Hoping to carry on the brilliant thread started by misscoffeenwine which was so popular we got to 1000 posts before starting another - come over and join me...... Promise to think of a more original name for Part 3!

Bakeroo- so sorry to hear your sad news. Hope you have lots of support at home from friends and family.

I've been off for a week at my brothers wedding, which was lovely (made more lovely by the fact that i fit into my dress with no problems!). Everyone said i was blooming, which was a nice surprise as i have to say i haven't really noticed it myself. Perhaps they were all being polite!!

sounds like you've all been busy buying pushchairs. I must get on with it and get testing out and ordering. My MIL has offered us a travel system which she randomly has in the garage (think it was SIL's) but i haven't yet tried out how heavy it is. Slightly concerned as i'm quite short and not that strong! Was thinking of starting out with MIL's one (as it's free) and then getting another one if i end up hating it. Do they take AGES to be delivered though? am worried about being left in the lurch without a useable one.

my bambino has started having more predictable periods of movement now which i'm really enjoying.

MakeTeaNotWar · 29/05/2012 20:55

Sorry for your loss bakeroo big hugs

Tinker how was your homebirth meeting? Our community midwives have a session every Monday afternoon to discuss homebirths and I just have to get myself along to one, planning to wait until later in the pregnancy. I've bought a pool off ebay though - £40

TinkerMaloo · 30/05/2012 08:02

MakeTea It was just a normal midwife appointment, but I asked her about it and she said she can see no reason why not! :D

The only thing that might scupper it for me is if I have gestational diabetes again, as they will want me in hospital so that they can monitor baby's blood sugar levels after birth... I was only just over the cut off point for having it last time, so hopefully it wont show up on my test in 3 weeks time (fingers crossed) Im gonna be super careful with what I eat over the next few weeks!
She also said that there is only one on call team of community midwives for the area, so if I call and ask them to come but they are already at another home birth then I will have to head to hospital instead, but thats very very unlikely as only about 3% of births around here are at home, and they average less than 10 births a day.

All being well they will come and visit me at 36 weeks and bring drugs to put in my fridge etc. (exciting!)
Am going to leave the pool purchase til after the glucose test, but I have everything crossed for getting my own way!

Which pool did you go for? Im thinking maybe "la bassine" as it seems to be the cheapest and also small! I only have a small front room to put it in and I'm only 5'2"

Im not a huge fan of travel systems as I hate seeing tiny babies getting pushed around for hours in car seats :/ They should be lying flat when possible! Its bad for their little spines to be in a car seat all day long... I think travel systems encourage mums into bad habits, though I can see the attraction of not waking them up to move them around!

We are off to Brittany tomorrow! (sorry had to share as am excited!)

Love to all :) Xx

shellybop · 30/05/2012 12:52

AAAHHHHHH! OOOOWWWWW!

heartburn.

TinkerMaloo · 30/05/2012 13:12

Heartburn sucks... I had it bad with DC1 and he was born with tons of hair, had hardly any with DC2 and she was bald til she was a year old... some old wives tales are true?

pgreen · 30/05/2012 14:54

oh my Bakeroo I am so so very sorry to hear your sad news. What a complete shock for you and your family. So very sudden too, I lost my Dad almost 10 years ago to cancer but we had 3 months "notice" still wasn't long enough. You'll be in my thoughts. x

Macaroons · 31/05/2012 08:42

Hope everyone is well. Weather is cooling down a little which is good as it was way too hot last week!

bump is getting a lot bigger these days and it's all feeling more real. Get leg cramp around twice a week during my sleep which is a real pain though... It's only about 3 months to go, and we feel so unprepared. Really need to start shopping for changing table (planning to get the ones with drawers and cupboard so can hide all baby stuff there) and all the little bits and pieces! It's exciting though! Starting to look forward to maternity leave Smile

smallgreenone yay we are stokke buddies :) love the winter kit too but havent got it yet!

we are planning a weekend trip in the summer to the peak district - I saw others lovely landscape photos, really impressive! is it all hilly up there? are there any car-accessible spots you'd recommend? (don't think I want to do a hilly trek!)

Smallgreenone · 31/05/2012 12:40

Hi macaroons lovely that you're planning a trip up to the peak district- hope its not too rainy for you! It's all quite hilly I'm afraid but there are some nice walks along the flat. So:
Dovedale- you can walk along by the river Dove and it's very pretty and flat. Major tourist destination though so will be pretty busy. If you want a nice pub lunch, The George in a village called Alstonefield is lovely.
Chatsworth House- gorgeous place and again you can walk along by the river. Lovely pub called the Devonshire Arms in Beeley village.
Tissington Trail- nice walk along an old railway route. Lots of cyclists. Tissington itself is pretty and there is an old house there to look round if you fancy.
Monsal Trail- another old railway route and lots of cyclists here too. Nice and flat though.
Ashbourne- lovely little town for a potter about- great kids clothes shop called Dovechild and also in Bennetts dept store is a lovely kids section.
Bakewell- nice for some Bakewell pud!!!
Buxton- similar to Ashbourne, some nice shops and the pavilion gardens are lovely if you get nice weather.

Hope all that helps!!!! X

pgreen · 31/05/2012 14:33

hi all

I've been getting tingly fingers but I'm putting this down to the dead arms I keep giving myself by sleeping on my side.... worse in the morning and generally only in left hand. Thankfully no restless legs or cramps - I'm sure that's to come BUT yes to the acid reflux. It's not too bad yet and is easily quelled with yoghurt or milky drink or philadelphia spread on toast.

The builders are still here but new windows are in and hopefully scaffolding will be down early next week. Then its just floor sanding and the decorators.

I "liked" mothercare on facebook and they are regularly sending alerts on "flash" sales. Yesterday I got a vibrating rocker for half price -brill. Definitely recommend liking them

Still dumbfounded on car seats and prams/buggies. We looked at the stokke like smallgreenone and macaroons as I like how high up it is. But I'm worried about its suspension, I do tonnes of walking (as I don't drive - this will change I'm sure when the baby arrives, I'll be first in queue for lessons). Where we live is really hilly (Brighton) and the pavements aren't great to be honest. Worried the little bean will be bounced all over the place. So looking at other options...... and there are too many

Also has anyone else noticed there ability to breathe reducing - the hills are killing me this week - and I used to run up them until not long ago.... puffed from doing medium exertion. WTF?

Anyway I'll stop complaining now as little peanut is kicking again telling me to stop it :) :)

Loopyhasanotherbean · 31/05/2012 15:01

pgreen it sounds like you might have carpel tunnel syndrome....i had that in my last pregnancy, but only in the last few weeks. It can help if you raise your hand in the air, other than that not much that can be done, if it gets bad i think they can give you a splint to support your wrist. Mine vanished after DS was born.

Recommend the baby jogger city select, sturdy, well built and can be used as a very flexible double, adjustable handle bar, decent storage underneath, and very easy to use.

Struggling to breath is normal :) it gets worse here on in!

bakeroo sorry about your news.

yay for those having holidays, we probably won't get chance before this one is born, although feel like we should do.

cakeladyc · 31/05/2012 16:14

I am blinking knackered today! Been barely keeping my eyes open at my desk, plus in a foul mood, boss is getting on my tits nerves.
Plus my lovely mum has been sitting in all day to accept the buggy/pram/whatever you want to call it delivery and it still hasnt turned up!

I'm going for a lovely long nap when i get in, can't wait! :)

Also, bump feels really weird, like tender to touch. Not sore, but it makes me feel a bit sick? Anyone else or am alone in this weirdness...

funchum8am · 31/05/2012 18:45

So I panicked yesterday having not felt the baby move more than the odd tiny weak flutter for about 6 hours and rang the delivery suite (only number in my maternity notes for anyone who answers the phone outside 9-5). They were lovely and got me to go in, hooked me up to a monitor and then showed me all was absolutely fine. Not sure why I had felt such little movement but heartbeat and movements were completely normal.

One side effect of this was DH and I seeing the delivery suite - we only went into a little triage room with four beds in but one had a lady in it who we overheard saying 'baby coming' in broken English and then she started really groaning and then screaming....think it gave us both a wake up call for what is going to be happening in September!!! The staff were brilliant with her and with me and the only downside was they didn't want me to go until I'd see a doctor which meant a two hour wait AFTER I had been on the monitor. However there were clearly people who actually DID have something that needed seeing, unlike me, and I am just really glad to know that when I am in need they will be there for me too.

Feel a bit silly having gone in when there was nothing wrong but they didn't make me feel that way at all, it is all me! Here's to a nice long weekend not that I'm taking 21 pupils on a walking trip from Weds to Sat next week, no.

cjbk1 · 31/05/2012 19:10

Dear all
yes my bump is tender especially on the left also out of breath with any exertion but i hav 2 exercise to ease restless legs
today I had 5 separate engagements/things 'on' plus school. runs then dd had diarreah(sp) at a party miles from home and we didn't hav spare clothes had to borrow some and I don't feel great either, inset day for both tomorrow double edged sword? Sad

Macaroons · 01/06/2012 08:43

Thanks for your local tips for the Peak District, smallgreenone

I had a scare last night, i suddenly got quite a severe stomach ache when I went to bed, no matter which way I lie it didn't go away and only got worse. Then I started to get worried... googled to see what pain is normal, but I honestly don't know whether it's classed as contraction or not... Went to toilet, luckily no bleeding, took out my doppler and could hear the little ones heart beat, which was a relief but was still worried. And i was thinking that if the baby come out at 26 weeks he will be tiny! Stomachache finally went away this morning, and I could feel baby movement so I think he's still fine in there! Didn't know what was going on last night though and it was well scary (but I wasn't sure if it's scary enough to call midwife in the middle of the night or to was to A&E...) has anyone experienced something similar?

sclayton · 01/06/2012 10:32

It is a bit scary, Macaroons. I experienced severe stomach ache once, last month. We waited for half a day and when the pain did not go away, we went to the doc. She checked by pressing my tummy for pains at various spots. There were none. Then she did a thorough examination. Baby heartbeat was also heard. So she declared that all is well. She said it must be gas. Asked me to avoid outside food for few days.

Got my glucose tolerance test done today. The result says 'impaired glucose' something. Waiting to show it to the doc tomorrow to know if everything is in order. Fingers crossed.

MrsHelsBels74 · 01/06/2012 20:01

Is anyone else feeling ridiculously hormonal? I feel like I could quite happily curl up in a corner & cry Sad

Macaroons · 02/06/2012 08:11

I feel that im very easily irritable. Had my parents around and didn't hold my temper very well when they nag about small things, then I feel bad... Don't know if I can blame that on hormones...

Macaroons · 02/06/2012 08:13

Fingers crossed sclayton. Hope test clone back ok. When I peed on some stick midwife said i have glucose in my urine and should cut down on refined carbs too ... Confused

sclayton · 02/06/2012 12:35

Just feel so depressed after visting doc.
Doc said the glucose is slightly impaired so I have to make dietary changes -
cut down on carbs and exercise regularly.

funchum8am · 02/06/2012 20:52

I feel much more hormonal than before recently - not all the time but had a couple of very very grumpy late afternoons last week where I got small things a bit out of proportion, and sometimes feel tearful for no real reason. I'm finding keeping busy is helping, just getting out and about to a wedding yesterday afternoon and a Jubilee event this morning have meant I'm feeling a bit more normal but it is quite weird feeling like I am controlled by hormones rather than reason!

funchum8am · 02/06/2012 20:53

sclayton sorry to hear you have to make changes - did they give you any useful advice about things you CAN/should eat rather than just what not to?

shoeprincess2 · 03/06/2012 08:02

I have the joy of the GTT looming on the horizon. I had the test last time round- it was fine, but ended up having a 10lb 12oz baby anyway. I have to have it again due to having such a large baby (and the fact that my dad is Type 2). I'd be interested to hear from the ladies who have been told to make changes what advice you have been given. I assume it's stuff like wholegrains and complex carbs?

Just changing the subject- anyone here with a sub-2 year old toddler? My LO is a handful- he's just a typical little boy. Loud, rumbuctious and prone to the odd tantrum. However, he's my little noisy boy and I wouldn't change him for the world. My parents keep saying "oh, imagine having 2 of those. I don't envy you". My mum then pulls a face that is one of pity towards me. It's really getting on my nerves now. My parents only had me, so they are only assuming what it is like to have more than one child. My partner and I are under no illusions- we expect it to be hard work, but we feel so blessed to be having another (particularly having gone through an amnio and a fetal heart scan, as NT measurement was large). I just wanted to get that off my chest- hope you don't mind.

Big hugs to all the ladies on this forum. I am so excited that in a few months we're going to start with all the birth stories. Still no idea how I'm going to have this one- naturally, or as my friend says "through the sunroof" Grin

Happy Jubilee weekend. S x

ballroomblitz · 03/06/2012 22:25

I have been keeping up with everyones posts, just not posting as I was on my phone.

Bakeroo I'm so sorry for the loss of your dad. He was very young :(

On the subject of prams I haven't even thought of it. I do have a silver cross 3D that I had from ds but I threw out the pram attachment bit of it. It can be replaced but not sure I want to go with the SC again as I found it extremely heavy and bulky. Can I really justify spending the money on a new one though??

My hormones have actually started to calm down a bit. I was the same with ds. This is the time I actually start to enjoy being pregnant only for the simple fact the end is now in sight Grin Although the aches and pains, having to cross my legs when laughing (really must start doing my pelvic floor exercises) and constant tiredness is not fun.

Funny funchum I was out at a wedding do on Friday night with some friends I haven't seen in ages and I was in such good mood when I got home and the next day. I even said to dp on Saturday it was because I felt like me again and not just a baby machine.

Looking forward to my 25 week mw appointment on Friday this week, if only to check my fundal height more than anything. I'm starting to get paranoid that it's not growing up to where it should be. Think it's starting to play on my mind about the baby's growth based on previous.

Macaroons · 04/06/2012 11:26

I hope not too many of us need to watch the amount of glucose we're having!

My urine test was showing signs of glucose so midwife said I'd better watch what I eat, than cure it when it's too late. Her suggestions were:

  • eat brown bread / multi seeded bread instead of white bread
  • eat brown rice / pasta instead of white rice / pasta
  • eat more protein and veg, less carbs
  • cut down on cakes and biscuits
  • watch out on sugary drinks including fruit juice (eating whole pieces of fruit is better)

Happy long weekend everyone!

Macaroons · 04/06/2012 11:27

oh one thing I forgot to mention, she said Special K is loaded with sugar, and not so healthy! Bran flakes / weetabix are better.
