Yay Too for 2 weeks today!!!! GrinGrinGrin

I did wonder about if the period pains were 'a sign' but then again I think it's maybe wishful thinking!! Confused

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 24/02/2012 11:44

Little F is soooooooooooo cute Hawthers! You must be a very proud mama! Sorry to hear about the ongoing weigh in issues, but F is healthy and growing (at his own pace) so this will all pass soon. Well done to you for sticking to your guns on this. DS1 sounds like such a sweetie as well!

Woohoo congrats to Too!! I had a sudden thought that maybe, just maybe, in 5 or 6 weeks' time I could be in your position!! I'm so excited for you!!

Loving the bump pic Scarlet! Good luck for your scan later!

So we have Pomme and Purple who will be kicking off this weekend Biscuits sounds like she's also only moments away! Grin Too and Dream are growing very nicely whilst waiting for their scheduled dates It's all very exciting!

By the way, our stats thread is pretty crowded with people who haven't been around for a long time, and scans that have already happened. I was wondering if it's worth starting a new stats thread? So only people who are still around can put themselves on? Also perhaps we leave off the scan dates this time? What does everyone think?

scarletfingernail · 24/02/2012 11:55

Eeeeekk!!! My 32 week scan showed that the baby is weighing 5lb already Shock. I know it's not an accurate measurement and I'm trying to take it with a pinch of salt, but I could see for myself that it looked a little tubster. The abdominal circumference measurement is right on the very top centile, which they want to keep an eye on so I have to go back for another scan in 4 weeks time.

It was a lovely scan though. We had a really close up look at it's face, lovely little nose and gorgeous lips. Chubby cheeks and long legs. It must be running out of leg space as it had both feet right up by it's head Grin It was head down to start with but actually moved to transverse while we were watching. I was told that I'll definitely know when my waters go as there's a lot in there, so that was reassuring. I didn't experience any massive gushes with DS, just trickles.

So, I'm a bit worried about the size of it but they did say it's not a major concern at this stage. If it's still showing as big next time, we'll talk about what that might mean Confused

Hawthers how lovely to read your update and hear that DS1 is back to his usual self. Mini H is gorgeous and looks very healthy indeed. Sorry to hear about his weight issues, sounds like you're doing everything you possibly can.

Biscuitsandtea · 24/02/2012 12:39

Oh Wowsers Scarlet! Must be something in the water round here!!

Panic not - we can deal with these bigguns!! (she says hopefully Confused). How much did DS weigh? He came a bit late though didn't he?

Did they suggest they might look at ELCS if it was still big at 36 weeks?

They seemed to be completely unperturbed by me pushing out a big baby Hmm but I wonder if they are just banking on me being early again? I have another scan booked at 38 weeks but it isn't technically a growth scan, it's to check the volume of fluid. I can assure you though, if I am near a scanning machine and still preggers at 38 weeks, it will most certainly be on my agenda, even if not on theirs!

How lovely to see your wee wriggly bean again though (even if it does look a bit cramped!)

scarletfingernail · 24/02/2012 12:51

Biscuits I did ask if they'd consider delivering me early if it was still on the large side at the next scan and they said no. They don't do inductions or ELCSs just for big babies, but the consultant would make a definite decision nearer the time as they'd have to look into why it's big Confused.

This was one of the registrars, the consultant was called into theatre. I guess I'll have to wait 4 weeks and if I have further questions after that I'll ask to speak to the consultant myself if possible. She then started going on about shoulder dystocia and how that becomes more of a risk and I just wanted to stick my fingers in my ears and do the "la la la" thing. Sooo not what I wanted to hear.

They said it's organs where all average sized and healthy looking, so the AC measurement indicated that's it's just a bit porky. Seems alien to me, DS was so long and scrawny and weighed 7lb 14oz at birth, 3 days overdue.

I'm brooking no argument that this scan was just a one off, random, off skew measurement and next time I go, it'll be a completely average 50th centile bean again Hmm

Biscuitsandtea · 24/02/2012 12:57

Eeeek - also lalala-ing about the shoulder thing! They never mentioned trying to work out why ours was big - they've just said well its because you both are! (even though I'm decidedly average height, even if I am overweight!

Hope you get to see the consultant next time though to get some answers.

When I had two scans within a week a few weeks back they showed a lot of variation in the measurement - as in there's no way the baby could have moved up the charts so much in 5 days Confused. So I think they do vary a bit, plus there's a big margin of error on it anyway. So lets do some brooking that really it's not going to be so big, and it is long and skinny like DS.

jaggythistle · 24/02/2012 14:04

aah, you guys are so busy! struggling to keep up too.

2 weeks too! exciting. :)

yay for good scans, brooking that yours was a blip scarlet.

hiya imps, nice cartwheels. i prob won't post a name, but might be persuaded to pm interested parties. Grin

bloody tired from wandering for miles round work. also managed to look like a tool in front of various managers in the process.

someone borrowed a piece of equipment from the lab and didn't bring it back when promised, causing chaos when i needed it for something else. they also couldn't be contacted. luckily a nice man (different manager) heard about me tramping round like an idiot and picked me up in a car to get a spare one. also gave me a lift where i needed to go. i was so relieved! my work is huge btw it's not just me being lazy, takes about 5 mins walking fast just from car park to lab.

and totally tmi, my super comfy new trousers have totally chafed my inner thighs while striding around. ouch!

...and relax. Blush

DreamingOfPeace · 24/02/2012 14:09

right biscuits and scarlet, we're not stressing about silly growth scans, LOADS of error on them and one alone is not an indicator!!!! scarlet, glad baby looked good, sure all will be fine and the next scan and don't panic! One of mine was not so far behind you at 4lb 2 dead on 32 weeks. I have joined a FB twins group and someone had posted saying their 28 week growth scan had babies at X and X weights, what were other peoples' experiences. Millions of responses saying 'I had my scan the day before I went into labour and they said the babies would weigh X and Y but they actually weighed Z and Q' And this is the intensive growth scanning of the twin/triplet mob where you might think from repetitive scanning they'd have a better idea. Sometimes babies were bigger, sometimes smaller. Not often accurate!! (says she- stressing big time over going into labour because these babies plot exactly like DD did- 50th centile AC, FL, but 75th + centile head circumference- eeeeek!!!! Big tear territory?! Beg for CS if I go into labour or go for VB!? Not encouraged that baby 2 is bigger too- imagining having a baby then having a bigger one is not helping me!)

biscuits, my BH have really ramped up, slight upset tummy yesterday and ?nesting ('the house is a mess, manic tidy session) made me wonder if I was going to go into labour. No sign! (phew). However, you are much more likely to really go into labour than me- I'm expecting babybiscuitcrumb in a couple of weeks max!!!

Two weeks too Grin Grin Grin

How's mw appointment gone musical?

Hello fishcake glad you're still ok. Lack of sleep and heartburn are killers though...

hawthers, he's simply gorgeous. He looks content and alert. Not like a baby starving to me!!! Is he quite content or unsettled and unhappy after feeds? You are in a totally different situation to me, but when I was stressing about weight gain a bit after dropping down the centiles a lot, my DD wasn't gaining well but was content after feeds, not screaming all the time, not massively whingey/crying- normal baby levels! Which was when we decided to actively stop weighing her. End of. Not saying you should do this, but if he seems happy try not to panic!! He's so beautiful! And I can't wait til DD can say anything 'I luff mummy'. Grin

jaggythistle · 24/02/2012 14:24

Aw, lovely new pic of DS2 hawthers :)

Biscuitsandtea · 24/02/2012 15:19

Finally got to check out the pic of Hawther's DS2 - how utterly gorgeous is he!!!! And as others have said he looks alert and happy - you're growing a little star there Hawthers Smile. And the pic of DS1 is gorgeous too Smile

hawthers · 24/02/2012 16:00

Aw thanks guys [proud mummy emoticon].

F is alert and content etc and meeting all the indicators that he is going ok but is about to fall off the bottom of the growth charts. Have a lovely consultant (back in bloody children's outpatients again - ds1 only got discharged from there just before Christmas) and plan if action in place. Unfort can't avoid weigh ins much as I'd like to as all hcps want to keep an eye in how the plan is going. Also having broad spectrum tests to make sure all is functioning ok. Pretty sure its just a hangover from the meningitis.

Am so excited to hear all you gearing to for the new arrivals. I never bothered with perineal massage - thank god as I had a cs! My mw said that she thought it didn't make that much difference but it was good coaching from a mw that made the diff re tears. Good luck to all and I'll continue to lurk

Wants3 · 24/02/2012 18:26

Pain in the butt still around today and it did keep me awake abit in the night but the bath helped.
Had a midwife appointment today, she commented on my lack of huge weight gain( about 7lbs so far) and I measured 27 cms FH at 28+1 so why do people keep saying I am huge or bigger than their friends who are further on etc! These measurements are normal arent they?

Biscuitsandtea · 24/02/2012 18:45

Sorry the pain is still there Wants Sad

Impressed at only 7lb weight gain though - I'd put that much in in about the first 8 weeks! Blush

And as far as I know they go for FH = no. weeks +/- 2 so at 28 weeks anything between 26 and 30 would be fine.

So you sound completely spot on to me Smile. As for everyone else poking their oar in offering their well thought out comments, I think that is just the ridiculous effect that pregnancy seems to have on people that makes them think they are entitled to say all sorts of things that they'd never say to someone who wasn't pregnant!

I'm glad I've been pg over the winter this time as mostly my coat has hidden my bump and thus stopped complete randoms feeling the need to comment on or poke my bump. Although one of the nursery people when I mentioned something about the baby said 'oh, I did wonder if you were pregnant, or if your coat was just a bit bulky' Hmm Errr, thanks Sad!

DreamingOfPeace · 24/02/2012 18:59

I really think people in general have no idea how big a pregnant woman 'normally' is at each stage. For me, and I'm obviously big for dates, some say I'm huge, I'll pop, others I'm tiny, there can't be two in there, its so neat. There's no pleasing some people wants and you sound like you're doing the right thing and measuring correctly. I'm going to go and try and do my own fundal height now, or get dh to do it....

pommedechocolat · 24/02/2012 19:41

I agree with people making random comments on birth. I've been told i am both massive and tiny by friends so now ignore!

I had a show this am but still nothing and am exhausted totally wiped out. Still reckon induction on Monday. Still just on phone so no photo peeking yet grr.

Hawthers - great news about ds1 and lots of brooking for little f. Don't let the hcps worry you unduly. Xx

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 24/02/2012 19:47

Oooooo Pomme a show!!! There's still two full days of No Brooking ahead, we can beat the induction deadline!

Wants both your weight gain and fundal measurement sound exactly the same as mine two weeks ago (at 28 weeks, I'm now 30 weeks) and no one has raised any concerns. Just ignore all the random comments! easier said thtan done of course

Biscuitsandtea · 24/02/2012 19:48

Yay for the show Pomme! Grin you still have 2 days to knock this baby out before induction. I prescribe pineapple and curries for the weekend Smile. Perhaps some long walks?

DreamingOfPeace · 24/02/2012 19:56

Yeah pomme, it ain't over til.that drip's up, maybe I'll be right with my money on labour 48 hours after your sweep?! Eek!! Sorry you're feeling so exhausted though...

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 24/02/2012 20:17

Oooh, a show, Pomme? Excitement!

Feck, I just dyed my hair and my hairline is now dark brown in splotches. What do I do? I'm going to wash it again tomorrow morning to get the horrible chemical smell out and then the hairdresser will wash it again at lunchtime (overkill, I know, but I can't help myself) so maybe that will clean my hairline? It's not meant to be dark brown, either, it's meant to be 'medium golden brown', otherwise known as my attempt to return my hair to its natural colour so I don't have to fuss with it for months. It's not dried yet so it's hard to tell what colour it will be in the end, but it does look a bit dark.

Wants, your measurements are dead on normal, so ignore, ignore, ignore! People are so weird about pregnant women. Being told "oh, you look huge, do you really still have 5 weeks to go?" is always going to make me want to smack the speaker.

Scarlet, your bean will NOT have shoulder dystocia because it is a No Brooking Bean. Fact.

OP posts:
Biscuitsandtea · 24/02/2012 20:22

Too - to get hair dye off skin, i think baby wipes work? Frightening really, what baby wipes can get off!!

scarletfingernail · 24/02/2012 20:31

Oooh good news about the show Pomme I reckon things might start for you over the weekend.

Too the hairdye will come off next time you wash it, if it doesn't, your hairdresser will have something to get it off. I'm intrigued about the baby wipes, let us know if you have success. I used baby wipes to clean my leather sofa, they worked amazingly.

I hope the BH's aren't too uncomfortable dream

Biscuitsandtea · 24/02/2012 20:35

I'm sure baby wipes are supposed to work. There's something else that you'd probably have in your house too but I can't remember. Confused is it nail polish remover or something?

But yes, Scarlet is right - the hairdressers have something for it too.

Sadly to dye my hair so you couldn't see my roots, I'd need a brown dye with grey highlights Sad

NinjaChipmunk · 24/02/2012 21:03

ooh a show! fantastic news. pomme I am excited for you. For some reason the fact that you have said you've had a show has made the fact that I'm actually going to have to go into labour in a few months become slightly more real Hmm

Wants3 · 24/02/2012 21:11

Thanks everyone for your positive comments! The other thing is that due to a computer klitch my midwife did not have my glucose load test results so people say these things about the size of my bump not considering that I am already worried about diabetes and they just add to it!!
I did have a nice afternoon with my sister, nephew and my mum who was over from France for a few days though:)
It could be an exciting weekend for our no brooking babies!

musicalmrs · 24/02/2012 22:24

Pomme, a show is so exciting! Grin Brooking that things get moving..!

Hawthers, Farley is looking gorgeous! :)

Too and Fishcake, what's Shred?

MW appointment went well thanks Dream! We talked about the discharge/waters issue, and she agreed it was discharge. She did say I did everything right though, but if I were incredibly concerned I could call her or the delivery suite.

Other good things at MW appointment: Baby is head down, hurrah! I think it's still moving around quite a bit, but good to know that it's getting the right idea.

Had a lovely day out in London today. Went to see Mamma Mia - LO was clearly enjoying it! Wonder if this means it'll be an Abba fan..! Feeling completely full of cold though - yesterday I just felt a bit sniffly in the morning, but today it's full on head/body/nose cold. Yick. Exhausted! Why does it always happen when I have a few days off?

I did have a lovely preggo experience in the theatre though! A HUGE queue for the ladies toilets at the interval, and lots of lovely ladies told me to go in front of them :) I'm very grateful as otherwise I wouldn't have got in before the show started again (one of these theatres with nowhere near enough toilets). Was feeling so tired and coldy at this point that their loveliness almost made me cry!

Brooking for no stress for those of you with recent growth scans - Biscuits, Dream and Scarlet! As well as extra brooking for Pomme of course..!
