Evening all!

Welcome new folk!

Well, quite a good weekend for me. Spent all of Saturday relaxing and watching telly then on Sunday went to a Mamas & Papas Factory Outlet. Found the factory outlet a bit disappointing and didn't buy anything, but did stop at a carpet shop on the way and got a great deal on a carpet for our bedroom! Don't need it until end of April as we've got plastering and decorating to do, but it was too good a deal to pass up!

Re maternity leave - I'm starting it from my due date, but am taking holiday from 36+4. Or at least, that's the plan! Will have to see if baby agrees...!

ffnorm · 20/02/2012 19:22

Hey everyone - welcome to the late flurry of newcomers Smile

Sorry to hear there are so many feeling rough...

Had my glucose tolerance test today - was really worried about fasting, esp when I realised that I had to fast from 9 last night and I only get in from work at half 9 but is wasn't too bad and they were perfectly on time.Luckily I don't have a huge aversion to Lucozade Grin

SpecialJK · 20/02/2012 20:34

welcome newcomers!

So, after an eventful day I'm all packed for NYC tomorrow. I've got a visit planned to 'Upper Breast Side' a specialist bra place, can't wait! I've tried about 10 bras to no avail. (I'm sure DH is really excited Confused)

oh, and ordered my travel system and car seat/car base today. got 10% off by ordering all from one place, so got quite a good deal.

I'm really looking forward to a few days off, hope everyone keeps well when I'm away Smile

10000fireflies · 20/02/2012 21:02

Evening all

Swim was lovely yesterday. Sneaked out of pool early so I could have some chips while DH finished at the gym but was caught in the act. Still, he very nicely signed me up for the ante-natal pilates class so also looking forward to meeting some RL preggers ladies.

Mamma hope you?re feeling properly recovered now.

Tea what?s the secret to getting your DH to do stuff? Mine is going to do absolutely zero again around the house now he has another job.

Cath v cute that DS snuggles up in bed with you from 6am. Awwww. I really feel for you with the saliva problem. I did a bit of googling for you and was surprised how little there is out there on your prob. Best I found was a site that suggests sucking on lemon slices or by ?placing a pinch of ground coffee under the tongue? or sucking on a few sunflower seeds.? eatrunplay.com/excess-saliva-production-in-mouth-%E2%80%93-causes-and-home-remedies/ Not great sounding remedies, but worth a go?

Special enjoy your trip to NY. Happy shopping!! Send us a postcard!!

Warlin glad you?re back in the land of the living and even had a big night out. Woohoo!! What about that crampy stomach?

Oh no, and now you Chateau - sorry you?ve been feeling rough. How are you feeling now?

Welcome howcanadoor, surfmama and Phoebe1 and congratulations. Seems to be getting very busy in here now. Is there a bit of a boom going on in June??!!

Florin not great that your twin is not talking to you. What exactly is her problem? How can not knowing have made her feel pushed out of the family? Are you not entitled to some privacy? Funny how siblings react. One of my brothers got a bit weird when he eventually found out that DH and I were doing IVF. He just wasn?t willing to accept that I didn?t want to talk to anyone about it. DH and I wanted to go through it alone. Do you think your sis maybe feels a little awkward/upset that you didn?t share with her? Or is she just jealous maybe that you?re ?special??

Kveta hope you managed to stay awake until you?d had dinner with DH, and get some sleep tonight.

Did you get your results there and then FFn? All ok? I have to do mine soon. (is for gestational diabetes right?)

Right, going to get some dinner. Have a good night all.

CathFin · 21/02/2012 06:55

10000 - thanks for having a look for me - its obviously a bit of weird one as there is practically no useful information! I might try the coffee thing although I'm not convinced!
Lemon doesn't work. Wonder if I need sunflower seeds with or without shells??

Congratulations to the other new ladies!

Special - have a great trip!

I'm wondering if something is actually waking my two up as they both appeared before 6am!! Too early!

rrrayray · 21/02/2012 09:40

My goodness I am so out of touch & you ladies have been doing lots of nattering.

Sorry to hear some of you feeling rotten. I have a cough & a cold which I can't seem to shake, and the daily head aches are hanging around. Blurgh.

Seem to have gone from having very little in the way of a bump to quite a bump overnight. By the evening I'm already feeling pretty heavy! Eeek!

Our DDs pram hood has broken, and the model is discontinued so no luck in getting a new one. So buying a new pram I think. We went to mothercare yesterday & think have talked DH into a bugaboo Cameleon.

The only thought I am having is DD is newly 3 and still naps in the day, I don't need a double buggy as she is rarely in her buggy for her nap these days, but I'm not entirely sure what I'm going to do on a day out if she needs a nap & we're say in London or out without a car etc. I was toying with the idea id put the baby in the sling and out her in the pram. The pram unit is really very long & if she was tired I'm sure she'd sleep in it. Any thoughts? Going to get the buggy board but clearly she can't sleep on that!!!! Wink

AmethystMoon · 21/02/2012 10:45

Hello everyone :)

Just been having a catch up on all of the posts.

10000fireflies, bemy and mamma, I've got the hypnobirthing CD and accompanying book (natalhypnotherapy) not the American one. I've started the book, which is good so far and listened to the CD twice - both times I've fallen sound asleep Blush so it's obviously very relaxing Grin

Also {grin] at your sneaky chips 10000fireflies - just the sort of thing I'd do!

Chateau I've been very breathless too, not in a wheezy asthmatic kind of way more just gasping for breath. I spoke to my midwife about it last week and she said it's because the baby/placenta/uterus are squishing my internal organs up against my lungs and so they have less room to expand. She also said it will only get worse as I get bigger Hmm

Warlin I ams o sorry to hear about your house, odd luck with the new viewers this week, fingers crossed for you.

Cathfin your saliva problem sounds a nightmare, I really hope it eases for you soon. I've read about that fact it is a pregnancy symptom but can't find any useful suggestions for helping to reduce it :(

Welcome Howcanadoor, Surfmama and Phoebe1 - glad you've joined us :)

Kveta I am planning to start my naternoty leave at 39+ 2 and then taking just over a week annual leave before then - mainly to give me a chance to sort the house out ready for baby's arrival!

I had fun and games yesterday, I set of for work at 07.30 as usual (35 mile drive), but after about 10 mins started to feel hot and a bit light headed. I opened the window to get some air but I just felt worse. After about 20 mins I realised I was going to faint (on a busy A road!) so I managed to pull over into a layby and phone my DP and my boss. They both agreed I should rest until I felt better then try to get home. So I got some fresh air and when I felt better I turned around and headed for home (by now decided I was off to bed for the day Grin). Anyway I then felt faint again and did the same (pulled over etc), then started on my way again, then about 2 miles from home (still on busy A road) I realised I was fainting, managed to pull over into a very convenient layby and prompty fainted over into the passanger seat Shock. When I came round I called my doctor to see if I could come straight there, as I was worried about the baby. He told me to call an ambulance as he didn't want me to try driving again (on reflection very sensible advice) so I did and eventually they turned up and took me home after doing lots of checks and tests. My blood pressure was low and also temp a bit low. They were so sweet as I felt very silly calling them, but they said I'd done the right thing and even made me an appointment to see my doctor yesterday afternoon. It turns out I have a UTI and a virus, and so am now on antibiotics :( Doc wanted to sign my off of work for a week and has banned me from driving until Thursday, and then only if I am better. So for once in my life I am doing as I am told and resting...not something that come naturally for me, as I am very restless and fidgety.

So if anyone else suddenly gets light headed/fainty/dizzy please don't ignore it, they wouldn't have found my UTI if I hadn't have gone to docs (tested clear on urine sample at midwife only 7 days ago) so it goes to show how quickly these things can develop.

AmethystMoon · 21/02/2012 10:46

Pesky typos. sorry Warlin GOOD luck not odd luck!!! Hmm must check my posts before actually posting!

Miniangel · 21/02/2012 11:00

Sorry to hear that some of you are not well. Hope you recover soon.

AmethystMoon felt scared on your behalf when reading about you fainting while driving. Glad everything turned out ok.Do take proper rest.I know from exp that UTIs can be very nasty. I have one currently too. This is my 4th one so the docs have put me on low dose antibiotics till the very end of pregnancy.

Warlin good luck with finding buyers for your house. Is the house on the beech still available? I hope you can move soon and get settled.

Welcome Howcanadoor, Surfmama and Phoebe1

I am debating when to take my maternity leave. The earliest I can start is 11 weeks before my due date and I am debating whether to start it then.

Feel quite rough since yesterday. Have been vomiting again and getting bodyache. Hope we all feel better soon and can enjoy our bumps. I have another scan on 27th Feb as the new hospital could not tally the dates properly at the last scan. Looking forward to seeing the baby at 24 weeks.

Have a nice day everyone.

Warlin · 21/02/2012 11:08

Morning all

My goodness Amethys what a nightmare! You did the right thing as you wouldn't want to crash and hurt LO Shock you were lucky but must have been frightening. Make sure you get plenty of rest over the next few days. I'm like you too, find it hard to relax..always got something to do!

Enjoy your holiday special veryy jealous...I love NYC. Think you should buy us all some virtual bras as I can't get any to fit either Grin

welcome Surfmama and Phoebe1..add yourselves to the stat list a few pages back.

Hi to everyone else. Hope the colds/ coughs etc getting better.

I feel a bit better today..cough def on the mend and the heavy feeling of yeserday has subsided. I had myself convinced that I was going into early labour....just ft so heavy and uncomfortable all day and panicked when girl in work said my bump had dropped. All seems ok though.

We have second viewers on the house tonight so keeping everything crossed this time...fed up with all the cleaning and being pleassant to people who are mostly wsting my time Angry

My 3 year old niece is home from New Jersey and staying with my parents so going there after work to see her. Can't wait as I don't see her that much.

Got my fetal heart scan tomorrow night and can't wait as it seems ages since the 20 week scan. Hope wee Tom is doing ok and that all is well on that front....

Hope everyone has a good day

Dalrymps · 21/02/2012 11:12

Morning ladies Smile

Oh dear, I've fallen terribly behind with no hope of catching upConfused

I thought I'd pop in and say hi anywaySmile

I'm getting a noticeable bump now although I won't win prize for biggest bump. We're all coughing away in this house, wish it's naff off!

Pancake day today. I am naffed off as an working 5-9.30 so won't get to eat mine with my boys. I will be stuffing my face when I get home though, I have bought nutella and squirty cream for the occasionGrin Am also partial to lemon juice and sugar/syrup optionSmile

Got a bit of a busy day today. Drop ds1 at nursery then ds 2 at grannies whilst I see the midwife then I've got to rush back to nursery for a parents 'join in with rhyme time' then pick ds 2 up, pick dh up from work and finally go to work myself! So glad I'm not working the next 2 days..

Re maternity leave, I have no idea when
I'm going to start mine as the way I feel lately it could be tomorrow. Im only 24wks though (25wks tomorrow) I don't work long shifts but I'm finding it soo tiring after watching the boys all day etc. Just gonna play it by ear.

Sorry to those of you suffering with breathlessness and extra saliva. Why must pregnancy torture us in such strange ways?

Are there any of us left to be scanned?

TeaandHobnobs · 21/02/2012 12:02

Amethyst you poor thing, that sounds very scary! Confused Hope you get lots of rest and recover soon. Taking it easy seems to be the motto for a lot of us at the moment.

Re finishing work - currently planning to go on ML at 39+4, with two weeks' holiday before that, making my last day 37+1. If I feel I can't make it that far, I may take some more holiday, or use holiday to cut down on days/week. I can work from home which helps, as it is the commute which is knackering.

millyv · 21/02/2012 12:54

Afternoon everyone!

Sorry I've been away so long, back from Dubai and then had to get ready for bestie's hen party friday-sunday and had a day off yesterday to recover! Although I spent the day sorting out the rubbish we've accumilated in the 'nursery' and went to the tip with a boot full!

Everyone has been so busy, hope that those with colds get better soon, the same for the uti's!

Amethyst poor you, hope you are ok and please listen to the doctors and rest, I had a fainting episode a few months back in a customers factory and ended up being driven home and spending the whole day asleep even though it was only 10am! Fingers crossed like me it was just a blip and you will be feeling better soon!

Has everyone started buying/ordering things yet? I have been so naughty and bought a few really cute baby girl things - I just couldn't resist! We've ordered the pram and nursery furniture etc for delivery in April/May so DH just has to redecorate the nursery and build a wardrobe in the alcove in there.

I can't believe how far along we all are already, it seems like only a few weeks ago we were worrying about 12 week scans! A friend had a little boy over the weekend, he's so cute - I'm a little disapointed we live so far away as would love a cuddle with him!

Hope everyone is ok, the cold has finally left our house although went to see SIL esterday and her children were sniffing and coughing and I had a very selfish thought of oh no, lets get this visit over and done with quickly so that we don't recatch it!

Hopefully I'll be back more often again now!

Xx

rhibutterfly · 21/02/2012 13:02

my god you brave lot going up to 39 weeks i'm taking mine as soon as i can because Spd is so bad, home from work with it this week, physio next week so fingers crossed it'll work miracles, on the plus side my little poppet is kicking like mad lately she definitely likes sweet stuff lol bet she'll really enjoy pancakes later xx

MammaInTheMaking · 21/02/2012 13:08

What a frightening day amethyst. I was reading your post and thinking "please don't drive any more!!!"

I'm totally recovered now. It was norovirus from hell. Thank goodness it's gone in time for pancakes tonight!

Kveta · 21/02/2012 13:21

I can't keep up with this thread!!

I'm sure someone mentioned the name Charlotte earlier (ceej maybe?) just wanted to say I love it :) we were thinking of it for a middle name, as my wee sister has Charlotte for her middle name, and she's also a June birthday. Still debating it!

had a few days with no discernible kicks over the weekend and was getting worried, then baby hoofed me so hard, DH saw it from across the room :o she has been v. kicky since, which is good.

DS remains ridiculous. I'm glad nobody is too bored by my tales of him yet :o this morning I trimmed his finger nails (or snails as he calls them), and gave him the clippings to put in the bin (he lovs doing this!). As he walked to the bin, he went past the mirror on our wardrobe, and said to his reflection 'look Mirror Oli! Snails!' :o almost makes up for his starfish impersonation in our bed last night. the other day I sent him to get a clean nappy first thing in the morning, and he returned in a bumble bee costume and sunglasses (on upside down). Without the nappy. Toddlers are fun!!

Still no sleep for me though, am struggling at work. DH enjoyed his birthday eve though - no ahem, bedroom activities, due to exhaustion/SPD, but he got to watch a documentary about the Tube whilst ironing his work shirts in preparation for his commute on the tube this morning. Lucky man!

amethyst your driving and fainting thing sounds terrifying :( hope you are ok. rest as much as you can now!

those who are still feeling sick - I guess we can forget the 'it'll be over by 14 weeks' myth now, huh? bastarding pregnancy. I am now itchy, heartburny, knackered, sick, sore, and my skin is atrocious (spotty and dry on my face somehow). I am not doing this again. Remind me I said that though in about 18 months time please :o

Is anyone else plotting batch cooking sessions in the coming months? I felt like some sort of wonder-mum at the weekend - made a batch of spag bol sauce so large, I froze 4 portions of it (so that's 4 meals worth!), made 2 lots of lasagne (one we ate on sunday, one for tomorrow), and we had spag bol on saturday night too! Very smug indeed :o I'm stocking up on storage containers that can be chucked to make some more freezable meals for after baby arrives, although will probably wait to make the majority of them in May. I did this last time, and it was so so worth it to have about 3 weeks of no worry about meals!

right, MUST WORK. kick me if you see me on here again in the next hour, will you?!

OP posts:
rrrayray · 21/02/2012 13:30

Amythest - poor you what an episode. Rest up!!!!

Kveta - I have been over cooking when I do cook for weeks so that freezer is stocked for off days. Definately will be stacking it full as due date approaches.

Dalrymps · 21/02/2012 13:49

How did I miss Amethysts awful episode?! amethyst that must have been so scary! Do take care and rest as much as poss xx

ChateauMargot · 21/02/2012 13:57

Thanks, 1000! Feeling much better today, so I think it must have been something I ate, combined with stress over the house move.

Was a bit concerned to wake up on my stomach this morning - bump seemed huge last night, quite hard and soreish, so it was a surprise that I'd managed to sleep on it without any signs of protest from within! - but think I've had a couple of small kicks today, so trying not to worry too much.

Amythest, good to know I'm not the only one huffing and puffing! That fainting episode sounds terrifying - glad to hear you were seen quickly. I've had three 'spells' like that now - once around 12 weeks, once at a party around 16 weeks, and once over the weekend, when we were on a hot, crowded train (standing, as there wasn't any space to get close enough to a seat in the vain hope that someone might give theirs up). Haven't actually fainted yet, but each time had to put my head between my knees for a few minutes to gather myself. Hoping it had more to do with heat/standing for long periods, rather than a UTI...

Is the glucose test for everyone, or only in cases where diabetes is a concern?

And is anyone else looking into the Strep B test?

CathFin · 21/02/2012 14:04

Eeek Amethyst - thank god you called the ambulance! Very scary. Hope you are feeling a bit better now and get lots of rest.

Warlin - good luck with the second viewing!

Mini - hope you feel better soon too, being ill on top of pregnant is totally rubbish!

Kveta - you are too organised on the cooking front! I don't have a bit freezer, not quite sure how we have managed to eat vaguely normally with newborns in our house!

bemybebe · 21/02/2012 19:16

amethyst omg, how scary and how lucky that you have caught the uti and treated it in time! Sad please rest as much as you can

bemybebe · 21/02/2012 19:20

kveta i am trying to find some of those disposable food containers to freeze breaded fish fillets and mash in two portion batches over the coming months. i have already stuffed freezer full of pasta sauces, but as we dip into this stock already and I get rather tired of it I am looking for some fresher ideas. maybe pancakes?? Wink

Kayzr · 21/02/2012 19:24

Amethyst That is very very scary. I hope you are better soon.

I can't even begin to catch up.

I feel really bad again. I seemed to have 2 days of feeling better and now I am ill again. I have sinusitis(sp) and tonsilitis and I am on anti biotics and strong painkillers. Dr has said to rest but I can't with the boys, they need to go to school etc so I have been going to bed at 8ish to try and sleep.

I really really hope you are all well.

ffnorm · 21/02/2012 22:05

1000ff - no,they work on a no news is good news policy ie if you don't hear from them within a week then you assume all is good (fair enough if you can be guaranteed no one loses resultsShock) chateau it seems to vary from place to place - last pg they said as all the random blood sugars were low I didn't need the test. This hospital said as I have an increased BMI (aka I'm a fatty) I automatically need the test even though my random sugars are again on the low side.

Amethyst hope you are feeling ok now - do take it easy!! re breathlessness,it does get worse.I remember last time, trying to breath after eating was a challenge as baby, lungs and stomach battled for the space Grin

kveta you are inspirational - wow I hadn't even thought about food... but as my mother has booked to come 1 week before the EDD and is staying for 6 weeks,I'll leave the cooking up to her Grin

Chateau I did the Group B Strep test last time, bought the home kit for £30 and sent it off in the post.Even though it was negative,I'm glad I did it as it gave me peace of mind

3 of my friends have had baby girls in the last 5 days Smile so happy for all of them!!

rrrayray · 21/02/2012 22:21

Chateau - I had step B with DD. a swap was taken when I arrived at hosp as waters already gone, but results were back until I was home and DD 24 hours old. Midwife told me to insist I am swabbed at 36 weeks, as nothing to say will be carrying in this pregnancy too.

Have to say, it's my only worry about labour. As last time I wasn't in long enough to have had the antibiotics even if I had known, so I think we will go down the route of staying in for the baby to be monitored rather than iv drugs that almost certainly won't be in for long enough to have any effect.

Too sleepy to catch up with the rest of goings on, strep b just caught my eye!

Wishing you all a comfy nights sleep! X
