I went in hospital at 5cm after labouring for 5 easy hours and as soon as we arrived things started to heat up.
Midwife told me I should give birth within another 4 hours but stupidly I ended up having Pethidine which made me go on an extra 4 more hours, made dd distressed, they found meconium in my waters and I felt like I was dying after the birth so needless to say I won't be having it again.

Nbg · 20/02/2006 13:35

Eve, is the 29th your scan or just a booking in?

melsy · 20/02/2006 13:36

My gawd eve thats a long wait , doesnt seem right. How many weeks will you be ? I think gp is right , I dont think thats acceptable even if it is 2nd. Why not go in on a really emotional day and start crying in front of midwives!!!

eve2005 · 20/02/2006 13:47

that's the plan, full water works!

thats the booking in and the first scan i'll be any where from 21 to 24 weeks! thats the irish healthcare system for you!

my bumps getting quite big so i'm going to go in this week or next on a day i'm paticularly homonal and frighten the life out of them, might pretend i'm even further than i am to scare them!

BigHotMama · 20/02/2006 13:49

Eve, just thought, by the time you have your appointment some of us will have had our 20 week scan by then???!! Surely that cant be right? I'm in agreement with Melsy turn on the waterworks and give them no other choice!

melsy · 20/02/2006 13:53

yep good plan eve , full tilt melt down, listen to some moving music in the car on the way there, really bring it on. I had a right one today listening to josh groban .

Arabica · 20/02/2006 13:54

Hi everyone. I am feeling the occasional bit of movement, but only one kick so far. Like Trix I will feel very relieved when it's proper, unmistakeable and frequent kicks.
I won't be finding out the sex, but am convinced it's a girl; the whole pregnancy has felt so different from last time. A woman at my yoga class has just had 20 wk scan and she made them write down the baby's sex on a bit of paper and seal it in an envelope for her to look at when she felt in the mood! So far it's still on her mantlepiece. I don't think I would have that much willpower.
Eve, can't believe how long they're making you wait. Hope they're not as slack when it comes to the actual birth! Oh sorry madam, we're understaffed. Could you put your contractions on hold 'til next Wednesday?

Nbg · 20/02/2006 14:07

My god Arabica!

Your friend must have the most unbeliveable willpower!!!

Nbg · 20/02/2006 14:07

So of all these kicks.

15 weeks yesterday.

I want to feel something!

eve2005 · 20/02/2006 14:09

for the birth they're fine but god help you afterwards, the ward staff are a joke.

was on a drip last time to stop bleeding and midwife who brought me to ward told me not to go to bathroom by myself, to ring for someone, so naively i did. the nurse who turned up was not pleased and treated me like an idiot for buzzing her.

while i was in toilet my partner attempted his first ever nappy change, she looked over his shoulder announced 'you're doing that all wrong' only to come back 5 minutes later to kick him out completely.

the only times i saw nurses all night were if my dd cried one would come insisting she was hungry (even though she'd been feeding constantly all night) and force me to feed for an hour. i got half an hours sleep that night and had to manage all the nappy changing on my own, attached to a drip even though i'd never changed a nappy before that day!

eve2005 · 20/02/2006 14:13

so sorry everyone, probably frightening the life out of the first timers with these stories!

off to go car hunting for something big enough to hold two babies, a double buggy, and all the baggage that goes with them now.

hope you all get those first kicks soon, will keep you posted on my little appointment drama

pucca · 20/02/2006 18:47

I won't even go there with my birth story with my dd, put it this way..couldn't be any worse than what it was. and i don't want to REALLY scare you all.

Hoping this birth will be alot easier, quicker and with no complications.

purpleturtle · 20/02/2006 20:42

Well I too have been harassing the ante-natal appointments phone line in order to get a scan. It has worked - I am going first thing Wednesday, 8.50am is the latest appt they could give me!

Just means my mother will have to find someone else to make her cups of tea while dad's at work tomorrow evening, and I'll drive down after the scan with a little piccy to show her.

I don't think I'm going to find out the sex of the baby. Didn't with the others.

eve2005 · 21/02/2006 12:12

congrats purpleturtle! hope it goes as well for me!

i didn't find out the sex with my dd but i had a feeling i was having a girl from about three months, to the point where i actually bought girls clothes! thankfully i was right or i'd have had a little boy with a very pink wardrobe!

not so sure this time though, the pregnancy has been so differant so far i think it must be a boy but i have that girl feeling again!

Arabica · 21/02/2006 12:33

Whereabouts are you Eve? Just wondering if there's another hospital you could go to. We're lucky in my part of London as there is a choice, Homerton or UCL.

eve2005 · 21/02/2006 12:47

hey arabica, in galway in ireland so not much choice.

got a lovely gp though who lives 100 feet down the road so i'm safe enough even if the hospital is useless, just really want to see baby to put my mind at rest, silly really, our mothers didn't ever get scans and we're all ok!

Arabica · 21/02/2006 14:15

That's true, Eve! No scans, no options about birth, no fathers allowed in the delivery suite, no breastfeeding support (hmm, that hasn't actually changed much in some hospitals...)

eve2005 · 21/02/2006 15:03

yeah, could be alot worse, could live in america where you only get scans if you can afford them! i'd never have any if that was the case!

snic · 21/02/2006 17:53

bhm, i was only in labour 90 mins. was 10cm by the time i got to hospital, didnt have any choice about pain relief i just had to get on with it. i wouldnt change it for the world but it was quite overwhelming, which is why midwife suggested waterbirth, said thay could have it ready for me if i ring ahead and it could be more relaxing this time.

pucca · 21/02/2006 18:06

I have been feeling the flutters the last couple of days, love the feeling! it is so fab!

Anyone else feeling movements?

Arabica · 21/02/2006 18:33

just occasional kind of knocks and flaps rather than flutters! Still not entirely convinced it isn't gas.

Boopert · 21/02/2006 18:34

Hi everyone! Just wondering if i can join in? New to this.... Not pregnancy, chat thing! Have ds and now have what i think will be dd! Due Beg Aug (apparently)Am i the only one to be getting Braxton Hicks??

jayjaybaby · 21/02/2006 20:28

HI EVERY1 joined slimming world today it was so nice to go back to my old group there was lots of congratulations due to people shrinking me expanding for the right reasons saw tracy the lady i was talking about who loast 4 and a half stone i was informed to day she has lost a further 1 1/2 stone since and she was saying how good she felt through her pregnancy because it's a healthy eating plan etc still got no feeling should i i'm 14 wks thought i felt something today but had walked very fast to get to bus stop not something i make a habit of lol

mojomummy · 21/02/2006 20:40

Hi ladies, yep I'm feeling the flutters, have been for a couple of weeks now. I'm 16 weeks & 2nd baby.

Went for my 16wk checkup today & the Dr listened to the heart pounding away Gin

I'm getting a bit of a massive belly on me - I'm 5ft 3 & 8st 5.5 lb, have put on a few lb, but boy the belly is here ! Of course, not enough to wear maternity clothes & my 'normal' clothes are getting almost too tight.

mojomummy · 21/02/2006 20:54

another thing - is anyone itchy ? I am SOOOO itchy. I've scratched myself in various place & made myself bleed - not on purpose of course.

Mentioned it to the dr & have some aveeno & oliatum (sp?) on perscription.

Told her about the constipation & she told me to eat fruit/veg/bran..yawn..this is so boring...I'm not constipated because of what I eat, but because I'm pregnant..grrrr. Now have lactulose, which is gross, but, thankfully does the trick. I've already had a couple of episodes & had terrible piles a month ago & last pregnancy. Hope to get it under control this time
