1,000 posts into the very popular September 2012 thread, here's a new one, for knicker checking, boob prodding, toilet rushing, oh and eating the entire contents of the fridge or McDonalds

Here's to our tiny beans and all the lovely ladies lost along the way.

Full steam ahead to booking in and positive scans aplenty.

Still waiting to hear from EPU. Told I should hear by Friday.
Our hospital charges £2.50 per picure.

LittleSpade · 22/02/2012 09:46

Congratulations to everyone who had successful scans yesterday - so good to get lots of good news on this thread - long may it continue! Still got a week and a half till my scan.

My hospital charge for scan photos too - £5 apparently - rip off given how much we all pay in tax!

OMG macaroons your blood test experience sounds horrendous - no wonder you're scared! I have a fear of them too as my mum had to have lots of them when i was little and they could never find her veins and she got upset which has rubbed off on me and I also often get a very sore arm and a big bruise. But when i went for my booking appointment the lady could tell i was nervous and asked whether i'd like a smaller needle - apparently they often use them for kids as it hurts less and is less likely to bruise but has to stay in there slightly longer to get the necessary blood out. I found it a LOT better.

sassle I know what you mean about the cleaning spree - me and DH properly deep cleaned our ensuite for nearly 2 hours last night!

Also had a random dream - was on a coach tour through Europe and we got to the Estonia border (like you do) and someone got on the coach to check our passports - I looked in my bag and found I had the passport holder but not the passport - I then remembered I'd left it on charge at my friends house before i left (wtf!) - so i went back for it (like you do from Estonia) and asked for some toast while i was there and she refused saying she'd baked special bread and there was a shop down the road to get my own!!! Why don't i get to have more vivid/exciting dreams?

LittleSpade · 22/02/2012 09:50

Also meant to say a big thanks to claravet for the sleep bra recommendation - will check those out at the weekend :)

MissCoffeeNWine · 22/02/2012 11:02

Bloods round here, they don't do them at booking, just take the whole lot after the NT/dating scan. Only one needle that way.

Unless they lose them like they did with DD and my last baby and have to do them again that is. Well they did them again with my last baby at the 16 week appointment but never repeated them with DD, meaning I never had any blood results at all in her pregnancy. Luckily I don't care about needles.

Rusulka · 22/02/2012 11:51

NHS charges £5 per photo at my hospital, and you can buy a maximum of 4. Fortunately they never charged us, so we slipped out the door with 5... Grin

I too am concerned about bras. I was a 36HH before Peanut, and they don't fit any more... think I will need specialist nursing bras from Bravissimo or something, but concerned that they only go up to a J or K- doesn't leave me much room for expansion!!!

Welcome to newbies, glad scans have been going ok.

Still can't believe I have to wait up to 5 weeks for these results. Grump. Hopefully it'll be a lot less than that, and they're just covering their arses...

sasslejaney84 · 22/02/2012 12:26

rus I'm hoping I don't get charged, otherwise it'll be one for me as money is very tight!!

As for the sleeping bras, I was a 34E before peanut, but I'm hoping that I don't get as big as I did with my DD, I went from a D to a G and now I'm an E so slightly hoping that the baby weight loss is bloody quick and I'm back to a normal size soon ish!! I hated having big boobs as it kills my lower back!

Just off out to my friends to play with her actual real life lizard!! Can't wait!! I'm hoping to get one soon myself!! I'm just hoping she puts the snake away today as last time she got one out!! I can't stand snakes!!

Macaroons · 22/02/2012 12:41

Hello ladies! Quick post to report on scan and NT test result. Scan was great, saw the little one moving and kicking his/her leg! Saw the feet, spinal cord, stomach, brain etc. very exciting. They still don't know the cause of bleeding but it has stopped now and I'm less worried.

My baby has a 1 in 13500 chance of having downs syndrome and it's also low risk for the other 2 chromosomal syndrome. Now we are more relieved and have told our close friends Grin

Bought 2 photos at 3 quid each but the sonographer threw in two free ones!

Good luck to all having upcoming scan!

Macaroons · 22/02/2012 12:48

york can't believe they make you wait till Friday! It's called an emergency unit after all?

Fingers crossed for you and your bean. Has the bleeding and discharge stopped now?

Macaroons · 22/02/2012 12:51

littlespade yes that horror blood test experience has scarred me, but luckily at my booking appointment and also my 12 week scan the medical staffs were experienced. They got the blood at first attempt and no bruise afterwards! I'm less scared now!

ahhhhhpushit · 22/02/2012 13:02

Loopy - identical is one egg, two sperm fertilizing it at exact same second :)

Non-identical is two eggs, two sperm.

lurkingmurking · 22/02/2012 13:08

My boobs were a lovely 36C before I had DS. They went up to 38DD and have stayed there Shock They had better not get any bigger this time!!

Thali34 · 22/02/2012 13:37

So exciting to hear all the good scan stories - so so happy for you all! :)

Very impressed by those getting so much cleaning done! I'm normally pretty house proud, and quite hygiene-obsessive, but I've completely let things slide! Simply can't be bothered/can't find the energy. DH is being amazing in the kitchen with cleaning up and loading/unloading dishwasher etc (I've still been managing to do most meals). As I'm starting to feel better, there soon won't be much excuse, but for the time being, any other cleaning/tidying has to wait until visitors are due! Oh dear....

Loup23 · 22/02/2012 13:38

Congratulations macaroons great news, york i hope the symptoms have died down and you get seen by the EPU pronto.

pushit identical twins are from one egg and one sperm, the embryo splits early on and two babies grow, both being nearly genetically identical due to same egg and sperm.....

york67 · 22/02/2012 14:02

Thanks loup and macaroons. Still having a little discharge. EPU ran when I was out with an appointment. Rang them back and got answerphone. (typical).Hopefully I can get an appointment tomorrow.
Do still feel pregnant. (sick and sore boobs on and off so fingers crossed)
Congrats on scan macaroons

lauras87 · 22/02/2012 14:09

i'm having my first scan tomorrow and im getting very excited! has anyone got any suggestions for nice maternity clothes all the ones i have been looking at are frilly and hideous!

Loopyhasanotherbean · 22/02/2012 14:35

loup23 is right, as i was i re identical twins. ....and to continue the biology lesson, if the cells created by 1 egg and 1 sperm decide to separate into identical twins but then don't separate properly into 2, you end up with siamese twins...

still wondering who will have the thread's twins :)

Loup23 · 22/02/2012 14:48

or triplets! Let's not get started on the biology lesson for the creation of those wonders......! Smile

Good luck tomorrow laura, not too sure re maternity clothes as trying not to shell out on those just yet but... a good friend of mine swears by H&M Hennes, I think Zara used to have a range but not sure if they've temporarily stopped..... And if you really want to splash out Isabella Oliver (I think you get a discount through mumsnet, an advert caught my eye the other day). Some of the second time mums might have some better suggestions!

ladygagoo · 22/02/2012 14:52

another newbie here - been lurking for a while but as I'm 11 weeks tomorrow thought it was time to join in. Great news about all the scans so far, I've got mine on the 5th of March. It can't come soon enough as only DP and I know so far and am dying to spill the 'beans'.

Another vote for Claravet's suggestion of Asda sports bras for sleeping in. My local Asda does 2 for £7.00 and although they would be absolutely useless for sports, for sleeping in they have been a lifesaver as I've gone from a 34DD to a 34G (ouch). I would recommend getting them in one chest size up though

Poppyjen · 22/02/2012 14:52

Re maternity clothes, Isabella Oliver is lovely but fairly pricey - their sales are good though if you can catch them. Good thing about them is that a fair few of their dresses etc look nice whether you have no bump or if you have a full on 40-week-er. I wore one of mine yesterday, no bump to speak of yet :)

Good place to buy is ebay Grin

sasslejaney84 · 22/02/2012 15:48

I'd keep an eye on ebay, also preloved, plus if you have facebook you can usually find a decent free/buying/selling pages on there for your local area, I'll have to post soon as I'm already showing!! Got one pair of normal leggings and a pair of maternity ones from my local h&m so might be worth looking there too for any maternity clothes!!

Now home after picking up my DD from school, luckily she's got homework and reading to do so I can have a veg out on the sofa before I start on tea, having a curry and chips, homemade by my BF!! She's a star! Extra large portion as she knows what I'm like! It was delievered today by her DH!

Going to have to deep clean the cupboards on friday!! My oil has leaked :-( won't be able to do it tomorrow as I'll be shattered and it will be takeaway night so I won't have to cook (bonus!)

Going to have a look at asda on saturday for some new bras on the recommendations on here!! So useful!

twizzlestix · 22/02/2012 16:46

Thank you all for the warm welcome.

claravet I'm a first timer too! We enter the new world of fat ankles and leaky boobs together :)

My hospital asked for a £2-3 donation per picture and normally they make you pay and give you a receipt so sonographer only prints that many but machine was broken so we got 4 for £2 which is good cause DH is tight. Good job I don't go to your hospital rusulka £5 a scan is horrific! DH would have blanched :)

We told the world yesterday and today, it was lovely. My family cried and do did friends. Everyone is so happy for us and baby bean is already very much anticipated! Have to say it was sooo hard not telling my mum before the scan so am relieved it's in the open now.

Great news about your scan fatsamgrandslam and macroons also good news on NT results. Got to wait 5 days if there's a problem or upwards of 2 weeks if not!

My pregnancy is consultant led, I think it was sassiejaney and another who have had experience with this. As this is going to be PFB am a bit :o at the amount of appointments I have to go to! Is that common in consultant led pregnancies?

twizzlestix · 22/02/2012 16:48

I meant [shocked] not :o but guess am :o at number of days off work I'll need!

twizzlestix · 22/02/2012 16:49

Aaagh Shock must preview posts!!!

Bakeroo · 22/02/2012 17:33

Congratulations Macaroons that is such great news!
Rusulka try not to worry about being a few days ahead for your dates. My SIL is having twins and has been told that her babies are big for the dates (which they are sure of because they're IVF babies so they know when they were put in!) but they're not worried about them overly. Also, I was about 5 days behind what I thought I should be at my last scan (7 weeks) and at 12 weeks I'd caught up and am now spot on....so like someone said, I think they all grow slightly differently and have different spurts.
Welcome new people...how wonderful that you've concieved after 27 months Twizzlestix that's wonderful news!
I'm doing well, loving telling work and colleagues about the baby. Everyone is so excited and it's just so lovely! I have bought a pair of maternity jeans from GAP and I'm really pleased with them. They had a 35% off sale at the weekend too so weren't too expensive at all and they are so comfortable, I'm really pleased with them. I've also just ordered 2 tops from Dorothy Perkins because I saw a discount code on a Mumsnet email I was sent (today) and so saved £12...I'm not usually such a bargain hunter but this has been fun...and I'm trying to be better with money, knowing that soon I'll have a lot less!
Other places that I've liked the look of their stuff is Topshop, H&M, ASOS.com, Next,Isabella Oliver (for more expensive, one off items) Tiffany Rose and Seraphine. I don't want to spend much on clothes I'm going to wear for only 6 ish months but then I don't want to feel rubbish in what I'm wearing...tricky.
Enjoy OBEM tonight...I'm wondering now that I've seen that I have a real baby inside me and the chances of me giving birth are real, whether I'll be able to watch it until the end? It might become too scary! For now I'm looking forward to it.
Sorry for essay...slow afternoon at work and lots to say!
:)

ahhhhhpushit · 22/02/2012 17:36

Ooo I see! Lovin the biology lesson :)
