Hi all,
Hoping to snare a few of you who has just found out the great news like me, to share the journey and have a big moan about all the lovely effects pregnancy has on us!
It's no.2 for me!

Oh Chloe try not to worry (easier said than done!) hopefully your spotting will stop soon to put your mind at ease a bit.

Have you tried cuppa soup? I quite fancy one right now (I keep fancying stuff I don't have might have to go home via tesco which is in completely the wrong direction!)

Margie32 · 03/05/2012 18:44

Hi everyone,

Sorry for being AWOL for ages, no excuse really, life is just majorly hectic!

count - so sorry to hear your news, take good care of yourself.

brooke - I hope you have a great time in Barcelona, I've lived in Barcelona for the last 8 years as my husband's from Barcelona, so let me know if you need any recommendations.

chloe - hope you're feeling better? Raging symptoms are definitely a good sign.

I went to a wedding with all my best friends on Saturday and desperately tried to hide the fact I was pregnant. I was doing ok until the Sunday morning at the B&B when we were all having breakfast together and the waitress loudly announced "who's the decaf coffee for?" and I had to admit to it. There just doesn't really seem to be any other reason to have decaf, so they probably all guessed.

I had an 8 week scan yesterday, which is routine at my hospital if you're considered high-risk (I lost my first DS at 20 weeks). Anyway, everything looked good, a little bean and heartbeat was seen, so I was really relieved. Only 32 weeks of worrying to go!

Can I run something by you all? If had no sickness at all with either of my DSs but I've been feeling sick as a dog every single day with this one, do you think that means it's a DD? I'm not bothered either way really, it would just be interesting to know what you think. We do have a name for a DD - Emma - but are really stuck for DS names - have to find names which are good in Spanish and English.

Anyway, sorry for the essay, hope you're all well.

whatmess · 03/05/2012 19:06

So sorry Count, I hope you have a speedy recovery and wish you all the best for the future.

Chloe The sickness is a good sign. Try and hold onto that. My DH is very sympathetic to how I feel but I know he breathes a sigh of relief with my every moan about how sick I feel. Tonight I almost threw up at the checkout counter in the supermarket. I had the girl laughing as I heaved over the shopping and then raced home. Only just made it before I had my head buried in the loo. I am sat upstairs recovering as DH does the dishes and puts the shopping away. I think it was the supermarket smells that did it so from now on it's online only.

pleasebethismonth · 03/05/2012 19:22

so sorry Count, what horrible news. Hope you are being looked after, good luck with everything.

All booked in now! Yay!
Rather uneventful except dd plastering her face with bright red lipstick and playing non stop with the controls on the bed! The joys!

Scan date 17th May when I will be 12 weeks exactly by my calculations.

Can't even start thinking about names, dh seems to think it is his turn and wants his fathers name for a boy! I refuse to even talk about it!

Thought my sickness was easing off- how very wrong!

mwahmwah · 03/05/2012 19:57

Just catching up and read your sad news count. Best wishes for a quick recovery xxx

I have been so unwell for two days, mixture of sinus troubles and morning sickness. Awful. After another sleepless night I bit the bullet and went to my GP who's given me antibiotics fir my exploding head (honest I thought it may burst!) when I mentionned this to him he asked why I wasn't taking paracetamol, eh, cause i'm pregnant, duh... He assures me both paracetamol and antibiotics are totally safe, bloody hell, wish i'd contacted him about 3 days ago! Never stopped me 1. Asking the pharmasist for her opinion 2. Scouring NHS website 3. Reading the instruction pamphlet cover to cover, before popping one in my mouth though! Doesn't pregancy make you just a smidgen irrational? Xxx

Count so sorry to hear your news take care and good luck for the future xxx

ddas · 03/05/2012 20:53

count sorry to hear that and good luck for the future.

margie I have been wondering the same re gender. with ds I had ms but it's def worse this time round and is making me think maybe this will be a girl.
would be interested to hear what boys names you have in mind as we're in the same position. I'm originally spanish so we need a name that is used in both or at least easy to say in english. Girls names are easy to find but we used the only boys name we liked for ds so will be very lost re names if this is another boy lol.

kateand2boys · 03/05/2012 20:58

count I'm so sorry to hear your news, best wishes for a speedy recovery and a healthy baby really soon.

It's a mine of medical info on here, but so crap that doctors and midwives can't talk to each other to give continuity of care.

I feel sooooo tired today, I've got background nausea all the time, but I am managing to keep eating. I wish I could remember if it was better or worse that this last time, nut it's such a long time ago, I've got no clue.

I'm booking a private scan on 27th May when I'll be 10 weeks, which will keep me going until my NHS scan. Just hope my little bean sticks until then.

Going to tell the in-laws this weekend, will have to see of their reaction os as funny as my dad's was. They don't deal well with unexpected, when dh and I told them we were getting married his dad said 'that's nice' Confused I dread to think their reaction to this news.

We're not discussing names yet, too early for us, but I also have the teacher problem. We can't have that name because I taught one and they were a nightmare. I do have a boys name that I love which is good as my odds are in favour of a boy. Girls names, not a clue!

brooke89 · 03/05/2012 20:58

Clarella - I've booked in with GP for wrrk after your advice.MW didn't mention she would be doing them; just said to speak to the GP. You are the thyroid guru!

Margie - Very excited for Barcelona! We're going to watch the football on Saturday night - are there restaurants around the nou camp?

Very jealous of everyone being sick! Still no symptoms at all for me and I'm 8 weeks tomorrow! If we hadn't had an early scan sure I would be going crazy with worry now. Thinking positive and telling myself I'm lucky!

blackcurrants · 03/05/2012 21:08

mwahmwah I was a wee bit mental first time around, am much more relaxed now. I did know about paracetamol being fine for pregnancy and BFing last time, but you wouldn't have seen me near any caffeine first time around, and this time I am having a cuppa tea every day.

Apart from the last two days because the thought makes me want to puke. BUT! I know that will pass. Honest.

Ritz biscuits covered in peanut butter saved me this afternoon. Honestly, I have NO idea...

twobecomethree · 03/05/2012 21:41

I'm so sorry to hear your sad news count I really feel for you and hope that you manage to get through it and have a successful pregnancy soon.x

I've got doctors appt tomorrow so looking forward to getting the rest of the process started. I've got an underactive thyroid also so reading your posts was very helpful, I was going to ask my doc about what medication to take whilst pregnant so I'm now armed with good questions and expectations!
Friday tomorrow yay!!

CODwidow · 03/05/2012 22:18

margie I've been wondering the same as I had terrible ms with my 4 ds's and yet this time although I have background nausea it's not anywhere as bad as before so I'm wondering if this will be a dd and I also want Emma! (great minds) I don't mind what we have but just wondering if it's true that the pregnancies are different ??

Cookiesandcream06 · 04/05/2012 08:28

Just checking in.. I'm glad it's not just me comparing symptoms between pregnancies and wondering!! My nausea is about the same.. But the foods I want/don't want to eat are completely different.. And last time I had AWFUL skin.. And (touch wood) so far it's ok.. I have names for boys and nothing what so ever for a girl!

Bought some of those babybump waist expanders to keep me in my normal jeans.. For now! Wore them yesterday and felt great to be in my normal jeans.

Booking in today.. Whoop! I love that I'm getting excited when I know full well it's going to be boring and consist of filling in forms.. But next step and all that!!

Clarella · 04/05/2012 08:41

Morning, hope all are well?

Feeling saner today after going to my martial arts grp (did bugger all) but nice to see the gang. I think we are a bit weird, most of us are well into our 30s and generally have long conversations about cake. (guinness cupcakes with cream cheese icing a hot topic last night!)

Thing is its our massive get together this weekend, 5 hours training both sat n sun, gradings and general meastre adoration and cos I get a good deal at school and its a nice newbuild I booked there. And now can't go because of this banishment! Ironically feeling to most able to train in weeks! (also aware that when wee one comes along my ass kicking days are more or less over)

brooke its just that its not the mw's responsibility or knowledge area - only speaking so far from experience and other's advice - my gp put me up 25 (though I think my usual doc was tempted to leave me as my tsh was 1.5). I phoned the mw just about booking stuff and asked her if thy bloods taken at booking (it would have been around 4 weeks at higher dose) and she said no, only if GP said. Then in the meantime the gp contacted the mw and asked her to.

Hope it went ok with your gp, and you too twobecome. I heard a radio 4 prog about it in Feb and my next thyroid foundation meeting is on it in July. I got quite worried at first (please don't!) and had to pester the docs a bit to get a clear picture. (before conception and then when bpf).

Any news stacey? xx

Clarella · 04/05/2012 08:42

Sorry I will try to limit posts to twitter length in future!

FriendofDorothy · 04/05/2012 08:47

Morning all. I am sooo glad it is a long weekend. I just have to get through today.

I still don't feel particularly pregnant other than my boobs seem to be getting bigger every day and I am am feeling shattered. Teh lack of symptoms is slightly worrying me and I keep thinking something is going wrong :(

PurplePidjin · 04/05/2012 08:55

Sprouts playing up already, she woke me up to puke a 4 this morning Sad

Dp bought the penguin book of baby names in a charity shop yesterday Hmm

SeymoreButts · 04/05/2012 09:03

Sorry I haven't been on in ages, I've been feeling so rough I didn't really want to come on here and moan!

I've been interested to read the thyroid posts, although now I'm more worried than ever. After both of my DCs I had postpartum thyroiditis, and was hyperthyroid. The endo warned me that it would eventually turn hypothyroid because my thyroid would burn itself out, but there was no mention of actually monitoring it! I saw the GP at 4 weeks pregnant and she did a thyroid test because I mentioned the thyroiditis, which came back TSH 3.4, T4 12.1! She said it will probably return to normal but they want to retest in a month (I'm having the next test on Monday). I'm not on any meds at all!!

After some frantic googling I am amazed I got pregnant at all, and am sure the baby will have neurological damage now. Sad I'm 9 weeks so even if they put me on thyroxin it would be too late.

Clarella · 04/05/2012 10:19

Seymore please please don't worry - I didn't want anyone to worry or frantically Google (exactly as i did, i was a basket case) - I've literally just had a phone call from the doc to say even after going up 25 at 4 or 5 weeks the tsh is now 5.something, from 1.5, so 3.4 doesn't sound too bad but I don't class myself as an expert. I'm now going to be on 175 mg - I'm only 5'2 and weigh 8 n half stone ish (prob more now!) So I think my thyroid is mega sensitive.

From what I understand its the tsh that's important and they try to keep it near or at best below 2 - its tricky as they also don't want to completely dampen it down with meds. I think the worst problems occur with tsh of much much higher. I would definately return to the doc and ask them to both look up the latest advice and explain your case in detail to you as it sounds a bit different, or request they speak to a consultant.

I don't know if anyone else knows any more. Please don't worry xxx

SeymoreButts · 04/05/2012 10:42

Thanks Clarella, I must stay away from google, I've read some awful stuff! I've calmed down a bit now. I emailed a doctor friend of mine who asked around, and they came back and said that my test results are normal Confused I will see what the GP says on Monday.
My thyroid levels weren't checked in my other 2 pregnancies, so who knows, they could have been similar then and both my DCs are healthy.

Clarella · 04/05/2012 10:52

Thats good - it sounds as if you are being monitored though which is good. When ever I go up or down a notch it can take over 8 weeks, even 12, for things to settle. Try and make sure you are eating natural sources of iodine eg eggs (quiche? Scrabbled) and a little fish. Don't go near supplements, though I am taking pregnacare which has a little.

On another ( much lower) note - I cannot believe how gassy I am!

Liking Benedict ....

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 04/05/2012 11:24

morning everyone, well doc was wrong, the test results will take 2 weeks so i spent yesterday sobbing, spoke to another doctor and got advised if i was worried to go to EPU.

So off i trundled to the drop in this morning, where i was shoved in a side room as i may be contagious, told i couldnt get a scan as there were too many pregnant women around Hmm and got booked for a scan next weds afternoon.......better than no result at all but i'm still on edge :(

Hope everyone else is well!

Clarella · 04/05/2012 12:15

Hi Stacey, I understand your worry, I'm also on tentahooks in the two week wait (didn't know it took that long) It really really really is low risk, and then if contracted, treatable. Gps and a friend gp reassured me - plus most of us immune. I feel its silly being off when I hear it, its only a precaution on schools' part. It is in the general population, adults and some kids don't even get symptoms. I know how you feel though - I asked the mws simply if they knew scan date yet and got head bitten off with 'we don't do early scans' didn't even ask that! Got really low thinking I don't even know if this baby is still going strong and all this fuss could be for nothing. But then almost don't want to go through the scan stress.

Seeing mates has helped, glad I told them now :) hope you feel better soon xx

Shall we all talk about knitting and names again?

Giggling on metro, a kid in my class does a perfect impression of a ride on the metro, including door noises and judders!

CODwidow · 04/05/2012 17:10
