Well done Olivo. Hopefully morn sickness has now passed.
Nursery. Already?? Wow thats soon. I like to leave everything to the last minute then panic and break down....lol.

olivo · 01/03/2006 13:09

had to do the nursery thing, even though its not till april 07 - its one for teachers which is really popular as its open only in term time (so you dont pay for holidays). now got to earn a few pence to pay for it.......

BigHotMama · 01/03/2006 13:28

Hi All,

Thought I'd join you all on this thread, seeing as I just scrape it in (due 1/8/06). Looks like I'll get to top the list!

I'm 18+1 and expecting twins - has any one else got more than 1 on the way?

Boopert · 01/03/2006 15:02

Ohhhh wow.
No, just the one in here. Think two would've pushed dh over the edge!! LOL

trix1 · 01/03/2006 15:21

Congratulations and welcome - Preparing for two. how lovely having twins. Twins are normally born before 36 weeks so you will probably have them end of June/early July. How are you feeling?

BigHotMama · 01/03/2006 15:23

Hey Boopert, I'm from the West Mids but the snow has stopped and the sun is out again now, its like a summer's day! Gorgeous...ROLL ON MATERNITY LEAVE!
JayJay I saw the additions cat and there is some lovely stuff in there, also like Isabella Oliver for more glam wear but will need to save some money first.
Olivo cant believe you've sorted out your mat leave / nursery already? I cant do anything about my mat leave until I've handed over my MATB1 cert and wont get that until my 20 wk scan appointment.

trix1 · 01/03/2006 15:25

Ive sorted out the nursery as well, you have to round here to get a reputatble nursery. When are you all planning to start your maternity and how long are you planning to have off?

BigHotMama · 01/03/2006 15:26

PP2 congrats and welcome..am very Envy of you having twins. I thought I may have been in with a chance as my DH has got 2 sets of twins on his side of family, but then I heard it usually happens if the mother's side has twins in the family? Is that true?

Boopert · 01/03/2006 15:26

Yeah, just had a thick 'flurry' of snow, now got bloody sunshine! Want to build a snowban

trix1 · 01/03/2006 15:27

My dads a twin so I was hoping I would have twins too. Dont know if goes down the mothers side. Rules me out if it does.

BigHotMama · 01/03/2006 15:39

I really dont know where to start with the nursery, its full of our junk so am thinking of doing a big sort out and doing a car boot to get extra cash! Not even sure if we're allowed to decorate it as we are renting and not planning to stay there for longer than another year and half. Its gonna be the most bland looking nursery ever...will have to get some nice soft toys to brighten things up! Any ideas?

Act · 01/03/2006 16:12

Hi PP2 & welcome. I'm not sure if there's any others expecting twins in august..

trix & BHM - in my understanding the hereditary factor increasing your chance of twins is that you often ovulate more than one egg a month because of having higher amounts of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). So I think you could have inherited this trait from your mother OR your father's side, but there being twins in your partner/husbands family should have no effect on you (although it would for your daughter).
Does that make any sense?!!

trix1 · 01/03/2006 16:14

That does make sense Act, how are you keeping have you a big bump now - you are due early August aren't you?

BigHotMama · 01/03/2006 16:35

Cheers Act, (think I get it) does that mean if I have a daughter, she will have higher chance of conceiving twins? I heard a story other day about woman who didnt find out she was having twins until the 20 week scan because at the 1st scan the 2nd baby was probably hiding behind the other - how mad is that?

olivo · 01/03/2006 17:15

BHM - i'm in Jersey and they do things pretty differently here (no free doctors except at hospital, no free dentists, different maternity rights/benefits etc) - i only had to fill in a little form saying when I wanted to be off from and to, then it went to my boss for approval. they havent asked for anything offical (but cant fail to notice my bump, even at nearly 15 wks!Grin)

Trix - I hope to officially start my maternity leave in Sept but fingers crossed, will finish work at the end of the summer term. Have asked to go back after easter.

I'm in a bad mood as I was sick again this afternnon, I hoped it had stopped now ( sorry, I know I shouldnt winge when some of you are still really suffering Blush)

olivo · 01/03/2006 17:17

Welcome preparingfor2! Smile

Act · 01/03/2006 17:41

cheers for asking trix, i am doing pretty well, def better now in 2nd trimester! I do have quite a bump now...I'm just at the point where I'm going to have to start showing it off rather than attempting to hide in baggy jumpers. Bit of a difficult stage for me as my tummy is my worst point and have spent most of my life trying to hide it! How about you?

BHM...i think it does mean if you have a daughter she will have a higher chance of having twins, unless the twins in your dh's family are identical because that just happens by chance and isn't genetic...but bear in mind I get my knowledge from the discovery health channel and I'm not an expert! Wink

preparingfor2 · 01/03/2006 18:39

Hey, thanks for all your kind messages! Unfortunately I can only chat off and on - still at work, ho hum.

I must admit feeling a bit guilty (but sypathetic) reading about the sickness etc some of you have been through, as I have been really well so far - a bit exhausted but not sick or anything (let's hope it stays that way!).

Just on the heredity question, I do have twins in the family as it happens. My grandfather (mum's dad) had sisters who were twins. Unfortunately 1 died as an infant (it was over 90 years ago..), but the surviving one had a daughter who went on to have twins, so that thing about it skipping generations might also be true (haven't managed to get to the bottom of that one yet). I am the first female grandchild in our part of the tree to have any children, and I've got the twins, so it seems to stack up. There are a couple of boys who had just one, but that could be just statistics.

My twins are not identical (so they think), and so were the result of two eggs having been released and fertilised at the same time as Act said. Might even end up with a boy and a girl (not that I mind).

At my 12 week scan she saw it was twins within about 5 seconds, literally! But that's another story that I'm sure can wait til another time... Smile

trix1 · 01/03/2006 19:06

Act - i do have a bump already, I look about six months according to oter people but I dont mind as its just bump at the minute. Ive given up sweets for lent as I was eating them non stop over the last few weeks, i dont usually have them.

Im having a scan tomorrow with my consultant, I think he is going to take me off the progesterone that I have been taking since 4 weeks, I will probably be a bit paranoid if I stop taking them. Also booked in for the triple test although im not sure whether I should have it or not. Im 33 so quite close now to the higher risk age group.

Boopert · 01/03/2006 19:27

Well trix my friend has just had her third baby and she is 35. She also has a 6yo and a 12month old. Talk about forgetting to plan! Baby is nearly 4 weeks.... She found all ok and apart from the usual she looked and felt great.

Boopert · 01/03/2006 19:44

Any ideas on cure for backache? And headache?
