i was just speaking to one of my sisters on skype and she said happy birthday for tomorrow, so I said thanks, can't believe I'm going to be 30 already, and she went white, and said 'shit, 30? I totally forgot! we all thought your 30th was next year!' Which would explain why I haven't got any cards in the post yet :o Not sure whether to be massively insulted (they forgot my 21st too, nobody forgot their 21sts!), or delighted that I am clearly very youthful looking :o

however, I just went to make fish and chips for dinner and found 3 very aged and decrepit potatoes in the drawer, so am having to bulk it up with baked beans. Not a great day for memory in our family it would seem...

Just realised I missed some posts. Thank you for the link 10000fireflies it looks lovely, I am very tempted :) I think if there's any further growth I may get one!

Just had my food shopping delivered (working from home today) and made a point of sticking my bump out, as last week the delivery person didn't even offer to carry it in for me. Luckily DP was on hand to do it, but I was on my own today, so for the first time actually 'played' on being pregnant Grin

SpecialJK the person I bought my second hand icandy from did say they are shorter and her DD grew out of it more quickly than she would have other makes. However my plan is exactly what you've considered, to switch to a maclaren fold up by then as they're much smaller to lug around. The icandy seems ot be well made as mine is in excellent condition. However I'm a first timer so as I've said before wonderfully naive and maybe not someone to take advice from Grin

Warlin · 13/02/2012 16:40

Happy 30th for tmw kveta Thanks I would take it as a compliment..you shouldn't be mad with anyone who thinks you have another year in your 20s left!!! I hated turning 30 but at least you have a lvoely year in store :)

mini I ordered the Bugaboo Camelion (red and black) with the maxi cosi car seat. I really love it. We would ideally liek a second child quite soon but didn't want to tempt fate by getting the donkey and find it a bit big for one. Though maybe in another 6 months those plans will be on hold :)

Florin hope scan went well, looking forward to hearing the news.

Everyone seems very organised..other than the pram and one wee babygrow I have nothing. We are still in house limbo so can't really think about the nursery yet, plus DH is a tad superstitious and won't let me buy too much too soon :(

crackersncheese · 13/02/2012 16:57

Hi all,

Has anyone else got their antenatal classes booked yet? I got mine through today starting at the end of March for 4 weeks. Is this too early? Apparently the next set of classes finish at the beginning of June which guess is pushing it a bit. Worried about not meeting people if all the other mums are due earlier / forgotting everything / maybe I should get a grip and ignore the baby hormones :)

Hi dontbugme

happy birthday tomorrow kveta

Hope the coughs and colds are getting better

SeriouslyStrongCheddar · 13/02/2012 18:37

Evening all!

Welcome Dontbugme!

Florin - hope scan has gone well for you.

crackers - interesting point re antenatal classes.

I looked at the NCT ones but thought they were very expensive for what you got so we decided against them. To be honest, I'm not sure we're going to bother - we're not really bothered about meeting other parents-to-be (think we're antisocial!) and we're quite relaxed about everything. I'm a bit of a research fanatic so have read up and anything and everything that takes my interest (got a couple of books by Ina May Gaskin and they were really interesting - one on childbirth, one on breastfeeding). Any other first timers not bothering?

Florin · 13/02/2012 21:08

Scan went well and baby growing well which is a huge relief. Very glad we had gender scan as he spent this scan with his legs crossed so wouldn't have been able to find out. Apparently he was very well behaved apart from that and got all measurements very quickly.
mini we have the Anna glider crib from John Lewis. Bought it from eBay for £40 not a mark on it and it's really lovely, although cat has taken up home in it. Will have to get him out of that habit!
Waves to everyone else hope everyone has good weeks!

MammaInTheMaking · 13/02/2012 21:44

I'm not bothering seriously and I'm a first timer. We looked at them and they were far to expensive for us. I'm also doing loads of reading and have a good friend locally with a 7 month old so can call on her for advice. we're going to go to the 2 NHS ones later on in the pregnancy. Am doing the preggo yoga I mentioned before so will perhaps meet some ladies there. I don't want to be forced into making friends though, they have to be similar people to us if you see what I mean....

MonkeyJr · 13/02/2012 22:00

Hi All,

Had my 20 week scan today and all good! Bump was not playing ball so still not sure what flavour but that can be a surprise for the big day:-)

Glad everyone else is having as much trouble with bras and pushchairs. I am into my third lot of bras and still growing - it is getting ridiculous! I am taking DH shopping ths weekend for pushchairs etc, the poor thing doesn't know what's in store ;-) Anyone got any views on the Quinny Buzz vs Phil and Teds? They seem to be my favourite at the moment with the bugaboo and iCandy peach as well?

Have a good week!

Kayzr · 13/02/2012 22:05

Florin and Monkey I'm glad your scans went well Grin

Seriously and Mamma I didn't do them with DS1. They cost a fortune and couldn't get there either.

DS2 is in my bed. He's been sick but I think it's from coughing lots rather than anything else. He's sooooo cute though. He's got his arms behind his head and has adorable little snores. I imagine tomorrow morning I won't find him so cute unless I can sleep.

Dalrymps · 13/02/2012 22:29

Glad the scans went well MonkeyJr and Florin

Re the Quinny Buzz vs Phil and Teds, I have a buzz, it has lasted ages so far and is easy to put up (frame pops up itself). I've heard good things about Phil and teds too though. I suppose the main difference would be that the Quinny can have baby facing you or away and the Phil and teds can't (Is that right?). Then there's the fact that Phil and teds would be more of an investment if you're thinking you'll need a double in the future.. Personal preference I guess!

I'm not sure who mentioned it but with regards to pram sizes.. We have always swapped to a lightweight stroller once dc were old enough. Lighter/ easier to use and lift in and out the car etc. Takes up less room too.

Anyone thinking of using a sling? I have a hug a bun stretchy wrap which I think I'll use at first. Wondering If I can get away without using a pram and move straight on to the buzz at around 12 weeeks. We'll see!

ellybett · 13/02/2012 23:09

Well that serves me right for spending a week in deepest darkest Gloucestershire with no internet! 4 pages to catch up on ladies, but I note that the majority seems to be about shopping so you are forgiven!

Happy 30th for tomorrow kveta! It was mine last year and I didn't freak out nearly as much as I thought I would! Hope you're massively spoilt!

Welcome dontbugme!

dalrymps I am definitely going to be buying a Moby wrap as soon as I can snap up an ebay bargain. They look the ideal thing to have for new bub whilst chasing after very active 2 year old! I'm weirdly really excited about getting one!

Hope ds is better soon kayzr.

Congrats on good scans florin and monkey.

Regarding prams, we bought the bugaboo bee for dd1 as we wanted one that would last until she was 3 or so. We have been really happy with it as it's soo easy to manouvre and put up/down. Downsides being my rather stocky 2 year old does seem quite big in it but generally refuses to sit in a buggy anyway! Will get a buggy board for it for the nursery run and hope for the best! It does take up a fair amount of boot space and ended up buying a Maclaren Triumph for our holidays in France.

I'm trying to be sensible! There is so much you can buy, and we did buy everything for dd1 and didn 't need half of it! I've prioritised what we do actually need and decided we're not going to buy a crib/ basket and either co-sleep at first or put bubs straight in the cot in a sleep support. So we're only buying an electric breast pump, a travel moses basket for downstairs naps, a moby wrap, buggy board and a bouncer. I'm basically thinking along the lines of anything that makes my life easier when trying to deal with 2 of them!

Had our gender scan and we're having another girl! I'm really happy as love the idea of 2 daughters and it's make it alot cheaper! Poor dd2 will be getting all the handmedowns! Will update my stats in a min.

Night all.

Dalrymps · 13/02/2012 23:27

elly Congrats on your little girl!

Sounds like you've got good plans for what you're going to buy.

Re the wrap sling. Moby will be great, once they're a bit older/heavier the stretchy ones tend to keep needing to be readjusted so then a woven wrap or something like a Mei tai is better. I've been doing my researchWink

SeriouslyStrongCheddar · 14/02/2012 06:39

Morning all!

Florin - glad scan went well.

elly - congrats on the girl!

Dalrymps - I've bought a cheap stretchy sling off ebay. I like the idea but I could do with one that's a bit longer (I'm fat, DH is tall) so have ordered two lots of cotton jersey from ebay in the relevant length and my mum's going to hem for me and they'll do. I will want a woven one for when baby is bigger, but given I've never even held a baby, the concept of having to juggle baby into wrap while tying it fills me with dread so I'm going with the 'tie stretchy sling then deposit baby in it' option to start with!

Hope everyone has a good day!

ecstatica · 14/02/2012 07:15

Good morning all
Happy Birthday K Sending Flowers to ya -- have a great day!

As always, happy to read all new scan news -- is there anyone left on the boat for scans?

A few of you have mentioned the Bugaboo Chameleon (or Bugaboo at least), I had a look at it and thought it was lovely. Will have to have a look at the other recommendations too, glad they've been discussed, needed a push in the right direction.

Have hospital appts for the next couple of weeks and then hopefully we can celebrate hitting the 24 week mark (12 days to go!) it seems like such a milestone to me. Anyone else really looking fwd to getting February out the way only 14 days to go!

Breakfast anyone? [passes round croissants and coffee]
Have a great V Day all :)

CathFin · 14/02/2012 07:19

I'm a fan of the nct classes, I found them so much more informative than the nhs ones. My nhs one had about 30 of us so was fairly unmanageable as a group who might plan on meeting up after the babies were born.

The nct one there were only 5 of us and we were all due pretty close together and sharing our birth and feeding drama's afterwards was very useful plus we then went on to organise things like baby massage and swimming classes to go to together when the babies were out so we had things to get out of the house for.
I know its not for everyone but our class teacher was very supportive as well and a great help.

Must go and check what make my baby bouncer is as DS loved it, the cheap one we got for DD was practically never used so I bought a decent one second time around!

Florin · 14/02/2012 07:31

Happy Birthday kveta have a lovely day!
I have just started looking at slings and not sure where to start its so confusing and they are expensive. Not sure dh will be convinced. Y anything else but the normal baby carrier type either!

ecstatica · 14/02/2012 07:36

Florin, i had a great sling but can't remember the name Blush it was the only one i'd used that didn't cause me any problems I will pop back later when I have a good think -- there was a website dedicated to their slings and they were popular. Will be back with name!
Also had a hip thing which helped immensely when I needed to carry the boys around as babies. It was called 'Hip something' -- my memory is not what it should be. Can only describe it as like a bum bag with a little perch/seat on the side :)
I had the Lindam door bouncer and it served the DC well. Was an absolute God send in the days of two toddlers and a newborn -- highly recommend.

ecstatica · 14/02/2012 08:10

Here it is: Hippychick Hip Seat (I would recommend esp if you have had any of the back/hip problems I have).
The sling was the 'Close Baby Carrier' -- HTH :)

Kveta · 14/02/2012 09:30

thanks everyone Thanks :) I am feeling very aged this morning, as DS was up from 2.30am wriggling around our bed and talking in his sleep about granny pig Hmm need to cut down on the Peppa Pig viewing I think. DH and DS got me a lovely new laptop, so hopefully that will be up and running by the weekend and I can spend even more time on mumsnet :o

re: slings - we have a bondolino one (with an extension because I'm such a fatso), and it's great. if anyone is Cambridge based and wants the name of a sling expert, PM me, as I work with one - she is sling mad! She recommended the Bondolino, as it's quite masculine too, so men don't mind using it, and if you get the extension, it will fit tall and fat people.

we have the Lindam door bouncer too, DS loved it! need to make sure we still have it actually, as I have lent it out a couple of times.

We have got a second hand baby swing too (well, think it's 4th or 5th hand actually!), which I have lent to my friend, and she thinks it is brilliant, as her DS is a bit of a velcro baby. She's getting 30 minute naps out of him now, so is delighted :o

DH and I did NCT classes and they were great - our teacher was very sensible, no 'natural birth or you're a FAILURE' bullshit, like some local ones apparently preach (again, there is one in Cambridge who is batshit insane very very pro-natural birth to the detriment of useful information, so beware! could get her name for you if any Cambs folk need it!). I am seeing some of my NCT friends this weekend, and we still meet up fairly often. DH found the actual classes more useful than I did, as he didn't read anything when I was pg. I was advised, by my midwife, not to bother with the NHS classes, as September is the busiest month for them, apparently, and they were massively oversubscribed! I would assume that June is less hectic though!

right, best try and work then convince my colleagues to come and eat chocolate cake with me. You'd be surprised at how difficult that will be... I miss working with women!

have a lovely valentines day everyone!

OP posts:
Kayzr · 14/02/2012 09:34

Happy birthday Kveta have a lovely day.

I had a close baby carrier with DS2 and hated it. I know other people have used them and not looked them either.

I am probably getting a Kari Me sling. It's like the Moby but the Moby is a lot thicker and the sling lady I spoke to said they aren't good in summer as the baby can overheat. But I am tempted by a Ellaroo woven wrap too.

Miniangel · 14/02/2012 09:39

Happy 30th Birthday Kveta. Hope you have a lovely day.
Florin and Monkeyjr glad the scan went well.
elly congrats on your girl.
SSC I am a first timer and not bothering with NCT as it's very expensive. I have booked the hospital antenatal classes.
Hope you all are having a lovely Valentine's day.

My DH has given me a surprise today that involves 1 hr pregnancy massage at a great spa nearby followed by dinner at a posh restaturant. I feel blessed and very touched that he did all the research for the massage.

I have my scan today too at the new hospital so will get to see the baby again. Have been feeling a bit rough since last night but am hoping I can enjoy my surprise and the scan today.

Miniangel · 14/02/2012 09:41

Forgot to mention a couple of things:
Warlin I am in two minds about getting the cameleon as well.
Florin Same pinch. I got the anna glider crib as well.

Dontbugmemalone · 14/02/2012 10:21

Ok, thanks again for the warm welcome. I have a doctor's appointment on Friday and he'll probably give me a quick scan to make sure all is well.

I'm about 19 weeks and still feel exhausted. I don't sleep well at night because I have to go to the toilet every 10 minutes! I'd forgotten about that.

Re first time slog users, if you're worried about tying them there are loads of videos on you tube. Good idea to watch a few then practice with a teddy/dollSmile
