I'm another shortie & I struggle getting our son out of his cot! Not had a problem with trollies yet but we often get our shopping delivered

WhereAreMyShoes · 09/06/2012 22:04

Oh I'm having the cot problem. Putting my son in it hurts my bump and have thought about putting the side down to do it (but I'm too lazy to turn the cot round)
Getting to the bottom of the trolley has always been hard for me. Tempting to just tip it all out onto the belt!

Just off for a pint of aniseed Gaviscon before not sleeping all night. (Bought by mistake. Yuk.)

Rusulka · 09/06/2012 23:54

Leelteloo I'm 5'3" and have exactly the same problem, so I only ever use those shallow trolleys.
I get all the heavy shopping delivered, then go in to get fruit, veg and meat- the stuff I'm picky about. Then I never need more than a little trolley.

Picked up my secondhand moses basket today, it's gorgeous- the snug from Mothercare... although god knows what wash powder the previous owner used, but if you breath it in you seriously have no hairs left in your nostrils. I think a baby would get scorch marks on their skin from lying on it! Going to wash it all thoroughly, obvs.
Also got chronic acid reflux all day today, which was marvellous, not. And no gaviscon in the house! Normally they say to have milk to neutralise the acid, but it was milk that caused the problem in the first place I think- I'm not great with dairy, so have goat milk, but didn't expect this reaction. Must be Peanut pushing the acid up.

All those with heartburn, expect hairy babies!

voices.yahoo.com/pregnant-mothers-heartburn-expect-babies-451594.html

MrsHelsBels74 · 10/06/2012 10:01

Well I had terrible heartburn last time & son did have a full head of hair when he arrived!

ballroomblitz · 10/06/2012 10:35

I'm not short by any means but even I have problems bending over to get ds out of the bath as my stomach gets in the way.

Yuck to everyone suffering heartburn. That's how I would feel every day of my life if I don't take my tablets. Thankfully mine is controlled with omeprazole atm although a bout of it did wake me up last night. My own fault for eating 3 packets of salt and vinegar crisps right before bed me thinks. Ruskula milk doesn't work as it contains lactic acid, it feels like it initially helps but in truth will make heartburn worse.

Rusulka · 10/06/2012 16:06

Good to know Ballroom!

Have only had the reflux that severe for one day, but I guess it gets worse from here in...
Don't know whether to hope for a hairy baby or not- would love Peanut to have lots of yummy curly hair like her daddy, but not if it's all over her back! Lol.
Interesting article though, especially about the excess oestrogen- I wonder if that causes my mum's reflux? Will certainly mention it to her.

MissCoffeeNWine · 10/06/2012 18:45

I had severe heartburn with my DD and she hardly had any hair ... I'm expecting to start getting it any time soon this time. I can see my fundus creeping upward towards my stomach and feel the kicks getting higher and higher! I only have about 2.5 inches now between my fundus and underboob Grin Anyone else feeling the belly creeping upward?

I'm having a couple of issues reaching right down to the floor to do up the little buckles on sandals and stuff so I got my slip ons out but no problems with trollies etc yet, I shall be aware though! I'm a bit taller than average so maybe that will help.

I put away my normal jeans today which feels very odd, I will be in jeggings/leggings or dresses for the rest of the pregnancy I think. I managed to wear them a lot longer with DD, some right to the end but even with the bump band they do dig in a bit round the waist now. I don't know whether its a shape thing or I'm just bigger this time.

cazzabazza · 10/06/2012 19:55

It's been a while since I caught up on how all of you are getting on...

Had a little 'me too!' moment reading about those of you struggling with your bump getting in the way when unloading shopping trolleys and getting babies in/out of cots - how are we going to cope when our bumps get bigger??? Shopping I can do online. But putting DS to bed if DH is not home yet...??

And don't even mention the heartburn! I had it really bad last time (and DS had no hair, still doesn't have much!), went through gallons of Gaviscon, only to find out afterwards that we can get it free on prescription!

Have a consultant appointment soon as I have to make the really hard decision between trying for a VBAC, or going with an ELCS. Keep changing my mind every time I think about it. Tough decision to make! If only birth was predictable Grin

funchum8am · 10/06/2012 20:01

Hi everyone and welcome to all the new ladies. I have survived four days of leading a residential school trip and now will officially become a blimp (though not at work). 6 weeks left til school holidays and I plan to go back for one week in September then start ML at 38 weeks, but work are fine with me going earlier if needs be.
I have finally got some baby clothes and toys and a car seat (all hand me downs from trusted family and friends). We also bought the paint to sort the nursery come the school holidays. Need to sort out a buggy and cot and then I think we are there!
It is all starting to seem real! Good luck to those hoping to get their, er, systems moving and smallgreenone I hope all goes well now you're home.

MissCoffeeNWine · 10/06/2012 23:53

My DD is 5 so no lifting in and out of cots or baths or things but she still needs lifting up a few times a day for various things, happily though I can explain to her I need her to climb up somewhere or whatever because of the baby in my tummy. She still falls asleep in the car and downstairs and needs lifting into her bunkbed though! She is a good bender and go getter though. I get her to do all that stuff for me Grin When the bump's big she'll be on summer holidays and she can do all the trolley emptying, sweeping and mopping and lego picking up duties if she wants to be a big sister Grin I've got her trained to fetch drinks and snacks too and she gives a decent backrub...

NightmareWalking · 11/06/2012 09:18

Sounds good MissCoffeNWine - where can I borrow a helpful 5 year old till September? :o

I was awake last night with what I guess must be Braxton Hicks - now thats made it feel very scarily real!

shellybop · 11/06/2012 09:55

i had a severe heartburn episode a week or so ago and ran out the next day and bought loads of gaviscon tablets and liquid and some rennies as i didn't know what would work best (and they were all on special offer). Since then....nothing. no heartburn, just a cupboard full of gaviscon! Still i'm not complaining - it was NOT pleasant and i hope to keep avoiding it if i can.

MissCoffee - i'm impressed you managed to stay in normal jeans so long! I went to mat ones ages ago....My bump seems to have been huge for months now and i keep looking at people who are much nearer fullterm and thinking 'hmmm i'm quite big already'! Still, he is moving lots and i can't do anything about the size so i'm just enjoying it all. I think i've probably gone 'outwards' quite fast as i'm short with a short torso so there isn't much other space for him to fit into!

I have found my bump-getting-in-the-way problem is getting things out of the oven because of the height of our oven and it's position. finding ingenious ways at the moment......and no burns so far!!

shellybop · 11/06/2012 10:11

also, sorry TMI alert possibly: can i just ask (if you don't all mind) what is going on with your boobs?

strange question i know, but i have developed a real fear that i won't be able to breastfeed. I'm normally a 36C and went to get remeasured 2 months ago when i read about not wearing underwiring to protect the tissue and had a bigger rib cage but same cup size (38C) but boobs felt fuller and denser to me and DH. Now they just feel normal again and i feel like they have got smaller if anything. Some of my friends have told me about leaking in pregnancy and i haven't had any of that. what is going on?

I'm so worried that i won't make any milk and i REALLY want to breastfeed.

will discuss with mw at appt next week but will just worry till then.

ladygagoo · 11/06/2012 10:22

I too am finding bump is getting in the way - trolley not so bad as I am 5'8 but all the bending and carrying heavy bags has made me do an on-line shop for the first time ever. Took bl**dy ages Grin but got there in the end.

I have officially outgrown some maternity jeans too so I reckon I must be leading the 'whale' front... with all this crappy weather too I think I'll need to get some more - hats off to you misscoffee for staying in normal ones so long.

On a very positive note though, DP surprised me yesterday by getting down on one knee with a beautiful ring so now he is officially DF!! We celebrated with a tiny bottle of champers and a nice lunch then we took a very romantic trip to the dump Grin Grin Grin. Can you tell I'm a happy bunny though? Still got the biggest grin!

NightmareWalking · 11/06/2012 10:33

Congrats ladygagoo!

Shellybop - no real advice here but I have the same fear esp as I had a breast reduction ten years ago. Still in my usual bras although DH does say I look bigger and I guess he's the expert :o and definitely no leaking, but it's early days for that for most people surely? (TMI although with a bit of prodding I can force a bit of colostrum). I think maybe with first babies it takes a bit longer for the body to work out what it should be doing but it'll get there in most cases.

NightmareWalking · 11/06/2012 10:44

Although I have to say as I'm a 32F anyway I'm not relishing the idea of trying to find inexpensive-and-not-hideous bras in bigger sizes, so that's one bright side of being the same size for the time being.

25 week check for me this afternoon.

Loup23 · 11/06/2012 10:56

Congratulations ladygagoo lovely news!

Sorry to hear of all the heartburn, fortunatley that seems to be the one ailment I haven't suffered from, more than making up for it in the lack of bowel movement department though (sorry tmi)!

Was hoping my two or three maternity dresses would see me through the last 10 weeks of work and did not bargain on this foul weather, am in leggings today out of desperation as nothing else would do up this morning - not v professional in my city office..... roll on maternity leave please!

Childcarewoes · 11/06/2012 11:21

Hi Ladies, can I join in? I'm 24+3 due at the end of Sept and feeling rather depressed. At the moment it seems like the smallest thing can cause me to feel so low that I don't want to get out of bed. Is this normal???

cakeladyc · 11/06/2012 11:44

Congrats ladygagoo :)

Welcome newbies!

Childcarewoes I've felt the same for a couple of days but i'm hoping the hormones will get better soon, i've been crying for absolutely no reason too, proper sobbing.

No real updates here, feeling a bit crap at the moment but hoping it'll pass. Kiddo is kicking like mad and feels really high up, but its a lovely feeling.

With regards to boobs, mine are definitely bigger than before (I was a 36DD) but i too am worried that i'm going to struggle with breastfeedin cos I dont have particularly protruding nipples. Not sure if this is goin to make a difference or not...

Childcarewoes · 11/06/2012 11:54

Cakeladyc, thank you. I thought I was the only one going through this. Thanks

cjbk1 · 11/06/2012 13:00

shelly I'm always happy to talk about my boobs I have no shame so mine are wearing size 32c maternity bras which are getting a bit tight so might break out the d cups when we get back from rainy sunny southwold , so they means theyv grown a fair bit and do leak a tiny bit but not using pads yet Wink

Smallgreenone · 11/06/2012 13:18

Congrats ladygagoo lovely news.
On the boobs front mine went up right at the beginning from a D to an F but not changed again for weeks now but I think I'll get measured again soon as the backs feel tight so might be a 34 now rather than 32. Definitely not had any leaking. From what I've read though the size Olof your boobs doesn't matter when it comes to feeding so I wouldn't worry too much. X

MakeTeaNotWar · 11/06/2012 14:20

Congrats ladygagoo lovely news!

Boobs! Mine were a boyish 32A before DD and I never leaked yet we breastfed for a year so I really wouldn't worry shelly, that's what we mammals are meant to do, I don't think size matters one bit. I'm a more generous 34B now but not v comfortable so could probably do with being refitted again

TinkerMaloo · 11/06/2012 14:43

Ladygagoo yay thats great news! :) I am still working on mine, I'll get there eventually!

shelly My boobs grew lots and I leaked loads with my first pregnancy but not a single drop and not much increase with my second, I was worried that I wasnt going to have any milk but it came in after only about 24 hours by the bucketload. This time round theres not much change again, they are a bit fuller but not much, but I have learned to trust them and not to worry, so simply put, dont worry! :)

Welcome to the new joiners!

We had a lovely holiday in Brittany and I didnt want to come home! The cottage was lovely, the weather was (mostly) lovely and the bretons are lovely people (they even let pregnant ladies go to the front of queues in the supermarche! :) )

I just bought DD (20 months) a toddler bed! She says she doesnt want a big girl bed but I have plans for her cot and dont want her to feel like she has been turfed out of it by the newcomer... DP is going to convert it into a bedside co-sleeper contraption so that he doesnt have to sleep downstairs on the sofa bed (theres not enough room for us all in the double, and I need the baby there more than I need him!) I hope she takes to it well....

Take care everyone :) we're almost on the home straight! Xx
