Good morning everyone. Thanks for thinking of me. Am trying to be positive today after last nights scare. and not to be outdone by Boobert and purpletiger... I'm having a pyjama day too Smile

I read that the brain shrinks 6% during pregnancy (but recovers afterwards) cos the little one nicks your long chain fatty acids from it. I'm taking omega 6 supplement 'cos I reckon I'm already at a disadvantage 'cos I breastfeed dd until the start of my threatened miscarriage so my brain hasn't had time to recover from last time!!! Of course, if truth be told, I've always been a bit scatterbrained Grin but I do think my memory is a bit better since taking supplements

Nbg - poor you - hope you've got lots of willing hands to help you pack when your house sells.

Hey, Kitegirl, a woman after my own heart. We've had our organic veg plot for the past 3 years. Its the only bit of the garden we are really enthusiastic about (we leave the flower borders to the MIL when they come to stay Wink ). Its been a steep learning curve but so rewarding. I hope you won't be doing the digging yourself? not really recommended - you are more prone to back injuries with those softened ligaments.
What are you planning on growing? Its an addictive hobby - you wouldn't believe how many compost bins and water butts you sooo need! we ended up getting a second greenhouse 'cos I was so frustrated that I could fit all my tomato plants and peppers in one! Cucumbers always been a disaster for some reason but love the sweetcorn and butternut squash fresh from the garden. Yummy! Apologies to anyone who hates gardening for making the thread longer Wink.

Eve2005 · 16/03/2006 11:27

don't mind gardening ruth louise, just insanely Envy of all of you with the space to do it! living in an apartment on the second floor so have a grand total of about 3 square feet of room outside the front door for pots of plants. oh, and a window box outside my dd's room. hardly room for an organic garden, although i do grow chillies in the kitchen window!

preparingfor2 · 16/03/2006 11:36

A whopping 10 sheets for me on the loo roll test, but I am 20+2 with twins - well that's my excuse!
There's nothing like homegrown tomatoes, and you don't need that much space or time to get good results. Haven't dabbled in gardening for a couple of years, but you have just inspired me to at least plant up some tomatoes for the summer!

Good luck with the digging!

jayjaybaby · 16/03/2006 11:37

eve2005 you can come and do mine for me its bigger than most allotments it takes an hour and half to mow with a petrol mower so im hugleyEnvy of your window boxes

Eve2005 · 16/03/2006 11:48

lol, jay jay. my parents garden when i was a kid was a bit like that, the few bits we did plant up sort of got lost amidst the acres of lawn.

kitegirl · 16/03/2006 12:12

it's too cold to go out and dig. I think I'll have a nap instead and read the gardening book and get dh to do it on Saturday.
how come it's already a mid-day and I have achieved NOTHING...

Eve2005 · 16/03/2006 12:31

supposed to be driving up country to visit parents later today (fun fun fun), haven't even gotten out of pjs yet, never mind actually packed, cleaned, sorted dd or dp..... good god, better start doing something!

olivo · 16/03/2006 12:34

sorry to hear about your dad PF2 - hope there's a seat for you in business.

7 and 1/2 sheets for me at 17 weeks! But still 2lb less than before i was pg so cant complain!
New craving for prawn cocktail full fat crisps will probably sort that one out thoughGrin

melsy · 16/03/2006 12:45

morning girls

IM so zonked all the time since the laryngitis . Daughter was up at crack of dawn , has an aversion to her cot and gets herself out now. Gets in to bed with grumpy me , as every time I out her back she just comes straight back up(our bedroom in loft and she can climb under the gate!!long story). Thankfully her new bed got delivered this morning , but its got to be made yet, shes soooooo excited. I really really want to get it made liek NOW!!!

Im sorry Pf2 , I didnt see that it was your dad who passed. I hope your trip gives you some closure , its hard when pregnant
to lose someone dear x. My papa passed the week after dh and I got engaged.

Awwwww ruthlouise , you really are having a horrid worrying time.
Your strenght thats coming through is admirable.

Kitegirl , lol at wanting nap and getting to do garden , sounds like me. Did you got to portugal ??? Oh yer did you get my email ?

OOh Olivo , Im really fancying prawns now !!

Havent done the loo roll test yet , will check back in when have had lunch, as sitting at kitchen table all shaky and giddy right now. Come on fish fingers be cooked now !!!

ruthlouise · 16/03/2006 13:57

oh Eve - have never grown chillies - that's impressive - I'm too much of a coward to eat them! hot hot hot!

Can you eat prawns when u r pg? We've got a load of smoked salmon in freezer (we love our local waitrose when they've just reduced fish, bread or meat Smile )dd eats it however it comes but I've been cooking mine in microwave which just isn't the same. Then I recently read some MW's say you shouldn't eat any salmon or tuna whilst pg so I stopped eating it and rely on the supplements for my omega 3's. Mmm, it calling to me now....

Nbg · 16/03/2006 14:58

Oooh I've been having a real seafood craving and I don't even like it!
Although I had some scampi the other night which was gorgeous.
My main craving atm is cabbage Blush of all things! Only the spring greens stuff though. Yummy.
My mum and Nan have just been down to visit and they brought some gorgeous ciabattas, ham and a lovely spinach, watercress and rocket salad.
My iron levels should still be good at this rate.

I really fancied growing some veg this year but don't think I'll be doing it now with the move. My mum and dad have just bought an allotment so they're taking orders of what we want.
It'll come in handy when we start weaning the baby!

I've forgot but when is it that we have the next lot of bloods done?
Is it 24 weeks?

PF2, I didn't see that it was your dad that had passed.
I'm so sorry Sad

purpleturtle · 16/03/2006 15:00

I think smoked salmon is fine. My MW said seafood is okay if you know it's fresh, but avoid if you're unsure. She also said just one portion a week of salmon and tuna.

OP posts:
Arabica · 16/03/2006 15:26

yeeeeeeugh seafood! It was one of my favourite things before getting pg. Now, yukkerama! I'm craving chocolate, potatoes, gerkins and dairylea triangles (not all at once)!

Nbg · 16/03/2006 15:37

Or how about a dairylea and gerkin sandwich?

Oh yes, forgot to mention chocolate. Have eaten 6 cream eggs in 2 days along with a huge bar of galaxy Blush

Act · 16/03/2006 15:39

I have developed a thing for pork pies Blush

Arabica, is your scan tomorrow? or is that someone else? hope it goes well if it is.

My scan is next friday - had to move it back so dh could make it.
I am 20 +1 (can't believe I'm finally halfway!)

  • 1 stone ish (trying to convince self it's all baby+water) 8 sheets of loo roll
  • 1 cup size
Nbg · 16/03/2006 15:42

Is everyones MW's weighing them?

Apparently they don't do it here anymore as there was alot of mums dieting whilst pg.
I have no idea how much I've put on.

Also is everyone ok with starting a new thread. Computer says nooooo to adding a message now!

Act · 16/03/2006 15:44

new thread = deffo brill
i haven't been weighed by the MW - at my booking visit she asked my weight and height and just took my word for it - not that i fibbed tho!

Nbg · 16/03/2006 15:45

Well I knew I was 9 stone so I could go and weigh myself.

Nbg · 16/03/2006 15:46

NEW THREAD*

BigHotMama · 16/03/2006 16:07

Afternoon everyone, hope your all well.

I have totally gone off fish altogether so I'm probably lacking in omega oils at mo, what supplements are you taking Ruthlouise?

JayJay, I was a social smoker but packed in as soon as I found out I was pg. The only time I fancy one is when I get a whiff of cig smoke or if I'm in a pub having my '1' half pint of lager'n'lime. I've still got 3 cigs in a box in my drawer but have never even given it a thought. I am definately eating more to compensate for it tho and although I'd like to think I've given up for good even when bab is born, I know as soon as I go out drinking with my mates again after bab, the temptation will be too much to resist.

NBG I didnt know we had more blood tests at 24 weeks? Do you know what they're for?

1 week and counting for my scan x
