Quick quick, votes- to wake dd so i can have yet another wee and more rennies or let her sleep? She is poorly- cough, cold, manky eyes that smell...nice. or let her sleep? She is sweet cuddled into me... oh, am i stuffing another night for myself?!

DreamingOfPeace · 20/02/2012 15:59

biscuits, my dh nipped into town to buy some carpets and get a subway when i was in labour...

I was starved for cs throughout my labour. Not even water and gas and air doesn't half dry your mouth out...

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 20/02/2012 16:01

I shall be organising a proper post-section lunch for myself - decent M&S sandwiches and fruit, at least. I refuse to eat the crappy hospital lunches unless I absolutely have to. I want smoked salmon, mmm. I shall also be investing in peppermint oil capsules for the post-section wind, as I hate peppermint tea. It tastes like someone dissolved chewing gum in hot water, bleurgh!

Dream, I haven't done my hospital bag either yet, mainly because I have been a bit broke this month and I need to go buy mat pads, breast pads, peppermint oil capsules, Lansinoh and mini shampoo, conditioner etc. Also, my wardrobe is so limited right now that I can't pack any clothes until closer to the time. I am going to take a comfy dress and maternity tights to come home in, to avoid any pressure on the CS wound, and I need to test-drive my pyjamas for potential wound pressure and ease of BF. DH bought me a HotMilk nightie but it is v sexy with lots of black lace and I think I will feel ridiculous wearing it on a ward.

Panic over, dd awake- I woke her up with my coughing, oops!

Biscuitsandtea · 20/02/2012 16:21

Carpets Dream Shock

PopcornMouse · 20/02/2012 16:44

carpets! Shock
Could you take some mouthwash to re-hydrate your mouth a bit or will you not really care by that point ?

So far I'm just suffering nausea on and off but no actual sickness, plus sore boobs and terrible indigestion - so I think I've gotten off lightly, really!

I think I'm just getting really neurotic because it took so long ttc, I can't quite believe I'm definitely upduffed :o Thanks for all the kind words, I'm going to try not to mental and will sweettalk DH later!

Biscuitsandtea · 20/02/2012 16:56

For what it's worth Pops my DH wasn't keen on a scan at first. He was f the opinion that 'it wouldn't change the outcome' (which is technically true but not really the point). However it wasn't long before he came round when he realised how much he was stressing about it too. By the time the scan came round he couldn't believe we hadn't had a scam when pg with DS!

Good luck with the sweet talking Smile

Wants3 · 20/02/2012 17:50

biscuits twix extra is about a 3rd longer than a normal twix! Normal sized ones are just not medicinal enough!
Midwife kindly added the routine 28 week ones to my gt so that she will have results when I see her on fri, instead of taking blood twice in one week. I am quite glad as I have a needle bruise and arm still sore when I flex it!
popcorn with ds1&2 I only had 20 week scan, imagine the potential stress and worry. Make the most of modern practices and technology to book and early scan to put your mind at ease. Then you can start to relax into your pregnancy and look forward to seeing little bean again a few weeks later:)

DreamingOfPeace · 20/02/2012 18:06

But biscuits and pops, the carpet was on offer for that one day only....!!! Hmm and we do now have a nice sitting room/ playroom carpet.

Persuaded dd to eat a very small amount of cheese omelette coated in a very large amount of ketchup. Her diet is so bad! She's had cake and a few mini eggs too, just so she's eaten something . She's totally manipulative about food when well too Blush

scarletfingernail · 20/02/2012 18:52

Another stressful day in the house of scarlet. I can't even think about my hospital bag, it makes me panic too much when I think that I might actually need it soon when we still have so much going on in the house. 31+3 today Shock

I think I've been pregnant in my bum since expecting DS!

Brooking for good GTT results for you Wants

Popcorn good luck persuading DH for the early scan. I had 1 at 8 weeks and at 10 weeks (NHS) and it really did help so much with the anxiety. I'd try to wait until you've passed the 8 week mark if you can though. You'll feel so much better once you've seen a hearbeat at that stage.

dream I hope DD is on the mend soon.

pommedechocolat · 20/02/2012 19:13

Hello all! Popcorn - id book a scan too if I were you. In fact I had nhs scans at 6 and 10 weeks and still paid for a private one at 8!! To be fair the 10 week was an unexpected one during consultant app but still probably quite a lot.

Dream - so sorry to hear about your dd still being ill. I would try not to worry about her diet too much (easier said than done I know) maybe vitamin drops if you're really worried?

Hate posting on my phone as I've forgotten what everyone wrote now grr.

I'm only going to be allowed water during this labour but last time I only had drinks anyway. I don't think I even thought about food!

Purple - bump definitely lower! You might have your ds before I have dd2 at this rate! No bh today but one intense one during the night. Come on body/baby!

musicalmrs · 20/02/2012 20:00

Hi all! Sorry for being so quiet - madly busy here trying to get as much work for school done as possible.

Popcorn, I'd definitely go for the early scan! :) I think it was around 8 weeks that we had our early scan, and it really calmed us both down. That was for medical reasons (for all the bleeding!), but I think I might have gone insane before 12/13 weeks if I had to wait that long...

Jen, I've had a few bits of period pain recently. But none of the bouts have been particularly long, so if it's happening a lot or for long periods of time, I'd definitely get it checked out...

Biscuits, I think DS picking something pink isn't a problem at all! But I like others' suggestions of limiting his selection if you are overly concerned - that way he still gets to make a choice :)

Dream, is it you that suggested the creme egg ice cream? I've had that - think it's fab! I'm pretty sure it's available all year round at some places, as we had it a few months ago? :) Also - creme eggs for the hospital bag - genius!

Too, why peppermint oil for the hospital bag? To help happify your digestive system after the big event?

Thanks to those of you who swear by Rennies - was it Biscuits and Dream? I haven't been to see my doctor, but they're working so much better than the Gaviscon I nabbed off of DH!

Have been getting a lot of BH over the last few days - not painful (though sometimes uncomfortable if walking), but lots of them. I've also had (TMI alert!) a lot of dampness today, that I'm worried could mean I'm leaking fluid rather than anything else. I say worried.. actually I'm remarkably calm and serene! I'm hoping that means that nothing's wrong, but we'll see. Still getting lots of movement from UBB, so if something is wrong at least I know that it's ok for the moment :) Have put a pad on and am semi-reclined, so we'll see..

Waiting for DH to go out so I can find something unhealthy to eat. I've eaten amazingly healthily all day, and I'm now desperate to ruin it with something very sweet, sickly and tasty!

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 20/02/2012 21:20

Sadly engaged baby doesn't mean anything according to google :( I need something like contractions or a hefty show really.

I am hoping the masterplan is working, and attribute the drop in my bump to sitting on my ball. Still Shock at the sudden change though!

Music it could just be discharge? It is supposed to ramp up later on in pg or could be an little infection... Hopefully not your waters! Still pad is a good idea and if in doubt go get checked out! Hope you get your sweet fix soon :)

Peppermint is for gassy discomfort post cs.

Dream your DH is bonkers! Although, I guess it is a good sign he was so relaxed...!

DreamingOfPeace · 20/02/2012 21:34

My dh is scrooge personified careful with money...

musical, I have also had more dampness, and what I thought was a little gush when coughing, but as nothing else I think its just discharge. When I had a 'hindwater' break last time I woke up at 5am thinking I'd wet myself, odd as no bladder problems, went to the loo, fine, walked back to bedroom and felt another little gush- and it just kept on like that. It was fairly rapidly clear it was my waters where this isn't iykwim.

purple engaged baby doesn't necessarily mean anything but all that birth ball activity at Chez Purple may get baby moving against your cervix and kick things off, along with the rest of your action plan.

And.come on pommes dd2- noone wants an induction if you can just turn up on time (which is NOW baby), chop chop, time to show your face!!!

scarletfingernail · 20/02/2012 21:48

Can I ask a question re the birth ball?

Mine arrived last week and other than sitting on it, rotating, moving backwards and forwards and bouncing, is there anything else I'm supposed to do with it? I'm desperate to not have another back to back labour so want to make sure I'm using it correctly? Am I supposed to be able to feel the baby move into a certain position while I'm actually on it?

I know I sound really thick asking that Blush

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 20/02/2012 22:01

Nothing wrong with being careful with money. Wink

I would love to have the baby asap any time in Feb after the 26th is perfect... but my precautions are all so that I hopefully won't get induced or go to 40+13! + At least I have tried my best and it is keeping me entertained too.

If I can make my cervix soft I am more likely to have sweeps work, although I asked the MW I saw at 36 weeks and she said they wouldn't do it until 41 weeks when I had been told 40 before! So I will make it my mission to see the MW who said 40 and beg for a sweep. Although, I am slightly Hmm at my eagerness to have some stranger stick their hand up my fanjo, I guess it is going to happen anyway though so might as well embrace it!

I have also been much amused by Dh telling me about how concerned his boss and some of the clients are about when I go into labour and Dh is off for two weeks, I didn't realise it would have such far reaching affects! Apparently, it is the subject of emails and Chris has mentioned my [edited] baby eviction plan and his boss basically blanched. Wink

A lot of self obsessed wittering there, I am good at that today!

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 20/02/2012 22:03

Scarlet that is basically all I have been doing, also just sitting while on laptop .etc There are exercises you can do too but that is more for fitness. Google and youtube are your friend I think :)

Oh and I only realised baby had moved when I got out of bed and noticed my bump had gone down significantly!

DreamingOfPeace · 20/02/2012 22:16

purple I am also careful with money, but in a rational, normal person kind of way. DH is OTT, then spends faster than you can say 'you bought WHAT?!' on bizarre things sometimes... Hmm

cough cough cough cough cough. This is me and DD. My pelvic floor is being tested... holding up so far just

DreamingOfPeace · 20/02/2012 22:17

purple I was told 41 weeks for sweeps for first labour, anything from 39 weeks for second labour. I think your first mw was right

DreamingOfPeace · 20/02/2012 22:18

and biscuits, we caught another mouse in our garage today Sad. I'm worried because we've now taken the back 2 seats out of my minibus car and stored them in there- worried about mice ruining them and making my 7 seater car a wreck...

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 20/02/2012 22:28

Hope your right Dream! I want them asap and as many as poss if it will help.

I try to be careful, but have splurged on my nappy bag Blush oh and pushchair, but the resale value on pushchair should be great and is perfect for our needs + 3 year warranty. The bag I think I will keep possibly forever as I already have nice memories, I know they last well and will be a great weekend bag/holdall once nappies not needed and I needed a treat after the past few months we have had!

And Mice. Yuck Yuck Yuck. Get a cat or something :/ I love one of my cats to bits and the other one is beloved of DD and doesn't mind being pushed around in a her dolls pram. lol

Maybe move the seats?

Sorry you feel so ill still, but respect to your pelvic floor with its history, and twins sat on it! Something to be proud of, I think :)

pommedechocolat · 20/02/2012 22:32

I am also very very impressed by your pelvic floor dream! I can now only sneeze just after going to the toilet.

purple I've been dreaming of a show too! Is there anyway to tell if cervix is soft by amateur routing around or is it something only people who really know what theyre doing can find now?

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 20/02/2012 22:35

Pomme I wouldn't really know, but if it is firm like the tip of your nose it isn't ready, if it soft like your top lip it is good, is what my MW said to me. Have a root around and do tell Wink in the spirit of tmi and this thread... I did have a try, but can't even do my own perineal massage so twas a no go!

jaggythistle · 20/02/2012 22:39

Hello,

Stuck at work late so really making use of the time Grin

Actually I have done some paperworky stuff. Emailed boss and team to let them know the task was done and my boss just mailed me back - does she never put down the laptop???

purple I think it was you asking - yes I am hoping for a VBAC. I am going to hang out on my ball a lot - as soon as DH gets it out of the loft for me. My last EMCS was pretty much due to DS's wonky position apparently.

I sat on it a lot last time - my waters actually went while I was bouncing on it I think.

Is leaning over it not meant to be good to help positioning too? I was thinking of lounging on it and watching TV for a bit too. I can see DS getting a bit excited and trying to pinch it though.

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 21/02/2012 00:57

I didn't realise using the ball had any impact on the position of the baby. I've been using my ball a lot to build up my core muscles, and my LO is always head down as far as everyone can tell, it doesn't seem like she spends any time breech at all. Perhaps the two things are related! The only thing I had previously heard about for improving the baby's position is the being on all fours thing (where the mw tries to convince you that there are medical benefits to scrubbing the floor in your last few weeks of pregnancy! Hmm). If the ball thing works as well maybe I should stop using it! If my LO turned around to breech I would get an automatic cs instead of having to fight for it! Grin

We had our first NCT class tonight, which was very interesting. I didn't learn anything new, but given the sheer volume of research I've been doing while stuck at home I'm not expecting to actually learn anything from the course. I've got the theory of all this pretty much nailed I'm just hopelessly clueless about putting the theory into practice, and that's not going to change until my LO arrives! It was interesting meeting everyone though, and that's the main reason I signed up. Several of the people there seem like they could be really nice. It's just the teacher I didn't warm to! It was great to get out of the house and meet new people though, it's the first thing that's actually pulled me out of the funk I've been in for the last few days!
