Hi girls,
Amethyst So glad you called when you did you listened to your instinct! Hope you are taking it easy now. Phew!
RHI Butterfly -- How is the SPD? Is the Physio helping? I see mine again next week. The support belt is really helping but I'm still on pain killers, some days worse than others.
Kayzr Aghhhh! I'm sorry you're unwell, sending you a hug in a mug! It's so, so hard being unwell and having young children to care for. It's really a testing time. I'll log on tomorrow to see how you're doing I do hope you can grab some sleep here and there during the day. Bless you.
bemybebe -- Do you need freezer meal ideas? If so, I can email you some quick and easy recipes. I've had 7 surgeries with recovery so kind of got used to freezing ahead and have a little database in place :)
Kveta -- Toddler stories are lovely! My 3.5 year old never ceases to amaze me. I don't want him to get any bigger! His 5 and 6 year old brothers seem so grown up in comparison.
mamma - good to hear you're better now.
Dalyrmps -- Hope you enjoyed unadulterated pancakes.
Milly, Warlin, Newbies, TDW, TeanHobs, Rray, Chateau, FFnorm, Florin, 1000F, Mini, Cath, Special -- Sending you all Brew
Hope i haven't forgotten anyone x

Warlin · 22/02/2012 10:15

Morning all

kayzr I feel for you, that's horrible....sending you aget well Brew. Just right to go to bed early and try and get as much rest as you can...hard I know with work and DC.

I still have a really sore throat and feel a bit queasy this morning. I really want to feel 100% (even for day) as I feel bad constantly winging to DH about a new ailment.

I went to see my wee niece last night which was lovely but I was so tired and got really hormonal.....went into a grump at Dh for no real reason...:) When oh when is this glowing phase going to start. For those who have been here before, does it ever get any better or only worse?????

On th bright side (thankfully there are some) we have scan tonight..whoop whoop...can't wait to see LO again but bit apprehensive as its the 24 week heart scan and hope everything's ok...keep your fingers crossed for me....

No news on second viewers yet...DH said they still seemed a bit undecided.....argggghhhhh

Hope everyone has a good day, sorry haven't mentioned everyone but just had time for a quick winge..sorry :( Will catch up properly later x

Dalrymps · 22/02/2012 11:06

Morning ladiesSmile

Kayzr You really are suffering at the mo. hope you feel better soon.

ecstatica Thanks, yes, I enjoyed 4 pancakes with various toppings mm mmmGrin

Hope your Spd doesn't get any worse, glad the belt is helping a bit.

We're all still coughing away here, poor ds2 is the worstSad

Had my 24wk app with the midwife yesterday. I'm 25 wks today although she worked out I was 25wks yesterday Hmm Anyway, I was measuring 26wks, unusual for me as I usually measure spot on or under. Had ketones in my unrefined, she asked me if I was eating enough and I nearly laughed as I'm a bit of a greedy guys lately. She said I was probably just a bit dehydrated after my cold. I have to admit I'm a bit rubbish at keeping on top of drinking fluids.. Took a while to find babies heartbeat but I wasn't too worried as I could feel the little monkey wriggling around and kicking the Doppler!Smile

How is everyone today? Sorry haven't personally mentioned everyone, posting from my phone as usual. I am reading along though.

Kayzr · 22/02/2012 12:28

There has been a big crash outside my house. The driver has had a heart attack and crashed into a wall and caused other crashes. Both Yorkshire Air Ambulances have been here and the road closed. There are police everywhere.

The driver has died and as I left to get DS2 from playschool they were putting the body in the ambulance in a bag.

Feeling very very shaken up by it all. Sad

bemybebe · 22/02/2012 12:43

kayzr Shock how upsetting for you all guys! big hugs and a Brew

bemybebe · 22/02/2012 12:45

ecstatica meal ideas would be absolutely grand, I will pm you immediately with my email address, thank you so much i have no ideas of my own I am afraid

bemybebe · 22/02/2012 13:06

guys, fwiw... i have been doing some window shopping on the internet and came across The Birthing Shirt Company, which sells (as one can guess)... birthing/breastfeeding/skin2skin shirts made from silky bamboo fibre mix... Yesterday I bit the bullet and bought two!

The order arrived today, it is gorgeous. The shirt has buttons down the front and slits on the sides, which is very handy, whist the design is good enough for walking around the hospital. The fabric is stretchy and soft and feels very luxurious. My only reservation is the weight - it feels warm, but we are expecting in June and I hope it won't be too warm to wear in the hot summer days.

They run an offer at the moment and although it is still pricey at 29.99, it IS absolutely gorgeous and I am very excited. And shhh... if you mention "I am a lactivist" in the instructions to the seller section on paypal page they will include a free headband.

Kveta · 22/02/2012 13:12

ooh, ecstatica could I possibly get meal ideas too? there's only so many meals we can eat that are mince based!

Kayzr hope you are all ok, how scary.

Dalrymps how many appointments do you get with the MW? here we get 7 apparantly (8 weeks, 16 weeks, 28 weeks, then 32, 36, 38 + 40 weeks), but 10 for the 1st pregnancy. just booked my 28 week one, it's the same week as my GTT, so I'll be 28 weeks then. Not long to go now, yikes.

Warlin hope the scan goes well tonight!

baby is not very motile today, but am getting the odd bladder tap. So different from DS, it's weird. SPD seems to be developing apace, so I am looking forward to seeing the midwife - I suspect the response will be to refer me for a physio appt which will come through after baby arrives, as seems to happen to so many people!

we had a lot of pancakes last night - cheese/ham/spinach to start with, then strawberry and chocolate cream cheese for afters. the new philly with chocolate is worryingly nice...

I made an utter prat of myself at work today - walked into the office after dropping DS off at nursery and said 'good morning sausage!' to my colleague Blush he was very Hmm at me, and I was praying for the earth to swallow me whole! luckily no more has been said of it, but jeez, I felt like such a muppet!

OP posts:
bemybebe · 22/02/2012 13:16

kveta please call your hospital and find out if you need to have a referral. in my hospital physios were very clear that if you develop symptoms that need attention, they are happy for mums to self-refer

Warlin · 22/02/2012 16:43

Kayzr hope you're ok, that's freaky. Esp to see the guy being carried away...I live near a hospice and it gets me every time when the private ambulance arrives....:(

Kveta very funny Grin. that made me laugh! Your boss must have been confused!

bemy interesting...I saw that website the other day and they did look lovely...but thought £29.95 was quite pricey...no idea what to wear though....I don't own a nightdress but in OBEM they seem to wear anything..even tracksuit bottoms at the start.....any advice from those that have been there before.

I will def buy one of those shirts if I need it though..liked the dark colour!

Dalrymps · 22/02/2012 18:12

Kveta - ooh I haven't counted how many. There's a guide in my notes so maybe I'll check that. It's a small midwife led unit here and I'm sure sometimes you get extra appointments, along the same lines as a first timerHmm I remember last time thinking they didn't need to see me but had booked me in for a check up anyway. I have the next app in 3 weeks so I'll be around 27 weeks thenConfused

I'm not complaining though, I like hearing baby's heartbeatSmile She said they're gonna take bloods next time so I guess it must be a routine one..

Kayzr that's just an awful thing to witnessSad hope you're feeling a bit less shaken now..

AmethystMoon · 22/02/2012 21:03

Thank you all for your kind wishes, I am feeling much better and hope to work from home tomorrow.
Chateau sorry to hear you've been feeling faint too...although slightly relieved I'm not the only one.
Ffnorm I'm getting breathless after eating too, feel really full up, even when I've hardly eaten!
Good luck with your scan tonight Warlin :)
Kayzr I am so sorry to hear about the accident outside your home, very sad and very distressing for you :(
Off to watch OBEM...from behind a cushion Blush

Kayzr · 22/02/2012 21:16

Thanks everyone. I feel a bit better about it. Everything looks normal outside except for the wall that has been destroyed.

There have been news reporters outside the house for local news and newspapers. That was a bit strange so I have had the curtains closed nearly all day.

I have had a few shaky moments when I thought I could have easily been walking on the pavement where he hit the wall with the boys. But I have to stop thinking about that.

Hope you are all ok.

greengoose · 23/02/2012 07:59

Hi all, I just thought I'd pop in and say hi, I've been popping in and checking out how you are all getting on, but hearing Warlin, Extatica, and Florin wondering how I was was lovely, so I thought I should update a bit.....
We are having a little girl, and because of a very rare growth from the base of her spine we are being monitored very closely both at home in Devon and in Bristol. I will need a Ccs which will prob be at great ormand street at 37 weeks. After that she will need an op, and if all goes well apart from a whopper of a scar under her pant line..... She should be fine!
It's all been, and continues to be very scary, we have a scan every two weeks, which should be lovely, but is terrifying.... But so far things are ok and looking positive for her making it to 37 weeks.
Sorry for stories of woe..... (I have had no email since Christmas, so any direct messages will have gone astray), I just didn't think it was fair to keep lurking, and not explain to those of you who I chatted to in the early weeks what had happened!
If its ok I'll keep popping by and putting my head round the door..... I miss you all!

AmethystMoon · 23/02/2012 08:38

Morning all

I've decided I'm going to work from home today, although maybe not a full day, I will see how I feel..still don't fancy driving as I am still getting light headed very easily, but it is getting better.

Hi greengoose I think you must have been on the forum before I joined but it's nice to hear from you as I've heard some of the others mention you recently. Congratulations on your little girl (I'm having a girl too) :) It must be very worrying for you and so stressful, I am glad they are scanning you regularly. I know it is not the same (I would never try to say I know how you must feel) but I have Spina Bifida Occulta (the milder type) and so knew I could pass it to my baby. I've had a few extra scans and they are pretty certain I've not passed it on but I was so worried about the little one having a spinal deformity because of what they would have to go through. I have my fingers (and everything else!) crossed for you and your little girl that everything goes as well as it possibly can for you both.

bemy those birthing shirts are lovely..but yes 29.99 - ouch! Maybe if I used it as a night shirt too...but still expensive..maybe it's the bamboo!?

Kveta · 23/02/2012 09:30

hi greengoose good to hear from you, and fingers crossed all goes well in the next few weeks - does the 37 week CS mean you'll be one of the first of us due now? not long now, anyway! my CMs eldest child had a growth on his kidney which was picked up in scans, and had to have operations and chemo for a few weeks/months after he was born, but is a very healthy (and chatty!) 11 year old now. GOSH is one of the best places in the world to be too, so you'll be in safe hands :)

bemy not sure about birthing shirts - I was in a hospital gown from fairly early on with DS, and then nothing once he was actually born! it's weird now to think about it, as I am very prudish normally, but at the time I was lying on the bed nude with a newborn on my chest, and I couldn't have given even the tiniest of shits who saw me!! However, I can understand why you would want something comfy for after the birth - I will be sticking with my aged pyjamas which I can hoick up for bfing, and which seem to be designed to fit any size of elephant woman, as they are so baggy and comfortable.

Amethyst have a good day working from home :)

Kayzr hope you got some sleep last night, it is so normal to feel shaken by witnessing something awful like that, so understandable if you still feel a bit wibbly today.

I managed 4 whole hours sleep last night, so although still feel wrecked, I'm more awake than normal for this time of day! I managed not to say hi to anyone at work with DS's nicknames this morning, which is good!

btw, some people mentioned prenatal yoga - what DVDs would you recommend? can't really do a class, and am not sure if it's recommended with SPD, but would love to do some sort of gentle exercise that doesn't involve chasing a 2 year old! I'm tempted to find a birthing ball too, as I have only heard good things about them. I think DS would love it too (my mum x-rayed a kid a few weeks ago who had broken his arm bouncing off his mum's birthing ball though, so am a bit wary of it!!).

2 days until the weekend, woohoo!

ffnorm · 23/02/2012 09:40

Greengoose it's good to hear from you! Congrats on your baby girl Smile Sorry to hear that it's been a stressful pregnancy... It is also hard to know you will have to come down to London to have the baby away from your family etc. If it helps - I know that the staff in NICU at GOSH will treat you well and the surgeons are amazing.
I know that it is difficult to come to a forum where everyone is having "normal" pregnancies, when things are difficult but if you can, please let us know how you and baby girl green get on,as we are all thinking of you!

rhibutterfly · 23/02/2012 09:40

ecstatica hi haven't seen physio yet first time tuesday, i did buy a support belt and it did help with pain but was uncomfortable on my stomach and the way the baby was kicking made me think she wasn't too impressed either so will ask physio which one best to try again, hope your feeling better with your spd , is physio helping you? think i'm hoping for miracle and one session will fix it. Had back massage yesterday which helped a bit but really bad again this morning, the pain seems to move around a lot started in right groin area with lots of pressure in undercarriage for first 3 weeks then moved to the hips and front of pelvis for 3 weeks and mostly all in the back this week, very strange, roll on labour day lol
Amethyst glad your taking it easy, look after yourself and your LO :)

Warlin · 23/02/2012 09:41

Greengoose so lovely to hear from you! Had been wondering how you were and when I saw you in that other thread I wanted to cry. Didn't know whether to say anything and look nosey but really wanted to offer reassurance. It does sound like all will be well and at least you are getting monitored really closely. It must be so stressful for you and I want you to know that we are here if you want to talk....sending you huge positive vibes though! And congrats on your girl Grin. Hope the shop is going well?

Sorry guys haven't had time to read this morning and have a meeting now so just a quick post but will catch up properly later...

We had scan last night (not the heart one as mix up with dates and it's the 13th March). All seemed well with baby and consultant said it was def a boy as he had his hand on his penis Grin typical male!

Anyway he is sitting really low and his head is right down at the exit...! He has always been like that and consultant said it will likely be impossible to get the 4D scans done :( I'm really worried he will try and come far too early. Dr started to say that if I felt any leakage contact him right away and they would give me steroids to try and prevent labour..Shock. I'm panicked now.....he said it was an ideal position for the the birth and he hopes he stays like that but there is a risk I might not make it to 40 weeks.....any advice....?? Totally panicked now...

rhibutterfly · 23/02/2012 09:43

greengoose thinking of you and good luck, sending hugs xxx

Kayzr · 23/02/2012 09:53

Greengoose congratulations on your girl. I'm sorry to hear you are having a rough time. Someone I know was transferred to GOSH straight after birth and she said everyone there was brilliant.

rhibutterfly · 23/02/2012 09:53

hi warlin how many weeks are you exactly, wish could give better advice but not been in this position myself, please please try not to panic, your in good hands and being monitored closely by the sounds of it , have some stern words with your little man and tell him he has to stay put where it's nice and warm.My sister had my nephew at 36 weeks when they discovered he'd stopped growing they estimated him to be 34 weeks size, he was 4lb 5oz breathing on his own and came home at 7 days he the most energetic six year old i know, hope this helps, sorry i'm crap at advice xx

rhibutterfly · 23/02/2012 10:01

just looked at list again and realised out of all us ladies due in June there's not one twin pregnancy, where i live there's been a surge of twin births lately x

ffnorm · 23/02/2012 10:15

Kayzr what a horrible thing to witness...

bemy I think they look like lovely maternity tops but don't know if they would be too warm/snug for delivery.Went to visit my friend in postnatal ward on Monday and I had forgotten how hot they are...

Kveta what's that about Philadelphia with chocolate??? Haven't heard about/seen it - is it chocolate swirled through the Philly??? Sounds amazing Grin

I don't seem to be able to shake this cold or I have managed to get another cold on the back of the 1st one Confused as I feel like rubbish again just as I thought I was feeling better.

Going to watch OBEM when DS naps - think the hairdressing couple look interesting.

Novmama · 23/02/2012 12:02

Hi everyone

Have just spent the morning catching up with this thread as its been awhile since I logged in and messaged. Colds and virus all round at this end - thought I was going to get away with it as I'd had the flu jab but no such luck. Very tired and anaemic. Taking iron tablets after having taking Spatone for 2 months which clearly hasn't worked Feel like I'm wading through treacle to do the most basic tasks - so working and looking after DD challenging. Also very tearful - anyone else an emotional wreck? OBEM made me sob more than usual last night; parents telling me they wish I'd been a mother at 19 rather than late 30s/early 40s has left me devestated. Just typing it is bringing tears to my eyes as they will never find out what DD and no 2 turn out like and do as adults (my folks are in their late 60s/early 70s).Sad
However lots of kicks from LO and big tummy - am 25 weeks now. Was at VBAC clinic yesterday - still deciding what to do - althought after watching OBEM last night feel like opting for elective c/s.

Amethyst re shirts - they are lovely but I really wouldn't worry about what you are wearing. I wore a Mothercare night shirt but ended up in a hospital gown for epidural and then c/s. Plus labour ward is very warm - if we have an early summer it will be hot!

Interesting comments re antenatal classes. I think NCT is just too expensive. Althought I know people who went and made good friends. I have one good friend from having DD and we met at the local NHS antenatal class so it just goes to show you. However last time round I did attend a class run by Gentlebirth (sorry rubbish at inc links but if you google them you will find them). It was excellent in terms of content (4 couples in attendance) and price was £60 for the day inc lovely snacks and a goodie bag. If you are in the Kent/SE London area I highly recommend them. They are a team of midwives and very committed to informing mothers. They cover all issues - for me ending up with an emerg c/s the exercise on what happens to you when you have a c/s was invaluable.

Greengoose - sorry to hear you are having a difficult time but sounds as if you are in good hands.

Oh well back to work....
