Starlight - I had to go back and do some reading too, think my memory is probably at fault rather than being told the wrong facts although I'm not sure that I really knew that entonox crosses the placenta too.

Wednesday already - half term is going quite quickly!

Florin · 15/02/2012 07:47

tdw I bet you are counting down the hours until your dh is home now-I am so excited for you!
I had a lovely valentines. Dh cooked me a lovely dinner, we had champagne and a roaring log fire. We agreed no presents but he had gone out to baby gap and bought Baby Jasper a present of a little babygro which was very sweet of him.

ecstatica · 15/02/2012 08:37

Morning all,
Awww...a few nice Valentines being had there -- lovely!

TDW -- I can't believe the time has finally come for your DH to be home. I am so happy for you :) :)

Shelduck -- Thank you, I have my days, feeling bright and bubbly again :)

Hello to everyone this morning!

Dontbugmemalone · 15/02/2012 10:38

Good morning everyone :),

I hope everyone had a good Valentine's day.

Yes, getting up in the night is highly annoying! I feel tired ALL THE TIME. Anyone else feel like this?

My DS has decided the best method to wake me up in the morning is to ask "Where's the brother or sister mummy?" and then lifts up my pyjama top and blows raspberries on my stomach Hmm. I have no idea why.

I have a question about pushchairs, if anyone can help.

We have a Britax vigour 3+ (we bought it more than 2 years ago, so it's quite 'old' now) pushchair. We don't currently have a newborn car seat, so does anyone know which would be the best one to fit on the pushchair?
Also, the pushchair is from 6 months +, so I guess that means we have to buy a bassinet(?) too?

Kveta · 15/02/2012 10:57

hi all, hope you had a good day yesterday - Mini your DH sounds so lovely and thoughtful! TDW how are you not just jumping up and down with excitement at the moment?! hope the next few days pass in a speedy blur!! how lovely of him to remember valentines day too!

Dontbugme we have a Britax Vigour 3+ too, I'm going to miss it so much! I think a Britax carrycot could double up as a car seat and pram for the first few months, we were certainly looking into that. I think all Britax car seats should be compatible with the base though. We used ours from 5 months with DS, and had no issues - I think the 6 months + is a bit ass-covering of the company tbh. My DS also blows raspberries on my tummy and says 'hello baby sister in le tummy!' cute :o

He decided he had to join me whilst I had a shower yesterday, and was peering at me over the side of the bath going 'mummy no clothes. Milk! 2 milks! baby sister in le tummy! where mummy willy? mummy knees yucky. baby tummy!' so that was nice Hmm got to love your child passing judgement on your body... Not sure what's wrong with my knees though! :o

London was great yesterday, although I am broken today! Definitely getting SPD, grr. Or just old age, ha ha... I can barely walk today, so am doing that wonderful pregnant woman waddle everywhere and wincing at going up or down stairs. DS LOVED the train journey, and it was great to see my friend from the US again - she brought me so much American candy though, I'm not sure we'll ever get through it all! (1.2kg of m+ms, for example, yikes!! and some reeces peanut butter cups, and yorks peppermint patties, all in ludicrous bag sizes. Got to love America :o) Also gave me this book as a birthday present (she knows me too well!) and brought some adorable baby clothes for DD! We now have a house full of sugar though, as I got a big chocolate cake from DH, and a bag of mini-eggs from a friend, and DH got some chocs from me last week - bit too much really, so that will curb our spending for a wee while! And will give us all diabetes...

I am thinking of taking either tomorrow or friday off work and spending the day in bed, I am so so tired. I woke at 1.33 last night and just could not get back to sleep, and it was 2.30 the previous night. Not massively busy just now, so I could probably get away with it. and I have so much holiday to use up - something like 15 days left to take before maternity leave. I know I'd end up doing housework instead of resting though, as DH works from home both days, and I can't relax when he's working!!

sorry for the essay, am avoiding writing a news flash for work. I should go and channel my verbal (dextral?!) diahorrea into something productive though.

Dontbugmemalone · 15/02/2012 11:51

Kveta haha your DS sounds like mine. He's always asking where my willy is too. It's nice to know you can have a shower in please, he he.
How old is he?
Mine is always tell ing me to finish singing :)

That's a good idea about the carrycot (for some reason, I couldn't remember the name). I'll have a look online later to see if there are any cheap second hand ones.
That's even better to know you can use it from 5 months.
I really like the Britax too, especially as you can use it parent facing as well.
It's very easy to push as well :)

Sounds like you had a great time in London.

Miniangel · 15/02/2012 12:49

Kveta Sounds like you had a great time yesterday. That's a lot of chocolate.....can I come over to have some? Hope you feel better soon and can take some time off.
Florin your DH sounds lovely. How very thoughtful and nice of him to get baby Jasper a gift. Glad you had a great time.
TDW yipeee the time is here for your DH to come home. Hope you have a lovely time with him.

Pregnancy massage was heavenly and I would highly recommend it as a treat. The meal was awsesome too. The only downside to yesterday twas that I have been diagnosed with another urine infection which is making me feel rough. Went to the maternal medicine clinic at the hospital today and they have put me on low dose antibiotics till the end of my pregnancy to prevent further occurences. My Iron and vit D are low too so more supplements on the way.

Happy hump day. 2 more days to the weekend.

millyv · 15/02/2012 13:09

Afternoon everyone!

You have all been busy since I've been away - it's taken me ages to catch up!

Congrats to all of those with scans, welcome to all of the 'new' ladies and hello to everyone!

Had a fabulous time in Dubai, DH and his sisters treated me to an afternoon tea in the burj al arab - the 7 star hotel - it was amazing - I was spoilt rotten! It was also so lovely to be in the sun, although their 'winter' weather of 28.c on the last day was a little too hot for me!

Back into the swing of being home now, spent last night washing loads of clothes and then settled to watch OBEM - omg - I was sobbing my eyes out at the birth of poor Laragh, DH came home from work and was panicking as I was so upset - although he declined to watch it to see how awful it was - apperently my words and tears were enough to believe me!

Hope everyone is ok!

Xxx

thedogwalker · 15/02/2012 16:29

Florin that is a lovely valentine present from your DH, don't baby clothes just make you go all goey Smile
Kveta made me laugh at the yucky knees Grin. Mini sorry to hear about the infection, hope it clears soon and you feel better. Milly see you tonight on the OBEM thread, I cry every week.
Well I've had great news today, my DH is already on his way home and should land tomorrow, 24 hours earlier than planned, so I am happy, happy, happy. Will probably not post much over the next 2 weeks as I have a lot of catching up to do Wink before he has to leave again. I will try and log and keep updated, keep well and stay healthy xx

ecstatica · 15/02/2012 16:37

Welcome home Millyv -- sounds like a great holiday.
Well, it's been easy to catch up on here today :) Mini aghhh...sorry to hear about UI, but I'm glad that they are taking precautions to prevent any more. Massage sounds heavenly.
Dontbugme -- that's boys for you isn't it? Why don't you have a willy mummy?
Kveta I hope you are not getting SPD but that's what it does sound like! Day out sounded great and v.jealous of candy giving friend. Love the book -- hadn't heard of it before and found some of the reviews amusing.

My hospital appt for physio/crutches has been brought fwd to tomorrow, hurray! Made mandatory visit to Lush this afternoon and have to admit that I spent way too long choosing pampering treats again -- seem to be choosing lots of 'rose' inspired stuff this time - lush!
DS2's 5th birthday party will be Friday, have enjoyed preparing it but sadly did not make cake, Spiderman one will suffice courtesy of Sainsbury's I think.
DS1 and 2 still at grandparents till Friday so leaving DS1 with my dad and going for Chinese. Hurray -- been ages.

Kveta -- Did I beat your essay? ;)

Warlin · 15/02/2012 16:44

Hi All

welcome home milly..Dubai sounds fab. I have been in the Burj al arab for cocktails..very classy but not cheap!! Would love time in the sum right now.

TDW so happy for you, you must be so so excited...! Fab news and esp when you were expecting a Friday return. Hoe exciting that he will see your bump and feel closer to the baby. Enjoy having him home.

Mini hope you feel better soon, that sounds rough. Thought the massage sounds fab!

DH cooked for me last night too and bought flowers. He got a cheque through the post for £1000 from a savings account he'd had as a child and had forgotten about...so he was in great form. He says it will buy a new tv and maybe some speakers.......Shock......I said what about painting the nursery and stuff for the baby???? Men Grin

Still feeling pretty rotten today. Cold really bad and have been coughing so much I was actually sick yesterday. I'm actually really worried of the effect on the baby...am worried he will get whip lash in there!! Feel like I'm disturbing the poor wee mite all the time with my constant coughing.

Hopefully good news on the house.......the viewers loved it and have provisionally agreed price. They want to come back tom night and then hopefully agree.......keeping everything crossed. We could be moved in a month if all goes to plan..the beach is calling me now spring is almost here.

Looking forward to OBEM tonight too...that and an evening of cleaning!

Hi to everyone else x

ecstatica · 15/02/2012 17:00

Hi Warlin Yes typical man decision but I'd have to go with him on that one! Fond memories of newborn breastfeeding and vegetating on sofa with movies and nibbles :) I hope things progress with the house now sounds like the day has brought good news.

Right you guys are getting me curious about OBEM, might have to watch on iplayer or something.

SeriouslyStrongCheddar · 16/02/2012 08:26

Morning all!

Just thought I'd pop in quickly to say 'hi'! My internet at home is down and no tech slots until Monday so unless it ressurects itself in the next day or so, won't be checking in much for a few days!

Managed to look like a total muppet last night. Have been feeling baby move for weeks, although not from the outside (if you know what I mean) other than one possible kick when I happened to have my hand on bump, which I disregarded as wasn't sure.

Baby was very active yesterday and movements are getting much stronger so last night I was lying in bed watching TV with my hand on bump as usual and felt the most almighty kick. What did I do? Did I calmly say to DH 'oh, baby's kicking now'. Nope. I squealed, pulled my hand away like it was burnt and squeeked 'oooh, there's something in there' Hmm. DH looked at me and just said 'well....yes' Blush.

However, at least DH got to feel baby move for the first time shortly after, which was good - although he looked more surprised at a later kick that he saw rather than felt Grin.

Anyway, hope you all have a good day - see you when my internet at home is working again or I get a chance to sneak a peek at work, like this!

TeaandHobnobs · 16/02/2012 09:05

Yay for kicking SSC! my bump is also going mental at times (I'm wound up about work so I think he may be reacting to all the adrenaline). It is lovely to feel him, but he does seem to go for a kickfest while I'm trying to concentrate on something and it is very distracting!

Can anyone offer some reassurance? Just fell splat on my front in the road outside the station Sad I think hands and knees took more brunt than bump, but I am freaked out now (although he is still kicking me). Will someone tell me that it is fine and he has lots of fluid cushioning him, etc?

thedogwalker · 16/02/2012 09:21

Tea your LO is surrounded by lots of fluid and he won't have a felt a thing. Get yourself into a nice coffee shop and have a cuppa and a lovely bun to cheer yourself up. Monitor thee kicking through the day just as a precaution. Its your knees and hands I'm more worried about as you will have jolted yourelf to protect you and LO.

SpecialJK · 16/02/2012 10:23

I wrote something really long yesterday, but then mumsnet went mental and I got an error message and now I've lost it!

anyway, hope all are well. I dreamt I had a 22lb baby last night Shock I bloomin hope not!

Bump is also kicking lots more too, I'm dying for DH to feel it, but he always stops when I put his hand there! Sad

Miniangel · 16/02/2012 11:16

Tea I agree with TDW your LO will be just fine. Do look after yourself and get a nice treat. Do contact your midwife and go listen to the heartbeat in case you need reassurance.

ceeej · 16/02/2012 11:24

Tea I did this a couple of weeks ago and I went into total panic but phoned the midwife and she said they are very padded in their little bubble and you would have to have sustained major injuries before the baby even notices. I agree with TDW get yourself a coffee and try to relax and enjoy the kicking. I also phoned a friend for a general chat which really helped take my mind off things whilst my adrenalin levels came down. Do make sure you look after your knees though, I forgot to clean mine up at all and then noticed in the evening that they had bits of dirt in them!

10000fireflies · 16/02/2012 12:48

Avo everyone

Sounds like you had a lovely time in Dubai Milly. Am looking forward to a few days in Italy at Easter, but not sure how warm it will be then.

Ecstatica hope your physio appt today goes well.

SSC hope you?ve got over the surprise of having a baby in there!! Grin

Tea hope you?ve recovered from your fall and feel reassured by what the others said about cushioning etc. Take it easy and don?t let yourself get too stressed by work. It?s not worth it.

Special OMG, now a 22lb baby would be a bit of a challenge to push out!! Ouch!! Glad those vivid dreams I was having have gone for a bit.

I am finally getting something I could almost describe as kicking movements. Is more bubbling, but there's definitely something going on in there!!

OBEM was fascinating last night. Esp interesting to see how the MW coped. Poor love!!

Nearly Friday?.

Kveta · 16/02/2012 12:56

TDW have an amazing time with your DH, enjoy your fortnight, and I hope baby behaves perfectly at the scan!

Dontbugme DS is 2.4, and hard hard work at the moment! How old is yours?

Tea baby will be fine, just look after yourself!

Special DH keeps asking if I'm sure there was only one baby on the scan, because for some reason he is having nightmares about it being twins :o poor love!

SSC it's so odd when you feel those first kicks through the abdomen, isn't it?! I still have days of 'oh, it must just be wind' then she gives a hefty boot to the bladder which sends me running to the loo, and I believe she's there again :o

I am so over cake now, we have had so so much for the past few days, and have another large choc cake to get through, then I need to make a new one for the weekend, as we have friends coming round. Never thought it was possible to be sick of cake before! I am not making any for a good week or so after all these birthdays!

DS used the toilet again yesterday (complete with eye contact and grunting - ah the things we can remind him of when he's a teenager :o) and was very proud of himself. I let him have a choc button, and he was hugely pleased - then promptly filled his nappy copiously. Sigh. He also managed to wake up at 4.30 this morning and not go back to sleep, the little sod. He sat in our bed, with me studiously ignoring him, going (in a stage whisper) 'Daddy, mummy sleeping. SSSSSSHHHHHHH' then started muttering about socks. We got up at 5.30 in the end, and I managed a load of washing (washed and hung up!) before leaving for work. Not impressed! However, I slept so much better last night, so feel more human today.

1.5 days until the weekend, woo!

AmethystMoon · 16/02/2012 12:57

Hi all
Thank you starlight for the information and getting me started with some names to google!
Kveta your story about the shower had me in stiches, oh I can't wait to have a little person passing judgement Grin
Miniangel I'm pleased you enjoyed your massage, sounds heavenly, but very sorry to hear of your UI :(
Dubai sounds wonderful Millyv glad you had a nice time :)
Sorry to hear you're feeling poorly Warlin, and I hope you feel better very soon...fingers crossed here for your house..let us know how it goes?
Seriously, I am still slightly Shock about your visible bump kick!! I've had nothing like that strong...got me worried now, still just occasional flutters for me.
Teaandhobnobs - I did exactly the same thing in Tesco last week, baby fine, MW said all very padded in there. However I have severe bruising to my right knee cap, more bruising on my left knee and two sore hands :( just so long as our LO are okay though :)

I'm really tired today, my DP works for the emergency services and was on call last night. We had phone calls all through the night as they updated him on various incidents across the county! I really don't mind as it's his job, he works very hard and is good at what he does...but since being pregnant I sleep very lightly and it affects me much more. Pre-pregnancy, I just used to sleep through it all Grin.

Warlin · 16/02/2012 13:00

I'm having a panic too....my horrendous cold is still here to the point I was coughing up blood last night! My head hurts so much that it's too sore to cough so going to docs this aft.

Anyway have been drinking lempsip past couple of days (3 sachets in total). A girl in work told me I shouldnt be drinking them...now I'm terrified I've hurt the LO. Google tells me they are bad but too late, I have had them. Would 3 sachets really do any harm.....?? So panicked now Shock. Also worried all the coughing has hurt him too....?

tea your LO will be fine. My dog has stood on my stomach several times and it's been fine. They are really well cushioned but I agree to see your midwife if you are worried.

Hoping the dr will listen to baby's heart this afternoon for reassurance. I can feel lots of movements but no kicks yet that DH can feel.

Just feel so run down at the moment. Work is so busy and I can't take time off yet I wish I could get rid of this cold/ cough/ chest infection....:(

Sorry for the winge x

Kveta · 16/02/2012 13:10

Warlin we are not supposed to take Lemsip, but I really would not worry yourself. The active drugs in lemsip are paracetemol which is fine, and phenylephrine, which is the problem one (see here). I'd stop taking it if I were you, and if you are really worried, ask the GP later to check your blood pressure and get the doppler out. But the chances of 3 sachets being an issue are slim :)

Please try and get some time off though, you need it if you're coughing up blood. Coughing won't hurt baby btw :) I have a 2 year old repeatedly leaping on my bump from any angle possible, and baby is still kicking away, and babies can survive some incredible stuff - coughing should really not have any effect on them! However, you need to look after yourself so you don't feel rough for longer than necessary, so go home and spend the next few days in bed! That's an order! :o

OP posts:
Kayzr · 16/02/2012 14:42

Warlin you can take the boots basic lemsip. It's the one that only has paracetamol and ascorbic acid. It's fine to take during pregnancy.

I've been feeling really rubbish. The boys haven't been well either. I'll come and catch up when I feel more human.

Shelduck · 16/02/2012 15:00

Warlin - hope you're cold lets up soon. I've been off work all week, but my cold doesn't sound as horrible as yours. Not coughing too much, but I have been wondering what LO is making of my rather violent sneezes. I've also taken some Lemsip - will stop now, but I'm not going to worry about it. Thanks for the tip Kayzr.

ecstatica - hope your appointment went well today

TDW - have a fantastic weekend. You must be so excited!

Seriously - what a fantastic reaction to feeling your kicks! It made me laugh because that's exactly the sort of thing I'd say! Grin

Special - scary dream! A few weeks ago when we were both worried about the prospect of the scan, DH had a dream that, instead of using ultrasound, they actually took the baby out, gave it a quick once over, and shoved it back in. And DH was panicking saying to the sonographer "But won't it just fall straight out again, now?"

Kveta - I love hearing the stories about your son! Not having had much experience with young children, DH and I spent the weekend with my brother's toddler recently. It made me wonder why on earth I wanted to have a baby, but all the more certain that I did! (I'm sure your knees are lovely, BTW.)
