state of play is with my cervix, etc.

Speaking to my Mum the other night shows a family tendancy towards longer pregnancies, so I am trying not to stress about when something might start happening - just trying to enjoy the last few days I have with DS1 as an only.

JambalayaCodfishPie · 25/04/2012 10:10

Congratulations to Nordic, Tinwe, Marshmallow and Holly!

Many thanks to Bananna1 for keeping the stats list updated, it looks beautiful! Grin

Ooops, we crossed Jambalaya, sorry! I will now leave you to your duties if you feel up and running? Glad to hear all is well with your little girl, I loved having my three baby daughters too, was sooo in love with them. Can't imagine having a son, but am convinced it's a boy!

I thought maybe I'd have baby in the night - according to my dates today is my EDD and also my best friend's son's birthday - thought it would be nice if they'd share! But no, nothing at all. But I wanted it to be late, so can't complain!!!

JambalayaCodfishPie · 25/04/2012 13:00

Don't worry Bananna!

I'm sure your baby boy will be with you soon. Keep in mind how quickly my little bundle arrived - nothing to baby in less than an hour- and she was nearly born in the car, then the lift!
Who puts labour and delivery on the third floor?!Grin

Congtrats Holly! Rose is so lovely and cuddly but has only now been allowed a bigger amount of formula so really struggled to get her to sleep at night. In the day she's fine. Had to send her to the nursery for a few hours so I could sleep a bit while here. Hoping tonight back at the hotel goes better for all our sakes ( we're in one room...) .

Congratulations to all the new mummy's and good luck to all the mummy's still waiting. Only 3 days until baby is due here. xx

Still here, still waiting - trying not to continually think 'is today the day?' and to give as much attention to DS1 as possible.

Saw MW yesterday and had a sweep. Obviously nothing kicked off overnight, which was the outcome I expected really, but things are favourable and cervix is nearly all the way forward into the correct position, which is positive news.

yummymummy good luck and I hope you meet your little boy soon, but do try to enjoy everyday that you are still pregnant as you never quite have the same freedom to do just as you want again (well at least the next 18 or so years!)

nordic a lovely classic name for your little girl - hope your first night out of hospital went well.

Whendoisleep, thanks have always loved the two first names, they were our only names .... Had no alternatives in mind . The third is after my brother , it's a girly Finnish version of his name) .
First night at the hotel was a mixed experience . On one hand DS slept well and wasn't woken up by all the noise but DD was not so happy to be by herself in the bugaboo next to our bed . First she did 3 h in it and I slept ok ( DH far too aware of every sniffle to sleep properly , like me the first night in the hospital ). Unfortunately after the next two feeds she was restless and crying so in the end I had to have her next to me and let DH sleep a bit ( he did all the feeds and nappies ) and she slept really well so we all had some rest from 6 -9.30 am which I was gratefully for . I think she got lonely and was peacyfull again when she could hear/ smell /feel me. I spent a lot of time in the hospital holding her while watching a dvd, reading , using the internet . We'll have work on sleeping by herself but she is only 3 days old ... Also love holding her and having her sleep on my lap in the bed :)! Good luck to all of you still waiting for your arrivals ! Won't be long now and then your lives will change forever :)!!!

just wanted to let you ladies know that I had a gorgeous baby boy 10lb 6.5oz at 1410 today. A little gas and air but had to ditch it as I couldn't get it to work for me. Quick labour started this morning, established at 12 born soon after. Home now which is lovely. Oh and we've called him Lucian John.
Hope everyone is getting on well with their little ones and speedy labour vibes for those still waiting. Grin
