Here's to our tiny beans and all the lovely ladies lost along the way.

Hi all, congratulations to those who have had their 12week scans this wekk, lovely to hear all the good news. I have to wait until next weds for mine, cant wait! Even though i had a private reassurance scan at 8 weeks, I am still worried something will be wrong. I think when youve had a mc in the past, it's always in the back of your mind. Wish I could be more positive!
I got my appointment for my 20week scan through today!! It is on the 24th April- I havent even got the 12 week one out of the way yet!

My sickness is starting to subside now, at 11 weeks, although i am feeling sooo tiredand have been going to bed at 8.30pm.

I'm starting to feel uncomfortable in normal clothes, they seem to cut my belly in half so i look really fat, and feel awful. I went to mothercare and bought some maternity leggings which are like a tights material, and they are so comfy, just a bit too big so ive had to put a safety pin in them.

Hope everyone has a good weekend, I am working :-(, but at least it will go quick. Roll on next week!

elliemay80 · 24/02/2012 13:24

Good news here. Had the 12 week scan today (a week after my last '12 week scan' which found that the fetus was a bit behind in dates) Baby has caught up. EDD is still 4/9 as per LMP dates. Phew! Measured 62.8 mm so has grown a good 20 mm in a week! NT measurement was 1.4 which is normal but have to wait two weeks for letter to confirm low risk with blood test results (or phone call sooner if there's a problem)

Tummy is growing at a rate of knots so glad there is a good reason behind that rather than just a result of all the salt and vinegar crisps I have been consuming!

Good luck to others with scans coming up.

rightontime · 24/02/2012 13:26

Pgreen what about a lighter aerobics/dance class. I havent done zumba but understand it is quite intense. You dont have to give up exercise until you feel like it. Maybe ask your instucter for advice.

I had a c section with my first DS. That seems to have been forgotton this time round because i now have other issues. From what i can remember i was similar to quitcomplaining in that the catheter was in and then in pain after that. I made myself get up and move around at the end of day 2 and on day 3 because i wanted to go home.

rightontime · 24/02/2012 13:35

Congratulations ellie on a good scan :-)

Thali34 · 24/02/2012 13:57

elliemay that's great news! :)

ahhhpushit I really feel for you - hope today hasn't been as bad as expected, but that you get through it ok. Sounds exhausting. At least its the weekend, right?

flipflopper I also have my 12 week scan next Wednesday (although I'll be 12+6!), and I think ballroom too. Nice to have some buddies. I can't wait, and yet I'm terrified too.

sasslejaney84 · 24/02/2012 13:58

Everyone has had brilliannt scan results this week!! Hoping this bodes well for mine on tuesday!! Can't wait!!

With zumba, I'd suggest just doing what you can, zumba is about what you feel ready to do so go for it! If you feel you can do it, then do it!

pamplem0usse · 24/02/2012 14:35

Can I add to the C-section chat; sorry I haven't had much chance to post recently (house renovation, PhD, toddler....)
Had a failed induction with my DD followed by an emergency section.
The worst bits from my memory were:

  • desperately ringing my buzzer to get them to change the cathetar bag before it exploded because they'd forgotten
  • not feeling able to reach my DD that first night (section at 1.44am), no-one responding to buzzer, and knowing I needed to change her nappy.... in the end it waited until my DH arrived at 7.30 the next day...
-general immobility. Don't really remember a lot of pain (though had an emergency epi top up during the section because I could feel what was going on.... ouch)..... -infection on my wound
  • passing wind as they sorted me out post-op (TMI i know!) so embarassing....
Not sure whether to have an elective or go for a VBAC this time around so can't have been that bad!
rightontime · 24/02/2012 17:36

pample That first night I fell asleep with DS on my chest when I woke up to feed him I realised that I actually couldn't move. To sit up after a section you sort of need to roll on your side and ease yourself up rather than stomach crunching to sit up iyswim, and rolling just isn't possible with a newborn on your chest on a narrow hospital bed. Luckily the lady in the next bed rang the bell for me.

york67 · 24/02/2012 17:57

pamplem0usee I was in your position last time. Was encouraged to go for a VBAC. Unfortunately, it failed so I had a section. It did make me wonder why i tried for a VBAC but I suppose I would have regretted not trying for a vaginal delivery. This time I have to have a section.
rightontime I remember ds falling asleep on me post section and the MW being happy for us to co-sleep. The next morning she was discharging a patient and telling her not to co-sleep.

ballroomblitz · 24/02/2012 20:30

Yes my scan is next wed too although I will only be 10+6. Seems really early but I suppose it's only a day off 11 weeks.

I'm petrified as well Thali. Don't know why. Worried about what the consultant will say too. The thought of bringing up all the past of what happened to ds and that pregnancy feels a bit overwhelming atm.

I know my notes say vbac for this time but I'm considering asking for c-section. More a control issue than anything.

I've been so shattered lately and I have been sleeping ok at night, albeit going to bed late 9and had a horrible dream about bleeding some nights). Have had to go for a kip once I get home at 4pm the last three days. Am now child-free as I'm away for the weekend with dp so hopefully a lot of relaxing on the agenda.

Have a lovely drama-free weekend everyone.

Bakeroo · 24/02/2012 21:12

Great to hear of everyone's positive scans! Such a relief.
I find sleeping with a pillow pulled in towards my tummy makes me so much more comfortable. I too haven't been uncomfortable sleeping for weeks and think it's because I'm used to having the option of sleeping on my front but obviously no longer so the pillow really helps(although is quite bulky) can anyone recommend an official pregnancy pillow to buy?
Last night I slept through the whole night without getting up for a wee! I woke up this morning delighted! I've not done that since week 5 and I'm 13 weeks tomorrow....yippee! I've also noticed my tummy shape has changed a bit, it seems rounder and higher.
Going out for lunch tomorrow and don't know what to wear....really need some new bits as everything, even tops are tight ( because of boobs) The other thing that's different is that I feel loads better and brighter in the day, really feel that I have my energy back but by 8.30 pm in the evening I'm starting to wilt and by 9.30pm I'm useless....no good to anyone and I'm so used to going to bed about 11.30pm normally. Talking of sleep.....I'm off to bed. Have good weekends....zzzz zzzz zzz!

funchum8am · 24/02/2012 21:13

Hi everyone
Congratulations to all the happy scan recipients and especially those who were having worries, bleeding etc.

I have been off for a few days as busy at work and made the mistake of agreeing to go out to see my old school's school production last night - had to leave work early and have a nap before going out again! Glad I went though, it was brilliant and made me a bit teary to think that one day hopefully I will get to go to my own child's school play! Though if they're anything like me they'll be crap in it!

I have slightly larger boobs than usual (usually 34E but back in my one larger bra for now) but not at the stage of needing new bras quite yet. Also I am not yet showing, but then I am a few weeks behind some of you ladies (EDD 21 Sept) and also have a rather prominent belly anyway (have been asked 3 times in my life whether I was pregnant, and have never actually been pregnant on any of these occasions!) I can't wait to actually start showing and having to buy maternity clothes etc - obviously it's a cost but it means it's really happening.

I got a letter through saying my booking appt is next Weds morning so have arranged time off work - all very exciting. Don't have a 12 week scan date yet but since I had one last week for reassurance I'm not in a huge hurry.

Have a great weekend everyone!

sasslejaney84 · 25/02/2012 09:55

Morning all!!

Well, slept through until 6 am this morning!! Yay!! I'm 12+2 now so I'm hoping this is the start of sleeping better!

Still having odd dreams though! I dreamt last night I was performing on stage with olly murs at the x factor final!! Apparently I was singing in my sleep too! Shame I sound like a wailing cat when I do sing! I think the worst bit was The fact I don't like the x factor and I kept telling simon cowell he looks like a badger (I don't know wth that was about!!)

I've had to put some more clothes away this morning, I now I have quite a few things that are going to my neighbour for her charity shop and she has promised that if she gets any maternity clothes in my size she'll pass them over!

I noticed someone (baby brain, so can't remember who) asked about the maternity belts that mean you can wear your own clothes, I had some when I was pregnant with my DD and they were amazing, especially considering I was in a skinny jean phase and I could stay in my own clothes until I was 6 month gone, I had to then go to maternity clothes but I was huge with my DD, I think if you're not too big they may even last longer than that!!

Taking my DD to her access with her dad and picking up my OH's kids at the same time!! Can't wait! We,ve not had his DC for a few weeks due to illness, the older ones not wanting to come and their mum being ill so I'm a happy camper this morning!

Hope everyone else has a good weekend!!

rightontime · 25/02/2012 10:30

Sassle i had a weird dream last night too. I was james bond and had to rescue some cross bred/genetically modified birds from a school. One of the baby birds was going to be eaten ny the mum so i gave it to a girl to look after and put the rest in a shoe box and had to fight special agents and police to get out of the school. Not sure how it would have ended because DS2 came and woke me up.

Lol at singing in your sleep bet your OH was amused!

My belly seems harder too. Last night my belt was really cutting in a painful but was at BIL house so couldnt get comfy. Might have to break out the maternity jeans.

ahhhhhpushit · 25/02/2012 11:47

I am pleased to report my work meal at the fish restaurant went fine phew! I had a lovely spicy prawn curry which was delish. Maybe this is a sign my ms is starting to ease .

I dont think anyone guessed although they may have done. I think it is pretty obvious - not drinking and desperately trying to cover tummy with a pashmina!!!

I am 10+3 today and my belly has totally popped.

twizzlestix · 25/02/2012 12:49

No weird dreams here but... Found my 1st STRETCH MARK today! Am only 13 weeks, this doesn't bode well does it? When did yours appear (if you ever got them), those who already have DC? What's worrying is I've lost 12lbs since getting pregnant so no weight gain just a pot belly!

lurkingmurking · 25/02/2012 13:39

My belly has popped too - I feel huge!!

Amazing lie in this morning and DH got up with DS in the night and I slept til 9am - bliss! Means I have to get up and do the same for him tomorrow but that's fine.

My little bro is on his way up to see us too and I'm very excited about seeing him. It's a beautiful day in London so might head out to the urban farm.

As for dreams, I had a dream that I was married to David Beckham!! It was utterly bizarre and we just went about our business doing totally boring things like the food shop!

rightontime · 25/02/2012 14:50

Twizzle, i think you are more likely to get stretch marks with fluctuating weight although might be wrong on that. So if you lost weight and then your belly grew after that it may be the reason. I got them at about 39weeks with Ds1 but much earlier with ds2 because i ate so much!

Just realised i am 13weeks today, end of the first trimester, yay!

funchum8am · 25/02/2012 15:27

I got stretch marks aged about 14 just from normal growth - I don't know if that means I'm more or less likely to get extra ones from pregnancy though. Would be really interested to know when others got them in pregnancy so I can watch out! No sign of a bump yet but I am only 10+2 in my first pregnancy so I guess it will be a few more days/couple of weeks.

elliemay80 · 25/02/2012 17:43

Have been telling people since yesterday. It has been nice keeping it as our secret for the last few months but we felt our families and close friends should know....my best friend said she had already guessed! It still feels too soon to be telling people even though I've had the 12 week scan and all is fine.

My tummy is really sticking out too. It hasn't exactly been supermodel flat for the last few years but it's quite noticable now. Hard too, not the usual slightly wobbly tummy which I can easily suck in! Have been trying to hide it with a pashmina but can dispense with that now!

blondiep14 · 25/02/2012 17:43

Hey all, great to hear happy scan news.
I'm 10 weeks today, still feeling horrendous and being sick and or retching all day which, frankly, is now very depressing!
On the up-side, I got my scan date yesterday, 14th March so can now look forward to that even tho it feels aaages away!

MissCoffeeNWine · 25/02/2012 23:31

I'm 11+5 today and no sign of a bump, having no trouble sleeping either, had a great lie in this morning. Feeling mostly normal but I haven't suffered many symptoms this time. Weighed myself this morning and I'm a pound heavier than I was just before Christmas, so that seems OK too, all things considered. Next scan in a few days, which is terrifying, then the wait after that to the next one which is ten times worse.

I got stretch marks with DD when I started with a bump so around 34 weeks and up, I could feel them pop on my skin. Horrid. I then got some during the birth, actually stretching as she came out - the skin across the pubic bone and on the inside top of my thighs just split apart. And then a few on the bottom of my boobs from engorgement at 3-4 days old. Never got any in my other pregnancies.

Hope I'll show soon to put my mind at rest but I wouldn't count on it.

Good news on all the scans, fingers crossed for everyone this week.

OP posts:
twizzlestix · 25/02/2012 23:50

Hmm funchum8am I also have stretch marks at top of thighs from teenage growth spurt so also assumed they would happen but not until 30+ weeks or so as others have experienced!

Maybe as you say rightontime, it is due to weightloss but can't do much about that cause get full really quickly and have to spit out mouthfuls occasionally as I know I can't swallow it. Am a lovely dinner guest at the moment :o

Sorry you feel so rough blondie have you tried sea bands? I got some from Amazon and they helped me loads. My Dr also told to eat small meals eg 6 a day rather than 3 big ones and not to drink and eat at the same time. Might be worth a try, if you're not doing this already, of course.

blondiep14 · 26/02/2012 08:37

Oh yes Twizle I have them on constantly! I'm not sure they're really helping but I'm too scared to take them off in case it gets worse!

I'll definitely try the 6 samll meals idea. It does seem to get worse when I'm hungry, although I never feel hungry IYSWIM?!

Hopefully it'll pass soon. I wasn't as sick as this with my other two put together! At least I've the scan to look forward to now.

Claravet · 26/02/2012 08:48

blondiep14 defo try the rat little and often, the only time I get proper naseau is when get too hungry, like you have no real appetite so tricky. Have found plain hula hoops, rich tea and ginger biscuits ace. Keep a little box of bichirs by bed and in car for emergencies!
So went out for first time since bfp to play poker. Some how got 2nd wind so ended up staying till 2am. Ate too much pizza, crisps and (all of which not really been eating) for home feeling terrible couldn't sleep till 3am awake at 5 to pee (to many damn soft drinks) then awake at 7, no hope cgetting back to sleep and now fel like I have the worst hangover ever, not fair!!!!!
