Hi everyone, just back from holiday and really suffering with heat rash Sad. I get it when it's hot but can usually control with piriton, no drugs allowed though so itching till I'm bleeding even though it's freezing here. Sad

MadMonkeys · 05/06/2012 08:35

Hi everyone, I'm just back from a couple of weeks away too - a lovely hot 2 weeks on the Isle of Skye. Haven't had chance to thoroughly read back through the thread, so hope everyone's doing ok.

I'm a lot bigger than I was last time, and the heartburn has started earlier. The LO is very active now, and packs quite a punch, especially at night. The weeks are flying by now, can't believe I'm 25 weeks already, when the first 12 weeks dragged by so slowly.

Was hoping to start potty training DD this week, but she has stalled the whole thing by refusing to wear pants - she loves them, but wants her teddies to wear them instead. Hmmm. I'm not going to force the issue, we'll just wait until she's ready.

Back to baby things, can anyone recommend a good (and not massively expensive) breast pump? I used a manual Avent one last time, but between DD and the breast pump my nipples got very damaged so I'm not kee to use it again. Plus it was quite unreliable, sometimes it would lose suction for no apparent reason which was very annoying. Is it true that manual ones are generally more gentle on the nipples?

Sunflower101 · 06/06/2012 08:14

leelteloo I also have had heat rash after the recent heat and I mentioned it to my GP when I saw her for 25 week appt last week. She said that normally I would also need antihistamines but cannot prescribe at mo. she gave me a prescription for E45 itch relief cream. I have found it helps. It is available over the counter but if you get prescription of course it will save you a couple of pounds!

Hello ladies it's a relief to hear that other people are still having mood swings. Completely blew out of proportion something yesterday. Even knew it whilst I was mid-tirade but just couldn't stop it. Proper grumpy and a pain in the behind. Happening every couple of days. Had a bizarre laugh-cry the other night, couldn't stop and was snorting. Was actually crying tears streaming as was upset but also knew what made me upset was stupid and making me laugh. Husband stared at me like a loon and patted my leg saying "what can I do? Are you laughing or crying" Grin. Numpty emotions

On another note can I just say really getting hacked off with the constipation. Trying everything I hear about. Bowls of bran not helping either- think it might be because I'm doing so much less exercise Sad

WhereAreMyShoes · 06/06/2012 10:35

Hello everyone.
I've not read the whole thread yet but nice to see other ladies at the same stage as me.
With DS I had 3 friends at work all pg in an 8 week span. Now, nada!

We ordered our buggy at the weekend, the Hauck Freerider tandem. No superstition here, we had the last one set up, with car seat on top, in our porch for 3 months before he was born!
We'll be using it as a single for DS anyway until little lady comes along.

SPD is killing me and fingers are like sausages. I'm a bit concerned about flashing lights and swollen legs/ankles as I had pre-eclampsia last time. Let's hope it's not rearing it's ugly head so soon!

DS will be just turned 2 at due date so a bit worried about how he's going to react to a new addition. Also, the worry keeping my mind off the labour is working out childcare whilst in hospital. DP is SAHD and he's not been left with anyone else. Plus our parents work full time and strange shifts. Urgh!

cakeladyc · 06/06/2012 12:13

Hi Everyone, hope you all had nice bank holiday weekends :)

Mine was good, lots more sorting of what will become the kiddo's room. Still alot of crap in there but im pleased to say most of it is hubbys, so he can sort it out himself!
I am v emotional at the moment as well. Lots of stropping at nothing and crying at anything. And i cant seem to make a decision at the moment either, about anything. What i'm hungry for, what to wear, what to watch etc etc.

Also feel like a right wreck at the moment, i'm loving getting a bigger bump but feel like a need a bit of a pamper, and desperately need a haircut, so i might go for a bit of me time at the weekend! :)

LadyLillyWilliamSnowflake · 06/06/2012 12:15

Oooh a thread that's relevant.

I'm new but have been lurking a while.

I'm 25weeks pg with dc 2 & 3, my ds is 10 mo

Right, well, I'm off to read the rest of the thread now

shellybop · 06/06/2012 12:40

hi all, hope everyone's had a good jubilee weekend. I've not been on here for a while as was ill with chest infection (clearing up with antibiotics now) but felt rough for a few days. was concerned about taking antibiotics but doc assured me it was ok and baby seems to be moving around more than ever this week.

As is always the case, my feeling rough coincided with having a house full of people to stay, so didn't get much lying in and feeling sorry for myself time (probably a good thing!).

reading all the posts above is making me concerned about my glucose test which i'm guessing i'll need to be doing soon. Midwife mentioned it at booking but not heard any more about it and my 25 week appt's been delayed a week as she's on hols. Think i need to do one as my dad's got type 2 diabetes. fingers crossed all is ok as i LOVE carbs!!

Mikyahrose · 06/06/2012 13:22

Hey everyone, another newbie here. :)

I'm pg for the first time, so its all new and exciting. I'm 25+1 and so far everything is going great - fingers crossed it stays that way.

Havent bought anything yet - there's just so much choice!

Feeling and seeing baby boy kicking about lots in there. i'm love it!

Paperclips · 06/06/2012 13:56

Hello all, finally found this thread with its confusing name.

It's all new for me too. I'm 25 weeks today. We don't know the sex which makes it all the more exciting. I've been very lucky so far, feel well, love having a wriggly bump, and would go so far as to say I'm enjoying being pregnant.

Worrying about being lazy and not doing any exercise. Eating too much chocolate, cakes, takeaways etc and putting on too much weight. Happy but crying lots anyway. Sleeping is starting to get uncomfortable now too. And the house and garden is a mess but I can't be arsed to sort it- aren't we supposed to have some kind of instinct?

Have bought a few bits and bobs, a few cute babygrows and cardies but nothing big though. Chosen the pram etc but not buying just yet. Still feels a bit soon. But i'm putting aside all the money I'm saving on wine every month so I should be able to have a huge shopping spree soon. How many of you have bought big stuff like prams yet?

Just 8 weeks till I finish work and only 7 more to actually work as I'm going away for a week!

LadyLillyWilliamSnowflake · 06/06/2012 14:22

Paper, I haven't got a pram yet, I still need to decide on one, I need to get a triple pram and they all look so massive and chunky Sad I'm going to miss lovely light easy steering maclaren

Mikyahrose · 06/06/2012 14:43

I think we're pretty decided on the Travel System - Hauck Shopper Trioset - anyone got any thoughts on that?
We're gonna go for a cot bed too, measured up the gap in babies room earlier, so we're happy one will fit. Undecided on what kind of mattress though.
Same with a chair, dont know whether to go for just a bouncy one, a vibrating one or a swing one. Again - whats everyone elses thoughts?
Think thats all the really big (expensive) things to think about. Lots of the other things, we'll just buy as and when we remember, hopefully adding something extra onto each weeks supermarket shop.

The man has just offered me a back rub. I think he's up to something, but havent figured out what yet. There's no footy on so he cant be buttering me up to watch that.....

cakeladyc · 06/06/2012 14:57

We got our Silver Cross Freeway last week which we're both really pleased with. We were a bit worried about the reviews about not getting it in the boot of the car, but went to mothercare and tried it out and even in my tiny Suzuki Alto, it fits fine, just can't have the parcel shelf in there which isnt a great loss.
The only annoying bit is that my car is too old for an isofix base, but we'll cope.
There's so much choice though!! On everything! Mikyahrose I have no idea what sort of chair to get, theres too many to choose from!

Smallgreenone · 06/06/2012 15:20

Hi all and welcome newbies. Just posting from my hospital bed........had a bit of waters leakage yesterday. Scan today shows baby is fine and hopefully I won't lose anymore and the waters will top themselves back up. Anyone else ever had this? Bit worrying but I think all is ok, I'm on antibiotics for any infection which could make things worse and I've had steroids injected to toughen up baby's lungs just in case he pops out über early (fingers crossed he'll stay put though!)
We were supposed to be flying to Portugal tomorrow but think that's been outlawed by the dr now. Feeling worried still but glad baby is ok at least for now and trying not to be down about holiday, after all Portugal will always be there!
Xxx

Macaroons · 06/06/2012 16:05

Welcome to more newbies and sorry to hear about your water leakage scare smallgreenone if you are at the hospital you are in safe hands as they are monitoring you. so don't worry too much!

Did abit of online shopping on mothercare this long weekend - bought a cot, changing table with storage, bath tub plus some other bits and bobs. There was 10% online discount that's why we bought a load of stuff! After I hit confirm order I start to have doubts on choices - picked a cot but now wonder if I should get a cot bed. Hmmmm

We got hand down a Moses basket, will need to get a mattress, chatted to my midwife, she suggested getting non foam ones (won't sink in like the foam ones) but all I could see in the shop are foam ones! Am also confused about cot mattress. If foam ones tend to sink in should i get spring ones? Any recommendation would be helpful, thanks!

Thankfully I don't have much constipation issue, what I find is I like going to the toilet in the morning, and if I have cereal / drink a glass of milk the job gets done much quicker.

Will be having a 4D scan this Saturday! Can't wait! Hope LO will cooperate and let us see his face Grin

cakeladyc · 06/06/2012 16:23

Macaroons can i ask how much your 4D scan is costing? DH really wants one but im a bit worried about the cost

I'm so bored at work today.... can you all tell?! :)

Macaroons · 06/06/2012 16:52

cakeladyc we got a groupon voucher back in January (when we first got the BFP!) costs 99 quid instead of 250 quid which is how much they claim it usually costs. It includes some photos and a video DVD! Occasionally I see some groupon deals coming up, hope they do this again!

I woke up at 3 to go to the loo and couldn't get back to sleep, so am knackered and can't wait to go home!

Mikyahrose · 06/06/2012 16:54

We bought a travel system Sunday, only to take it back Monday. I want one with a carry cot, then my thinking is not to bother with a moses basket and baby can sleep in the carrycot part of the TS. I think we may go for a foam mattress in the carrycot (if it doesnt already come with one) and then get something a bit more heavy duty and long lasting for the cot bed.

Same here on the constipation front - no problems for me.

I've looked into a 4D scan, trying to talk the man into having one. I've seen one for £140, included in this price is: 30 Min scan, which is all put on a dvd, a cd of stills and 6 glossy prints and confirmation of the gender. we were told at 20 weeks it looked like a boy, but he was pretty fidgety, so she didnt like to say for sure.

cakeladyc · 06/06/2012 18:05

I will keep an eye on Groupon, thanks Macaroons

leelteloo · 06/06/2012 18:39

Thanks for the advice Sunflower101, it's finally going down and I had first restful night in a week last night and the dd even slept right through! Grin
Sorry to hear about your waters pgreen that sounds very stressful but as others have said you are in the best place and better it happened here than on holiday. Fingers crossed for you.
I had 25 week app and everything is right on track and no carpal tunnel yet, yea!!! But I do have to have a scan in 4 weeks to look at my placenta as its low.

leelteloo · 06/06/2012 18:41

Sorry I meant smallgreenone not pgreen, pregnancy brain Blush

moogs1000 · 06/06/2012 19:36

Hi, glad all going well. I've been an emotional wreck last few days. Cried cos poor prince phillip got ill (and got laughed at by dh) , then cried at national anthem, bloody ridiculous...don't get me wrong I'm not into the royals...so this is completely bizarre. Did cry at last Olympics tho when pregnant everytime I heard anthem!

Done a bit of Hoovering today and my back is killing, sure dh doesn't believe me either!

With the chairs....last time we had a swing and it's amazing, dd loved it. Also had a bouncy one but was too upright and her head kept falling forwards, she was very light though.

Cotbed mattresses ...there is an offer comin up this week on bountys flash sale for a sprung one. I ordered it last time on sale and it seems fine.

Best thing I bought with dd was a towelling bath support from mothercare. It's like a ramp which they lay on and don't slip, she used it for ages cos used to sit on it when she was older so didn't slide around.

mrsmaccas · 06/06/2012 20:51

Enjoying an extended bank hols and have been making a "things we need" spreadsheet today.

We went to the Birmingham BabyShow a few weeks ago and made some fairly large purchases for good prices. Decided I wanted to try the Medela Swing breastpump and my OH liked the Angelcare Monitor (with sensor pad) so we got those, plus an M&P cotbed (although we need a mattress). We also got the iCandy Apple pram (without carrycot. we chose it because the handle is adjustable to 7 different heights which is great for me at 5ft 6 and my OH at 6ft 4!)) and Maxi-cosi cabriofix. Weren't quite planning on spending so much but the deals were very good :-)

Otherwise we've got a few babygros (in neutral colours as we don't know gender) but haven't gone to town with clothes.

Pregnancy wise everything seems to be ok. BP fine and so far wee tests are clear. Seeing the Consultant next week (28 wks) to check on the fibroid but at the moment I don't seem to be experiencing any effects. Getting up at least once a night to wee (have done for entire pregnancy!) and have had some heartburn but with a dose of Gaviscon I have slept.

Mikyahrose · 06/06/2012 21:14

Thanks for the feedback moogs, will deffo look on the bounty flash sale.

Had already thought about getting a bath support rather than a baby bath too, so good to hear its worth it long term.

Had thought we'd go for a monitor with sensor pad too, and angelcare seems to be the one i keep seeing, so will probably opt for that one.

Spreadsheet already done for me mrsmaccas and updated it today with purchases made. :)

Bakeroo · 06/06/2012 23:29

Thanks so much for all of your kind messages. Dads funeral went as well as you can hope and although I 've cried every day for the past 2.5 weeks since he 's died, I am doing ok and went back to work today. Only have 2 full weeks until our holiday so it's good to have something to look forward to.

Have been trying to plan when to leave work and start my maternity leave but finding it hard. Ideally I want 3/4 weeks off before my due date but not sure whether to book holiday time as part of it to delay my maternity pay starting or not? What is the norm/ people's advice on this please?

Have been fine on the constipation front but got it today and am so annoyed! Thought I'd avoided it :( hopefully it won't last. My heart burn has been bad for the past two days too...am supping on Gaviscon as I type. I feel hungrier too these past 2 days...anyone else notice that? I'm 2 days away from being 28 weeks.

Sorry to hear about your waters Smallgreenone try not to worry too much though, you 're in the right place and my friend had that and the waters recovered. It's amazing how they can do that. Do you mind me asking how you knew it was yours waters? Was it very obvious? Only because some days (not very often) I seem to get quite a big wet patch ( sorry tmi) in my knickers and it crosses my mind that it could be my waters? I hope they're happy with your progress soon so that you can go home.

Night all...zzzz
