1,000 posts into the very popular September 2012 thread, here's a new one, for knicker checking, boob prodding, toilet rushing, oh and eating the entire contents of the fridge or McDonalds

Here's to our tiny beans and all the lovely ladies lost along the way.

Full steam ahead to booking in and positive scans aplenty.

york glad to hear your bean is doing fine in there! :) if you have a c section, how long does it take to recover afterwards!

Macaroons · 23/02/2012 14:41

That's meant to be a question mark...

LittleSpade · 23/02/2012 14:43

Yay that's excellent news york

I second it being a lovely day - just had a little snooze in the garden over a big pint of juice - my excuse is i needed the rest Wink

york67 · 23/02/2012 14:50

Thank you ladies. macaroons they say you aren't fully fit for 6 weeks. ie can't drive. However, recovery varies alot. With my 1st it was a real emergency section and I was in hospital for 4 days. Had dh around for 2 weeks. 2nd was better. Out of hospital with 36 hours and coping with a 2 year old and newborn on my own after a week.

sasslejaney84 · 23/02/2012 15:00

york that is amazing news!! I'm so glad you know everything is ok now! I know how you feel about being so worried, after my bleed and the cramps I've been terrified I'm going to go for my scan and something will be wrong!!

My OH is being brilliant though! If I wobble he sits with me and listens to me whinge and go on for a bit!

macaroons I never had a c section but my best friend has had two and with her second one she was up and about the following day, hers took a few weeks to heal but not that long really, my scratches lasted longer!!!

york67 · 23/02/2012 15:18

Thank you sassle. I still can't fully relax though as I had an mmc at 12 weeks before. However, having seen a hearbeat at 9 weeks is amazing.

elliemay80 · 23/02/2012 17:08

Glad all is well york. I had a scan last week and it was measuring a little smaller than it should be for dates (too small to do NT scan) but they were not concerned with me either. I am trying not to worry about it but have another scan tomorrow along with NT scan to confirm due date. Tomorrow will be the due date of the miscarriage I had in August so I'm hoping that all will go well. Will be a bit of a double blow otherwise!

Have had two scans so far and no cause for concern and had my booking in appt today in which the midwife further reassured me that dates can be a bit sketchy around this time.

Loup23 · 23/02/2012 18:10

Great news york and a HB too yay! Hope you can try and relax for the next three weeks, easier said than done.......

Welcome to newbies and good luck for more scans - who else is this week?

I have literally shoe horned into my "skinny jeans" this evening - who am I kidding that they still fit, only if I hold my breath and don't try and bend over or sit down...... Must get some maternity jeans soon - New Look tomorrow I think.

Long may this sunny weather continue..... Thanks

Claravet · 23/02/2012 18:43

I too have been sleeping badly, gave up setting alarm as woke up religiously at 5.30-6.30am needing to pee then unable to get back to sleep, also found myself tossing and turning all night prior to that. The last few nights I have slept using a large cushion tucked into my body/ between legs. The differenc has been amazing. I wonder if was rolling onto tummy, which now feels a bit weird and not truely comfortable and squishing my rather sore boobs. Know that alot of people use various cushions later to help sleep and since am barely showing (can possibly convince myself have little bulge) definitely has made a difference so don't care why or how!

Macaroons · 23/02/2012 19:00

york and sas - thanks for sharing what you know about c-section.

ellie - best of luck tomorrow!!

claravet - let me try sleeping with a cushion / spare pillow tonight!

rightontime · 23/02/2012 19:14

Glad you had a good scan york.

Had my 12week scan this afternoon. 3 attempts it took to be able to measure the nuchal fold but got there in the end. Was a little wiggler, nice heartbeat so very happy.

Nuchal measured 1.7mm anyone know if this is good or bad? Need to wait for results in the post for DS.

ahhhhhpushit · 23/02/2012 19:31

I have a horrific day ahead tomorrow - got a 3 hour train journey and need to leave the house at about 6.30am. Then get train back home, then I have a dinner at a .... fish restaurant

oh god Blush

Felt AWFUL today, sick first thing and also walking down the road to work I was sick on the street. Got home from work at 1pm and spent 1pm-5pm in bed. Didnt feel much better when I woke. Groan. When. will.it.stop!!! argh!

sasslejaney84 · 23/02/2012 19:58

york I have my FX for you!!

macaroons you're welcome, glad to be of help :)

ahhhh I know what you mean about feeling rubbish, I felt like that but at the same time when I stopped feeling anything I was paniking like hell!!

claravet I hope that works for me tonight!! I hope it does! I know what you mean about the uncomfotable-ness of lying on your stomach, I've not been able to for a few days, it hurts and makes me need to pee! TMI I know!! I can when I'm in bed, but my matress is a tempure so it fits around the bump!

twizzlestix · 23/02/2012 20:39

Wow! Everyone is v chatty today :)

My sympathies to everyone who isn't sleeping properly! I also wake up for no reason and struggle to go back to sleep for what feels like hours so consequently feel exhausted in pm! Despite this, everyone is telling me I look better now they told me they were relieved i'm pregnant because they were worried I was seriously ill :o must have been the grey pallor and just been sick through my nose grimace that led them to think that :o so relieved that's stopped now!

york67 that's brilliant news! So glad all is well with baba.

rightontime I think 1.7 is well within average for nt (from what I've read only over 3.sonething is a concern) but don't forget it's a risk calculated on bloods too so can really second guess. Am sure all will be well :)

misscoffee and ballroom nice to know others who are consultant led. I will have tonnes of scans to check growth etc but am pleased that they'll be paying close attention.

Can't believe they said they think it's a boy at 13 week scan winkywinkola were your scan pics really sharp? Must be a good. Sonographer! I keep referring to baby bean as 'he' which my husband finds odd and feels the need to warn me 'it could be a girl you know!'. He is just easier to say I think :)

twizzlestix · 23/02/2012 20:40

Meant can't second guess!

ballroomblitz · 23/02/2012 20:51

That's really fab news on the scan front york and rightontime. Hoping I've got everyone.

I have a different c-section experience in that mine hurt like hell for a month and was on codeine for three weeks after. I don't know if it was something to do with ds being prem and having such a small bump (was still in size 8/10 tops pre-birth) that my skin was tighter iykwim. The woman who had twins the same day as me via c-section didn't even need any pain relief the next day. I on the other hand was swallowing codeine, paracetamol and tramadol for breakfast Grin

ballroomblitz · 23/02/2012 20:53

My scans will all be for growth too twizzlestix. I know my nerves will be shot later on in this pregnancy.

sasslejaney84 · 23/02/2012 22:21

twizzle I think I'm going to be consultant led too, my midwife seems to think I will be due to my epilepsy! I've not had any fits and no letters through as yet!

WinkyWinkola · 24/02/2012 06:37

Well, he said he was 75% sure. It was a private scan - the kit the obstetrician had was amazing - and apparently it's the angle of the dangle - see the link below. But he said the cord was in the way a bit so who knows? Dh is still convinced it's a girl but in my heart of hearts, I know it's a little chap.

Info on gender detection

I think they rarely make mistakes and usually those are mistaking boys for girls.

Or something.

rightontime · 24/02/2012 07:52

I'm not consultant led yet as i am under the spacial care (silver star) team but they may discharge me to my consultant after i have had a uterine doppler at 23 weeks to check the placenta, as long as all is ok. I will be having scans every 4 weeks to check growth.

Thanks Twizzle for reassurance on the measurements. Thought they were within normal which is great.

TinkerMaloo · 24/02/2012 09:11

Im consultant led too, and I was last time, though all it meant last time was that I saw the consultant, told her what i had told the midwife re my previous birth and needing blood transfusion etc and she then proceeded to hand me straight back to midwife care... (did end up seeing another consultant later though about gest diabetes)

This time, im seeing her again.. cant really see the point lol esp as my second birth was straightforward and no interventions needed at all... got to have extra GD checks too... hope i dont have it this time! I miss sugar! ;)

quitcomplaining · 24/02/2012 09:20

Can I join the lack of sleepers and too tight jeaners?! I will be hitting the shops for some maternity jeans this weekend too and sending dp into the loft for the maternity pillow!

I am under consultant care as well due to previous emergency section. It's a shame because my hospital has a brand new midwife led unit which im not allowed to use.

I have been reading up on VBACs, really want to try and have as natural birth as possible this time.

I can't remember who asked but in terms of recovery from a section I was bed bound for 24 hours with a catheter. Then the next 24 hours I was in agony. Then with the help of lots of drugs the pain gradually eased over the next week. I was driving again after 3 weeks Blush naughty naughty.

I have been having nightmares about telling work I'm pregnant. I am on a fixed term maternity cover contract, the lady I'm covering is due back in October at the earliest and I'm due mid September. They are not going to be impressed!

pgreen · 24/02/2012 09:42

so glad I'm not the only one sleeping badly. I'm really not showing which is why I find it weird that sleeping is uncomfortable already - oh and the bloomin pee breaks in the night. claravet thank for tip I'll try that too.

Rather random question/thoughts on exercise.... I know its dreaded by most but... I started a really regular exercise regime about a year ago (lost 16lbs) which was 4 classes a week. Reached my target and now exercise to maintain it. My GP advised I could keep it up in the first 12 weeks as long as I wasn't tiring too much, which on the whole has been fine. I cut out the dance classes as leaping and knee spins got me scared of falling over. I've kept up Zumba though.... now at week 13 starting to find the class is tiring so have reduced it back to twice a week. How long do you think I will/should keep up the Zumba? Zumba is very pelvic swivel-ly if you know what I mean. I always have the adrenaline high and I wonder what I could replace it with - not a fan of swimming really

All thoughts gratefully received - even if you think I'm nuts

Rusulka · 24/02/2012 10:33

Winky I wish I'd known about that article before I went for my scan- I could have had a guess at determining what Peanut was!

PGreen I wouldn't know what to suggest. If you're not a fan of swimming, what about aquaerobics? Or is it the getting in a cozzie bit you don't like? Grin Do you have a wii fit? There used to be a programme on BBC3 called Misbehaving Mums to Be and the overweight one inadvertently ended up on the wii fit for exercise. and there's a variety of exercises on there- yoga, muscle, and fun aerobic and balancing ones. I keep wondering whether Just Dance and my bellydancing for weightloss DVD are off limits. Haven't done them for ages, so would probably just do myself a mischief!

My sleeping is getting crap too. Tossing and turning all night, can't seem to stay in one position for more than 20 mins. I'm not showing at all, but I had a belly before, so I still look normal for me. Boobs are bigger, but that's it. Oh, and I definitely can't lie on my front.

I'm not the hugest fan of trousers (squeeze aforementioned pre-existing belly) so I usually wear longish skirts, usually in a nice bright coloured cord. 2 of these still fit, but might have to get some maternity tights to go with all the dresses I will no doubt be relegated to- and probably before the weather warms up!

Loup23 · 24/02/2012 10:40

Morning all - Congratulations rightontime and sorry to hear of continuing sickness and sleepness nights for others, I am sleeping so well apart from the 1am pee break - haven't needed to wee more in the day at all but always between 1-2 at night Confused

Have bought some maternity jeans on the way to work and also a pack of 3 bump belt thingys - anyone used them before? Do you just out them over normal trousers?!

pgreen no advice really sorry, but wanted to say wow and well done for keeping up the fitness, I was too scared to after mc last Feb and now really want to get into something before I completely turn to flab.... I think I'm going to try aqua aerobics. I will be skiing at 17 weeks and am not sure how I'm going to manage that.....
